Finally! A non biased review of this wonderful phone! People give apple too much slack for "Brand value", oneplus for its "Value for money" and Samsung for its "stupidly exaggerated spec sheet" but the overall best experience is always found on a pixel. The software, the smoothness, the camera, the display, regular updates, it's all awesome. I'm a happy Pixel 3xl owner and my only gripes with this phone are less ram and less screen brightness making it wayyy better than any other phone in 2018 that had much more than just 2 cons. Same goes for th pixel 4xl, it looks really good and since its a Google phone it's full capability will only be seen after 2-3 months of software updates perfecting the experience making all the other stupid reviewers regret complaining about it in the first place. This happened with the 2 xl, 3xl and now it's happening for the 4xl as well. They already rolled out an update with better "smooth display" making it run at any brightness level without compromising on battery life. #TeamPixel

@@IDTR exactly! Battery is not supposed to be a "feature" anyway. It's supposed to get you through the day so when you get back home, you can plug it and get it ready for the next day. Who cares if another phone has a 1 & half or 2 day battery even? Gonna plug it in at the end of the day anyway. People also comparing 6gb ram with 12gb ram is so stupid, who uses 12gb ram? Google gives you just enough for your convinience while also fosuonh on other exclusive features and long term support that makes it stand out.

@@DeepenWadhwa there are chargers all over the place these days also. Also it charges quick. Maybe some of these people don't put the phone down much as well. Battery life can vary greatly with use the apps installed. Anyone with any past use of a smartphone should know this..lol You have to think outside of the box. @D K when i saw the current reviews i felt the same i hold the phone in my hand and i feel how good it is and all am hearing is complaints and the notch of the Pixel 3 XL was the trend on UA-cam while the iPhone still has it in the iPhone 11 and no one is even mentioning that and when Google removed it in the Pixel 4 XL they now complaint about the large forhead so i don't know when they will stop.the only review that I liked is from "This is tech today" this guy is honest and i love his channel

Great review. I agree with most of the things you said and it seems that you're the only tech UA-camr who gets what Google is trying to do. Software development costs a lot of money but most people do not know about this, they think that a bunch of talented software engineers just appear out of thin air and develop software for free. And supporting phones with software updates also costs tons of money, that's why Chinese phones with same or better specs are much cheaper than Google Pixels. Pixel's Titan M security chip, Pixel Visual Core/Neural Core - these things cost a lot of money as well.
Fantastic video! It's nice to see that someone understands. The people who bicker in the other reviews need to just realize that this phone is not meant for them. I absolutely love my Pixel 4 XL. A bigger battery or more storage space doesn't make another phone more appealing to me. The overall experience of Pixel is why I have used every Google phone since the Nexus 6!
Wow! Finally a thoughtful, detailed, and objective review from someone who has put in some real time with the phone. Within days of the Pixel 4 release all of the big name tech nerds came out with reviews pretty much dissing the phone. They have really done a disservice to us. How can you do a truly objective review after only such a short time with the phone? I love my Pixel 4 XL, so much so that I will be putting my Samsung S10+ up for sale.
I personally got myself S10 plus couldn't use it as my daily driver it's just an amazing display but nothing else and then sold it. Thanks John for the comment 👍
This channel deserves more subs. 10/10 review, especially noting that the Pixel line of phones is part of Google's vision of ambient computing and delivering the best android experience and not just focusing solely on specs alone. As for the radar/project soli, in the keynote google mentioned that although they had made advancements with the radar on a different device chassis, when they implemented the radar in the new Pixel 4/XL chassis it forced them to start from scratch which is why the radar has limited functionality for now but will certainly only improve with time.

@@bhuvanpentapati6785 honestly I haven't even noticed a problem with battery life like all of the reviewers have been talking about. I have my 90hz forced on, keep it at Max brightness, and also have the air gestures and things on. I get a full day and watch UA-cam videos a lot or am always handling business on my phone. It took like 3 days and the battery adjusted to my use and has only gotten better from there as it learns my habits more. It's a software phone. You can't review it in like 2 days of having because then you haven't even let the software adjust to you.
Google can change the second lens to a wide angle with a software update ? I have a Pixel 2 XL running android 10 and was thinking of getting a Pixel 4 not the XL since I use my phone for pictures and a video here and there .......... and noticed the XL is simply too big......Ladies keep asking me are you happy to see me, or is that your phone in your trousers ......

hey brother, im from dubai as well! I got pixel 4xl couple of weeks back im facing this issue my bank emirates islamic doesnt have option for face unlock for authentications. Even whatsapp doesnt have. salik app doesnt work on this phone. it just crashes when i try to login

I'm a bit late to the party, but as a regular follower of this channel and a recent purchaser of the Pixel 4 XL, I thought I'd go back through IDTR's videos. This one is impressive; it doesn't try to enforce an opinion on others, but lays out the information for the viewer to consider. The articulacy and considered delivery is a pleasure and a welcome relief from the usual "noisy" tech reviews on UA-cam.
Maybe you can make a full battery test video? That was the one thing that has held me back from upgrading from my Pixel 3 XL. If you do this video can you also force 90hz display mode on. Thanks

Forehead is bit large it makes less attractive. otherwise Camera, Speaker, 90hz display, Android 10 ,fast face unlock , matte finish are amazing. pixel 4xl giving me very nice user experience hope pixel 5xl will be nearly perfect phone.

