Very common problem, the turbo return pipe, they fail after 10,000-30,000km. Had it happen to me already but took it to ford immediately after I spotted the oil leak.
@@marcusbarnes5929 it’s a fresh setup you are going to have problems. The first 200 and 70 series v8 drank oil and they had to rectify the piston rings. It happens.
My turbo return line went after 8000klm if l wasn't towing a caravan and noticed oil on the safety chains I probably would have blown it up. Ford towed it to the nearest dealer and repaired it .they said metal fatigue on the return line .8000klm metal fatigue? See how long it last this time.
Mate I think FORD did right by you because of your "online notoriety " had it been the average Joe blow, I believe they would of given them the run around ( I can attest to this with a px3 Wildtrack) .... Most important thing here is that you and the family are safe...
I'd be interested to know if the service received was due to your popularity, and whether this would extend to normal Joe Public. Concerning though that there's no low oil pressure warning at all coming up on the dash, difference between saving an engine/trip and your experience.
We broke down 100kms out of broken hill towing our Lotus caravan. RAA sent a flat bed for the ute with another ute on it for us to tow the van. Covered our accommodation for the night and repaired the ute . Great help by RAA
I believe if everyone with a new Ranger issue that is currently battling with warranty had a UA-cam channel with 43,000 subscribers they would not have a battle. None of them that appeared on A Current Affair to try and help push their issues with Ford had UA-cam followers or an motorvehicle industry known businesses. Glad you had the success you did Ruben but its not applying to the average punter.
I blew the engine in my 2019 Everest 3.2 thanks to the EGR cooler dumping the engine coolant into the inlet manifold. The car still had 4 months warranty left and had done 113,000km. I was 50km north of Townsville 3000km from home. Ford roadside assist organized a flat top to the Tville Ford dealer, a hire car which was a new Everest platinum and paid for my accommodation for the 4 weeks it took Ford to source a new donk and fit it in my car. Unbelievable service, I couldn't believe it.
Hi mate, It only takes a very small amount of PSI only a pound or 2 to turn the oil pressure warning light off, you REALLY need a capillary oil gauge that will show you the exact oil pressure ALL THE TIME. Those dash light indicators come on as the engine goes BANG, and that's way too late. I've been a mechanic all my life and an NRMA roadside patrolman for 17yrs and I've seen this again and again and again. I've said to people before, did the oil light come on, and they always said, YES, after the engine went bang and I'm talking 100kph and it goes bang. Take care. Seeya Rob
That service you received is brilliant. I dont think if I was in the same situation I would get same offer from Ford. Grad you have a positive experience. I refuse to believe it will be the same for common folks.
You got the best warranty experiance ever - we havent, only replaced the minimum when my px1 ranger blew up cause of injectors, replaced the one faulty injector and put the others same age back in, motor blew up again…..
In the turbo return line to sump you shouldn’t have any oil pressure as the design is meant to be 3 times larger than the feed line to the turbo so after it’s passed the bearing or bush in the turbo it’s pressure drops to zero and gravity feeds back to the sump so therefore you won’t have a drop in oil pressure causing the oil light to come on until the sump is out of oil and the pump can’t get oil
memories like this You, your family and friends will talk about FOREVER . that's living... RFDS are a fantastic bunch and i will forever be grateful for them. great stuff 😁👍
We have a 2016 territory, same symptoms no leak at idle running for over an hr idling but as soon as you drive we have an oil leak on the ground, used a inspection camera & found oil seepage from the turbo oil feed line where the flexible line is crimped to the hard line, what a bastard to get to, car has only done 142ks. Excellent video I feel better knowing Im not the only 1 having issues. Cheers
Hey Rubes Had the exact same prob with my V6 ranger. I noticed oil drips on my shed floor where it gets parked up (only after 15000kms) Rang ford and booked it in for inspection. They said it was the turbo oil inlet hose was leaking, also the outlet hose was doing the same thing. They ordered the new parts gave me a hire car during the time it took the parts to come in. All fixed now, sounds like I got to it earlier enough, no dramas since and was happy with the way they dealt with it
Good thing you had it checked right away. Saved you a lot of hassle. :) And good on Ford for doing the right thing for the customer. Thanks for sharing this @comforthomesqldbundaberg4156 .
