I also own a DJI Osmo Pocket and for being an internal microphone it's pretty good, but when you start recording it in a more windy and noisy background, you'll find that DJI Osmo Pocket's internal mic really isn't feasible. I'd say that doing a sound comparison test outside and in more noisy environment would allow better distinctive comparison
Yes, I agree, windy conditions ruin sound, a VideoMicro with the Dead Cat should sound ok, or other wind baffling cover. I've seen some lavalier's that have a cover.
I'm thinking about purchasing the Osmo Pocket and I want to make sure I can capture audio properly. This video, like all your videos, is excellent, giving me exactly the options and information I was looking for!! Thank you. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos and the knowledge you provide to all of us.
That's a nice audio gear. I know Gopro 7 works with only Gopro audio adapter, but can you give a test with others? DJI audio adapter in Gopro, DJI Osmo Pocket with 3rd party adapters (USB C to 3.5 mm) and so on.
Of all the reviewers for the Osmo Pocket you provide the most informed information. I truly look forward to seeing them. They are very helpful. Thank you for your efforts.
Outstanding. You are the first one to show options that work when the dead cat gets in the way. And I 100% agree with you that most option destroys the Pocket from being a small, easy to carry, unit. I like the Lav the best.
Forget the OSMO, I learned a lot from this video on microphones, setups, and sound differences. Really great review. I now know what a TRS vs. TRRS is . Thanks! Thumbs up!
I honestly think the osmo pocket internal mic sounds the best! I always quite liked it but I find as soon as you get more than a meter away from it that's when it's starting to be bad. I think the other mics will do better once you move a bit further away or move to a windier location.
Helpful video. Thank you. Helpful to know about audio options, but in my opinion if you've gotta add a phone and an external mic to the Osmo Pocket, there's just no point to the Osmo Pocket. The way I see it is that the ONLY reason to use this thing is because it's small and light. If it ceases to be small and light, then there are MUCH better options for the larger size. I think Osmo Pocket is awesome, but if I'm not happy with the built in quality, I just wouldn't use it and opt for something larger.
I understand that the Rode Video mics require 3v power from the camera. At least mine do. Does the Osmo Pocket put out the 3v needed to power them? I could not find any details from DJI on that.
Thank you for the video. I had no idea that there were different types of audio plugs. I wasted hours recording videos before I finally checked them and realized there was no sound. Your video helped me solve the problem. Many thanks.
Thank you for going through this demonstration and the pros/cons. Next time you do an audio test, can you do it without facing into a corner? That "small room" effect was detrimental to the audio quality examples.
i see you mount a LED panel to the top shoe of this phone holder. Not sure if you know this, but would you think the "GOPRO light mod" accessory fit into that shoe? I would assume the lock is a standard type that would fit every cold shoe slot, but not 100% here..
Thank you so much for showing that its really not worth the time and money or bulk to add a microphone to the Pocket, you always have the best videos for what is going on in todays gadgets
Your content about Dji Osmo pocket vlogging accessories so helpful to me. Now I know what I need to buy on amazon. Thank you so much. More vlogs up pls. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thanks for yet another awesome comparison video. Must say, the inbuilt mic of the Osmo Pocket is indeed very good and should suffice for most indoor work.
Sorry, I'm a bit late to this party ... I don't care much for the DJI 3.5mm adaptor coming straight out the bottom of the OP. Is there an angled adaptor that can do the same job? Thanks!
Brilliant demonstration of the microphones I intend to use when my adapter arrives. Thank you very much. Ive shared it to my social media and will link to it in my videos when I get my adapter.
