    Excellent review! A too rare review where someone actually goes through the stuff one might wonder about. Of all the reviews I've seen and read I just now heard and SAW why you need those filters. And a first review that says that all the things this thingie offers actually WORK JUST AS FINE without the need for any addons or the use of your phone (which I hate using too). I was actually just thinking about it today that do I need to buy the scroller for this. No! You just showed how nicely it works without it. And I loved how you showed how you can just as easily set the active tracking from the little screen (without the need for phone as so many reviews have neglected to point out while going through exessively how you need your PHONE all the time to take advantage of this thing). Thank you and have a nice week!

    That's a good review on hyper-lapse. I am not a great fan of vertical videos, so that should not be a problem. Love those magnetic filters. Definitely, need to buy this. I can easily dump all the heavy gimbal, camera gear, big filters, etc when I go hiking in the Himalayas. All you need is an Osmo pocket and a power bank. Great review. Thanks for sharing.

  • @ThisIsOurRetirement
    @ThisIsOurRetirement 5 років тому

    Great video, I like how you do your hyperlapse instead of using time lapse. I have one and like it a lot it doesn't get noticed so can film stuff that a bigger camera would attract the do not film here folks. Have you seen the magnetic wide angle lens filters that are becoming available, would give a GoPro wide angle of view, I'm thinking of getting one. I also have the Freewell kit very useful.

    You made very good points and they come from experience.
    Some people dismiss it by comparing to gopro or a phone camera but they are missing the point that this thing is a gimbal at the end of the day and it can do stuff like active tracking or tilt locking. These features make it very easy to get cinematic looking footage.
    What I want next from dji is a more advanced version of this with maybe the 1" sensor from mavic 2 pro, a bit more physical controls and palm size instead of pocket size.

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  5 років тому +1

      Me too. I think the osmo pocket as it stands is really interesting but I'm even more excited to see what Osmo Pocket 3/4/5 might look like with a better sensor etc

    A great review which has left my credit card chafing at the bit! My last doubt is due to on line comments about the Osmo Pocket tendency to focus hunt in certain situations. Have you experienced this? Can it be overcome? I have also read a number of comments saying that the Freewell budget kit filters scratch the Osmo Pocket lens. It looks like you are using the All Day - 4k series - 8 pack. Have you noticed any problems with these? Thanks

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  5 років тому

      Hi! While the focus hunting has happened once or twice, my theory is that people rushed to get reviews out and didn't update the firmware, which addresses both audio quality and focusing... The two things most people were complaining about.
      You can see in one of my selfie shots that I am out of focus and the background is in focus, so it isn't perfect, but with the firmware update I believe it is more than manageable 😁
      As for the freewell nds, the only parts that actually touch the lens are at the very edges, as you can see in the b-roll on my vid. I think the only way you could scratch your lens is if you tried to remove them by dragging them sideways off rather than straight off, if you get what I mean? That's my experience anyway. I hope that helps and hope you enjoy your Pocket!

    Please, a tutorial for your post in your hyperlapses... Which sw do you use? Do you use ND filters for recording your hyperlapses? How do you apply motion blur? I have tried several times to create hyperlapses but the up and down bouncing when walking makes no professional results. I will try with a 4th axis gimbal. Do you capture your hyperlapses directly walking or uding a 4t axis gimbal?

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  5 років тому

      I just walk nice and slow, without any extra stabilisation, and I find that speeding it up in post smooths it up a lot. Just really concentrate on your movement. I imagine I'm holding a really full pint of beer 🍺
      As for motion blur you can add an ND to slow your shutter, and there's much less editing needed in post. Or you can add motion blur in. I use Final Cut X and I use Ryan Nangle's free plugins. He has a brilliant channel and a great tutorial on motion blur 😊

    Well done on a brilliant, natural, informative and 'human' review. I'm planning on buying the Osmo Pocket, but having been a bit underwhelmed by both the Osmo and the Osmo mobile 2, I wanted to hear from as many users as possible about the various pros and cons. Yours is the first one which wasn't either dry, monotone and overly 'bit-rate drenched' or presented by a hyperactive tech geek with a heavy accent and who seemingly lacks the ability to change on-screen menus to English since he's speaking English (allegedly). I don't mean to sound racist because different accents don't bother me in the slightest, it's just that wherever these reviewers are from, they seem to copy each other in the weird, hyperactive, trying desperately to be funny, begging for likes syntax ("Hi - guys and welcome to anozer greeeat tech and camera review from me, here in the centre of the universe, ha ha just kidding friends, it's my Nana's house - and I want to talk you today about ze amaaaazingly tiny Osmo Pocket, it has really good camera on a gimbal which fit in your pocket...no really guys, it's great, now let me read you the various bit-rates in every possible frame rate for half an hour..."). So to say your honest, personable review was a breath of fresh air is an understatement. THANK YOU!! And just for that, I'm going to smoosh your subscribe button with my very large, unweildy hands!

  • @TravelsByTrike

    Thanks for the review. Like you, when the Osmo 1st came out it seemed 1st gen and I waited for a 2nd gen. The 2nd gen still isn't out and the price has come down significantly and I broke down and bought it. After a week, I am finding it to be a super fun camera. I really wish the wireless base had a microphone port but I'm sure DJI will be releasing one soon. Take care and happy smushing.