Hi, unfortunate at what happened with the Ranger. I do a lot of outback travels, eg Simpson desert 18 times, Canning Stock Route in my GQ Patrol with my brother. We have had situations where we have had to fix things and where not mechanics, but very mechanically minded and knowledgeable. Don't take this the wrong way, but, you said in the video you're a qualified mechanic, and noticed under the vehicle there was a lot of oil splattered. Thought you would had done more investigation of where the oil was coming from. I had oil leaking from engine in out back QLD, found a pin hole leak in one of the two oil filters. Changed oil and filters on the trip at Cairns. What I'm saying, i looked until I found it. All in all, glad Ford looked after you.
Got a next gen Ranger biturbo. It's had a tailshaft replacement and 3 seperate oil leak repairs all within the first 7,000km. The 3rd oil leak was less than 100km from the 2nd leak being fixed! And this was the car to go to the outback away from service centres. Glad your situation worked out but I have zero confidence in my car and would happily give it back for 100% of the purchase price. Great that others have no issues with theirs but that's my experience.
We got a cracked rear diff housing whilst in the Pilbara in September. Ford organised the tow to Karratha, yes I had to pay a $370 excess because of the camper trailer. Long story short, Ford Customer Care reimbursed me for all the expenses I incurred due to the breakdown. You really can't fault the company any more. My Ford case manager was absolutely brilliant.
We just had been on Plenty hwy and had lunch at Tobermorey station. We came out of Simpson Desert by Patrol Y62 via Jervois station due to floods near Birdsville. From my experience of owning a Ford Everest and Ford XR6, it is good to know that customer service exists. My UA-cam channel hardly has the power to grab Fords customer service attention
The old cruiser behind you wouldn’t have required a video… they just worked 40 odd years ago, and still do!! I am more modern in my 88 60 series - but am still more confident to travel in it remote compared to a new vehicle!
Exact same issue for us! Almost in the same location ! We broke down 5 weeks ago, oil leak. Ford assistance fixed it in 48h now… it’s happening again ! We are stuck in Coober Pedy for 10days already and will probably have to wait 10 more days before to get the car ! Terrible experience !
I have a 2018 BT50. Same engine as the 2018 ford ranger/Everest. Egr cooler failed and popped the engine. I was in sale victoria when engine popped. Being a ford engine, A representative from pakenham ford which are right next to pakenham mazda drove a hire car out to us within 2 hours of me making the phone call. Car was fixed 3 weeks later and returned to my address in exchange of the hire car in my driveway. No questions asked and no arguments. I was blown away also. The mazda/ford partnership is golden
Your a mechanic? Oil just doesn’t disappear. No tell tale signs of leaking over the back of the vehicle or the front of the van prior to this happening? When you had to top it up, surely you would be looking.
14:18 Ive got the 2015 5cly Everest, and that was one of the things I read up with people having the DPF valves go aswell as when its in tow the temps can get up, so got trans-cooler and oil and fuel filters installed but the standard coolant gauge on the everest, jumped 20-40c before the gauge even moved and stories I heard was that people had this happen to them and they got to 150c before it went into limp mode but no indication what so ever. Installed the ultragauge and fair enough 38c towing 3tonne and the ultragauge showed the temps by the second but the gauge on the dash said nothing. Pays to install an ultragauge or equivalent cause these newer cars hide all the details you really need
All of the pre 2023 Amarok’s (VW manufactured) 4 banger and V6’s all have sensors that alert you (dash light) if the sump oil level is too high or too low. They also have a sensor in the coolant reservoir for low coolant level and will alert you if you were to do a radiator hose and instantly drop coolant. A mechanic friend has a 2018 Wildtrack that had the EGR let go at a 110kph a few years ago, dropped the coolant onto the ground and within a short distance the engine completely seized with absolutely no warning and initially he had absolutely no idea on what just happened, but get this, there is a low fluid sensor in his windshield washer bottle. 🤔🤷♂️
As good as your experience was with the warranty, I just fear something catastrophic like that happening outside of the warranty and then you're out of pocket 20k for a new engine
Yes but Ford isn't exactly known for reliability. I've heard a few times now that they were bought in bulk for fleet vehicles and then down the track had to get replaced with Toyota's. I'm not even a Toyota fan, I'll just buy what suits my needs but I don't think they've proven themselves yet and the chances of something going wrong as soon as it gets out of warranty is probably pretty high, nobody knows yet, only time will tell. I'm just sharing my opinion
@@JoshSinnott97we had the rangers where I work large company would have had around 20 plus rangers 6 months and had to get ride of them engine failures and transmissions they where replaced with Toyota and dmax utes
Met a guy about a year back in Kalgoorlie, his brand new 2.0 ranger threw a fan on the Nullarbor going east. Ford looked after him exceptionally well with a hire car & accomodation while waiting for parts. Not a Ford fan but credit where credit is due. Also wondering if that V6 is a derivative of the Lion engine which was used in Land Rover, the 2.7 & 3.0 were known for snapping cranks around the 100k mark, just out of warranty of course. Ford/ Land Rover walked away. Class action in South Africa.