Nice test, thanks. As you said in the beginning of the video, between the internal and external microphones is not obvious, but as you can plug a compact wireless system to this jack, some extra applications can be imagined :) What about the wireless kit ? Can you plug the audio adapter into it ? I think you can’t send audio to its USB port (this would be bulky anyway) but every option has to be tested :)
The term TRS goes back to the dark ages of analog telephony when corded "switchboards" were used to bridge connections from incoming calls to whatever number was requested. The term "tip" refers to the bulb-shaped tip of the connector. Beyond that was the mi Theddle section, called "ring" probably where the ring current was passed to activate the bell in old-style analog telephone sets. The bottom section was called "signal," because when the cord connector was fully inserted, there was a "signal" or the call went through. The definitions and illustrations were contained in a two-ring binder called the MSH book which contained handy diagrams for voice connections used in Central Offices or by field Technicians on Customer Premises. The Bell System used to classify this as proprietary knowledge. You had to as part of an employment agreement, promise never to divulge company proprietary information. To do so was an "SR" violation (Standard Regulations) which could get you fired. It is amazing the memories of random words and images bring out of mental storage
I've been looking for a work-around for my Osmo Pocket's faulty audio. Its been developing intermittent crackles and loud hiss, and even no audio at all. I'll eventually send it back to DJI for a possible fix, but I think getting an external mic will work for the time being since I'm on the road and overseas. Now if I can only get the DJI audio adapter from a local store here in Queensland, Australia
Hello got my audio connecter just a quick question using the lapel mic do you still pick up the sounds around you like wailing down the street or more or less just what you have to say into it silly question I know stay safe love your reports see ya
Can you use the mic adapter while also having the wireless module attached? I'd like to use my external mic but I need the pocket to be connected to my phone wirelessly. Dont suppose you have tried?
Thanks for posting because I was considering getting a mic but after listening and as you rightly say the difference just isn't enough in terms of quality for me to be messing around making the Oslo into something that could easily look a little silly. I do agree that the mic on the Oslo is sufficient. Great vid.
Great and informal video 👍 I'm getting an Osmo Pocket camera which will replace my Feiyu Pocket 2 camera with bad audio quality with the built-in mic and wireless mic.
Thank you for this great information! I've come to enjoy your videos. You are thorough and get right to the point. I've never heard a succinct definition of TRS vs. TRRS so thank you.
Hi .. i have the pocket 2 with the sennheiser mke 200 .. alot of Times it does not connect from itself .. i have to pull out the Jack and reconeckt .. is this a Well known problem with the pocket ?
Should maybe be noted that TRS is for stereo (2 channel) use - you'll find that on headphones (for the left and right audio channels) and on mics, so they record on both channels. The TRRS is a headset connection - 2 for the audio out (left and right speakers) and only one for the mic. If you ever record anything and only hear sound on the left channel, you don't have a stereo connection. ;)
I thought the clip-on brought the sound closer and fuller the best. The Rode video mic had good sound, but seemed a bit distant. I wanted the short little mic to work best. Its so convenient. But it didn't make much difference. Maybe a different brand or quality of that type would work better? Thanks for the helpful video!
I was considering on getting a osmo pocket, but I want to know can you attach a mic watching your video answered all of that. thank you for showing this.
Glad they are finally shipping this accessory. The Pocket is a nice camera, but videos really should have nicer sound. I'll be mounting a video Micro more likely or keeping a lav in the bag.
Not only DJI charges you a premium for what is a cheap piece of plastic and makes it impossible to use a third party equivalent adapter but, at least outside of the USA this item is impossible to find. I even managed to buy it from a local reseller, I am in the UK, to be told the day before delivery (a good three weeks after I ordered it) that it was out of stock and would not be back in stock for another month at least. Furthermore, two-three days later, I received a stock reminder from DJI (as I had registered with their service before finding out that a UK reseller had one in stock) that the item was back in stock. Nevertheless, when I tried to buy it from their store (I received the reminder at 11.30pm and I saw the email only two hours later when I tried to buy it from their online store) I could not buy it and customer service told me that it was out of stock and tried to convince me to buy it from an American resellers for close to double its price (plus possible import tax by UK customs).
Good video. Bad design by DJI though. Thats gunna break a usb port for sure at some point. Would of like to seen a outside test of those mic's too see how well they do in an environment with other noises around.
Any suggestions for a microphone that works with the DJI osmo from a distance? Most of these microphones in your video work for up to three feet or 1 meter away. I am needing something at maximum of up to 10 feet. Thanks!
Thank you for this informative and easily understood video. I love my dji osmo pocket but not so much the sound outside when hiking/camping. I have a few different mics but none seemed to work.......because they are all TRRS and Not TRS! Thank You!!!! An adaptor is the cheapest option at the moment 😁😁😁😁
Hello I have a Hero 7 Black. How do you make the record button turn on the go Pro and start recording? The record button only works when the camera is powered on
Thank you for making this video. It's probably the best and most balanced mic comparison video for the DJI Osmo pocket review I've seen. Personally, I think the charm and benefit of the DJI Osmo Pocket is it's portability and ease of use. The on-board mic isn't very suited for outdoor conditions especially on windy days but knowing that ahead of time and taking steps such as using a deadcat on the Osmo can cut down SOME wind noise. I honestly didn't hear a huge difference in the various mics shown here. Thank you Air Photography for helping me save some $$$. Best wishes from Ireland.
