My CSC failed... I'm doing this right now (removing the driveshaft at this moment). Your video is extremely helpful to give me confidence again to do the job myself, just like with the ACE kit, you make it look easy and you take the time to explain in detail, and film in detail as well. Thank you!!
@@HirschPower if you have the tools, time and place, it's easy. Just takes time. This was my first time as well, and Robert Carizon explained everything to perfection. What took me most of the time was to put the transmission back in, my mistake was buying the Harbor Freight transmission jack (like a small table, scissor jack non hydraulic). That one was not adjustable, only up and down. Get one like what he uses in this video. Otherwise it's easier to be strong, bear hug the transmission and align it like Rambo would without tools. That was the only frustrating part and was because of not having a good transmision jack.
I'll give you guys a tip with removing the knob. Get duck tape and cut a long piece out and loop it so it essentially becomes double-sided duck tape. Now wrap it around the knob, grab on to it and the hold will grip to both your skin and the knob and spin right off. You can do this with pretty much ANYTHING. I've never really ever had to use wrenches etc for stuff like this, plumbing, all sorts of pipe work because this works a treat as long as the surface is dry. Best part is... No damage!
I love how you just wiggled it and it came out. I have been over here wiggling and giggling it for good 20 min and it’s not coming apart, small gap but not all the way out. And yes I removed all the bolts
Did you get it out(a month later lol). Was everything in alignment to take strain off any given binding point? The more level and in line everything is...maybe even the slightest upwards force lifting transmission(level/don't let it sag). All those alignment pins and the input shaft/pressure plate...lot of places it could bind up.
After a week getting my Z, I bought a Tomei aluminum shift knob. I used a curved jaw vise grips, wide rubber bands to remove my OEM shift knob. Hard lines with fluid in them, you can use vacuum rubber caps to prevent spills.
Grat video. At this very moment I'm removing my transmission as well. Im following your steps as a "guide". So far pretty easy. Just to add, next time use the Performance Tool oil filter removal tool from a local auto parts store. Is a thick rubber strap with a handle. I removed my shift knob without a single scratch.
12:20 that is a flare wrench. Following your vid for visual reference for my 07 hr 350z transmission drop. Great DIY sir! I'm in South Arlington near the parks mall...not too far from ya
Great video! How delicate is the process of seperating the transmission from engine as to not damaging the input shaft? Worried about damaging the trans. Thanks !
I have a 2008 G37 Coupe... Got everything installed just can't find any torque specs for the transmission bolts. Absolutely nothing in my owners manual
Do you HAVE to remove the transmission oil if your taking off the transmission and putting a new transmission front cover like you do on the CSC kit I had the CSC delete kit n going back to Oem style CSC.
Getting ready to do this, thanks for the great video! My 370z has the rear diff with cooling fins on the housing for some reason. So I can't jack it up from the diff. This it would be ok with just the front up? The trans won't be level so it will probably be a bit more difficult.
I thought the same, and i just successfully did this without removing the shift knob. The re-install was a pain and it would be a lot easier to get to the 3 bolts attached to the plate below and the 4 bolts holding the shiter in place without the rubber boot being in the way. Invest in a swivel socket set.
@@alwayslast179 I've yet to do this, but watching several videos and looking through the shop manual. It appears that the three bolts from the shifter need to be removed to gain clearance.
Awesome video, fantastic DIY. Quick question, was the trans able to roll out from underneath vehicle with the jack stands and trans jack you used? I am about to tackle the same project on my 09 G37 but I want to make sure I have it tall enough as I will be replacing trans.
On the 370z, with as high the car was jacked up (mentioned in the beginning) i was able to scoot the transmission back through the rear of the car, albeit with some tilting back and forth of the jack head to make clearance.
Quick question, what points of the car did you use your floor jack to your lift your car in the air and where are the strongest points to the jack stands? I m doing the same work to my Z this weekend, any pointers will help. Thanks in advance!!
I put the jack stands right behind the pinch welds, where the markings are for the scissor jacks. Jacked the car up from the sides initially, then when it was high enough, moved in from the front/rear with the larger floor jack. Used the differential for the rear jack point, and a piece of frame behind the engine for a front. Pretty much any solid piece of frame will do. Just make sure you get it high in the air to clear the bell housing, best of luck!
Is there any trick to reinstalling the transmission back into place? I tried wrestling mine for hours yesterday and got absolutely nothing realigned properly. I opened the hole in the clutch fork area but the shaft never wanted to slide all the way in.
It is a pain in the ass, there really isn't much of a trick per say. Try to visually get it lined up as best you can, and then I grabbed it from the rear (using the support bars for the shift linkage) and started shaking it around to get it to slide in place. The transmission has to be lined up close to perfecy, the shift linkage support frame should be nearly touching the top of the transmission tunnel. Try rotating the spline a bit too in case it's not in sync with the engine in terms of the teeth meshing. Other than that, just check that there's nothing obstructing your way.
I have a problem w my g35x 2008 awd first gear over revs to 7000pms then will kick the gear in. After I’ll drive the car like normal and hits every gear perfectly. Please help. DESPERATE!!!!

I haven't seen it done this way. I thinknit's possible but would require you to remove hoses and things from the back of the manifold to get enough room to lower in a wrench. Doing from below with extensions is these easiest way imo.

Not an easy job. Taking the time to record and share your knowledge is much appreciated.
Thank you for posting these DIY videos, there's not too many on the Z. Appreciated and very helpful!

Really close just swaped my auto on 08 g37 coupe I think there’s an extra sensor and no need to drop shifter but otherwise same
Yeah I ended up switching mine and can’t figure out why I have a rev limiter when out into driive and shifts are knocking
Is this the stronger cd009 ?
Next time un bolt the bracket then it will tilt you have more room for the tops bolts
Thank you for this video as I'm considering doing this myself.

dope video like literally the best I've found so far. Thanks lol
Is it the same process for a automatic?
Should I do this myself ? Or just pay 250 to get it installed ? Lol I don’t have a transmission stand Nd not enough tools
Try using a rubber band type oil filter remover to remove the shift knob without damage. It’s made to grip & crank. Cheaper than a new shift knob. 🤣
Would this apply to an automatic for the most part also?
Whatd you do to stop the clutch fluid?
will be doing this on my 08 350z 💪🏽💪🏽
Use a strap wrench for oil filters... or strapped pipe wrench. EZPZ and you don't damage your shit. Right tool / right job.