Yes, you are correct. It's just an updated version of the landy/peugeot etc Lion engine. I've also heard this new engine is used in US broncos & are still snapping cranks 🤦
@@JSH083 That’s not good, not like they’ve not had time to fix the defects. There’s some good reading on forum’s about the cause & remedies , but no definitive answer. Fortunately they don’t build aircraft.
Had same issue with fathers car same vehicle. drove from vic to QLD and had no oil. They said the same thing first one seen. Did not fail the motor but was towed he had a loan car for the repair.
A question from a novice, but why were you using a ute to tow a 3 tonne caravan, when a Y62 was towing a camper trailer / small van? Surely it would have been better the other way around?
I had an engine failure in a bi turbo ranger due to a turbo seal letting go which pumped oil into the intake hydrolocking the motor. Ford service was fantastic!!. We are from vic and were in outback Queensland towing a van with 3 young kids. They sent a tow truck with a car on it for us to drive to the next town. The tow truck then took the ranger and van to the next town, set us up at the caravan park while the ford dealership got straight onto the ranger to diagnose the problem. Once diagnosed that it was a catastrophic failure ford flew us home, put us in a hire car and when the ranger was repaired it was sent on a truck with our van to our door at no cost to us. Couldn't ask for more than that!
Great after sales service. Good on them. Even though there were hassles in these situations, we can still appreciate the efforts of Ford to make it less inconvenient for the customer. Thanks for sharing @kristian62
I’ve heard a similar story with warranty from a neighbor who had a remote failure on a PXII. My dads next gen bi-turbo has had a new transmission at 18,000kms but then drove around Australia with no issues. My next gen v6 diesel and now raptor haven’t had any issues, nor did my PX or PXII rangers.
My V6 split the oil return line at about 15,000ks. From what I hear there will probably be a recall when they come out with a revised line. For now I just check it once a week.
Are you happy with that shituation? How long has the world being producing oil lines and Ford still can't it right? I'm sure they can get it right but they would prefer to use cheap parts on $70k cars.
@@simmo6035 not super happy, but I'll deal with it. Ford fixed the problem. Stuff happens with all new cars. Hilux DPF, D-MAX turbos and cracking front ends, lc200 dusting engines since they came out. It's how the manufacturer deal with the problem and Ford have been good so far.
Ford loves to say it's the first time a problem has ever happened. Even when you walk in and tell them everyone on the forums has had the same problem...
The old “do you know who I am” has a thing or two to do with the service you were given by Ford mate. Us regulars would be fighting months and months to get anything.
You left out RACQ Ultimate Care, you mentioned Ultra Care which comes second best. They certainly DO cover towing a caravan (I have used this twice) and the last time from Laura to Cooktown, caravan was towed and the car put on a flat bed truck. They have reduced the number of kms I think but it stands at 200km for car and caravan to be towed for free to the nearest RACQ depot.
Bonnet up on Ford ranger is a common sight up here in nt West qld. That's why everyone drives a Toyota in these parts. Not fun stuck on the side of the track in remote areas.
Hi. i have just bought a v6 Wildtrak over hear in NZ. I have decided to try the ranger and yes I love it. I am a convert from Hilux . I have owned 4 of them and no issues. My Wildtrak has done about 16000km. And had the 15000km service done on time. I watch your video just the other day. Great buy the way. Today I went to leave my garage and look at that oil on the floor. I got underneath and look at that it looks like its coming from the pipe you are talking about. So thanks its booked in tomorrow. Maybe it may be a problem and a recall in needed. ??
I have a Mahindra s11 and not quite the same as it was a servicing error of a oil filter rattling off on the Bruce highway. The service I got from my local dealer 4 weeks with a courtesy car, new motor, new turbo, new intercooler, etc. the fact the dealerships head mechanic rang me directly, told me straight that it was their mistake, same thing I’d but another vehicle from that dealer whether it’s another mahindra or a new patrol. It’s the service, the staff and the effort they put into makes and models they sell. Big shout out to Curtis Coast Automotive.
Well years back I was driving a different brand of vehicle that left me stuck in middle of mojave desert..... Chevy trailblazer. Over heated no hole or leak in cooling system.