When testing the VideoMicro with the adapter, did you have to increase the recorded level of the audio in post production? I found sound level was much lower with the VideoMicro than the built in mic. Thanks
Ok so it is not just me. I'm having the exact same issue. I have to use the the audio boost/level (whatever it is called in english) in the osmo pocket settings on high and also increase it in post.
I remember the original Osmo having a setting in the menu where you could adjust the microphone levels. Does the Pocket have anything like that? Also I am guessing there is no way to monitor with headphones the audio you are recording either huh?
I am trying everything... it is stressing me out because I have no ideia what I am doing wrong. I have many different little mics to try, even a normal trs lapel mic, but nothing. My initial intention was to use my new mini rode boom mic connected to the osmopocket through the adapter, by it is TRRS and I am trying to find everyway I can to convert the TRRS male plug into a TRS male plug, but I don't know why not a single way is working
wish they would relase the mic shortly can hardly wait if you spot the USB-C adaptr can you let me know been looking everywhere still can not find lost mine and the blank one stay safe see ya and thanks
So, the Rode VideoMicro comes with a TRS to TRRS and you have to buy a separate TRS to TRS. I see a Rode brand for $21... or a knock off for $8 with the Rode red color.
How far were you from the Pocket on the test? How far were you from the Rode Video Mic to your mouth? Audio is going to sound great if you are extremely close to mic, but how about testing this from 2ft away on each mic (internal, video micro) and then the lavalier..
8:05 at this point the dji osmo will charge the phone and you will remain without any power left. i have to constantly charge it with an external battery.
On my good headphones I could tell a slight difference. But I wanted to hear the comparisons in different situations, like from 10 feet away, from 20 feet, outside, in a echoing room.. etc.
It doesn't help reception when he talks between the tests on a different mic. He should have just showed a picture or put up words for what microphone he was testing next.
hey great video man! was just waiting the whole video to see you do some shots outside, as to test some of the mics vs the wind. I have some coastal footage at my channel that unfortunately have a lot of wind noise, I can reduce it with software but it's still heavy so I want to check out a good mic for the Osmo Pocket I also noticed that you can plug in the mic at the same spot where I put my powerbank, so I cannot do filming sessions over 1.5h because of the same port usage.....
question: i have a small case that has a USB C adaptor that holds my osmo pocket and creates 2 lateral USB entries. Would I be able to connect an external battery in one of the USB C entries and the Mic in the other side ? both should tech interact with the OSMO at the same time
Great video. However I still find the audio to be "artificial". Not sure I'm sold on the super expensive audio adapter. I think the preamps are not good on the osmo pocket to begin with. I think in my opinion external recording might be a better option but of course that defeats the purpose of having the osmo pocket to begin with.
I also own a DJI Osmo Pocket and for being an internal microphone it's pretty good, but when you start recording it in a more windy and noisy background, you'll find that DJI Osmo Pocket's internal mic really isn't feasible. Yes, I agree, windy conditions ruin sound, a VideoMicro with the Dead Cat should sound ok, or other wind baffling cover. I've seen some lavalier's that have a cover.
Does anyone know if this’ll work with a splitter cable? To charge and have audio at the same time.. has anyone tried this?
Fast forward to 2022 and DJI already came up with their own wireless audio system. Dope!
Indeed I’m really looking forward to testing it out
And now we have the DJI Mic. How awesome is that?!
Have you tested that mic with the pocket?
you're the first video that actually said what the TRS stands for. I learned something lol
Very pleased that the DJI Mic is here. Will no longer need that Rode mic.
Thank you for explaining the TRS vs TRRS. I had to figure that out on my own after a lot of frustration.
after 20 minutes of playing, I turned to you for the answer, and as always you deliverd
That's a nice audio gear. I know Gopro 7 works with only Gopro audio adapter, but can you give a test with others?
DJI audio adapter in Gopro, DJI Osmo Pocket with 3rd party adapters (USB C to 3.5 mm) and so on.
Can you share with us what cam and mic did u use for making this video?
Of all the reviewers for the Osmo Pocket you provide the most informed information. I truly look forward to seeing them. They are very helpful. Thank you for your efforts.