Agree. Balanced review. Just got a Pixel 4XL for my dad so he could use voice to control the phone. Almost flawless translation. This phone has a ton of great features. Bummer about battery and camera... but am willing to take that hit in trade for all the other great features.
Thanks bro 👍 but i have to say the 4XL battery is doing really well with my day to day usage and it gets better by time as the adaptive battery learns more about ur usage. Also i noticed that if you have RCS turned on the carrier services eat too much battery so just in case u use RCS messages in Android messages turn that off it seems like it has a bug. For the camera i still enjoy it but the missing 4k 60fps video and wide angle disappointed a lot of people not me as i don't use both but it makes sense to have both anyways

One important thing to mention, Motion Sense which depends on the Soli Chip radar doesn’t work in all countries (Middle East included). Google site lists the countries that has this feature enabled for now. The feature will be disabled with disclaimer when in use in a country that is not in the list. Is there any specific app that eating ur battery? Sometimes there are apps that keeps eating ur battery try to check ur batter usage to know more also i faced an issue where the location sign was showing all the time in the status bar which is eating the battery but i solved the problem by turning on improved location accuracy under settings
They already can take portraits with one lens they could have added a wide angle instead also the wide angle selfie removed. I know the selfie in Pixel 4 is wide but when use the normal FOV it crops in digitally
Just bought one thanks to your fine video (bye bye 2XL). Tried many other phones, there's nothing compared to Pixel, got in love with it since first came out, perfect phone for me, has everything I needed: camera, speed, clean OS, latest updates, simplicity. The only downside is the storage, but I can live with that. 👍👍👍 Liked and subscribed.
Man, one of the best reviews over there. Thank you! If you can cover other aspects such as: haptic feedback (which is one of the best from Androids, almost iphone level?), Now playing (offline music recognition), anti flicker / spectre sensor (good when video recording a display).. i mean pixel has lots of goodies. Other OEMs are going cheaper way and of course this will reflect its final price too. For example look at OnePlus devices, they are powerhouses but lacks rafinament and the ram management is very bad despite the huge amount of ram. Also the battery is not great in their latest flagships!

Your entire video the good and the bad has been my exact experience and exactly how I feel. I can't speak for the smaller pixel 4 but the XL has had exceptional battery in my use. I'm averaging 6 hours and 40 mins with 2-5% left and that's with forced 90 hz display turned on. I specifically let the battery get that low 4 days in a row for a piece of mind since every tech reviewer was saying it was bad. Now that i have proved to myself that it's bs and people are just pissed bc no wonder angle lens + the poor battery life of the p4 that the negativity seems to have carried on over to the bigger XL model as well. Now I started using the phone normal where I have 2 pixel stands one in my home office which I work out of and one in my night stand where I keep the pixel in there while u work to listen to music/UA-cam/ podcasts while u work. But for 4 days I want charging it intentionally for testing. Not to mention the motion sense in my case is not a gimmick as while the phone is on my pixel stand playing podcasts/music and UA-cam I do perform gestures to switch tracks. Also I go cycling/bike riding for 22 Mile's 3x a week and I have a phone mount that I use and now it made it so easy for me to switch tracks even if I'm wearing gloves since it's cold out now where I can just use gestures to switch tracks. The other use case is I use my phone to stream Google play music to my cars Bluetooth stereo and I keep the phone docked with a wireless charger in the middle of my dash which allows me to easily switch tracks safely without even looking at it since my steering wheel audio controls are not compatible with exception of increasing or lowering my speakers volume this has been great for me.
I've got my PIXEL 4XL two weeks ago. And it's by far the best experience I've ever had with a phone. The display is crystal clear , the camera is so so amazing. The sounds are loud and super clear. The battery life is really good actually, people hating on the battery have never really used this phone. Bottom line, if you are hesitating to buy this phone, believe me go for it, you won't regret it.
I waited for a price drop & got it 6mos later. 599.oo for the 4 xl. Very happy with this deal. Now for me, worth the wait? Those 📷's, 90hz display & Google's software. Can't wait to get it!