Wealies first. So pleased Ford accomdated the situation well for you. Curious how you hadn't picked up on the oil being dispersed (sprayed) under the vehicle. I'd be doing a more thoughouh inspection myself, especially when you're adding oil daily. Hannah wasn't Ruben Revving it then, just a basic fault.
Mate my new Everest spat a diesel line and flooded a full tank of fuel all over my driveway..... 30 minutes Ford picked it up and said the smell will drive you crazy ..... they gave me a replace loan vehicle for a week and then gave me a brand new one - love Ford
Man, lucky you. When I went to Ford with an intermittent crank no start, they played dumb and said they never heard of it coz a fault code was not present. I did a bit of research and found it was the crank sensor.
My PX 3 with 30k on odometer is doing exactly the same....crank and no start when hot an have to wait 20 to 30 mins to cool down then it will start ...not throwing codes or engine light.. I was told it would be a 4 month wait to get it looked at by the ford dealership.
Good outcome and service from Ford. I only hope they deliver the same service for customers who dont have the public exposure of DMW. Thanks for the content. Cheers
How glorious is the Middleton Pub!! I had an accident on the Plenty (nearly rolled my Disco thanks to bulldust and then had a roo jump into the passenger window), had a feed at Middleton the next day for breaky, that was the best breaky I have ever had!!
Middleton Pub is definitely a gem! Sorry to hear about your adventure, sounds like it was quite the wild ride! But hey, at least you got a killer breakfast out of it, right? Always a silver lining!
I’ve got a V6 XLT with 37000ks on the clock and did a turbo drain at 33000ks and the new one has just failed at 36000. Ford wouldn’t even come and collect the Ute the first and second time even though I’m only an hour away from the dealership. When I got it back after the second one and checked the oil they hadn’t even changed or topped it up properly. They didn’t seem to concerned.
That's unfortunate @user-bf9ke6jd4j . I hope all dealerships are willing to help its customers. Of course based upon the eligibility of the claims. Thanks for sharing your experience mate.
only giving you that service cause of your videos mate, just like we see in all these 4x4 promoters in australia, good luck to the average joe getting that service......just sayen good for you.
There where engine failures reported very quickly after release ( 3 to 4 months after lauch) of the current gen rangers. A good friend of mine is already on his second engine after it was replaced at 15000km and is now having issues with the replacement engine
All you need to do is look at the history of The TDV6 LR Diecoveries and Range Rovers if it's not oil starvation it's an explosive Crankshaft... I'm a LR fan and knowing this has actually stopped me from purchasing the current Gen Ranger, I was really hopefully Ford made the right changes but like yourself all I've heard is drama after drama Maybe series 2 or 3 might be worth a look haha.
Glad you’re ok and things got sorted out! My neighbour ordered a new Ford ranger. He went travelling the outback for 3 months in his old hillux ute. When he got back, he cancelled his order. when I asked him why, he said he had talked to ranger owners on the road about their experience with the car and their dealers. He met many ranger owners who were very happy with their car, but the comparative volume of people who are having problems and issues with their rangers and warranty challenges made him think twice. Adblue problems and transmission issues were common themes.
You ask about experience of support with other vehicles. I had a breakdown of an Ineos Grenadier (a failed pressure sensor). Response from Ineos Assist was first rate. I was in outback Queensland. They had a flat bed tow truck to me within 2 hours. Took vehicle AND van to Toowoomba. Covered hotel accomodation, hire car and eventually a flight back to Melbourne and then a return flight to collect (they offered to deliver to Melbourne at no charge). That was pretty good roadside Assistance from Ineos (included in purchase price)
Ahh so its begun! Was woundering how long it would before the v6 was going to start letting go. This was/is a well know issue with the Landrover TDv6 3.0. My Disco 4 had the same issue, same engine, dropped all its oil at 25000kms and needed to be rebult. Not surprised they havent fixed this return line problem. The next big issue to watch out for is the crank shaft snapping at 50000ish kms. Not all do it, but its common problem with these engines. Love Discos, still have one and a Ranger as well.
Wow. At this point in time (after 12 months of thousands of consumers buying them) there is ONE isolated example of a V6 with an issue and you state 'ah so it's begun'. What's begun? Do you mean it may have set a new benchmark that only ONE out of many thousands let go? As a manufacturer I'd be pumped with that stat!!!
Ha ha snapped crank. Makes me laugh cause our Jeep Grand Cherokee threw a main bearing at 48000kms. 3 litre V6 Turbo Diesel. Apparently very common in the states but not here. Traded it in to the same dealer straight after the engine was replaced. 1 month wait from the USA for a crate engine. Was never the same again. No power.
