I think Patrick's story is more about resilience than failure. He's been knocked down so many times, but he's still standing. Isn't that what entrepreneurship is all about?

Good stories for people to hear. My dad was an alcoholic gambler and in my teens (mid 1980s) he drove our family business of 70 years to bankruptcy. He used too much leverage. Too much risk. We lost millions. Seeing the toxic behavior and loss shaped me.
I started investing in my early 20s. I'm risk averse. I won't gamble. Today I'm retired in early 50s. Self made multimillionaire. Peace of mind and security is more important than material stuff.
Your story is important for people to hear. I lived it in the mid 80s. Taught me valuable lessons.

That's a great example of learning from another's mistakes. You obviously made good life decisions, I'm curious how you were able to retire before 55 y/o...are you 1) a teacher/police/firefighter that worked for a lifetime to build a pension, 2) you work hard (plus some luck) to launch a successful business, or maybe some other life path?

I also went through a bankruptcy myself at one time, I didn’t have the big money you once had but I lost everything. I was devastated at first but as time went by, I found a freedom that I have never known. I have learned to live e much simpler life, less stress , and enjoy my life so much more. Looking back it was probably one of the best things to have happened to me in my life.

I got the biggest raise of my life and published for the first time the first year I quit drinking. It holds many people back. I am 79 years old going on 80 and started drinking when I was 18 . I have never had a DWI which is a miracle because I used to drive home at three in the morning from a night at the bars and put my vision on that center stripe and keep it in the middle of my hood so when it got to the left I need to turn right and when I get right I turn left. in the 60s and 70s they were pretty lenient on DWIs as long as you didn’t crash or kill somebody. after I settle down in my late 20s I instituted a few hard and fast rules on alcohol consumption. no drinking during the week and not before noon on Saturday and not after 6 PM on Sunday. this philosophy has worked pretty well for me on keeping the affects of alcohol consumption moderated and not interfering with a successful life and I know most alcoholics don’t want to hear this but I still love to drink and socialize but I don’t ever drink and drive anymore as I figure I’ve used up my good credits

I think it’s the most beautiful place in this country and I didn’t even wanna leave. That being said, how do you and your wife afford to live in Destin? It’s very expensive place. I can’t believe how expensive the food was. I paid $25 for an egg white cheese bagel for breakfast and not even a New York City. You pay anything close to that. It’s more expensive than it is in New York City.

I'm a professional algorithmic trader for a bank and a retail trader ( I consider myself retail even though my account is in the $MMs because compared to my book at work which is over 30-40 $MM and my retail acct > 10$MM ). Scalping is pure gambling for retail traders. It is only profitable for institutional traders as they use it to sweep the remaining liquidity layers of a given pricing level. Advice. when you are let's say up a certain amount in one position. move your stop loss above break even level to secure at least 50% of your profits in case of a reversal. It get's way more complicated but anyway. cheers

I learned late in life that when all of the talent and skill live in one person, the ways to fail are numerous. Build the team into leaders, then teach them how to build future leaders to run, scale and protect your businesses. That's how to "YOU" proof your business. Team thinking says "one of us can never be smarter than all of us." Create core values first, then build a team that fits those core values and you can be anywhere in the world while your systems and processes guide the decisions. Even when you make a bad decision like the Florida restaurant, someone on your team, better equipped to objectively analyze opportunity would save you from yourself using the framework and foundation. Someone on the team would always have their finger on the pulse of people like the management company so that we are aware when things seem to be a little fishy. Not when things have gotten completely out of control.

so pleased to see your 'origin' story following my introduction to you in a couple alcoholism-related @UA-cam videos.
I'm curious whether you recorded them in chronological order and ran them out of sequence.

We skip around a little, but mostly the videos are posted as they’re recorded. New videos coming soon!

Realestate and restaurants must be the worst types of assets. Headaches with tenants, lawsuits , employee problems.

This is a great channel because its a testament to what great investor Warren Buffet said. All I want to know is where I am going to die so I know not to go there.

I like these longer videos. Something to watch in the background while working. I don't prefer the super short ones. Good content too far and few between to flip it that quickly.

I have had similar experiences. If I was as rich as I should be, I'd send you at least 6 digits just to help you out. Every where I turned, there was someone who was ready to rob me. I still count myself lucky because I still have something left lol
I also got fed up and stopped running hard and now enjoy slow living.

If someone used to live in a mansion, drive expensive cars, go on month long vacations and now live like this, they would consider themselves broke.
