I recently bought everything that you featured in this video, including the pixie tripod. If you haven’t already got this by now GET IT!!! Not only is it a super nice mini tripod, because you can push the little button (that adjusts the angle super easy) you can tilt it towards you to get a slight extension, which makes a big FOV advantage. In addition, the little button serves as strain relief for the audio connection, by just hooking one of the little curls on the red Rode Wireless Go cable. It’s a must have!!!

As always Russ, I appreciate your down to Earth personality and rawness. I used my Osmo Pocket for my family vacation this past summer and it took some amazing photos, videos and time/motion lapses... truly a remarkable device for the size. I actually started with the Osmo Pocket and felt it checked every box for me on the "make awesome videos easily" with the least amount of tools. I quickly realized that I needed a dedicated camera to help fill in the gaps that the Osmo Pocket alone couldn't address such as the ability to zoom in for content. I ended up also getting a Lumix G85 camera that also does amazing 4K video btw, but the compact size of this and the Osmo Pocket mean that I don't have to give up anything. I can take amazing photos and videos and everything stays nice and compact.
I think the stand alone audio quality of the Osmo Pocket is still pretty good by itself by listening to your video... yea it sounds different but it was still good...
Personally, I use the pocket when I film weddings. It’s not my main cam, but it serves as an awesome steady cam for B roll shots, and notably the photo session, getting a lot of good candid stuff. I absolutely love the fact that I can be up and shooting within four or five seconds when I’m in a pinch. No set up, no balancing, and the only thing that really it lacks is that Bokeh, and lowlight performance. That said, 4k60 is agame changer for slo mo. I still export in 1080P, so filming in 4K on my Mavic air and Osmo pocket offers incredible versatility while I’m editing. I don’t use the camera as a vlogging style camera, and rarely do I use the audio. I do plan on picking up the rode device you have there, those are super convenient- great video, keep em coming!
Thank you Russ, this is so helpful. I got the Osmo pocket as well but haven’t been using it as I should. I think it’s because for it to be productive you need to have the correct gear. Great video, as always Russ. Love it when you just walk around in the scenic aerea. When you change the sound for the first time it sounds weird, very different from the first sound. The first sound is a bit warmer and the second has a high pitch, but that dissapeares when you hold your mike a little lower. When you change back from the second to the first sound the difference is also huge and you have to get used to it again for a few seconds. I bought my Osmo Pocket a month ago and I love that thing. I also have the Osmo Mobile, and that one delivers great video, but it's too big and too notable. Most people think I am checking my iPhone when I'm on a bench with the Osmo Pocket. Kids and also adults act natural then, which they would not do if they knew they're being filmed. That's it for now. Keep up the good work! And oh, you may always contact me for my address, to send me that great cap haha 🙇♀️😂👍

While I am not a drone enthusiast I really enjoy your videos, especially on the DJI products like this and the Osmo Action. Thank your for what you do.
Does Freewell make and ND filter that will sit on top of the wide angle lens? I love the wide angel but need ND most of the time. Thanks for the great video.
I have the same setup but with and add on, a 90 degree usb-c angel between osmo and mic adapter, in that way you get the connector under phone and a better protection. Really love you have my national hymn in you video.
I wish the next version of the Pocket to have the Hasselblad camera on the Mavic 2, but with 4k60. I'd like to use the Moment Animophic lens for my wide angle setup.
Excellent video... I have been looking for months for a new kit. I have gone through cranes, new DSLR, mirror less, you name it but now I have decided to get the DJI Osmo pocket and the Rode GO. Cheers!
I notice several times in your video that the Ulanzi bracket came into the frame when panning to your left. That seems to be a major flaw IMHO. Did you notice it @51Drones?
Thank you for this very informative video. As a person who couldn't afford to spend too much to do trial and error by purchasing accessories here and there to see which fits best, this video helps a lot. Really appreciate it.
Hi, brother. Nacy and I always watch you on our TV so all we could do is hit like. But I wanted to thank you for all you do. I bought all this equipment and love it. We still need the Rhode.