As an ex Auto Elect we know that oil pressure switches generally only bring on the light around seven psi. By the time the light comes on it's over red rover. I had an oil pressure switch blow out on my old six banger EL falcon on the M4 doing a 110kph, it was lucky that I spotted some smoke coming out the back that I pulled over and witnessed the next Exxon Valdez. I checked the dipstick and gambled that I could get about five KM down the road to get some oil. I have had mixed results from getting thing fixed on various Fords. My EL falcon blew an A/C compressor and they fitted a new compressor without changing the receiver drier or flushing the system. I knew they hadn't flushed it as we used to flush them at my workshop, yep it crapped itself after the warranty ran out. I did have an issue with my PX Ranger, it blew a turbo hose just out of warranty. I took it back to the local Ford dealer and the service manager stated that since I had not had it serviced at Ford, he would fit the hose for free if I purchased a new hose at spare parts. I declined his offer as the hoses are garbage and purchased a silicone hose from a local parts supplier and it takes a couple of seconds to fit. Unbelievably at the sixty thousand km service they claimed my front pads were over sixty percent worn, the vehicle is a manual and I am not a harsh driver. I just replaced them at one hundred and sixty five thousand KM. I guess that Ford make the decision they make on what value they can get from publicity. That is my personal view considering the experiences I have had with them. I love my PX Ranger and would consider another Ranger at later date.
Thanks for sharing your experience mate. As it shows on some of the testimonials and comments from customers, Ford has improved their after sales service. We can understand as a business as well, we get challenges like these but the most improtant thing is to keep working on being better and serve the customers well. Thank you for your time @richardcrowell284 .
Is there a recall for the turbo Oil return line on the 2024 Diesel V6 ? Heard of 2 in my local area that have had the split return line before 20k kays.
I hope I get the same response from them, I had the engine light come on, they change the oil at 7500ks, then engine light came on again and it was a glow plug fault, I will keep a look out for drops of oil now. Setting off in the van in the new year to run up the center and around.
Great story and service from Ford. I own a 2018 Disco TDv6 and also experienced catastrophic engine failure. Waited 6 mth’s for the vehicle to be repaired with new engine, turbo etc. Within 3 days of receiving my Disco I sent it back with a leak on a turbo pipe!!! My question to you out there, is the new Ranger/Amarok v6 not fitted with the same motor as the Disco TDv6 powered Discovery?
It's unfortunate to hear about your experience with your Discovery TDv6. While both the new Ranger/Amarok V6 and the Discovery TDv6 are powered by 3.0-liter V6 diesel engines, they may not be exactly the same. The specific configurations, tuning, and components may vary between manufacturers and models, which could account for differences in reliability and performance. It's always best to consult with experts or review detailed specifications to understand the specific differences between these engines.
They had the same engine but the new Rangers have a revisioned version.(At least Ford said so) The old version(Ford Lion/Rover TDv6) destroyed the bearing shells or had cracking crankshafts(There are only 4! BMW has 6 or 7 in their 6 cylinder engines) and not enough oil pressure when pushing it down coming from low rpm. Unfortunately I've got no details what they changed. I hoped to find something.
my parents have a new V 6 ford ranger they had ARB fit it out before Rego they did a big trip towing there 19-foot caravan. had its first service on their trip got it back to Victoria and took it back to ford for adjustments. Ford could not get the computer to cooperate had to wait 2 weeks for a new computer so it could be up dated ford are now talking to ARB to see what they did, apparently this was the 2nd time it has happened , but you are right about the ford experience they had a loan car for the whole time and looked after them very well .
I have a PX3 Ranger and have had a chassis replacement and engine replacement all under warranty with the same loan car or rental car treatment as you received. Ford even paid my canopy manufacturer to remove and replace after the chassis replacement so that there were no problems with the wiring as well. Yes it’s worrying to have problems but I had complete contact from ford Australia and from the dealership here in Brisbane as well. I am not a ford man but at the beginning of covid I purchased the Ranger for a steel as a demo so that’s how I came to own one. It has been all over qld and the NT towing as well. Happy motoring.
It's great to hear about your positive experience with Ford's customer service! It's reassuring to know that they took care of you and ensured that your issues were resolved promptly and efficiently. Happy motoring to you too, and thanks for sharing your story!
