Love this. I bought a new Suzuki GS750 in black, back in 1979, one of the first things I did was remove the two main engine covers and polish them up on a bench grinder buffing wheel. They looked fantastic, wish I still owned that bike. Memories 😁.

Good job. Just a tip or two....1) When wet sanding, use a drop of dish soap on the sandpaper. It keeps the paper cleaner and helps the abrasive action. 2) Start w/ P400 grit like you did, then follow up w/P600, then w/P800 and maybe P1000. This will help cut down on the polishing process times. If that part is cast aluminum (some are), keep wax on it, or clear coat it, or it will oxidize and turn gray again. Not criticizing...just something to think about.

What a spectacular difference you made, terrific work there!
Whilst you have the cover off the engine, it would be a good opportunity to replace the original kickstart shaft oil seal, and as the engine is completely stripped, to replace the gear change shaft oil seal too.
To complete the job, the output shaft oil seal should also be replaced, that way, after rebuilding, you should have an oil tight engine!

      ThrillerKillerX - Thanks man.
It gets a little hazy but some Mother’s aluminum polish brings it right back. The frame stays really nice but the swingarm seems to haze quicker. Not sure must be a different aluminum. It took probably 10 + hours to do originally but now it only needs touch up once a year for an hour or so.
