I'm going to see Tool next Sunday, on Randall's Island in NYC. It will be my 7th Tool show. Second best Live band I've ever seen... and I only say second best, because I was lucky enough to see Queen in concert back in 1978 when I was 14.
people need to realize that this came out almost twenty years ago. way ahead of its time and vocally untouchable. that said, its being sung now by a guy who is 50+ years old. what do you want?.
A live band of this calibre, regardless of age, changes in musical composition...still...fucking,,,,deliver. They are going twenty odd years, making stadiums fill up and can produce a setlist of songs some nearing on ten minutes each and still get an absolutely engaging crowd participation. Yeah they aren't what they used to be, they are even better.
+Pandemic16 I don't know why everyone is so hung up about "age" these days....Musicians get better as they get older...because they have had more time to learn...I think people nowadays have a problem with "older" people....but I don't see them doing anything that rivals the old folks...so until they do....they should shut the fuck up.
Been a Tool fan since 1993, love me some Maynard! No other band has this sound, these lyrics move you in ways you never expect. Sound of my generation and raising my 2 son's on metal :)
my daughter just sang along to H. the very song that made me quit smoking, drinking, and partying and be ready to be her father when i found out my girl was pregnant. i still have my last cigarette butt in a drawer somewhere. thanks TOOL.
I don't understand why people think Maynard sounds bad. This is completely on point. I think people want to hear the song exactly as it appears on yhe record, but that isn't gonna happen since Tool is an ever-evolving band.
@@nick3718 If you're saying it's above on point than that's true because he's still managing to sing this with his more mid and lower octaves now since he is older. He sounds great and still controls his voice flawlessly.
Been a Tool fan since Undertow came out, and last night was my first time seeing them live...this was the encore.....you won't feel something, until you keep digging into your wallet, and spring for a ticket.
The first time I had ever seen them live, before I heard any extended version, they played this. I was totally blown away from how awesome and unexpected it was (to me). I think its great how most the fans actually watch and listen live. I can take my dad to a Tool concert (have twice)Spiral Out.......
Saw Tool, in living color and bad brains at the hollywood palladium in 1989 after maynard set he walk off stage and sat down next to me with two girls and i was like damn me and my friend were tripping he cracked open a beer and was chilling next to us! If was a great concert!
Even though I'm getting old now, I feel privileged to have been around when these guys came out and have been a loyal die hard fan since day one! Everything they do is PHENOMENAL!
Sad to see Maynard lost the grit in his voice for this song. Awesome how he acknowledge's that though, and sings it in a different way, instead of trying to compete with his younger self. Still sounds amazing, just not similar to 10 years or so ago.
+Aaron Speary Probably just bored of singing the same song the same way a million times. Imagine playing one's material, night after night ad infinitum. Tedious.
Yes, a new fucking album would be nice. I've managed to get married, buy a house and have two kids in the intervening years. A dreadful state of affairs, I can tell you. Right, who fancies a pint?!!!!...
Something has to change. Un-deniable dilemma. Boredom's not a burden Anyone should bear. Constant over stimu-lation numbs me but I would not want you any other way. It's not enough. I need more. Nothing seems to satisfy. I said I don't want it. I just need it. To breathe, To feel, to know I'm alive. Finger deep within the borderline. Show me that you love me and that we belong together. Relax, turn around and take my hand. I can help you change Tired moments into pleasure. Say the word and we'll be Well upon our way. Blend and balance Pain and comfort Deep within you Till you will not want me any other way. It's not enough. I need more. Nothing seems to satisfy. I said I don't want it. I just need it. To breathe, To feel, to know I'm alive. Knuckle deep inside the borderline. This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to. Relax. Slip away. Something kinda sad about the way that things have come to be. Desensitized to everything. What became of subtlety? How can it mean anything to me If I really don't feel anything at all? I'll keep digging Till I feel something. Elbow deep inside the borderline. Show me that you love me and that we belong together. Shoulder deep within the borderline. Relax. Turn around and take my hand.
So.... Do you know what these lyrics mean? Well I do..I'm a heroin addict me who don't know how to live normal again.. "constant over stimulation numbs me.. I don't want it I just need it to breath to feel to know I'm alive".. ECT..
Justin is probably my favorite bassist next to Les Claypool and Trevor Dunn and his bass tone is the best and this song is one Tool's easiest songs to play on bass but it's still great
All of these people shit talking Maynard... I'd like to see any of you give a vocal performance nearly as good as that at the age of 50 after decades if of screaming on a daily basis. Y'all want a new album? Then don't get pissed when Maynard doesn't sing exactly the way he did years ago because he doesn't want to blow out his voice.
Wat tf r u talkn about???? Its only bn 11 years. They bn fuckn killn it since 89 bro. Wen they werent touring they were in the studio. I totally agree that he sounds fuckn amazing for his age n years of that voice
Danny Carey is a freaking machine. They sound amazing live. Every member of the band is the greatest in the world at their instrument & Maynard is the coolest guy in all of rock.
Shout out to the sound guy for getting the levels of all the instruments on point! I just wished he paid more attention to the vocals when Maynard would use the megaphone. Still 👍👍
For anyone that’s complaining about vocals or doesn’t like that it doesn’t sound exactly like the song recorded about two decades ago, well you I feel bad you can’t experience and enjoy it live music.
When i looked over at maynard he was sweating with the mohawk and just finishing listening to their set I thought this band was 20 years in the future with their music! It was 1989!
I love the new sections in the tune a lot ! but they need to boost the volume on that intro synth part right after cause the energy gets dropped a lot before Maynard sings again after the new solo section.
He probably just didn't wanna blow his voice out. I'm sure screaming every day for decades can take it's toll. Look at James Hetfields singing nowadays compared to the 80s.
I think if I'll ever see them live my head will just implode.
I have the same feeling...
I'm lucky enough to see them in may
I'm 60 and have seen a shit load of concerts in my life. Tool easily makes my top 5 shows. Saw them about 10 years ago.

