Told you that you would like this one, going back to your first Nightwish reaction. A few things: That's Floor singing at the end. Note the richness and power of her contralto range considering that she is a soprano. Ditch the silly GIFs, you don't need them. They're a distraction. Your expertise is sufficient. Silly GIFs are used by reactors who have nothing to say. "Laudato Si" is the opening words from a prayer by St Francis of Assis and also from an encyclical by Pope Francis. The original prayer by St. Francis is very much a prayer for the natural world. There is some discussion as to whether or not the Italian or the Latin pronunciation is to be used here, so take it as is. Just know that the choice would be deliberate. Of course, the Latin pronunciation is a dodgy thing as there are no native Latin speakers around today to correct us.
Let's say that MaggieRenee reacts her way, unlike so many others. The gifs do distract, but we can always play the original if we want to listen undistracted.. Or? The ads.. They are distracting.. But we cope with it..

The Shakespeare quote is on the urn which was left on the moon. Floor did several takes of the ending but Tuomas and Floor concluded something just wasn't right. Back in her home studio with the choir added it just clicked and they recorded it again with this amazing result.
What is "Laudato Si"? The Canticle of the Creatures, written by St. Francis of Assisi. This hymn, was written during the transition period in the development of the Italian language from Latin, and is the earliest known vernacular literature written in the Umbrian dialect of Italian. There are three sections to the Canticle: A praise to God for His creations such as "Brother Sun", "Sister Moon", "Brother Wind", "Sister Water" This section of the Canticle was written at the end of St. Francis's life (1224) as he was recovering from an illness with St. Claire and the Poor Sisters in San Damiano. At this point in his life, St. Francis was almost completely blind, and yet through his suffering, he composed this song of praise of God for all the wonders of creation. A praise for those who forgive for the love of God and who endure trials in peace. The second part of the Canticle was composed when Francis reconciled the bishop and the podestá (Chief Magistrate) of Assisi. He sent his friars to sing the first part of the canticle in front of them which led to their reconciliation. A praise for "Sister Bodily Death", and to those "whom death will find in Your most holy will"

“Laudato si” is from a poem by Saint Francis of Assisi: “LAUDATO SI’, mi’ Signore” - “Praise be to you, my Lord”. It is not Classical Latin but vulgar latin on it’s way to become the Italian language. Ad Astra is Classical Latin, an adhortation: to the stars!
"Shoemaker" has become a favorite song of NASA's scientific community. Tuomas has a deep inclination towards science and this is reflected in many of his plays. This ensured the entry of Nightwish into the history books of science, several discoveries in the field being named after them. These new discoveries include: Alpenglow Rockshelter: Archaeological site named after Nightwish Song. Tanidromites Nightwishorun: New Crab species. Sciophila Holopaineni: New species of Mosquito found in Finland. Ophiomitrella Floorae: New species of Cretaceous brittle star named after Floor Jansen. Tmesisternus floorjansenae: new species of beetle named after Floor. And Yes, Live is something else 😉. Just saying !!!!! NWSU.

This song was floors greatest challenge. It was also a challenge for the guitarist Empu. The chops follow the snare drum and he had to be right on it. Nightwish went far and beyond with this album. The talent in this band is no secret. This song in my opinion is one of the most deeply felt and challenging songs they have ever done. I am a guitarist of over 40 yrs and can say that the work done here is stunning! I can riff but this was difficult to learn and play along with. It is a masterpiece that the band should be very proud of.

I seriously wonder why that would be interesting. Would it be worse if that last part isn't typical operatic, or classic? Would it make the song better if it is? I'm not asking because I want to be rude, or to make a bold statement, but in my opinion there are too many experts telling us how things are 'supposed to be'. And there's no such thing. The only thing that matters is "how does the song and how do the vocals make you feel?" I have a musical background myself (I studied jazz guitar at the conservatory of music). On a personal level the jazz guys could get along really well with the classical guys, but we were worlds apart when it came to playing music. Now that's jazz and classical. But every genre of music needs a different approach to certain things. And even then it's not written in stone. So...., I was just wondering. 😊
@@mariodriessen9740 It obviously matters to Ms. Piia Lindqvist. It may also matter to many other fans. Such as myself. If you are not interested of it, please cease and desist commneting on "irrelevant things".
Sir shoemaker was the founding father of any known proper modern planetary science we now know of. This piece is an ode to his life's work and heritage 🙂
I knew this would blow you away! The place where Eugene's urn is buried by impact is very close to the lunar south pole, in the bottom of the crater which bears his name. It is deep enough to be in eternal shade from the sun, yet the earth moves up and down on the horizon, hence "in eternal earthrise". The passage from Romeo and Juliet was inscribed on the brass-foil plaque on the urn, along with his name, dates, and images of the Hale=Bop comet (the last he viewed with his wife and which was still visible to the naked eye at the time of his death) and the Berringer crater - the subject of his doctoral thesis. He was to have been the first civilian to set foot on the moon but was diagnosed with Addison's disease during his astronaut training, which he still completed to avoid disrupting the team he was training with. He went on to train another group despite knowing that he would never be able to go himself, which he described as the greatest disappointment of his life. He is the only person to be buried on any celestial body other than the earth. The solo male voice, by the way, is Troy. After many attempts in the studio, and despite the rest of the band being satisfied, Floor still felt she could do better. Relaxing at home she decided to try and was finally satisfied. She sent the recording from her home studio to Tuomas and that session is what was used in the final mix. They originally said they would not be including it in any setlist for live shows, but popular demand meant that we heard it in the virtual live show. The language at the end is actually ancient Italian, rather than Latin. It is a bit tough finding any true native speakers of either to guide pronunciation though.

