Been hanging on to this 22E04 letter since July 2023 for my 2022 F250. These comments from guys who have done it and regretted are pretty interesting. Glad I haven’t done it but not sure if they’re referring to the 22E07 recall that changed engine idle or the 22E04 recall that seems to be more about NOx sensor preheat. Either way, if I were to save as-builts of the PCM and TCM with FORscan, couldn’t I revert back if I had it done and decided it sucks?
Well done video. Thanks. I’m just concerned that the update will cause a big loss in mileage. Also my trans shifts perfectly, and I see no need to alter it. Will I get to pass registration in AZ when it needs that for renewal???

Local dealer doesn’t seem interested in the spring seat interface recall. Does your shop have the materials and experienced welder to take care of this?
I have 22 f250 6.7 liter it was downshifting hard from 3rd to 2nd to 1st. Had the TCM software update done, I live in Tx, drove it up to Michigan the next day total difference, night and day. Feels like a different truck smooth shifting. Also, I’ve been adding the Hot Shot fuel additive to each fill up, and my regens are not as often as before. I was having them about every week now it’s down to every month or 2. Now I’ve been in and out of shop for 2 of the 4 TPMS sensors failing, and the radio module sucks to. Static In system when adjusting fan for A/C up and down, coming thru speakers.
I never update software on anything that works. I don’t see a need. Since I stopped updating windows it quit crashing. No more blue screens Or problems of any kind. It’s impossible for you as a tech to actually know what they really did. They could of installed some kind of government monitoring system
I wish you were in Oklahoma. My ‘21 6.7, with only 38,000 miles, is sitting there with a hole in the side of the engine. I would trust you to take it down and get it back together correctly. They’re replacing the long block, injectors, main engine wiring harness and turbos. Been at the dealership since the last week of February and they are telling me they can’t even get a new turbo until the middle of April. If you could get the parts, I know you would get it back together correctly. I’m so nervous about of it getting put back together correctly.
I just performed this recall. After PCM and TCM were uodated Nox sensor module 11 needed ti be updated. I didnt click on anything else , it popped up right after TCM.
Does this affect the regen ? You mentioned @ 375 miles +/-. My 2021 seems to regen at no set mileage schedule. Most of my "around town" trips are routinely average less than 10 miles, what has my curiosity is, I will check the def gauge, and it seems to stay steady for long periods, sometimes 1500 to 2000 or more miles, indicating that the truck does not regen. but if I drive down to San Diego from where I live in Utah, drive around maybe 1200 / 1400 miles, it will regen 3 or 4 times. Most recent was in October of 2022, when I went to San Diego, and experienced several regen cycles. Upon returning home, I "topped" the def, and it fluctuated between 6000 & 6500 miles of def, and did not drop until June 2023 on my next trip to San Diego, will this update address this "alleged" issue, or is what I am experiencing normal ?
Will have to get done. Thanks ARod!! I run Archoil 6500 with fill ups and drive Hwy miles, Don't notice regens and DEF last forever, if that's a concern for some. Love your videos and work. Just wish I was closer to have you touch my truck.
I just picked my 22 up from having this update done my drive home was very short only three miles so of course it's hard to say exactly how things are going to act as it gets a few more miles and everything learns my driving again. But the quick impression the shifts on the transmission are far smoother than they ever were previously. And I noticed one of the ways I tested something was by going extremely slow on acceleration from the stoplight so the truck had to shift into second. And that's where it was even more noticeable how much smoother the shifts are now. Will be interesting to see how acts for the next week and what other Impressions I may have of this update.
I’ve had hesitant starts off the line and a few rough downshifts since I drove my 550 off the lot, I hope this helps even though I’m so used to it by now. Arod what’s your take on swapping out my Orem trans fluid out for amsoil full Syn? Worth it or am I being a diva about it?
3-400 miles between regens on new powerstrokes!?? Meanwhile my 4th gen ram goes 700-1000 miles between regens. My 2013 powerstroke was about 120 miles between regens before I dumped it... Why do Fords run dirtier than the Cummins?
After getting this done, I had to re-enable one of the settings for OCR using Forscan. Just heads up. Mine is a 21. I could see the option to toggle automatic regen, but I couldn't turn it off until I enabled it again.
I noticed the same thing, just made a comment... assume you have your DPF% screen on too... I notice it doesn't call for a regen till 100% now.. And can you remind me where the ability to turn it on and off is found/labeled in forscan? I can see the toggle but can't use it. I was fixing a light issue (see comment above) when I got into forscan so I didn't mess with the auto regen stuff much. And like an idiot I didn't make notes when I switched it all a year or more ago. Thanks! Glad I'm not the only one seeing some changes to settings.
@@alaskaaccurate466 like ARod said, it's only the changes made to the PCM that you need to do again. Look for the auto regen setting in the PCM module.