Outstanding. You are the first one to show options that work when the dead cat gets in the way. And I 100% agree with you that most option destroys the Pocket from being a small, easy to carry, unit. I like the Lav the best.
The adapter it's an accident waiting to happen to damage the USB port as soon as you bump into something.
Excellent vid. Hope you do one for wireless mics for the Osmo Pocket.
Forget the OSMO, I learned a lot from this video on microphones, setups, and sound differences. Really great review. I now know what a TRS vs. TRRS is . Thanks! Thumbs up!

Perfect! Just what I was looking for, I'm guessing this would work with a wireless set up, attaching the receiver to the pocket?

Thanks for information about TRS and TRRS - I was about to send back my adapter because it is not working....
great video - quick suggestion - please do the audio back to back so its easier to hear differences (not interrupted by narration)
I agree
Any idea of the Saramonic SmartMic+ UC works with the Osmo Pocket? It comes with a USB type-c connector.
Your content about Dji Osmo pocket vlogging accessories so helpful to me. Now I know what I need to buy on amazon. Thank you so much. More vlogs up pls. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Such a great video. Can't wait to get my new DJI Osmo pocket.
Think of buying the Osmo Pocket but was wondering about an external mic. So really helpful video! Thanks.
Yes, Going with the bottom mount is exactly what I did with the Rode.
Thanks for this, I will be getting VideoMicro with the extension. I will be recording videos of our covers during concerts
Can I use Blue Yeti with Osmo Pocket? What do I need to buy? Yeti has a 3.5mm port. Do I need a TSR to TSR just as you do with DSLR camera?
Thanks for yet another awesome comparison video. Must say, the inbuilt mic of the Osmo Pocket is indeed very good and should suffice for most indoor work.
Nice, but one question, how do you mount the DJI on a tripod with the adapter?
Sorry, I'm a bit late to this party ... I don't care much for the DJI 3.5mm adaptor coming straight out the bottom of the OP. Is there an angled adaptor that can do the same job? Thanks!
Nice video! I have a question, can you show a video on how to download a video clip from osmo to a computer to be edited? Thanks.
Brilliant demonstration of the microphones I intend to use when my adapter arrives. Thank you very much. Ive shared it to my social media and will link to it in my videos when I get my adapter.

I asked DJI that question direct, and they told me no audio pass through [at the moment]. Can only charge.
Can you have a tripod connector and the mic accessory at the same time? Also is it possible to have two mics?

The inbuilt microphone in osmo pocket isn't bad but you'll notice the difference in a windy environment 😁
Didn’t realise this was a review of the OSMO channel! @@onelivingsoul2962
Please tell name of handle you used?
handle name please. is it telescopic?
Great and informal video 👍 I'm getting an Osmo Pocket camera which will replace my Feiyu Pocket 2 camera with bad audio quality with the built-in mic and wireless mic.
Hi friend.
Do you know boya by-dm100. This microphone has a usb c interface.
Is it works with Osmo Pocket?
Thanks
Thank you for this great information! I've come to enjoy your videos. You are thorough and get right to the point. I've never heard a succinct definition of TRS vs. TRRS so thank you.
Very helpful review of microphones for the Osmo Pocket! Thanks bro! :)

Good luck finding one. They are never in stock
Can you connect it to a DJI wireless mic? in reference to the DJI Pocket 2 Gimbal.
dji osmo pocket.,must be grab for vlogging.,nice information👍🏻
Glad they are finally shipping this accessory. The Pocket is a nice camera, but videos really should have nicer sound. I'll be mounting a video Micro more likely or keeping a lav in the bag.
Not only DJI charges you a premium for what is a cheap piece of plastic and makes it impossible to use a third party equivalent adapter but, at least outside of the USA this item is impossible to find. I even managed to buy it from a local reseller, I am in the UK, to be told the day before delivery (a good three weeks after I ordered it) that it was out of stock and would not be back in stock for another month at least. Good video. How about trying the Rode VideoMic Me with the Osmo?
Thanks but you should test it in a noisy place. I think it will make the difference...
Is there a way to charge and use an external mic as the same time on the DJI2?
Great video. Thank you
Good video. Bad design by DJI though. Thats gunna break a usb port for sure at some point. Would of like to seen a outside test of those mic's too see how well they do in an environment with other noises around.