New subscriber. Have been looking at these because I was diagnosed with a terminal neurological illness and want to show my life for my family so they can go back and watch me later on.
Hi Russ. It's that old adage "the best camera is the one you have on you!" There's is also another phrase that comes to mind whenever I see people who have all the "top gear" and want you to know that. All the gear and no idea! Your post is proof you don't need all that expensive stuff to do UA-cam, most people will be viewing the content on a smartphone, so it doesn't need to be super high-res equipment. I too am looking into improving audio, but I would like it for skiing, as well as vlogging. Most of the action camera audio boosting requires you to sacrifice the waterproofing of the camera, it would be great if an action camera company got together with someone like Rode to integrate their receiver into the camera, that would be great!
Good honest setup. I have been considering the Rode setup for a few weeks and this is just more proof that good audio doesn’t have to cost thousands. Thanks for the content.
Russ, I feel like I've been on a similar journey this past few months, testing a bunch of different mic configurations. A couple of thoughts to share: In my use case, I'm often trying to capture an outdoor experience along with some commentary...so voice quality is important, but I also don't want to lose the ambient sounds (like birds chirping, cicadas, etc)...so for me the internal Pocket mic is adequate MOST of the time for that particular situation - a lav mic just would not adequately capture ambient sounds (which is obviously WHY you'd use one when you're wanting the focus almost exclusively on the voice). But the other thought I have about your setup is that when you add that Ulanzi bracket and cellphone to the rig...well...it just seems to violate the whole reason why you'd get the Pocket in the first place. Extreme compact portability. Maybe I just need to try it... But I also have used (prior to getting the Pocket) the Osmo Mobile 2 with my Galaxy S9+ and have gotten great results with that (about the size of your Pocket/bracket rig, but also about $250 cheaper since you don't need the Pocket or the audio adapter). Plus there's the added benefit with the Osmo Mobile (I think they're shipping the 3 now?) of when the phone camera tech improves, you just start using the new phone with it. Oh...and ridiculously good battery life on that thing... Hmmm...why am I using the Pocket again? Oh right! Portability! But see how this brings me back to square 1? Anyway, like I said, maybe I just need to try it! I do really appreciate your honest opinions, my friend...plus you have the 'heart of a teacher' which is also a quality I look for in channels I subscribe to. Keep up that great work!
ReeWray I should have read your post BEFORE I posted mine because I was thinking exactly the same thing. I'm on the fence about getting the pocket since I already have the ZHIYUN Smooth 2 and use it with my iphone. I get the idea of convenience, size and portability, but once you bring the phone into the equation it defeats the purpose.
@@MichaelKrisa might give the Hero8 a serious look. I have both and now used the Hero8 about 75%of the time due to easier more precise shot framing... And just better ruggedness for out on the trails... Did a video comparing them a month ago that might be helpful for you.

With respect, I beg to differ on the audio side. For general ambience for general filming, the on camera audio is very clean and your voice was nicely mixed. For vlogging, to suppress background noise, the adapter is better, but your voice sounds definitely BOOMY! Good work👍 About to dive into the Osmo universe 😎
What a great video. You don’t often see people speak the speak and walk the walk on the equipment they use when explaining how great budget equipment is as opposed to a more expensive option. Great job 👍
I have the pocket but don't use it as much as i'd like. This setup seems legit! Most of my videos are drone footage, so this would help with adding additional content to my videos. Btw, love the channel and content!
Thanks for this video, I have been in two minds about the pocket and vlog set up. But this has just helped confirm it. Thank you, great video and love the audio!!
I really love the Rode Go as well. - This is a great set up. After getting the iPhone 11 pro max, I am thinking, all I need is the phone! The audio is even decent. But, seriously, the video is smooth and stable, their colors finally look great and I have four lenses built in now. It isn’t a phone with a camera anymore. It is a legitimate camera.
The Osmo Pocket is realty an awesome camera... The image quality is great. What O enjoy the most is it’s portability. I can also shoot my videos without a lot of people noticing.