I believe lux is different from nits the measurement i used is in lux however it's a software limitation on the pixel to save battery but Google increased the nits in direct sunlight with Mar security update

Thanks for the honest detailed review. The war on this device was expected as Google is doing a great job in the mobile line. We don't deny that for this price you should get a better battery (specially for the 4) + UW lens + more storage but overall the phone is amazing!
I have Pixel 2xl, who is for me best phone until now. This phone is 2-3 years old and so far I just praise it to people. I had other phones in between and it had more flaws than Pixel. I held Samsung, Huawei or iPhone but Pixel is still for me the winner.
Pixel 4 has poor battery life i had to return it and got a 4 xl. 4xl battery life is great and get's better over time put pixel 4 standard has very poor battery life.
You're paying flagship pricing due to the experience. The hardware is more than adequate. Samsung and others play the latest hardware game because they have too. Google knows what they're offering for the money, otherwise they would have offered this for $500 on pre-order day. Could it be overpriced by $100-$150? It could be as doesn't every mfg seem to mark it up more than what they could? I'm getting the 4XL even though I have a great running 3XL. Why? Because I know the 4XL will be improved. Now I'm waiting for the sale like anyone else should who's complained and whined about the cost because you don't have 2 more GB or RAM and whined about no original quality for saved photos...etc You can't make everyone happy. I'm going to enjoy the phone with the better software experience.

It's a good phone though it really is such an expensive one. If they could have just made it 599 for the 4 and 699 to the 4xl i think that would be acceptable
6 hours of Screen on time for a brand new phone is good, but not great. I wonder how much is the endurance on the smaller version. Camera is great as usual, but not providing original quality uploads is utter nonsense.
It's also to note that battery performance is also very personal just like other aspects of any phone... For me who has a desk job, I have the luxury to plug in my phone easily for around 20-30 mins during the day and it makes battery life a breeze. Also wireless charging is a bonus. And if I'm getting a 90hz panel with above average battery life, it's a solid deal. My friend owns a OnePlus 7t and he gets about 5-5.5 hours of SOT on a single charge with 90 hz on. Although this is limited sample size but if a 90 hz panel phone can give me equal or better battery I dont mind that at all! And regarding the original photo storage, while it's a bummer that Google is going all in for monetizing cloud storage like apple does, the difference that not many point out is if you are uploading any photos shot with a 12 megapixel sensor or lesser to Google photos you inevitably get original quality as Google only compresses photos slightly if they are more than 12 megapixel. And their compression too is best in class. The only downside is the video uploads. It doesn't affect me personally as I don't shoot a lot of video, but if you are someone who does, it could be a probable deal breaker.
I can read absolutely fine in direct sunlight as u saw in the video and am testing that in Dubai one of the hottest places with plenty of sunlight plus i will never use the 480 nits indoors so its not a deal breaker

This channel deserves more subs. 10/10 review, especially noting that the Pixel line of phones is part of Google's vision of ambient computing and delivering the best android experience and not just focusing solely on specs alone. As for the radar/project soli, in the keynote google mentioned that although they had made advancements with the radar on a different device chassis, when they implemented the radar in the new Pixel 4/XL chassis it forced them to start from scratch which is why the radar has limited functionality for now but will certainly only improve with time.

I have my 90hz forced on, keep it at Max brightness, and also have the air gestures and things on. I get a full day and watch UA-cam videos a lot or am always handling business on my phone. It took like 3 days and the battery adjusted to my use and has only gotten better from there as it learns my habits more. It's a software phone. You can't review it in like 2 days of having because then you haven't even let the software adjust to you.

This one is impressive; it doesn't try to enforce an opinion on others, but lays out the information for the viewer to consider. The articulacy and considered delivery is a pleasure and a welcome relief from the usual "noisy" tech reviews on UA-cam.

Agree. Balanced review. Just got a Pixel 4XL for my dad so he could use voice to control the phone. Almost flawless translation. This phone has a ton of great features. Bummer about battery and camera... but am willing to take that hit in trade for all the other great features.

Also i noticed that if you have RCS turned on the carrier services eat too much battery so just in case u use RCS messages in Android messages turn that off it seems like it has a bug. For the camera i still enjoy it but the missing 4k 60fps video and wide angle disappointed a lot of people not me as i don't use both but it makes sense to have both anyways

One important thing to mention, Motion Sense which depends on the Soli Chip radar doesn’t work in all countries (Middle East included). Google site lists the countries that has this feature enabled for now. The feature will be disabled with disclaimer when in use in a country that is not in the list. They already can take portraits with one lens they could have added a wide angle instead also the wide angle selfie removed. I know the selfie in Pixel 4 is wide but when use the normal FOV it crops in digitally

If you can cover other aspects such as: haptic feedback (which is one of the best from Androids, almost iphone level?), Now playing (offline music recognition), anti flicker / spectre sensor (good when video recording a display).. i mean pixel has lots of goodies. Other OEMs are going cheaper way and of course this will reflect its final price too. For example look at OnePlus devices, they are powerhouses but lacks rafinament and the ram management is very bad despite the huge amount of ram. Also the battery is not great in their latest flagships!

