Challenging to figure out and play but the songs I know are SO SATISFYING to play.
Love this comment. TOOL and in particular Justin....have been my favorite musicians almost as long as I’ve been alive. Justin helped me pick up a bass and leave my guitars behind. I always should have been a bassist. Not nearly as many boundaries sonically (Adam Jones excluded) as a guitarist.
depends on the venue...and seating, but yea. My first time they opened with The Grudge and followed it with Sober. That night they played H. 46&2 and Pushit...most of that they never play. It was incredible. Also first night I smoked pot, and I assure you I got high my first time
You got Maynard stomping on the down beat, Justin jamming out on bass, Danny rocking out and keeping time....then there's Adam, walking around on stage looking like a guy picking out shoes at Footlocker lol. I love it. No where on earth is there a better powerhouse of musical talent. We are lucky to be alive during this time.

There never has been, or will be, another band that captures all senses, in the way Tool has. I extend to them my greatest level of respect.
@ryoonivo1002 , I strongly encourage you to take a look around you. Do you see all of the evil? But do you notice where YOU are, within it? PROTECTED from it. SO FAR. Tool, A Perfect Circle, Placebo, Run the Jewles, Death Grips, Crystal Castles, Aphex Twin, Forest Swords, Rammstein, Gojira, Nile, Slipknot, Korn, Dir En Grey, System of a Down, The Cure. These are my favorite groups of all time.
It sounds like the studio version because it is. There are subtle little things you can see during the video plus the fact that it sounds exact but I agree with Sadie. They’re still an amazing live band. Not discrediting them at all
It's because IT IS the studio version, whoever this is just added some crowd noise and some reverb to the mix to make it sound live. It was a classic trick in the 90's to get people to buy "LIVE BOOTLEGS". if you don't believe me, play the original and this at the same time, there are literally no differences in vocal tones, guitar, bass, drums, nothing.
@@jmathieson15 As they have grown through the years they have "loosened" up how they play the tracks live just to have some fun, but yes I remember in the nineties and early two thousands, they sounded spot on like the albums, with slight and subtle variations in tone.
Tool is the only band where it feels like their songs are *happening*to*you vs just listening and taking the song in. Each song is a profound experience rather than merely a piece of art.
Adam Jones's seemingly effortless playing on this song is pretty remarkable. Everything was perfectly in sync through all those complex sections and weird time signature changes. To be that tight while doing that crazy pull-off riff is insane. I love when Tool is going at full throttle with all four of them doing their own complex thing that somehow interweaves into this enormous sonic entity that hovers over the stage like an angry dragon.
I've always thought that, if you pick each players section apart, it follows the simple chord riff formula and the magic is in the timing and tone. Adam is a virtuoso and these guys blend their layers so well.
And they do it without a click track, which, if used, would trigger all lights/visuals but a person triggers them so they have to be tight. I agree, they are awesome. Individually and as a unit
Played this for my 21 year old daughter who told me, “dad…their time signatures are so complexed.” I then knew she understood the greatness that is Tool. She is a fan now! And yes, I cried. Lol

LOOK EVERYONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No this isn't live, it's the studio version with some very creative editing and echoing BUT I love playing this and believing it's live, it's all we have as Tool fans. Everyone should praise this post not shred it, it sounds incredible. And while we're on the subject, it's been 8 YEARS BOYS ! My sanity depends on a new album soon. That is all.
yeah man, everyone is always talking about Justin and Danny, and with good reason, but Adam is awesome in his own way. Clearly he can play at any level, but he pretty much always humbly just keeps the songs moving along in a very talented manner and contributes his parts judiciously. He’s been around since the beginning, without Adam Tool wouldn’t be Tool. I’m going to start talking about him more often.
Because probably he's the most replaceable band member. Not many people can play like Danny, Maynard's voice is unique for the sound band and Justin's rhythm sections are melodic and serve a purpose for each song, but any decent guitar player can play Adam's stuff
Not only that but he worked on the movie terminator , doing the special effects , the guy has talent ooooozing out his orfises , heres to Adam , super talented at everything he does !
@@dr.goodman3594yeah I’ve read he’s helped with some of their videos and other things too. Very artistic, talented, humble person. I’d love to have a beer with him!
There's just no other way of listening to this masterpiece other than in max volume, i keep checking if I can turn it up even when I know it is already at the highest possible haha
I love Tool so much. Only have gotten to see them once. Was the best show I have ever been to. Cannot wait for the new album. Maynard is so damn funny, and I love him on some of the newer podcasts.