im seeing them tuesday in Rochester bitch

i dont want it, i just need it.
Vocals are horrible ... . And it hurts me to say it.
id rather him just not sing it dude, makes me feel bad
@@ericbollman7818 ikr ehhh the other songs are good but like, he caaant do his older stuff anymore
Cross Garafalo stfu hater. Bro you hating on the best band in existence.
Tool is fucking awesome. i will never get sick of listening to them. Best band EVER. if you dont like tool something is wrong in ur head.
That explain why we live in a sick society. Tool is the remedy!
good music is the remedy
Tool is an amazing band. There’s something about their music that’s unmatched by any other band. It’s almost a drug.
I think it's the Eastern psychedelic tone !!!
It feels like a blend of eastern and western psychedelic prog !!! And I love it ♥️
Definitely
I can't get enough. Litsening to it hurt a little but it was something I got used to
Yeah definitely!
This man is a genius, his voice, his words, his art are out of this world. I don't see what's to complain about here.
this man? you think he made all of this? alone? lol... what a groupy...
The vocals in this version are amazing
LOL
cant tell of this is sarcastic or not. i like them
@@dankster6096 same
The switch up on some of the guitar parts work better than the original. Adam Jones is the reason I got into guitar.

that filthy, dirty bass line. Love it.
The shot of the confetti going off in front of Maynard......WOW.

You were OGT? Back in 92? From the first EP?
I don't understand why people think Maynard sounds bad. This is completely on point. I think people want to hear the song exactly as it appears on yhe record, but that isn't gonna happen since Tool is an ever-evolving band.
This is far from “on point.”
@@nick3718 It's definitely competent. He just avoids the higher notes because, well, he's older now.

I'd be on the receiving end of the stinkfist to get one of those drumsticks
I have one. 2006
One of the best live tool songs
Maynard the Anti-Frontman
Going against the grain as Maynard always does. A giant middle finger to the status quo.
one of the many, many reasons i am a fan....
The back man, as implied in prison sex.

Even though I'm getting old now, I feel privileged to have been around when these guys came out and have been a loyal die hard fan since day one! Everything they do is PHENOMENAL!
Still sings better than any other vocalist I know of nowadays though. So I guess the extra rasp is just a bonus.
Sad to see Maynard lost the grit in his voice for this song. Awesome how he acknowledge's that though, and sings it in a different way, instead of trying to compete with his younger self. Still sounds amazing, just not similar to 10 years or so ago.

I will remember like yesterday the day I discovered Tool. I can’t believe that was 20 years ago. What a feeling.
This song has one of the most mesmerising basslines. And that throaty tone JC uses. Perfect.
Why doesn’t TOOL just come out with a professionally shot DVD with all the bells and whistle‘s....

Great tune!! I always feel better after some live tool!!

Anger is an energy
“Anger is a productive emotion” ☝🏽