I had the same issue with my 2004 Jeep Cherokee in 2005. Jeep Australia got me and the family off Frazer Island, back to Brisbane. Replaced the motor and the turbo over the following 6-8 week. In the mean time we were given a hire car. The car was purchase through Albion Chrysler Jeep Dodge. Great after sales service
The ranger V6 engine is a descendent of the 3L Lion found in Land Rover Discoveries - they have a hard time holding cranks together in those so nice to see they have upgraded the failure mode in the latest generation😆
Upgraded crankshaft in these since 2018. It is and always was a Ford engine. Only used in JLR products after Ford bought JLR. Same engine was used in the Ford Territory and they had a good reputation.
@@colinboyd7779yeah the 2.7 ended up being a fairly good engine once the oil pump housing issue was sorted, the later 3l not so much at first. Haven’t heard to much bad about them since the updates when they went into the F150, but they didn’t last long in that and the option was dropped after only a couple of years. I think the Aussie ranger will end up being one of the bigger applications for this engine so will be interesting to see how they go with time
@@WestAussieDashcams I've got one of the revised crank high output, 225kw / 700nm V6 engines in a Discovery 5. I closely monitor 4 Land Rover sites from around the world every day taking particular note of engine failures and have never heard of a failure with the revised crank.
The crank failures are something like 1 percent or less but it’s still a concern . The really annoying thing is the splitting intake manifolds. One thing I’ll say is that my disco 4 sdv6 feels more lively than my v6 Ranger
Few yaers ago had simular experience with an Amarok....was out in Angola with one...snapped a timming belt....bent valves and all them goodies We maneged to get it on the back of a truck from a nearby nature reserve drove 800kms through the night to the Kenyan border...towed it about 300k into Kenya and VW flew a mechanic from Upington in Sputh Africa to the Kenyan dealership....took the parts of a demo model in Kenya got us going agian Btw...we had some off the first Amaroks in South Africa when they where first launched here back in about 2009 ish
Turbo pipe to intercooler, split pipe and faulty clamps. My mate has had happen twice in his new Next Gen Ranger , after the second episode the dealership gave him a spare pipe & clamps to have as we live in regional nsw and help isn’t always around the corner . I’m guessing my mates not alone with this issue .
The oil pressure light didnt come on because there was enough oil in the sump the oil pump to pick it up and turn the light off which is usually around 5 pounds but not enough pressure to lubricant the engine
It's great to hear Ford have lifted their game as I've had that experience in 2006/7 and it was a very different experience to yours. Eg yes you can have a hire car, but things like thinking Esperance and Kalgoorlie are a suburb apart, etc. Well done on sharing how well Ford have improved their customer service.
This isn’t the first video I have seen or heard someone saying that the V6 has had this happen. I think there are a few videos out there that highlights this issue
My wife and i were interested in one of these to do our first lap. Im curious to know other than the engine letting go what do you think of the v6 and its capabilities? We are looking at a 3t van but didn't want to go the 4 cylinder option given we'd be pushing the engine to its limit for quite some time pulling that weight.
My V6 @ 1700kms blew a turbo (bearing). It started screaming. They replaced the turbo but couldn't find what caused it. Since then I have done 15000 kms with no issues. They think it was just a factory turbo fault. Ford were awesome to deal with. They gave me a loan vehicle (the service managers Ranger) and paid for our accommodation (camp fees) as we were full time living in a caravan. Service was 100%. I love my V6 Ranger but that was a big hick up at the start.
Met a diesel mac whilst on a hunting trip. He was contracted to maintain all the vehicles for a company that owns a series of game/ hunting farms in South Africa, mostly cat earth moving equipment and of course 70 series Land Cruisers with 1HZs and 1VDs. He has been a Ford man his whole life, his dad was a ford man. Until he bought a Ford Ranger 3.2 it almost cost him a contract because it broke down on the way to a remote jobsite to do a repair. Needless to say he now owns two Hiluxes. 😂
I had a bloke rock up next to me in Smoky bay SA after driving from mission beach QLD. He unhitched his caravan and noticed all this oil on his drawbar. He was baffled so asked me what I thought. Checked the dipstick and nothing. We had a look and it was the oil line off the turbo. He had no warning nothing. Had to get it towed to Ceduna or port Lincoln, can’t remember, and the dealer said it’d take 4 weeks to fix.
Helps when you have a huge social media following. I also noted you had a sticker on your phone holder on eating Rams, seems like the ford has trouble getting home .
On fords when oil pressure is low a message comes up on the MID and alarms go off, sometimes it'll turn the engine off, so yes i suspect it still had oil pressure from the pump area, but obviously not enough oil going around.
