Stuff like this is why I live competitive in both singles and VGC; strategies are being developed all the time, so even when in particular idea seems to not be very good, it does well because people don’t expect it. Then that idea is used more, and a counter meta develops. Then a counter to the counter meta develops, and it keeps going. It keeps the game fresh and always makes sure one concrete strategy won’t destroy everything
Yeah…. It’s a shame then that VGC in recent years decides to completely change the format every two months or so. I too love to see meta development and reaction. But oh well
Loved when Freezai said "It's Freezin' time" and not only hit a blizzard without snow but also freeze the foe. Truly the most Pokemon trainer ever Also random fact, Perth is one of the most isolated cities on Earth.
This man just walked into one of the most prestigious and brutal events in video gaming history, achieved a 64% win rate, and then said "meh, could be better." You gotta give yourself some credit here, Freezai. I love how big your goals are and I support them but you have to congratulate yourself a bit along the way. Phenomenal job!
It's just a regionals my guy. It's most certainly not "one of the most prestigious events in video gaming history", doesn't even touch the top 250, let alone "one of the most".
Fun fact: Championship point requirement is different from region to region. For example, Australian players only need 200 points rather than 300 due to how few events we get.
Making day 2 in any of these tournaments is still an incredible feat, and don't let that bring you down! I started competing in the TCG recently, and so far haven't made a top cut for any of the 3 tournaments I've played. I've gotten very close and know how frustrating it can be to get that far and fall at the very least hurdle, but being able to make top cut against some of the best players in the world is a truly incredible feat. So making doing that in your first two official tournaments is OUTSTANDING. That being said, congrats on the placement, and good luck in your next one!
These videos are so cool! The narrating and scripting is great. I'm totally invested in this journey of yours. Seeing the redemption of you going through a major low and then coming through with confidence is amazing. All you needed to do is remember that you're on a journey to be a pokemon master. And we're just in season one! Keep on doing your best man, this is great content
Congrats! I also went to that tournament, it was my first ever regional. Didn't make the top cut but still had fun nonetheless. Keep up the good content!
The crushing defeat of losing on the bubble is something all players of many games experience, and it sucks, but you did really freakin good for your second event bro. That takes most people a far greater time to accomplish, and I hope you can only use that defeat to grow and get better ✌️
I know I'm late but good job man. I know that feeling really well. Happened to me this last year with regional for wrestling. Be happy you made it to the second day while probably hundreds were unable to
Great effort. I watched this one on stream, and I was so excited to see a Lilligant team winning it. My favourite pokemon, but not one I'd ever expected to see do well in competetive.
Stalls newfound ability to adapt to battlefield where it’s usually considered bad in without stuff like evasion, it makes a man like it at least slightly more. As for my opinion on stall I somewhat like it mainly because it means that Pokémon with immense strength but crippled by their low speed get a chance to shine.
This whole arc is the most anime thing I've ever seen. Comes in strong, shocks everybody at the tournament as this first time VGC player somehow finishes 9-1. Second tournament it comes down to a 1-1 match that determines if you go to day 2 or not. You lose...but your plot armor means you just barely make it to top 32 anyways and thus advance to day 2.
Freezai did you go to any interesting attractions in Vancouver? I have a trip planned there in June and would love to see some places to check out. A vlog would be an awesome way to look back on these trips you take to tournaments because it's about more than just the tournament results
It depends a lot on what you're interested in and how far you're willing to go. There's a lot of stuff you can get to relatively quickly on transit, but certain types of attraction (Capilano suspension bridge, skiing, etc) require somewhat significant travel time. If you're willing to head out to the University of British Columbia campus (a 20ish minute bus ride from several SkyTrain stations, so pretty easy to get to), then in addition to the campus you could check out the Museum of Anthropology, and if it's the right season you can check out the botanical garden, Naitobe garden and rose garden, if that's something you like. Near downtown is gastown and old chinatown. Science world is near there if you have kids with you or think it would interesting. You can take the SkyTrain into Richmond and its many malls if that's your thing too :p. Plenty of other potential things as well, but these are a few examples.
Losing the first game and needing to take the next two puts a ton of pressure on you. I know this from my experience trying out best of 3s in the yugioh card game.
Starting everyone at effectively 6:30 am because of the daylight savings switchover is just proof that the tournament organizers hate everyone and it's personal. :D Congrats on at least doing alright. Tournaments are exhausting affairs where your first opponent is limited attention/energy. IMO this is one reason to maybe not play stall; the mental energy and time that takes are precious resources. You did alright though!
"I washed my face in the poorly designed Vancouver convention center bathroom" was honestly so funny
casually insulting architecture while documenting something completely different, you love to see it
I know right? I couldn't help but go "the shaaaaade" out loud, haha
Big Stall™ really is expanding to vgc too, no one is safe now
HOLD THE LINE!

I love when Freezai said, "It's Freezing Time", and proceeded to Freeze all his opponents with Ice Beam
Freeze Dry*
Truly one of the moments of all time
Truly a moment
When he said "I blundered" and the opponent replied with "agency agency" I shed a tear.
@@aquashowdown Can't believe after that, when he lost, his opponent said "VGC was cool, wanna be added to a GC"
I expect an evaluation of the bathroom of every tournament you attend from here out. The Yokohama bathroom is probably going to be top tier though.
How good were the Orlando bathrooms actually?

cool fact, I didn't know that
No, perth is not the most isolated city on Earth.
what about Longyearbyen?
Honolulu is the most isolated “big city” in the world, but it depends on your definition of city
@@Jaxck77 One of, one of the most isolated lol
Really enjoying Freezai's shounen tournament arc.
THANK YOU FOR ARTICULATING MY FEELINGS ABOUT THIS SERIES, that really is it!!!

Bro that depends on what your standards are and what you expect from yourself
Winners never feel like they did enough
this isntt even in the top 100 most prestigious events

From randbats to Smogon lore to VGC vlogs, you never disapoint
Dondozo tatsugiri is just very hard to pilot in a long tournament especially when you are trying to stall