I use a iPhone 8 for my channel, what’s your point of view about switching to the pocket?? Also do you need your mobile attached to the pocket. I found the video very informative. Thanks Barry Spain 🇪🇸
I was about to eat you alive because you were encouraging us to buy a $250+ wireless rodeo system hahahaha and then you corrected course and presented the much less mic from rodeo which also will give us a good quality sound. Sometimes we use small devices but when you start adding one the cost of all the peripherals to get where you want to be, becomes a expensive experience. This is why sometimes is worth to buy the expensive stuff you got everything in one package. I agree with you, the osmopocket as become my carry everywhere camera and I purchased the stick from DJI and with the wireless adapter is the perfect rig for me to take pics and the occasional video. I really love your channel, you are very honest and down to earth in your reviews. Let's hope I win the hat I like it. Mind you have to send it to Down Under!

I honestly couldn't tell that you downgraded and it sounds and looks fantastic. It inspires me to use my osmo pocket go more and possibly start a channel myself. I think you are safe to sell your "better" equipment and I'm looking forward to the osmo content you're going to be able to produce moving forward. Quality stuff and keep up the good work!
Great video! Just bought a DJI Osmo Pocket with the official expansion kit for less than half the original price to replace my Fimi Palm and it's still such an excellent device! Also bought the Rollei/Ulanzi phone mount and the Freewell wideangle lens. Update: what a brilliant piece of camera! Just made my first vlog with it and I’m in love 😍
I'm going to buy one as well I have a GoPro 4 and a GoPro 5 I still use my old school flip camera and I have a Samsung as well but this looks like a cool camera and somebody I want to get a drone I have sunglasses as well that are fun to be with
Agree with the new wide angle attachment and the updates that have sorted the auto focusing.
It’s great
Great video, as always Russ.
This is the reason I need to buy op badly 😭
All about solutions that save money. Great job sharing these helpful product tips and reviews.
Love my Osmo Pocket! Use it for our channel for most videos! Great video!!
I just bought the osmo pocket from DJi I watched a lot of videos this Video helped me everything u got with the osmo as for someone like me a beginner I can afford all of the other items to get what I want to start my own Ytube channel thank you I bought the Nikon D5500 and everything is $$$$$ that I need to go with it but this Video gave me a better idea
Personaly I use Zennheiser wireless lavs and a Zoom H6 audio recorder. Great audio quality, but need to sync in post....I film with an Osmo with Zenmuse X5.
Would never have found your channel if UA-cam hadn't recommended it. Glad it did, enjoyable video and you're a fun guy! Thanks for sharing
Honestly this was a dope video. I was actually looking for an in depth review about the product and this was really useful.
You are a natural presenter . . . .great content and this was very helpful. Love the music in the background.
Certainly considering this set up.
No
Yeah I’m hoping they make something like this as well.
Not much wrong with the OP camera. But V2 should have wifi and mic jack built in.
You mean lots of firmware updates but their is no next version on Osmo Pocket
I wish the same thing for the osmo pro 2 i wish to have the x7 camera on the osmo pro 2
@@justy085 how do you know there is no osmo pocket 2?
Excellent video... I have been looking for months for a new kit. I have gone through cranes, new DSLR, mirror less, you name it but now I have decided to get the DJI Osmo pocket and the Rode GO. Cheers!
I notice several times in your video that the Ulanzi bracket came into the frame when panning to your left. That seems to be a major flaw IMHO. Did you notice it @51Drones?
I think that was the mic, not the bracket
That was the Rode Go, which sticks out way in front of the phone. That means changing the angle you hold the Pocket.
Thank you for this very informative video. As a person who couldn't afford to spend too much to do trial and error by purchasing accessories here and there to see which fits best, this video helps a lot. Really appreciate it.
Some great tips there Russ - I've not been using my Pocket as much as I could/should, but some tips there to encourage me to push it harder
Hi, brother. Nacy and I always watch you on our TV so all we could do is hit like. But I wanted to thank you for all you do. I bought all this equipment and love it. We still need the Rhode.