"Imagine hearing this live" - actually Floor sings it live. And it's great! This song is a real challenge and I heard her doing it on a virtual show - in the verses she wasn't always perfect at pitch (the verses are insane, this quick jumping notes), but she was very close to perfection. :-) And the last operatic part was as good as in a studio. I cannot wait to see her live, I have my ticket to their concert in Poland. :-)

Hallo Maggie Renee I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja ) Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (D3 to F6). [6] Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Sending greetings to the Netherlands. Thank you for your comment and info. Hope to see you here www.twitch.tv/MaggieReneeMusic later today for fun LIVE reactions? 😊

@@maggiereneemusic Hello. Since you've already reacted to multiple Nightwish songs, would you like to try Epica? Both bands are top dogs in the symphonic metal sub-genre. Epica's lead female soprano is Simone Simons and her voice is wonderful. For a bit more classical sound I would suggest their orchestral (non-metal) ballad "Trois Vierges" with lyrics. " I love pretending to know the song and mouthing the lyrics even though I'm just reading them from the video LOL " I can asure that you're not the first one doing it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They performed this in a livestream virtual concert (if you search for the Islander's Arms you should find it) some months ago. It was beautiful! Floor just kills it. Oh, BTW - I don't know how much Latin Floor knows (I mean, she's Dutch and is fluent in both English and Swedish), but I think I heard the backing choir pronouncing a plosive "t" in "laudate". And, if memory serves, Nightwish collaborate with the London Symphony Chorus, so if Floor's pronunciation is wrong, she's at least in good company.
Floor sang the Shoemaker song live already 2 times, the second time she sang in a real concert (live @ Club Teatria, Oulu 28.7.2021) and it was divine, in this concert the last 2 notes of Floor pierced the heavens.
When Floor sings high, the choir is almost inaudible, the last high notes are Floor voice, when you listen live it becomes clear, Floor voice sounds like a whole choir.
With all the talk about the difficulty of the composition of the song as a whole, Floor herself wasn't even sure if they were going to be able to perform the song live. They performed it at the Islander's Arms virtual show. I love this song and it was "perfect" !! 😊♥️🤘🤘

Insanely difficult piece to sing as you now well know. I had years of vocal training and the first time I heard this I said she'd she'd never do it as part of a rotation on tour. Amazingly she has done it a couple times already out of the 4 or 5 shows they've done since.
The last part of the song-the operatic part is a great example of Spinto Soprano voice. Altough I am really amazed to hear a soprano singer with ability to bring extra sound down low as-well-Perfect 👍👍

@Tara B I agree with you. This is Maggie's Channel & if they want her to behave in other ways then they should go & jump. I can't believe the nerve of people, to tell Maggie not to sing over the singer she's reacting to. People love to give out advice but take none of their own!
a couple of comments here correctly (almost) name the male singer Troy, who performs it live with Floor--however, the lyric video you just listened to has 3 parts, with the male *voices* being sung by Marco AND Troy, before Marco left the band (Troy is the lower baritone, and Marco is the higher tenor, in this recording).

Ayreon is a sci-fi opera project where the composer invites top musicians, notably singers from the symphonic metal genre. Floor Jansen is among them, but also her sister Irene and Anneke van Giersbergen. Male giants are Damian Wilson and Michael Mills with his incredible vocal range.