These software updates, does Ford at some point not worry about the older trucks if even years down the road theres a recognized issue. Like on steel bodies...to reduce regens or update for more HP or a better exhaust brake strategy?
Super random but i think a video about some must have tools or just tools that make things easier working on powerstrokes would be awesome! Iv found a few I like to keep in my tool box, would be cool to see what other people use
Hey Rod, thank you very much for the explanation on the 22EO4, I’m in Anchorage, Alaska, and I have an appointment on the 24th Monday to get it taken care of, just had a curiosity roughly about how long did that take you to do the PCM and TCM software downloads, it look like it was fairly quick within about 20 minutes, but couldn’t tell by the video. Thank you you rock.
That's one thing I despise about doing flash recalls, some take forever to do and warranty pays .2 to .6 for them. We had one a few years ago where the files were uncompressed and would take up to 3 hours to do it. Warranty paid I think 3.3 for it. Then they updated it and now only pay like .5.
Have my appointment first Friday in August. Lately it just feels like my 10spd in my 2022 F350 6.7 Tremor just doesnt shift as well as it used to. Hopefully this fixes the issue.
It sure has on my 2021 350. very pleased. I was having frequent enough "thunks" that my wife paid attn and I was losing faith that the transmission would last long... long trip coming up too... now it's smooth as butter. Have 1300 miles since reboot, and 700+ was towing, and love love love it.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Thanks for your answer! I guess I'm going to have to get the CP4 mod done in a mechanic shop. Btw where's your shop located?
Thanks for the explanation sir! It's good to break it down for folks, so they understand what is going on with all the modules on board. My thing, coming from an IT background, is, we almost NEVER do firmware updates on stuff unless it's running weird or there are some kinds of compatibility issues with new hardware we're trying to install. I've seen SO many times, where people have upgraded firmware (or a BIOS) on their servers or controllers only to have MORE issues. For me, my truck has been running flawlessly and in Eco mode I see almost 20mpg. It shifts good and just works well, so I'm not going to mess with it. I guess part of me is thinking that there is some backdoor programming going on that people are never going to know about... Just my $0.02. Appreciate you bro!
Fellow IT person here, there are just certain things you don’t do unless it’s properly lab tested and sometimes you just don’t do. Coming from the early days of the 6.0 Powerstroke, MANY people got duped coming into the dealer for the “Free Oil Change” only to leave the dealer with less power and fuel economy than they came with. There is always some secret sauce they put in that they don’t tell you. It seems like this helps more than anything, but I’ll wait to hear what the others have to say.
I'll have to take my truck in for the recall. I'm already happy with it, but if it makes things better, I'm all for it. I wonder how long it will take?@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod

Like I said, no thanks. Truck regens every 500 miles, first superduty(have had 11) that doesn’t regen 150-350 miles. Truck runs good. Back in the early 2000 ford would screw us with mpg hits with flashes.

