They're pretty fussy initially, but once dialed in, they're dead reliable. Compared to most, they're the most despised carburetors Briggs make mainly due to not understanding them. Cheers my Good Friend! Sean~
I just bought a chinese carb and the throttle was set up just like yours. I actually had to change it to the "incorrect" orientation you showed so the governor on my generator worked properly as it is up normaly in a WOT position untill the generator stars and the the governor pulls down on the linkage to close it and regulate the speed. simple 3min job to change the throttle orientation. Kept the old carb to rebuild at a later date.
Zippo. You sent me the Briggs tech bulletin on this Teflon o-ring solution to the carb leaking. I did not instal the part because I could live with the (minor) carb dripping. But your video shows how to correct the drip if it’s serious enough. Good video!
Had to buy a new carburetor for my 25-year-old Stihl weedeater this week you know where it came from so far it,s runs keep my fingers crossed. Have a great week.
The Chinesium carbs are always hit and miss. I'm glad you got a good one my Friend! Sixtyfiveford did a video on the aftermarket chinesium carbs a while back that sums up the majority of results. Cheers my Friend! Zip~
Brother Joe. It's MY pleasure entirely to see you're still enjoying the videos. Much love to you, the son and the Mrs.!!! Cheers Brother! Love ya! Zip~
Excellent video once again. Such a naughty little carburetor. Patience on that float. I think mine would have been air mailed across the room. Or hammered the crap out of something and then hurt myself. I am trying to learn calmness from you and Sir Bruce. Thanks again for the video's.
This was the first time I used the tip. It was shared with me a couple years ago by a subscriber and before that, I was totally unaware of this tech bulletin put out by Briggs. Lots of smart cookies out there! Cheers Bill! Zip~
Another great video Zippo very informative and the Teflon washer for the emulsion tube looks like it can save on a lot of head scratching down the road as well. Lol Thnxs for the part # as well.
I see you struggling with the dirty brass, what I do, so I don't face that issue, I use my dremel set on low speed, with a brass wire wheel, and I clean all the brass, so everything slides super smooth.... Great job man.
I absolutely loved rebuilding mine without any new parts or rebuild kit and no experience with this style of carb one bitter cold 4am morning in the dark and in the bed of my truck with hardly any space to move around and only my phone light and a flathead screwdriver and some shellac because my old Welder decided it wanted to tease and only turn on for about 10 seconds and then starve itself off, thankfully I had another Welder in the exact same model I had gotten ripped off with and cannibalised what little I could since it was in worse shape lol and I didn't know about the emulsion tube and messed it up a bit, now that I see yours I think mine is either different or missing parts. Which is bad cause I depend entirely on this welder
Whatever you do, do NOT Buy one of those cheap Chinesium knock off replacement carbs! You'll instantly regret it. There were a couple different variations of basically the same carburetor. I can only imagine yours takes 4 screws to hold the bowl to the carb upper. 9hp and below had this 3 screw carb and 10hp and up had the 4 screw. Email me at the email address in the Description with your engine model, type and code and I'll send you a parts manual. Zip~
I recently bought a 1972 Sears Suburban 15 with that same engine I think. The tractor is in good shape and the only thing I need is the cover that goes over the air filter. I am only seeing them on eBay so far.
Zippo. Awesome again thanks. Can you please do a video on L10 or L112 loader. Maintenance, changing hydraulic fluid, how it works tutorial for newbies.
I would if I could Ace. I would need one here in order to do a video on it. When or if one presents itself I will definitely do a once over on it. But, if you email me I can send you a manual. Zip~
Zippo: Did you know that Briggs and Stratton went bankrupt this week. Sad for such a great old company. Hope they can reorganize and keep going. Thanks for the video.
Bob, I'll be shooting a video on the subject this week. Briggs & Stratton isn't going anywhere. They're only restructuring a very small part of their vast holdings and Engine manufacturing will NOT be effected what so ever. But stay tuned and I'll shed light on the subject. Cheers my Friend! Zip~
Man you forgot the choke lol done it myself. I even tried starting an engine the other day no start. Took the carb off to clean it only to find out half way through I had the fuel turned off lol
I have always tested the main jet and adjusted at WOT. Also,I always start 1 1/2 out on the main, but only 1/2 out on the idle. Almost always ballpark right. God bless.
The idle wound up being about 3/4, so your initial settings fit in line with this idle circuit. The Main wound up being about the same in this case. Each engine is always different! But I am inclined to agree with you on the initial idle setting for the most part. Cheers and thanks for the tip Matthew! Cheers! Zip~
The front brace is the tank. There is a plug on top to fill the hydraulic fluid. Use Dextron GM Transmission Fluid to top it off. The reservoir holds a total of 2 quarts.
Had those emulsion tubes in few of those downdraft carbs , either the slot so buggered or locked in there so tight by bad threads , that there twasant anyyyyyyy way it was comming out lol
That's pretty common on engines that have sat for a long time. A good soaking in PB Blaster or Evaporust can help matters if the slot isn't all buggered up. I've drilled the emulsion tubes out before, but you've got to be super careful to not hit the threads. Cheers! Zip~
Hey Zippo, I have a 1959 simplicity VC and I'm looking for a manual for the 20" mower and the snowblower. Is there anything you can do to help me? Thank you for your time!!! Great channel, love it!!!!
It is great for removing oxidation for sure Revo. I have used it a number of times with surprising results. Definitely a great product to keep on hand. Cheers! Zip~
Hey Zippo I just acquired this Landlord 10hp. Someone has rip off the airbreath from carb.so I needing a complete carb with airbreather. Might you know a source of replacing this. Thankyou in advance.
So you're saying there's a possibility I'm saving my original carburetor on my SS15. Were you able to get that jet out or did you have to drill it? cuz my carburetor jet is Frozen in there I had let it boiled in hot water and all types of solutions. Around the head offthe jet appears to be fully cleaned out and all the jet holes are operating just fine, the man bummer on my carburetor is where you hook the float to those two little teeth brackets are totally broke off. Do you think it's junk nowwell because you'd have to JB weld something to hold the float on
Hello zippo,, i just want to ask about my carburetor, the hole where the main jet is being inserted is stripped, what can i do to fix this stripped thread,, pls..reply
Even I have trouble in this area with my specialty taps in hand. Often, if it's the only carburetor within 100 miles, I suggest very carefully drilling the main emulsion tube (Jet) out, staying away from the threads, then giving the carburetor a thorough bath in Evaporust for a good 24 hours to remove any oxidation, then finding the 5/16 32 specialty tap and chasing the threads as well as polishing the mating surface at the base of the emulsion tube hole in the carburetor. These carb bodies are made of pot metal and are very soft. So care has to be taken. Good Luck! Zip~