Glad you had good service from Ford although is it not better to not need any service because your brand new vehicle does not break. Had a Ford Ranger for 7 years not a days trouble. Sold at 126000km and the new owner blew the turbo at 130000km😮
Ford did the right thing because you are Ruben from DMW with a big social media presence, us common folk most likely would not get the same treatment.
They will treat everyone the same , it’s how you treat and speak to them , treat them like humans , and they will go the extra mile

Very common problem, the turbo return pipe, they fail after 10,000-30,000km. Had it happen to me already but took it to ford immediately after I spotted the oil leak.
That is terrible quality ...80k vehicle with pipes that crack in 10k 🤯

Concerning though that there's no low oil pressure warning at all coming up on the dash, difference between saving an engine/trip and your experience.
my thoughts exactly. about the service. generally shit service for the average punter, once you drive off the lot.
No way they would be as happy to help, I reckon if you tell them you saw the oil drip and kept driving they would turn around and say no warranty
You know the answer to that question
see my comment above, and I am a nobody.
Shout out to the Y62 and 300 series saving the day
My turbo line went at 8000klm towing a caravan. Ford recovery were great but can't get my head around metal fatigue on return line after 8000klm?
Hi mate, It only takes a very small amount of PSI only a pound or 2 to turn the oil pressure warning light off, you REALLY need a capillary oil gauge that will show you the exact oil pressure ALL THE TIME. Those dash light indicators come on as the engine goes BANG, and that's way too late. I've been a mechanic all my life and an NRMA roadside patrolman for 17yrs and I've seen this again and again and again. I've said to people before, did the oil light come on, and they always said, YES, after the engine went bang and I'm talking 100kph and it goes bang. Take care. Seeya Rob
Good info. Thank you very much!
The sump has a small amount crank case pressure which blow oil up the line once once a crack is formed and engine is up in revs
memories like this You, your family and friends will talk about FOREVER . that's living...
Cheers
How good are the RFDS pilots having to land in those conditions
The new Ranger is more advanced in all aspects and that includes catastrophic failures. FORD spirit!
Ahh its nice to see Ford didnt change much from the Land Rover days on this V6.
You think they would have used all their failings to improve it.
Not just old cruisers
Good to know both my 20yo toyotas have oil level sensors to avoid this type of failure being catastrophic to the engine!!
That's really a hassle mate. Hope it won;t happen again.
I have a 2018 BT50. Same engine as the 2018 ford ranger/Everest. Egr cooler failed and popped the engine. I was in sale victoria when engine popped. Being a ford engine,
A representative from pakenham ford which are right next to pakenham mazda drove a hire car out to us within 2 hours of me making the phone call.
That's a cheap as engine swap give me your dealer
Same as any other manufacturer when out of warranty you Neville
Yes but Ford isn't exactly known for reliability. I've heard a few times now that they were bought in bulk for fleet vehicles and then down the track had to get replaced with Toyota's. I'm not even a Toyota fan, I'll just buy what suits my needs but I don't think they've proven themselves yet and the chances of something going wrong as soon as it gets out of warranty is probably pretty high, nobody knows yet, only time will tell. I'm just sharing my opinion

I believe the newer landrovers had the upgraded engine, so the crank shaft issue was a non issued after 2010-11.
@@JSH083 That’s not good, not like they’ve not had time to fix the defects. There’s some good reading on forum’s about the cause & remedies , but no definitive answer. Fortunately they don’t build aircraft.

@catchawakeup6411 Sorry, I think it was one of the American F truck models, not the Broncos. One has the same Lion V6 diesel.

Even when you walk in and tell them everyone on the forums has had the same problem...
One question, did you fit a catch can, if this blocked it would raise sump pressure.
Down at Leongatha they have had a couple of the first v6s had to have the engines swaped
The old “do you know who I am” has a thing or two to do with the service you were given by Ford mate. Us regulars would be fighting months and months to get anything.
Mt Isa - Toowoomba 3000kms????? Did they travel through cairns???
You left out RACQ Ultimate Care, you mentioned Ultra Care which comes second best. They certainly DO cover towing a caravan (I have used this twice) and the last time from Laura to Cooktown, caravan was towed and the car put on a flat bed truck. They have reduced the number of kms I think but it stands at 200km for car and caravan to be towed for free to the nearest RACQ depot.
Bonnet up on Ford ranger is a common sight up here in nt West qld. That's why everyone drives a Toyota in these parts. Not fun stuck on the side of the track in remote areas.
Ford really need to sort out their quality issues but also why the hell would you attempt a trip like that with an oil leak!