I love the differences in each of their stage presence in this vid... Danny- "keeping the beat, keeping the beat" Justin - "watching the beat, watching the beat" Adam - "this was supposed to be my day off" Jimmy- "look guys, I am monke"
@Eduardo Gentile that's very interesting! Yea, Jim and Jimmy are basically nicknames for James. I called him jimmy rather than maynard to refer to him in his humanity rather than stardom
Tool have never been and probably never will be the kind of band to sell out to the trappings of aggressive marketing and self promotion. They've always let their fame come to them, and with such talent, that's all they need to stay popular. Play it, and they will come. Every member of this band is a top notch artist, and all they ever focus on is giving their live audiences the best sound they possibly can.
tool will always be one of a kind and my personal favourite band, the fact that their live performances are as good as their recordings shows how insanely talented they are and theres nobody who play any song they write better then them, my life wouldn’t be the sane without them!
The people of Jambi Province in Sumatra Indonesia have taken this song to heart and called it their province's official anthem and are expecting a tour from Tool soon.
Man, I'd say this is a gift from the Goddess, but it's a gift from you. I looked so long for a tool live video with good audio performance. Thank you SO MUCH!
This I can’t describe how amazing this band is and their performances and how nice it was somewhat captivated here but in the end you have to see them live for yourself to truly get the whole experience...
I saw them two times in Mexico last year. When them played "Jambi" I undestand how small we were each of us on audience. Jambi takes my fuckin soul, the lyrics are so amazing, every word, every note has a lot of sense for me. Real Honesty to write this song. Sorry for my english brothers tooligans, best wishes from this fuckin shit call it Mexico.
I frkn looooove this song so much I'm 55 yrs old grandma my son is in when towers fall hes lead guitar we LOVE TOOL N METAL I DONT KNOW HOW PEOPLE LIVE WITHOUT METAL😝😝😝🤑
TOOL is by far and away my favorite band, and always will be. With that being said, this is NOT a live performance; not the audio, at least. The audio is straight from 10,000 Days with some reverb and crowd noise added. Plus, in some shots, Adam is wearing a white shirt with white pants, while in other shots he's wearing a gray/charcoal-colored shirt. Also, notice the perfect harmonization with Maynard's singing in the "damn my eyes" part. TOOL doesn't use vocal harmonies live. All of this being said, this was masterfully put together and synched to the video (probably from at least 2 different performances). Enjoyable nonetheless... there's always time to enjoy TOOL!
10 years late to this party but I promised myself I'd never watch them online until I saw them live. This is absolutely brilliant. Brings me right back to the show. One of the finest fan cuts I've seen.
I dont care if this was live or not...this video was so badass and sick it made me dizzy...I almost couldnt take all its epicness...and Maynards rhythym @ 4:15 is perfect..
Anyone else always get goose flesh at the beginning as Adam is playing that epic riff after the first chaos and then the drum comes back in, doof, doof, doof....
This band has had such an amazing impact on my life in different aspects. So grateful I have the ability to enjoy their music where millions of others will never know or understand.
I have been told by numerous people (some who claim to have worked for at shows/roadies etc) that Tool have since the mid-late 90's recorded and filmed EVERY live show with the intention of one day releasing a live DVD, with some of those people theorizing that they wont release one until they are officially retired and no longer touring. Not that money has ever been a motivating factor behind Tool's work - Illustrated by the fact that they release an album every 50 years - NOT making a live DVD would be missing out on a massive financial opportunity, and lets face it, how many big bands from back in the day run out of money and end up reforming and doing sad reunion tours because they are broke. I'm pretty confident we will get one in the end :D
Fuck, man. I know it's easier to remember shit you wrote yourself but how does he keep it all in his head? It's so methodical. He's called "The Octopus" for a reason but holy shit, everytime I'm drawn back to this video I'm amazed by his talent. P.S. I absolutely love when he thrusts his arms into the cymbals. Idk why, but it just resonates with me. And I love how much fun he has with it towards the end when he starts laughing like, "I can't believe I wrote this shit AND just played that live and it was perfect! How did i do that?" I love this band so much. They aren't gods, im not some Stan that thinks everything that falls out of their butt is golden, but every member adds something to it that creates this weird puzzle that resonates emotionally with me and it's indescribable. Idk, im drunk and waxing poetic. Anywho, yeah, great fucking jam.