Sorry pal, I don't do warranty work
Had mine done about a month ago. Can’t tell any difference except maybe not having a ruff shift down from second to first . That’s about it.
Don’t get it done. Had mine done 9/26 and hauled my camper 1,600 miles and now the transmission is blown and having to get replaced at the dealer.
didn't this extend a warranty for temp sensors or nox sensors
Read 22e04
I’ll remove my Banks programs and the unit beforehand will it still work after this update
yes sir
I just performed this recall. After PCM and TCM were uodated Nox sensor module 11 needed ti be updated. I didnt click on anything else , it popped up right after TCM.
Hmmm wonder if this will fix my dreaded P20EE DTC…. Dealership says it needed a new DPF.
Yea thats an entirely different thing. I wld however go beat it yp on the free way tho
I think you would be a candidate for some Forscan work. Powerstroketechtalkwarod@gmail.com see you there
will this wipe out my forscan settings?
It will for auto regen inhibit, bout it
Will have to get done. Thanks ARod!! I run Archoil 6500 with fill ups and drive Hwy miles, Don't notice regens and DEF last forever, if that's a concern for some. Love your videos and work. Just wish I was closer to have you touch my truck.
Have a maryland and Louisiana folks here right meeeow. Thanks buddy. Stay tuned Archoil coming soon
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Colorado here, may have to hit you up! looking forward for your info on Archoil.
Will be interesting to see how acts for the next week and what other Impressions I may have of this update.
wonder if I'll get flack for the Banks air cleaner and exhaust??
Absolutely not, both are carb compliant & have no bearing on said reflash
For people that had a weight reduction to their alumaduty, will this mess up tuning?
...........umm
I’ve had hesitant starts off the line and a few rough downshifts since I drove my 550 off the lot, I hope this helps even though I’m so used to it by now.
Arod what’s your take on swapping out my Orem trans fluid out for amsoil full Syn? Worth it or am I being a diva about it?
I wld welcome the fluis change & wld be excited for you to update zeee trans software
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thank you sir. 🍻
Thanks for the insider info arod. Ive fixed a few trucks just by updating the pcm and tcm in the recent months
3-400 miles between regens on new powerstrokes!?? Meanwhile my 4th gen ram goes 700-1000 miles between regens. My 2013 powerstroke was about 120 miles between regens before I dumped it... Why do Fords run dirtier than the Cummins?
Beyond top notch. PTT W/A Rod. The man!!
After getting this done, I had to re-enable one of the settings for OCR using Forscan. Just heads up. Mine is a 21. I could see the option to toggle automatic regen, but I couldn't turn it off until I enabled it again.
Yepp have had to do many
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARodjust so I’m clear, after this update, am I going to have to re-do my FORScan changes?
For the ones made ONLY to the PCM, thats it.
As long as it doesn’t detune my power like they did to my 6.0.
I think ill keep my ecm/tcm tunes from Calibrated Power
Loved their tuning on my 16
Don't Do any updates !!! My 2020 f250 6.7 lost 100 hp and 250 ft lbs tq. Because of Ford recall hidden with EPA Emissions reduction.
Yea crock of shit, try again
Hey !! Love watching your videos. Learned a LOT
Question. If I do this will it wipe out any forscan stuff I’ve done. ?
Thank you !
Hey thanks broski, it will only affect changes made to the pcm
Scheduled for Tuesday….👊🏻🇺🇸
Went in to finally get my wiper recall done a week ago and they wouldn’t do this recall. They said some dealer bs about how it’s only for those having issues. Now I have to go back. Ugh
They hadn't a clue what they're talking about
Is this a real recall or just greater restriction on our diesels?
I know you love turning wrenches Aaron but you should really be a senior tech that Ford corporate sends out when their are problems other dealer techs can’t figure out ! DO YOU HEAR ME FORD ? THIS MECHANIC IS WHAT YOU WANT !
Ha....too bad if they only felt the same
My friend said after the update his truck uses more DEF, regins more and uses more fuel when regining.
This isnt a 17-19 pal
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod his is a 19 and mine is a 19. I requested no update or computer flashed. It runs fine.
Exactly as i thought 17-19.....
Probably have to bolt a few parts back on first.....lol
These software updates, does Ford at some point not worry about the older trucks if even years down the road theres a recognized issue. Like on steel bodies...to reduce regens or update for more HP or a better exhaust brake strategy?
If it's an emission's compliance issue then yes
They direct us to you!
Super random but i think a video about some must have tools or just tools that make things easier working on powerstrokes would be awesome! Iv found a few I like to keep in my tool box, would be cool to see what other people use
How long after the letters are released does one have to get the recall done?
Forever
Why can’t these just be updated via Wi-Fi instead of going to the dealer? Tesla can do it.
Ask Dearborn
Hey Rod, thank you very much for the explanation on the 22EO4, I’m in Anchorage, Alaska, and I have an appointment on the 24th Monday to get it taken care of, just had a curiosity roughly about how long did that take you to do the PCM and TCM software downloads, it look like it was fairly quick within about 20 minutes, but couldn’t tell by the video. Thank you you rock.
Yepp bout half hour
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 BIG AROD
Taaaaaavoooooh
That's one thing I despise about doing flash recalls, some take forever to do and warranty pays .2 to .6 for them. We had one a few years ago where the files were uncompressed and would take up to 3 hours to do it. Warranty paid I think 3.3 for it. Then they updated it and now only pay like .5.
Have my appointment first Friday in August. Lately it just feels like my 10spd in my 2022 F350 6.7 Tremor just doesnt shift as well as it used to. Hopefully this fixes the issue.
It will, report back
It sure has on my 2021 350. very pleased. I was having frequent enough "thunks" that my wife paid attn and I was losing faith that the transmission would last long... long trip coming up too... now it's smooth as butter. Have 1300 miles since reboot, and 700+ was towing, and love love love it.
Ooooooo yeah 2020 boyzzzzz.
How about a recall on 2019 super duty fuel pump? Asking for a friend.
No such recall for, that friend.....
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Thanks for your answer! I guess I'm going to have to get the CP4 mod done in a mechanic shop. Btw where's your shop located?
Detroit
I have a 22 and I haven’t got my letter what should I do
Come see me or send us your vin to powerstroketechtalkwarod@gmail.com
I just sent my vin
Will get back to you later when i work
Is this the update that is causing the increase in DEF useage?
Increase, i dunno bout that
Got a 22 bought in Sept of 22, Ford website shows no recalls or open service bulletins. 🤷♂️
Thanks for the info ARod. I've got my appointment for next Friday to get this done.
Great explanation of the recall and programming involved.
Great job sir.
Just had my 6.7 done on Monday! It seems to running smoothly and better than before. I am happy about it!
Thank you sir!!!
YOU'RE A BEAST A-ROD 💪 NICE JOB SIR GOOD JOB ON THE VIDEO TOP NOTCH 👏🇺🇸🇺🇸

