      Hey, how is face unlock and motion sense working with that screen protector you got on the small Pixel? I heard they don't work well with screen protectors covering the top bezel, is that true?

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  5 років тому

      With my screen protectors it was OK (especially since one of them has a cut-out for all of the sensors). I would expect that some screen protectors will give you trouble though, especially if they get dirty. I’d recommend getting one that leaves a cutout for the sensors if you’re worried about having issues

    I am always a bit surprised when I watch so critical reviews. I understand it doesn't have the wide angle, but the batteries, at least on the XL is absolutely far from poor. Your use of your phone might over-intensive, but it doens't mean the battery is "poor". For normal daily use it easily ends the day with 30%+ batteries.
    On another hand, the new features of the Google Phones are ones that are actually used on a frequent basis: motion sense for face unlock, motion sense when listening to music, automated sub-titles for videos, 90hz when watching videos, etc. all of these are actually used by most likely a wide majority of users on a daily basis and make a difference in the experience using the phone.
    The wide angle camera is nice and fun, but who would actually use their phone with a relevant idea for a wide angle much more than once a week?
    I would have thought that a phone that puts UX before flashy features would have gotten better reviews. Even more when Apple used to be the company providing this and is not anymore. There are so many interesting stories to look into there...

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  5 років тому +2

      If you're ending the day with 30% battery then that's great! Everyone's experience will be a little bit different. For me, the battery life wasn't good at all, but i'm glad you found it better!
      How did you find using motion sense when listening to music? I found it a real pain, and even had trouble getting any footage of it working - hoping to see a software patch to improve this.
      I understand your point about the wide angle, but do you think the telephoto is better? If I used the wide angle once a week, i'd use the telephoto once a month - but that's just me personally.
      In my opinion, the Pixel 4 is a great example of a phone putting flashy features before the user experience. Adding a finicky motion sense feature instead of a decent battery life isn't a great move in my view. I don't think Apple is a good example to use in this instance either, especially with how good their batteries have been this year.
      Again though, all of this is just my experience with the phone!

    I feel like, if you need to drain the battery more than six hours with on screen time, then you need an actual social life. This is my first view of this channel, and he said pretty much everything that every other UA-camr has stated. So what's the point if you're going to be a copycat? For everyday users, it's an excellent device.

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  5 років тому +3

      I made this review, as with all my reviews, without seeing others’ first. I like to form my own opinions first and go in fresh with new tech. Does the fact that a lot of UA-camrs have said the same thing not indicate to you that the phone exhibits those traits? If something is good, people are likely to say it’s good. If something is bad, people are likely to say that it’s bad. I can’t help the fact that some reviewers will receive a product first and release their video before me - and it’s unrealistic to expect that I won’t echo any of what others have said.
      I appreciate that you like this phone, but don’t take my review personally - it’s just my own view and experience. I personally love it, as I said, and for me and how I use it, it is excellent. I’m sure this will be the case for others too.

    I feel like Google are treating hardware as a hobby. They make so much money from advertising that they can probably afford to make a loss on the hardware division. Next year with the Surface Duo/Neo products and S11 and Oneplus 8, Google are going to find it really difficult to compete and stock android isn't a big deal nowadays.

    I’m averaging 7 hrs SOT with my 4XL. Please don’t compare these phones with the iPhone 11 😔 this competes with the pro and pro max. You really gonna bash the Pixel for its short comings but recommend a phone with a 720p LCD in 2019 going into 2020. I find that absurd! What’s more important the camera or the part of the device you use the most which is the screen. The 11 is a budget phone that should be compared with the Pixel 3a series that cost hundreds less and they still have a better screen than the 11. You have to literally go back a few years to find an Android device with a 720p LCD screen. If your gonna do a review talk about more than camera and storage. It is a phone right? So what about call quality, haptic feedback, speaker quality, WiFi connectivity, Titan Security chip, this phone can actually save your life in certain instances with Crash Detection. If your in an accident your car will sense it and call 911. Soli will definitely get better the reason it didn’t have all the features shown as before is because the built the soli sensor on the Pixel 3’s chastity and when they put it on the 4 it didn’t work right so they have to do some reprogramming.