Took ages to get the part, I have a 2016 ranger too and I love it too.
Hi. i have just bought a v6 Wildtrak over hear in NZ.
Man, lucky you. When I went to Ford with an intermittent crank no start, they played dumb and said they never heard of it coz a fault code was not present.
I did a bit of research and found it was the crank sensor.
Hopefully that has been resolved now mate. Thank you for watching!
My PX 3 with 30k on odometer is doing exactly the same....crank and no start when hot an have to wait 20 to 30 mins to cool down then it will start ...not throwing codes or engine light.. I was told it would be a 4 month wait to get it looked at by the ford dealership.
Did FORD replace the crank sensor or just tighten it...apparently, they can come loose.. 🤯

It is always best to think hard when buying a vehicle. You should feel 100% sure about it first rather than buying on impulse. :)
Rangers don't have ad blue, only wildtrak x & everest
You ask about experience of support with other vehicles. I had a breakdown of an Ineos Grenadier (a failed pressure sensor). Response from Ineos Assist was first rate. I was in outback Queensland. They had a flat bed tow truck to me within 2 hours. Took vehicle AND van to Toowoomba. Covered hotel accomodation, hire car and eventually a flight back to Melbourne and then a return flight to collect (they offered to deliver to Melbourne at no charge). That was pretty good roadside Assistance from Ineos (included in purchase price)

Mitsubishi are great like that as well. Maybe look up “worst diesel engine ever?” Ford lion rover motor.
You must be a sado masochist. both are unreliable money pits
No power.
I thought LR fixed the turbo return line issue? My D4 is just approaching 240k km so hopefully I’m past the crank stage but you never know . 🤞

Look on the bright side, the chassis and undercarriage are now rust proofed by engine oil.
They had the same engine but the new Rangers have a revisioned version.(At least Ford said so)
The old version(Ford Lion/Rover TDv6) destroyed the bearing shells or had cracking crankshafts(There are only 4!
Ford will always try to put it on others, arb would have had nothing to do with it
Good on ya, interested as it’s meant to be the same block etc as the Landrover Lion V6 3.0 diesel and Landrover certainly aren’t as giving !!

We had the same oil line replaced by Ford after they found a split when changing the gearbox.
Few yaers ago had simular experience with an Amarok....was out in Angola with one...snapped a timming belt....bent valves and all them goodies
We maneged to get it on the back of a truck from a nearby nature reserve drove 800kms through the night to the Kenyan border...towed it about 300k into Kenya and VW flew a mechanic from Upington in Sputh Africa to the Kenyan dealership....took the parts of a demo model in Kenya got us going agian
Btw...we had some off the first Amaroks in South Africa when they where first launched here back in about 2009 ish
Im from South Africa
Toyota driver here watching on my couch with popcorn 😅
nothing better than a toyota..... i make my living a triton at a time and get the cream from toymotas.
on the couch? Is your Toyota being repaired at the dealership??? Relax, just a bit of humour 😂
You could always enhance your popcorn experience by doing a search on Toyota engine failures. Lots of vids to choose from.
Toyota 😎👍🏻
Exactly same here just confirming why I stick with my fte cruisers
Turbo pipe to intercooler, split pipe and faulty clamps. My mate has had happen twice in his new Next Gen Ranger , after the second episode the dealership gave him a spare pipe & clamps to have as we live in regional nsw and help isn’t always around the corner . I’m guessing my mates not alone with this issue .
The oil pressure light didnt come on because there was enough oil in the sump the oil pump to pick it up and turn the light off which is usually around 5 pounds but not enough pressure to lubricant the engine
Hmm, these modern vehicles and vans seem like a barrel of fun.
Hopefully those issues are resolved. Thanks mate!
I'm so disappointed in my Dmax, first problem ever had just occurred this week being a leaking egr cooling unit, she's only done 292,000 km.
If you still get one after this video you’re an idiot!
I live here in Florida and i had that issue as well.
Wow that’s good to hear because I want one !
I’m in the vehicle industry, have lots of friends who have had Hiluxes with catastrophic engine failure, very poor fuel/kms ration.
I just brought mine and I’m so relieved to hear that ford are finally doing the right thing… GO FORD
If there was a warning it could have been remedied, right. Thanks mate!
Thanks for sharing that @shaungranger2166
Glad you had good service from Ford although is it not better to not need any service because your brand new vehicle does not break. Had a Ford Ranger for 7 years not a days trouble. Sold at 126000km and the new owner blew the turbo at 130000km😮
Holden Colorado driver here with a Smile on my face. 😊