Constructive criticism: the gifs are super distracting and subtract enjoyment from ur video. I like watching and listening to you talk about the music, that should be enough.
I agree that the "extra" gifs were almost annoying... they detracted from your reaction and all because attention was always being dragged away by some unnecessary new pop up on the screen that once recognized as "superfluous", made it rather more difficult to resume... It was like reading a really good book while being pestered by a five year old yelling "Look at me!!" In contrast, the truly informational pop ups were up far too short to actually read while trying to keep track of everything else... I, personally, prefer the older format where pop ups only occurred occasionally and were both informative, and illustrative of something that needed further presentation... also the occasional "Shooketh" or emoticon for a particularly strong moment was acceptable. We LOVE you for the way you are... don't get lost in trying to add more "decoration". Please?

This is such an amazing song! Floor just shows us time after time that she is up for every challenge that Tuomas throws at her! Now...if she starts singing the bass parts in Thomas' songs...I don't know what I would think! I sang in a traveling choral ( what Tuomas would say...I was with Edema Ruh...) Having no country to call their own, the Edema Ruh are travelers and entertainers with talents ranging far and wide, but most commonly involving storytelling, acting, and music. Oh...you need to check out the video of Edema Ruh! More of a happy go lucky song, that just makes you feel good!
The way I see it: at 07:45 the Laudato si... etc is sung by Floor indubitably. It is in classical Latin. The pronunciation you hear on Google translate is indeed in Italian, a direct descendant of Classical Latin (amongst other languages eg : French, Spanish, Romanian, Catalan and some other I do not know by heart). And indeed the "t" in Laudato is "weak" and yes dentalizing it would be perfect. I alway blame these mispronunciations on the fact that Dutch, the mother tongue of Floor, is of Germanic origin. Great reaction! Subscribed!

For me, the Laudato Si is the root for Laudatory (yes) and either way means "be praised" although the pronunciation is slightly different for each... I believe this is an artistic license thing to slightly increase the recognition factor for a worldwide audience that may be more familiar laudatory "sound" rather then specific Italian pronunciation... Hello Miss Maggie, "Shoemaker" is one of the most beautiful and powerful song of Nightwish : the end is so magical... you can try other great singers (vocals) : Therion - the live gothic in 2007, with the song "Rise of Sodom And Gomorrah" or (my favourite) Perennial Sophia (a beautiful duet). Next singer, you should listen to, because she is amazing (she's like a little fairy to me), is Miss Maria Franz, and she's deserve a video : the singer of Euzen, Heilung and Songleikr (more viking and shamanic vibes) : "Maria vocals - LIFA" - Heilung - this video is a mix of the LIFA concert in CastelFest - it was the first time they played in front of an audience together - this concert was rewarded in Europe... I really love this song : "Ulvetime" - Songleikr - translation : the wolves time, (even my husband hear the "Ahou-Ahouuuuuu" at night) or the very emotional : "Cruel all by myself " - Euzen live Castelfest Take care of you :) Greetings From Orange - France

Also, I have mixed feelings about the gif-space. It's a nice little bit of uniqueness that other channels don't have, but it can also be slightly distracting for people with ADD/ADHD like myself. At the end of the day, I think it's good to try new things and new formats, and sometimes it takes a bit to really get them to where you want them to be, and sometimes they never quite get there. It's very subjective, so the most important thing is just to try new things until you find what works for you. I think the gif-space is a great iteration of that process, and it could end up being great with a bit of tweaking.

The Shakespeare quote is on the urn which was left on the moon. Floor did several takes of the ending but Tuomas and Floor concluded something just wasn't right. Back in her home studio with the choir added it just clicked and they recorded it again with this amazing result.
Thanks for the info! 🤘
@@maggiereneemusic where you seriously asking who was singing at the end ?
@@maggiereneemusic btw does it ever occur to you to let Floor's vocals come thru instead of you trying to sing over it ?
When nightwish did the virtual Shows, Floor was singing this Song including the ending. She was perfect. It was sooooo amazing.
@@chewie2648 The show in Olou from last week was an even better rendition.
What is "Laudato Si"?
The Canticle of the Creatures, written by St. Francis of Assisi. This hymn, was written during the transition period in the development of the Italian language from Latin, and is the earliest known vernacular literature written in the Umbrian dialect of Italian.
There are three sections to the Canticle:
A praise to God for His creations such as "Brother Sun", "Sister Moon", "Brother Wind", "Sister Water"
This section of the Canticle was written at the end of St.
A praise for "Sister Bodily Death", and to those "whom death will find in Your most holy will"
Floor did this live recently in Finland on concerts and she sounded great.