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  5 років тому +2

      I think it's a bit unrealistic to expect a tech channel not to make comparisons with other smartphones. I'm reviewing the phone, and that includes whether I think it's worth buying or not. You can't make that decision without looking at the competition - and the iPhone 11 is absolutely a direct competitor. I don't think you can just compare the 11 to the Pixel 3a just so that the Pixel can 'win' buy being a lot cheaper. It just so happens that the iPhone 11 may be a better option overall - i'll be assessing this fully in an upcoming video. The iPhone 11 isn't without its flaws, and the display is something I specifically mention in the iPhone review (and will do so in the upcoming video vs the Pixel 4).
      You've asked me to talk about more than just the camera and storage. Not only is this my review (and you're welcome to make your own the way you like) but this, nearly 20 minute, video covers far more than just those aspects. Features like call quality and Wi-Fi connectivity are dependent on the carriers and service providers, so they don't make useful talking points in reviews as there are too many variable factors. Haptic feedback was not a noteworthy upgrade this year (this is a Pixel 4 review, not a "this is everything that a Pixel phone has" video). The speaker quality is mentioned, the (hopefully) upcoming improvements to Soli and radar are mentioned, and lest we forget that I elaborated on how and why I personally love the phone.
      Look, I understand that you like this phone, and it may be difficult for you to hear criticisms about it. But try not to take this personally. The areas in which it excels I have praised, it's weakest aspects I have criticised and where it falls short compared to the competition I have highlighted. In a smartphone review, i'm absolutely going to "bash" its shortcomings, just I have praised its strengths.
      These are just my views and opinion though. If you're enjoying the phone, that's great to hear! Don't let a review spoil your own enjoyment. Take it easy, and keep up your enthusiasm for tech!

    • @turtleislandnative8489
      @turtleislandnative8489 5 років тому

      InsideTech The iPhone 11 is not a competitor the Pixel 4 It’s a budget phone it’s nothing but the Xr with an updated camera and specs. I like the phone. I have one. It has a 720p LCD screen for gods sake. It’s a good phone but it’s still a budget phone. The Pixel isn’t a budget phone the 3a is thats why they should be compared. You wouldn’t compare it to a S10 would you? I say that because the Pixel has the same specs except it lacks UFS 3.0 it has 2.1 and no 4K 60fps.
      Just as your opinion is yours, the same goes for me. I’ve used so many phones over the years that I don’t need your opinion. I just watch to give the phone and an upcoming channel support. That’s why even though I don’t agree. I still hit the like button. If your gonna state your opinion then you should expect feedback. Did I disrespect you? Nope! I did watch the whole video before I commented. The funny thing is I’m responding from my iPhone 11 right now. Anyone trying to recommend this phone over any Android for anything other than a cheap way into the iPhone ecosystem doesn’t make sense to me. The screen is the main thing in a phone that you use. This phone has a 720p LCD screen in 2019. Can you name a phone on the market other than this with this screen? Screen is more important than a wide angle lens. Just like wide angle is a thing so is HDR content that’s impossible to watch on this phone. The screen is how you view content and it’s not on par. I’m sorry!
      I’m not a brand loyalist. Right now I’m using the 4XL and the 11. I usually have a Samsung Galaxy but I didn’t like the way the felt in hand this year and the Note is to boxy. I was gonna get the 7t or whatever One+ is offering at the moment but I hit a deer and had to get a new car and the holidays are right around the corner.