the riff is mostly the same fret over and over but it's probably my favorite ever. you can hear the technicality of it so clear, and to me it feels like something truly human in the bend of it, probably not a sound that's easy to replicate digitally oh I just read the description, you captured what I was talking about so damn well! this video is incredible, it's my favorite Tool song, so much love to you!
saw them in vancouver BC i believe it was 2017/2018, what i do remember is i could not take my eyes off of Justin playing bass, that man is a master of his class, and the vibe and energy he emitted was unreal, all of them, hands down THEE #1 band i've ever seen live

If I thought tomorrow would take you away

Im that old too. Watched Sober on Headbangers Ball. I love MJK in his red pajamas (union suit I guess) & work boots. I would have killed to go to Lollapalooza
Great edit man. If they ever make a concert DVD you should be chosen as the man for the job :)
+xwinglover I second that !
I do the same thing hahaha
But people don't have to know that. Ignorance is bliss.
Zyssiu Zysiu
Don't you mean "bliss"?
sw1tched Yes, sorry. English is not my native language.
Zyssiu Zysiu LPP
Best band ever, plain simple... 4 genius feeding each others with perfection.
It’s kinda sad how now one talks about Adam Jones
yeah man, everyone is always talking about Justin and Danny, and with good reason, but Adam is awesome in his own way.
I do ' at length
There's just no other way of listening to this masterpiece other than in max volume, i keep checking if I can turn it up even when I know it is already at the highest possible haha
Perfection in Cellular Resonance at a molecular level - a complete Body Experience. Epic.
I would like to say this is the highest quality of any Tool video I have seen or heard ever.
Outstanding job Dude.
And You Tube y'all can blow me.
They opened with this in Manchester this year (2024), as soon as Adam plays that opening riff, everyone knows they’re in for a trip. Amazing.
The best of the best…..of the best.
I love Tool so much. Only have gotten to see them once. Was the best show I have ever been to. Cannot wait for the new album. Maynard is so damn funny, and I love him on some of the newer podcasts.
4 unbelievable talents on their own. Together they are unbeatable 👌🏻
These guys are so dang precise, I forgot this was live concert footage and rhought it was the album version until I heard the crowd noise!!
Well the audio is studio version and the editor added crowd noises. They are still incredibly good live though.
This is probably one of their best. So hard hitting, contemplative and really rocks out. It's the double kicks that get me everytime! Go Danny!
Double kicks are awesone
I love the differences in each of their stage presence in this vid...
Danny- "keeping the beat, keeping the beat"
Justin - "watching the beat, watching the beat"
Adam - "this was supposed to be my day off"
Jimmy- "look guys, I am monke"
@Eduardo Gentile his real name is James Herbert Keenan, so... Jimmy. Just like the song, "Jimmy"
I love Tool, but they have sold out HARD in the last 3 years.
Wow.... the bass... well... the whole damn song!
Please - from one tool fan to another... do this again. The audio was fantastic. Please sync up as much as you can. This was beautiful
MrTroutguy just incredible
Agreed.
Few musicians in any gendre of music ever achieve the levels of being as synchronized and tight like Tool, and another example for sure is Rush.
tool will always be one of a kind and my personal favourite band, the fact that their live performances are as good as their recordings shows how insanely talented they are and theres nobody who play any song they write better then them, my life wouldn’t be the sane without them!
Got damn this is so good.
Tools live performances are Unforgettable.
This is my favorite Tool song, so im grateful for such a great upload.
One of my favorite Tool Songs of all time.
Look deep within, and follow your road to where ever it may go... And come back with something new!
Shine on forever
Shine on benevolent son
Shine down upon the broken
Shine until the two become one
This is probably the best live video of tool on the planet. Excellent job! what a pure treat for all us Tool fans. Awesomeness
10 years later... still no official live video...:-(...the guys aren´t getting younger...
The people of Jambi Province in Sumatra Indonesia have taken this song to heart and called it their province's official anthem and are expecting a tour from Tool soon.
Damn, imagine that! "Stand for the anthem... Hay! You there! No headbanging!"
That's very cool. Thank you for sharing.
Man, I'd say this is a gift from the Goddess, but it's a gift from you. I looked so long for a tool live video with good audio performance. Thank you SO MUCH!