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod heeeeeey
Have heard nothing but good things....and def "no free oil change"
I'll have to take my truck in for the recall. I'm already happy with it, but if it makes things better, I'm all for it. I wonder how long it will take?@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
Not long
Does this update apply to the 7.3 gas transmission also.
6.7 only
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I have a 2022 7.3 gas and the transmission does some crazy stuff. I was at a red light last went to take off it acted like it was in neutral. After patting the gas a few times it finally slammed into gear. It jerks when starting it in park. It shifts crazy. Does it need to be reprogrammed?
Id do it for you
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I know you mainly work on diesels, but have you seen these symptoms before on the 2022 7.3 gas trucks before?
I have seen shifting issues that software took care of. Come see me
Like I said, no thanks. Truck regens every 500 miles, first superduty(have had 11) that doesn’t regen 150-350 miles. Truck runs good. Back in the early 2000 ford would screw us with mpg hits with flashes.
Guys are reporting almost 600 between regens now
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod lol..impossible. Computer won’t allow 500 miles between regen. It regens At minimum 496 miles if soot content doesn’t kick it sooner. FYI, I think ford f’d up on the emissions for these years and is now required to go back and recalibrate…kinda like what vw went through.
Oh it will now
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod really? I’ll start a thread at ford-truck…that would be absolutely sweet if it does…
A high level ranking Forscan senior is & has confirmed such numbers in his 20 F450
My 2020 f450 runs much better after doing this. Gear shifts are more what I want it to do and does not rev as high anymore. My fuel milegage even increased by about 1mpg due to the changed shifting pattern. Seems to be using low end torque more than the high rpm hp from before the update. The truck is totally different from before, but much better. Accelleration from a stop is awesome now.
We appreciate your response David

Why dose my f250 1999 die when I plug the OBD2 IN when connecting to
Have a 2020 f350 and have rough shifting on steap inclines when 4 wheeling and pulling my boat up a steap ramp. Will this fix that or is this due to low fluid or something else? 83k had transmission service at 60k by ford. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks Arod and everyone else for the info!

8 minutes of video and you hardly explained anything of what the updates are even doing
Guess u did t watch till the end....
The letter you got is all is have....if you want to know more....i welcomed you to ask our brothers and sisters in Dearborn
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod my main question was on a 22 550 does the tcm update address the acceleration being almost non existent from a roll in 3rd? And the aggressive downshifts, even letting off the brake to go from a light you get on the throttle and it shakes the whole truck and lunges forward. How are they ok with that
So thats a lot of concerns there pal, I will tell you people are commenting about their post repair shifts & they are good. Like i said in the video if yall want to know more youll have to call dearborn. Thats above my pay grade
Should this update be done if your truck doesn’t have certain stock exhaust parts?