I have seen where guys use deity lapel mic which is trrs
I think the adapter is smart enough to make it work without 4-3 ring adapter
Any suggestions for a microphone that works with the DJI osmo from a distance? Most of these microphones in your video work for up to three feet or 1 meter away. I am needing something at maximum of up to 10 feet. Thanks!
Pleassssssssssssseeeeeeeeee try that audio adapter with the GoPros... possibility of ditching that block
The record button only works when the camera is powered on
Can you charge the pocket while the adaptor is connected?
Do you have any information about connecting a wireless microphone to the Osmo pocket?
Can you use the adapter on macbook pro 2016-2018?
Is there any difference between osmo oem adapter and a regular usb c to trs cable
What Is the handle accesory to hold all the combo kit
With what mic have you recorded this vlog?
Does the mic adapter work with the wireless module?
I remember the original Osmo having a setting in the menu where you could adjust the microphone levels. Does the Pocket have anything like that? Also I am guessing there is no way to monitor with headphones the audio you are recording either huh?
Not at this time. But hoping some audio options will become available in a future firmware update
The two poles for the selfie sticks? Where can I buy them at?
How would I connect the microphone if I am using the Extension Rod and a Wireless Adapter?
And if you connect the cable from the Osmo to the phone, how do you connect the microphone?
I am trying everything... it is stressing me out because I have no ideia what I am doing wrong. I have many different little mics to try, even a normal trs lapel mic, but nothing. My initial intention was to use my new mini rode boom mic connected to the osmopocket through the adapter, by it is TRRS and I am trying to find everyway I can to convert the TRRS male plug into a TRS male plug, but I don't know why not a single way is working
Does this adapter accept line level signal coming out from zoom h6?
wish they would relase the mic shortly can hardly wait if you spot the USB-C adaptr can you let me know been looking everywhere still can not find lost mine and the blank one stay safe see ya and thanks
How are you powering the rode videomicro? It requires phantom power...
So, the Rode VideoMicro comes with a TRS to TRRS and you have to buy a separate TRS to TRS. I see a Rode brand for $21... or a knock off for $8 with the Rode red color.
I bought a wireless mic that can be connected to the osmo pocket via the usb c port but this dose not work. What would you recommend?
One thing I don't understand: if the mic is mounted on the bottom how do you put the camera on a tripod or stand?
How far were you from the Pocket on the test? How far were you from the Rode Video Mic to your mouth? Audio is going to sound great if you are extremely close to mic, but how about testing this from 2ft away on each mic (internal, video micro) and then the lavalier..
Can you please tell me the name of small audio microphone , that I purches from Amazon .
Hello, all the links to the microphone are used can be found in the description of this video
8:05 at this point the dji osmo will charge the phone and you will remain without any power left. i have to constantly charge it with an external battery.
Not sure you are getting mic thew the adapter it all sounds exactly the same. Do the tap test
Right. They all sounded exactly the same to my ear
THEY ALL SOUND THE SAME FOR REAL LOL
On my good headphones I could tell a slight difference. But I wanted to hear the comparisons in different situations, like from 10 feet away, from 20 feet, outside, in a echoing room.. etc.
It doesn't help reception when he talks between the tests on a different mic. He should have just showed a picture or put up words for what microphone he was testing next.
Will generic type c to 3.5 mm work ? Please answer.
hey great video man!
was just waiting the whole video to see you do some shots outside, as to test some of the mics vs the wind.
I have some coastal footage at my channel that unfortunately have a lot of wind noise, I can reduce it with software but it's still heavy so I want to check out a good mic for the Osmo Pocket
I also noticed that you can plug in the mic at the same spot where I put my powerbank, so I cannot do filming sessions over 1.5h because of the same port usage.....
Thank you

can you hook up two osmo pocket mics to one osmo pocket?
question: i have a small case that has a USB C adaptor that holds my osmo pocket and creates 2 lateral USB entries. Would I be able to connect an external battery in one of the USB C entries and the Mic in the other side ? both should tech interact with the OSMO at the same time
Can you get a different audio adapter that isn't made by Dji?
Unfortunately no third-party adapters will not work it’s a proprietary part
Great video. However I still find the audio to be "artificial". Not sure I'm sold on the super expensive audio adapter. I think the preamps are not good on the osmo pocket to begin with. I think in my opinion external recording might be a better option but of course that defeats the purpose of having the osmo pocket to begin with.