I love the tone on that bass. it sounds like a damn rockslide
Why is Tool so badass? Seriously.
I just can't believe how good this is... It's just so amazing.
I’ve been a metal head for 39 years. How the hell did this band circumvent my ears ? I love it.
This I can’t describe how amazing this band is and their performances and how nice it was somewhat captivated here but in the end you have to see them live for yourself to truly get the whole experience...
I've had this song in my dreams before and been years without listening. I dedicate this song to my daughter and children. Peace.
Great editing in this clip. Different shows put together perfectly.
Exactly Bro... Epic solo.
Pasa nada tio. Venezuela here Chicano.
This video was made specifically to make people argue in comments! Genius!
So excited to see these guys tonight in Minneapolis. I vow to see them each and every time they tour.
I was there too, fellow Snow Person :)
@@TheBeanis8 great show as always.
Glad to see another tOOl and Futurama fan. I flipped a coin to pick my color. Foghat grey.
I frkn looooove this song so much I'm 55 yrs old grandma my son is in when towers fall hes lead guitar we LOVE TOOL N METAL I DONT KNOW HOW PEOPLE LIVE WITHOUT METAL😝😝😝🤑
I miss it when you could see tool shows like this
incredible. sounds just like the studio version.they are perfect
This is the greatest thing ever in the history of ever times 10,000 to the max big time for real
I'm sorry...I really think there's something very wrong with you if you can't stop and appreciate the magnificence of this bomb ass group;
Never Fails! Tool gives me chills every time I listen to them! ❄ 🤘
10 years late to this party but I promised myself I'd never watch them online until I saw them live. This is absolutely brilliant. Brings me right back to the show. One of the finest fan cuts I've seen.
I m a older generation lovr metal i frkn love this badass
Song i loved it so much when i first heard it
💯✌❤🧂🧂🧂
Amazing what a little reverb can do :D
This is absolutely fantastic!! The editing, the sync....perfect! Incredible job!!
I dont care if this was live or not...this video was so badass and sick it made me dizzy...I almost couldnt take all its epicness...and Maynards rhythym @ 4:15 is perfect..
ikr
it's live
Not really, the video is a mix from 6 differents lives and the audio is from their live in Ozzfest
ah ... makes sense. seems a touch off synch wise
David Vitale He did a really awesome job with the sound editing tho
Anyone else always get goose flesh at the beginning as Adam is playing that epic riff after the first chaos and then the drum comes back in, doof, doof, doof....
Just when you think a Tool song is over its just getting started.
I don't understand how they did this live, spot-on down to Adam's guitar talking and MJK's vocal fades... absolutely mystifying.
It's the studio version synced with a live video with some reverb and crowd noises to make it seem live.
this is not real lol.
They are such a tight band even live they play every note, every beat, as the studio.
Danny needs like 3 more cymbals, another kick, and at least one more gong. He looks bored with that beginner kit.
Hey that's pretty good.
Manuel Hernandez Hey that's pretty pickley
Linus Haggar hey that's mildly appropriate
:-}
# MEGALOMANIAC I heard Peart's kit referred to as elephantine.
I knew it was the studio track when mjk started to sing...but very well done mixing audio and video
How did i do that?"
I love this band so much.
"A heart that runs like that, won't run long." (Smiles)
These guys are like a machine. They feed off each other's playing and make each other better. Fucking Amazing !!!!!!!!!
I absolutely love Tool from the start, hearing this and seeing it live, everytime I have to hear all the way.
Everyone, you need it all.
the riff is mostly the same fret over and over but it's probably my favorite ever. you can hear the technicality of it so clear, and to me it feels like something truly human in the bend of it, probably not a sound that's easy to replicate digitally
oh I just read the description, you captured what I was talking about so damn well! this video is incredible, it's my favorite Tool song, so much love to you!
It sounds like studio version with reverb, but I like it.
It is
@@blackdog5186 I concur brother.
you are a genius bro. its perfect.
+Tommaso Remo Works For Me, Lol....
saw them in vancouver BC i believe it was 2017/2018, what i do remember is i could not take my eyes off of Justin playing bass, that man is a master of his class, and the vibe and energy he emitted was unreal, all of them, hands down THEE #1 band i've ever seen live
I dropped acid in 2001 in Toronto with MJK backstage. I had a sign saying free acid here hahaha
Genius work of editing here, thank you
The audio quality of this video is absolutely amazing. Great job!