That's a mega set up, think I'm going to have to get the Diety Lav
Great tips for a portable set up! He best camera is always the one you have on you. This is compact and an easy setup. Perfect for vlogging
New subscriber. Have been looking at these because I was diagnosed with a terminal neurological illness and want to show my life for my family so they can go back and watch me later on.
I'm in! Got my sub and I'm heading to Amazon! Just bought the osmo a couple weeks ago.
Ah I agree with you! Story is super important☝️
Never can go wrong with saving some money.
I've been running the same setup for about 4 months....Its truely the best setup for vloging...and actually a great BTS camera also...
When the mosquito hit the face at 4:06 I felt that.
you are a nerd or an alien specie
Wow, this video is awesome. I just got a DJI Osmo Pocket and the sound quality with your set up is incredible.
Great advice man!. I have just purchased one wide-angle lens while watching the video. Looking forward to receiving it.
All great points!
ReeWray Have you got the link to that comparison? Thank you

I have the Pocket and now the Action plus drones to expand my video ability for my research. Glad to see the use by you for diy beginners.
4:07 that moment when a mosquito lands on his left cheek. I can't. slap that damn thing. now!
Dear 51 drones, as a total newbie to this Osmo set up I am eternally grateful to you and wish to thank you for all the links that have made my shopping much easier.
I am hooked immediately to your channel and have obviously subscribed. Keep up the great work and enjoy that festival of yours 🍺
I watched this whole video, and I got value , thank you ... nice rig. I was impressed by NO NOISE in a windy area.
Shout out for the Mr Beast hoodie
What a great video. You don’t often see people speak the speak and walk the walk on the equipment they use when explaining how great budget equipment is as opposed to a more expensive option. Great job 👍
Disabled, no insurance, little income. You may have helped me with a solution to start blogging! Let me check the prices.
Just started watching you in the past few weeks. - Appreciate all of your video (and audio) tips!
Every time I see video from the Osmo pocket I drool just a little. It does such a fantastic job for such a small device.
Osmo Action is also good for vlogging. Great stabilization at 4k/60fps and it has a wide angle lens. I record audio externally and sync it in post
Best video for actually giving a good review on products! Just got my osmo pocket and I didn’t know what accessories were good to get so thanks!!
I've got the Osmo Mobile 3 and this vid had convinced me to get the Pocket. Cheers fort the advice.
Great information! I just purchased the DJI Pocket. It arrived last night!
Thanks for this, I've been searching for better audio solutions with the Pocket for a while, your set up seems like the way to go.
Amazing set up to start with videos!
I recently got the Extension Rod and it's fantastic! It will work very well with everything you already have but will give you even more flexibility.
Turner's Tech Talk extension rod really needs the WiFi adapter, which doesn’t work with the audio adapter. So not quite there yet.
Mic sounds sooooo good!
I just got an Osmo Pocket over a week ago and plan to use it on my trip next week. I like your set up and will purchase the accessories you mentioned 👍👍
Thanks for making this video. I've been researching for the past 2 months. Your whole setup is awesome.
Im just now buying the pocket 3 Russ thanks so very much this has truly helped me to becide on some light portable road gear for my Drone stuff thank you
I thought this video was old but see nee post here as of late, jumping on the osmo pocket bandwagon late but I think its gonna be fun
I know your prize giveaway is over but not concerned about that. Your content and quality will not suffer for "downgrading" to this setup.
Since I already own a Rode Wireless Go and a few cheap but good lavalier mics and a Rode Video Micro it seems I will use almost exactly the same setup as you in this video when I want to pack as light as possible! It seems like a great sollution!
Bonus for playing the Swedish National Anthem and showing us the "Dalahäst"! I really got surprised when you started playing the National Anthem! 😀
The Scandinavian Festival seems like a treat! It would really be something to visit!
Thanks for the info... been debating getting an OSMO pocket trying to figure out what accessories... your video helped!!!
Hallelujah, at last, ........ an informative, practical, ego-free, no BS, video gear review. Thankyou.
Only down-side is I watched it too late for a chance of the hat-draw! ..... hey-ho .... snooze, you loose :)