“Laudato si” is from a poem by Saint Francis of Assisi:
“LAUDATO SI’, mi’ Signore” - “Praise be to you, my Lord”. It is not Classical Latin but vulgar latin on it’s way to become the Italian language.
Ad Astra is Classical Latin, an adhortation: to the stars!
Nightwish should have won an Award for that music!!!!!!
That ending just lifts your soul right out of your body. This is transcendent, folks.

Floor did this already 2 times live!, flawlessly in shows in Finland, live in Oulu and once in the virtual show.

This aged well.
The end of the video always moves me as it represents Shoemaker's final resting place looking back at the Sun and the Earthrise.
North West Passage here, This could be a operatical movie score, That whole genre should be explored by more artists, it has so much to give.
Can't wait for this. Would be interesting to hear what the opera world think of this song?
I seriously wonder why that would be interesting. Would it be worse if that last part isn't typical operatic, or classic? Would it make the song better if it is?
I'm not asking because I want to be rude, or to make a bold statement, but in my opinion there are too many experts telling us how things are 'supposed to be'. And there's no such thing. The only thing that matters is "how does the song and how do the vocals make you feel?"
I have a musical background myself (I studied jazz guitar at the conservatory of music). On a personal level the jazz guys could get along really well with the classical guys, but we were worlds apart when it came to playing music. Now that's jazz and classical. But every genre of music needs a different approach to certain things. And even then it's not written in stone.
So...., I was just wondering. 😊
@@mariodriessen9740 ????

This song is a real challenge and I heard her doing it on a virtual show - in the verses she wasn't always perfect at pitch (the verses are insane, this quick jumping notes), but she was very close to perfection. :-) And the last operatic part was as good as in a studio. Hallo Maggie Renee
I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here.
She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja )
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (D3 to F6).

Yeah, the way all the vocals, then instruments build in that final part is totally epic. Maybe the most epic ending to any song I have heard.
" I love pretending to know the song and mouthing the lyrics even though I'm just reading them from the video LOL "
I can asure that you're not the first one doing it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They performed this in a livestream virtual concert (if you search for the Islander's Arms you should find it) some months ago.

Really, are you asking who is singing?? Really?? Come on...
With all the talk about the difficulty of the composition of the song as a whole, Floor herself wasn't even sure if they were going to be able to perform the song live.

Insanely difficult piece to sing as you now well know. I had years of vocal training and the first time I heard this I said she'd she'd never do it as part of a rotation on tour. Amazingly she has done it a couple times already out of the 4 or 5 shows they've done since.
The ending is mind blowing movie quality.
The last part of the song-the operatic part is a great example of Spinto Soprano voice. Altough I am really amazed to hear a soprano singer with ability to bring extra sound down low as-well-Perfect 👍👍

a couple of comments here correctly (almost) name the male singer Troy, who performs it live with Floor--however, the lyric video you just listened to has 3 parts, with the male *voices* being sung by Marco AND Troy, before Marco left the band (Troy is the lower baritone, and Marco is the higher tenor, in this recording).

Please?
Yes. She should absolutely do these videos to the extent that you determine to be 'enough'.
Noted...
I like the gifs 😊
Power and Majesty from the indomitable Floor Jansen!!
Shoemaker was training to be an astronaut, the first geologist to walk on the moon, when they found he had Addison's Disease and was disqualified. He went on to train astronauts to do the job he would have done.
But: I'm quite proud of Floor that the main criticism you had for her operatic singing was pronunciation.
It's not her main feat after all.

Live this was even better!
Goosebumps every time
The way I see it: at 07:45 the Laudato si... etc is sung by Floor indubitably.

Hello Miss Maggie,
"Shoemaker" is one of the most beautiful and powerful song of Nightwish : the end is so magical...
you can try other great singers (vocals) : Therion - the live gothic in 2007, with the song "Rise of Sodom And Gomorrah" or (my favourite) Perennial Sophia (a beautiful duet).
Next singer, you should listen to, because she is amazing (she's like a little fairy to me), is Miss Maria Franz, and she's deserve a video :
the singer of Euzen, Heilung and Songleikr (more viking and shamanic vibes) :
"Maria vocals - LIFA" - Heilung - this video is a mix of the LIFA concert in CastelFest - it was the first time they played in front of an audience together - this concert was rewarded in Europe...
I really love this song : "Ulvetime" - Songleikr - translation : the wolves time, (even my husband hear the "Ahou-Ahouuuuuu" at night)
or the very emotional : "Cruel all by myself " - Euzen live Castelfest
Take care of you :)

Trying?
I'm not sure she even realized it was Floor. Just judging by the gif-space saying "WHO is that?!"
The male bridge is sung by Troy Donockley, backed by Marko Hietala.
