5th Gen 2019 Ram 1500 Shark Fin Roof Antenna Leak Fix
Переглядів 23 тис.2 роки тому
Finding your back seats soaking wet? There's a good chance it's your sharkfin antenna seal. This very raw barely edited video is here to show you how to safely drop the headliner to access the antenna bolt. I couldn't find these instructions anywhere on the internet so I figured I'd do it.
A Hundred Years of Great Duck
Переглядів 4875 років тому
The lighthouse at Great Duck Island turned 100 and we're off to give her a birthday gift. This is also the inaugural trip for Firefly, the 1982 33' Mirage sloop. Along the way we stop by the Burnt Harbour shipwreck, get nailed by a storm with a tornado watch, run into autopilot issues, run into diesel issues, find a rainbow, enjoy a campfire, you know, the usual stuff. Shot on Lake Huron and he...
Bruce Bay Marina Haulout 2018
Переглядів 856 років тому
Each year all the sailboat owners get together and hire a crane to haul out for the winter. Here's a time lapse of the event, until of course SV Firefly started blocking the view. It was a bit scary but was well run by a very knowledgeable guy at the marina, thanks Dean!
First Time Un-Stepping a Mast With a Gin Pole
Переглядів 8086 років тому
This is a time lapse of the first time we un-stepped Firefly's mast, and also our first time using the local Gin Pole. It was only slightly scary but went off without a hitch. Next up is crane out Sept 28th.

Great Duck Island: The Return
Переглядів 1,2 тис.8 років тому
We return to Great Duck Island on our 25ft Tanzer sailboat. This time we explore the island and lighthouse ghost town. A new record was set getting there, last year it took 2 days to make it, this year we arrived from Bruce Mines to Desert Point in 13 hours! Day sail to Thessalon Island from Bruce Bay
Переглядів 1778 років тому
This was more of a test for the new GoPro video editing software. We put together a few clips from a day sail last weekend with a friend. So far the GoPro software is good considering it's free with the camera but leaves something to be desired with text titles.
The Duck Islands

The first "long distance" voyage on SV Breezy in 2015. 149nm trip to Great Duck Island to do some shipwreck diving. That was one way to learn how to sail!

    I would have simply applied a coat of clear Silicone around the base of the shark fin style antenna.

    • @svfirefly7424
      @svfirefly7424 8 місяців тому

      That may work in some areas but not ideal on the roof. The issue is the antenna base is not flexible (hard plastic) but the roof metal is. So when snow loads are on it or big temperature changes occur there will be movement there and would separate an external silicone seal. It would most likely also look worse. But hey up to you, this is just my suggestion.

    My back widow was leaking, not the antenna or the break light. $1800 RF Hub module fix from ram design flaws. I fixed the leak as they wanted another $1200 to replace rear window frame which they farmout to safelite. Problem is, they replace with same failed product. I did a video on my fix with permatex windshield even flow silicone.

    Why not just clear rtv around the outside of the shark fin? Would look nice and clean and you wouldn’t have to go thru all this.

  • @marcusaurelius1477
    @marcusaurelius1477 Рік тому

    Thanks for the info ! Could you also put a small bead of clear caulking around the shark fin ?

    • @svfirefly7424
      @svfirefly7424 Рік тому

      You could try that but the metal roof and black plastic of the fin expand and contract at much different rates in hot and cold and I imagine it would break the seal on the outside.

      99.9999% of the time it’s the third brake light that’s leaking because of the crappy factory seal that flattens out and is no good after a year or 2.

    Will butyl tape permanently seal it down? Or would I be able to get it back off latter if need be?

    • @svfirefly7424
      @svfirefly7424 Рік тому

      Butyl stays "gummy" just about forever so I'm sure it would be easily removed. I've removed boat parts that were assembled with butyl well over 40 years prior and they were able to be disassembled without issue.

    You would think they would have a cover in the headliner to get to the antenna screws.

    • @dirtrider88
      @dirtrider88 4 місяці тому

      that would be ugly. rams are nothing but the finest automobiles made. impeccable attention to detail and fit and finish. but seriously, with as many problems as i have had with the truck its it put together with surprising thought, its still my favorite truck i have ever owned and i have only had one non truck in my life.

  • @siege1979

    Thanks for the walkthru it was very helpful. A Tip I came across that may help you if you have to go in again or anyone else that needs to fix this, once the headliner is dropped if you have the rear window that opens reconnect the battery andopen it. Do the antenna removal/replacent from the bed thru the window. By doing this I also did not have to remove the light fixture.

      Xeno Gaius sure does, although I don't know if this was stock or if someone added it later. I can take pictures if you need. Basically under the cushion it's sitting on a sheet of plywood with the teak trim screwed into it for show. You pull that out like a big drawer and the back cushion falls down flat to become part of the mattress and then there are 2 wooden legs that plug in to the bottom to support it.