Your entire video the good and the bad has been my exact experience and exactly how I feel. I can't speak for the smaller pixel 4 but the XL has had exceptional battery in my use. I'm averaging 6 hours and 40 mins with 2-5% left and that's with forced 90 hz display turned on. I specifically let the battery get that low 4 days in a row for a piece of mind since every tech reviewer was saying it was bad. Now that i have proved to myself that it's bs and people are just pissed bc no wonder angle lens + the poor battery life of the p4 that the negativity seems to have carried on over to the bigger XL model as well. Now I started using the phone normal where I have 2 pixel stands one in my home office which I work out of and one in my night stand where I keep the pixel in there while u work to listen to music/UA-cam/ podcasts while u work. But for 4 days I want charging it intentionally for testing. Not to mention the motion sense in my case is not a gimmick as while the phone is on my pixel stand playing podcasts/music and UA-cam I do perform gestures to switch tracks. Also I go cycling/bike riding for 22 Mile's 3x a week and I have a phone mount that I use and now it made it so easy for me to switch tracks even if I'm wearing gloves since it's cold out now where I can just use gestures to switch tracks. The other use case is I use my phone to stream Google play music to my cars Bluetooth stereo and I keep the phone docked with a wireless charger in the middle of my dash which allows me to easily switch tracks safely without even looking at it since my steering wheel audio controls are not compatible with exception of increasing or lowering my speakers volume this has been great for me.

I've got my PIXEL 4XL two weeks ago. And it's by far the best experience I've ever had with a phone. The display is crystal clear , the camera is so so amazing. The sounds are loud and super clear. The battery life is really good actually, people hating on the battery have never really used this phone.
Bottom line, if you are hesitating to buy this phone, believe me go for it, you won't regret it.

If Pixel 4 XL uses a Samsung panel, why is it only hitting 436 nits?
I believe lux is different from nits the measurement i used is in lux however it's a software limitation on the pixel to save battery but Google increased the nits in direct sunlight with Mar security update

I have Pixel 2xl, who is for me best phone until now. This phone is 2-3 years old and so far I just praise it to people. I had other phones in between and it had more flaws than Pixel. I held Samsung, Huawei or iPhone but Pixel is still for me the winner.

You're paying flagship pricing due to the experience. The hardware is more than adequate. Samsung and others play the latest hardware game because they have too. Google knows what they're offering for the money, otherwise they would have offered this for $500 on pre-order day. Could it be overpriced by $100-$150? It could be as doesn't every mfg seem to mark it up more than what they could? I'm getting the 4XL even though I have a great running 3XL. Why? Because I know the 4XL will be improved. Now I'm waiting for the sale like anyone else should who's complained and whined about the cost because you don't have 2 more GB or RAM and whined about no original quality for saved photos...etc You can't make everyone happy. I'm going to enjoy the phone with the better software experience.

6 hours of Screen on time for a brand new phone is good, but not great. I wonder how much is the endurance on the smaller version. Camera is great as usual, but not providing original quality uploads is utter nonsense.
I never got this SOT with all the phones I bought but i didn't test the iPhone 11 Pro Max yet.
It's also to note that battery performance is also very personal just like other aspects of any phone... For me who has a desk job, I have the luxury to plug in my phone easily for around 20-30 mins during the day and it makes battery life a breeze. Also wireless charging is a bonus. And if I'm getting a 90hz panel with above average battery life, it's a solid deal. My friend owns a OnePlus 7t and he gets about 5-5.5 hours of SOT on a single charge with 90 hz on. Although this is limited sample size but if a 90 hz panel phone can give me equal or better battery I dont mind that at all!
And regarding the original photo storage, while it's a bummer that Google is going all in for monetizing cloud storage like apple does, the difference that not many point out is if you are uploading any photos shot with a 12 megapixel sensor or lesser to Google photos you inevitably get original quality as Google only compresses photos slightly if they are more than 12 megapixel. And their compression too is best in class. The only downside is the video uploads. It doesn't affect me personally as I don't shoot a lot of video, but if you are someone who does, it could be a probable deal breaker.
The takeaway from this video....be Faithful if you have a Pixel 4 XL. Lol

I can read absolutely fine in direct sunlight as u saw in the video and am testing that in Dubai one of the hottest places with plenty of sunlight plus i will never use the 480 nits indoors so its not a deal breaker