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  5 років тому

      Why do you think that the iPhone 11 is a budget phone but not the Pixel 4? Even though the iPhone is generally cheaper? I absolutely would compare it to the S10 too, and i'd make a point about how it's more expensive. I don't think you've been disrespectful at all, i'm just trying to address these issues you seem to have. I'm not really sure why you've felt the need to say "I don't need your opinion"...this review is optional....you're not compelled to watch it.
      You've asked me to change the way I review the phone so that it aligns more closely with your own views on the phone. I'm afraid that isn't going to happen. I'm sorry that I don't see the phone exactly as you do, this is just my interpretation. I'm sorry that my drawing comparisons to the iPhone 11 has upset you, but I stand by my reasons for doing so. As I said before, I enjoy the Pixel 4 - but i'm still going to point out its flaws, alongside its strengths.

      @@robgretton3721 it's in the same category because it's over priced. No way at 64gb and a 720p LCD that anyone should be paying $700+ for a phone. Any phone over $500 is over priced. I'm not a fan of rear fingerprint sensors, so the move to face unlock is a good one, IMO>
    But, I've been very disappointed in the Apple set up, where you have to pick up the phone and go through several steps to get to the Home Screen etc. Appears to be a retrograde move to me, c/f the physical Home Button/Fingerprint Sensor etc.
    I'm actually dead impressed that it will open as you approach it flat on its back, that's just what I've been waiting for.

      @@insidetechltd sure! But had one watched your review (and those of most UA-camrs) prior to the purchase of a Pixel, they then wouldn't purchase it! I've watched so many of those reviews and most of them just a couple of days after the launch date or even on launch date, are to fast to jump on the conclusion, that the battery life of the phone is crap without giving the system of the phone the time to "learn" them and show is true performance...

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  3 роки тому

      I actually agree with this, in part. So early review units can often be different to the public release units - however, I don't blame reviewers at all for reviewing what they've been given (the review units should be ready to ship). I didn't get sent an early review unit, I just bought it myself, and I stand by my comments made at the time.
      However, the battery life has actually significantly improved in both the 4 and 4XL since launch day (optimisations and updates) which means that the review is now a little out of date. It's just the way things work, unfortunately. Companies update, refine and change their products and it's impossible to make a new video for every single change. You'd never release a review if you waited for the phone to fully settle, and people wouldn't watch the review if you didn't release it early or around the time of launch. So you just have to do the best you can with the information you have at the time - and that's all anyone can do!
      So i'm happy to drop in the comments or on social media to answer any questions to try and supplement older reviews!

    800.00+ dollars for a 2800mamp battery, what, huh? Both are overpriced & underpowered. I had 64gb's of storage on my Samsung s8+, yikes. If you can, wait for black Friday and save 2to3 hundred!

      Absolutely. There are lots of rumours about big price cuts coming - but even then, it doesn’t fix the poor battery life!

      lmao who cares whats under the hood? google puts money in software than specs. the results are same battery life, way better performance and so on. with inferior specs. my nearly 10years with samsung phones gave me the feel they not even once spend over 10bucks on refindement or optimisation
      hardware cant compensate software, but the other way round
      855 is just an not overclocked 855+ and 3700mah are just 300mah diffrence to the 7 pro which had an noticeable bigger screen.
      Over 6gb ram is probably currently useless on a pixel. qhd+ 90hz are better specs than the note 10+. what are you talking about?

      @@insidetechltd Flagship phones with WQHD displays that can last that long there's only a few... Mid range phones that can last longer, yes there's 20 or more. I have a S10 plus that barely gives me 5.5hrs in high performance mode. My old S9 plus 3.5 to 4hrs same settings. A HTC One M9 with a Android 9 custom ROM barely 3hrs which is ok for such an old phone with its original battery. You seem to be on the same boat as those who hate the Pixel cause it's trendy, shame.

      Have you ever stopped to consider why it might be 'trendy'? A lot of people all sharing the same view can start a trend, sure, but why are all these people having this opinion in the first place? The parts I love about the Pixel I have highlighted, just as I have those weaker aspects too. It's my view that the Pixel 4 has poor battery life, it's as simple as that!
