    Refrigerator power cord is too short, does not reach the refrigerator plug. Whatever you do, please do not have your refrigerator plug into extension cords. This is a fire risk, and is your refrigerator outlet not working? Then replace your refrigerator outlet with a new one, don't just get a refrigerator plug into an extension cord.
    Your only choice is to move the refrigerator outlet box down the wall lower. so the power cord will reach. You do not need a fridge power cord replacement.
    Newer refrigerators these days have shorter power refrigerator power cables than the older refrigerator models that they replace.
    Have you found yourself with a major engineering disaster after buying a new refrigerator, and you find your power cord is too short and does not reach the refrigerator outlet receptacle? Or is your refrigerator outlet not working? You don't need a fridge power cord replacement.
    Refrigerator plug into extension cord? Don't do it! It is a violation of the National Electric Code
    Make sure you get the correct refrigerator outlet type to connect to your refrigerator circuit. Most are on dedicated 20 amp refrigerator circuits, we show you in this video the 20 amp refrigerator outlet type. Make sure to choose a spot far enough down the wall that your refrigerator power cord will easily reach it. We recommend that you make a dedicated 20 amp refrigerator circuit with its own breaker switch, and that you use only a single refrigerator electrical outlet.
    How to Move a Refrigerator Outlet Down the Wall
    This video also shows you how to change your refrigerator electrical wiring to move the refrigerator outlet box down the wall. the refrigerator electrical connection is straightforward, just follow all of our installation and refrigerator wiring instructions in this video.
    Moving refrigerator outlet box
    Once you begin moving the refrigerator outlet box down the wall, select the spot, then feed the 12-2 Romex wire from the old refrigerator outlet box above, and feed the Romex down the wall to the new refrigerator outlet box, and wire up the 20 amp refrigerator outlet. In this example, we used a 20 amp tamper resistance refrigerator outlet receptacle.
    After you move electrical box down the wall, be sure to follow our directions for the refrigerator electrical connections otherwise you'll find your refrigerator outlet not working.
    Once the wiring of your refrigerator electrical outlet is complete
    After you move fridge outlet box and wire up the new electrical receptacle, remember to test it with an outlet tester. Now you know how to move electrical boxes of all kinds and are ready to tackle your DIY remodeling project. And please remember, do not ever connect your refrigerator plug into extension cords.
    So if your refrigerator outlet not working for you at the current height, and your refrigerator power cord is not working, then it is time to move electrical box for the fridge down the wall closer to the floor. Just make sure you install the correct refrigerator outlet type as shown in this video, and linked to on Amazon in this video description.

    What problems have you encountered with your refrigerator? Let us know in the comments below.

      Thanks for the video, very helpful! One question, could you have kept the top outlet live instead of covering it with a plate?

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  5 років тому +1

      @@charboob1 I'm a bit conservative on this, I feel the refrigerator should be on a single dedicated 20 Amp outlet. If you leave that upper outlet there, some idiot will come in later with an unapproved extension cord, and plug God knows what into it, add a triple block to load the whole family's appliances, or marijuana growing hydroponic lights, and one of those items later causes the breaker to trip for this branch circuit (or dedicated circuit), now your fridge ends up with no power while you're gone, and food starts melting and rotting. Not a good combo. I could not find a specific code in my 2017 National Electric Code handbook that forbids you doing this, but would prefer not to enable the stupidity of others. Now, since there is no explicit NEC code that singles out and forbids other outlets on the same branch as the fridge, nor is there any code requiring a dedicated 20 amp refrigerator circuit, many fridge manufactures tell you in their instructions that a single outlet 20 amp is mandatory. Don't mistake this as NEC code, it is required by the manufacturer. Tamper proofing not needed on this outlet because it is out of reach of small kids behind the fridge. In my perfect ideal world, Your kitchen should really have 7 circuits:
      1) Dedicated Range 50 Amp with 6/3 plus ground cable
      2) Dedicated Microwave 20 Amp single outlet
      3) Dedicated Refrigerator 20 Amp single outlet
      4) Dedicated Garbage Disposal, non GFCI
      5) Dedicated Dishwasher, with GFCI
      6) 2 separate branches of outlets for counter tops, all tamper proof, GFCI, and AFCI
      7) Kitchen Lighting on it's own 15 amp circuit

      Could you do this if the original outlet was GFCI?

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  5 років тому +1

      @@charboob1 Yes you could still move it but it does not make sense to have this refrigerator outlet as a GFCI 1st of all it's not required because it is out of reach of the child. 2nd of all if it were to ever go off elderly people would not be able to move the refrigerator to reset the GFCI. So the most proper place to put a GFCI to protect this outlet would be in the fuse panel where they make the actual breaker a GFCI breaker. Also you should make sure that the 20 amp outlet for the refrigerator is the only outlet on that circuit is possible I prefer to have the refrigerator with its own dedicated circuit.

    Hello
    I have a workshop and all the wiring in the walls (ordinary walls from studs and drywall) is done in the usual way. Can I replace all wiring inside the walls with wiring in a steel metal conduit ? I want to be sure that the wires are well protected from damage by mice and from any other damage. Even if a short circuit occurs (if for some reason, the breaker doesn’t work) and the wiring starts to heat up, the metal conduit will protect the inside of the walls from fire. It seems to me that this is safer than the usual type of wiring. Am I right and Is this alteration of the wiring permitted by the rules?
    Thank you.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 роки тому

      You can use conduit, no problem, make sure there are no hidden junctions behind the drywall. If you have to make junction box somewhere to connect some wires, make sure it has a plate over it on the wall, or save all your junctions for an outlet box. Since you'll likely be upgrading to metal boxes, make sure the metal boxes are grounded, using a green ground screw, so when the 3 wires enter the box, the bare ground wire wraps around the green ground screw.

      Is it correct my idea that the wiring in a metal conduit is more fireproof? What do you think?

    Jeff, I’m converting my three-season room to a four-season room. Taking out the plastic screen windows that run floor to cieling and put in double hung windows framed 27” above the floor. There are four outlets mounted externally in metals boxes (on the floor). I want move them into the wall in new boxes flushed mounted. I will install tongue-n-groove below the windows. So, any video moving electrical boxes and wiring them? Thx!!

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 роки тому

      This is all we have for now. But remember you can't have any hidden wiring connections in the wall they must be in a junction box with a blank wall plate for access, un less you can go back tot he panel and run a full home run length Romex cable to the outlet box.

    • @revjbarth
      @revjbarth 3 роки тому

      What if the electric cable is cut in the crawl space , put in a plated metal junction box the floor and a whole new line run to each outlet? Or, does the wiring have to go all the way back to the box?

      Should be an appliance rated cord which is for motor use
