@@letran879 Its a SIngles format on Cart, you can have up to 6 mons but you can only bring 3 into battle. Its almost a completely different deal compared to the singles format we are used to seeing around but usually whats good in OU is also good in BSS.
this is why they nerfed mimikyu as well. basically anytime a singles orientated nerf happens, you can bet it was a nightmare for bss. i’m pretty sure skeledirge only exists to hard counter zacian because of how dominant it was.

It is quite crazy that whenever a steel/ghost type pokemon has been introduced into a game/generation, it has had an impact on the competitive meta. For both Aegislash and Gholdengo though, it is in part due to their insane abilities and great stats.
aegislash is one of my favourite mons i've ever used in competitive. it was on two of my three worlds teams, with two completely different sets. it's so versatile. the mind game of king's shield as well feels like it always turns whatever your opponent wants to do into a 50/50 for them. like a passive sucker punch mind game. i can't agree more, aegislash is perfect.

Aegislash is such a cool Pokemon... Its so overpowered, but requires tactical knowledge of what you're actually doing in order to work right. If you don't know its playstyle and you give it a lot of speed you're just going to make it weaker. Alternatively, if you don't use your attacks carefully you leave yourself vulnerable. Its just so cool to me how it requires more thought than most other Pokemon to utilize all its strengths correctly instead of just maxing out speed and one of the attack stats and spamming powerful recoil moves with swords dance.
Even though Steel gained a a resistance to and super effectiveness against Fairy, I'm convinced Aegislash is THE reason why Steel lost its Ghost and Dark resistances.
My first playthrough with sword and shield was basically Aegislash vs the game. Yeah it got nerfed for the competitive scene in Swsh. But it's the best sweeper in playthroughs. The fact that u get a honedge just after reaching hammerlocke in early game is insane. U get eviolite for doublade and then in the 4th gym, u get a dusk stone easily. And then, u have the 2nd most broken pokemon (1st being zacian) in swsh for playthroughs.
Gen 6 did also introduce a fantastic counter for King’s Shield Aegislash: Contrary Malamar. That -2 on contact just became a +2. Even base 150 defence didn’t want to take a +2 Night Slash.

It should have remained 150, nerfing him in other ways like reducing kings shield’s attack drop was enough, heck, remove the attack drop entirely or something instead of changing its base stats
I played one competitive game of gen 6 back in the navy and I got 6-0'd by an Aegislash. It became my 2nd favorite pokemon immediately even after the nerf. .....#buffflygon
I stepped away from Pokémon for a long time when aegislash got banned from fan groups that played singles. Not too hung up about it though. I love vgc now and I don’t think I’ll ever try to play singles competitively ever again ❤
Aegislash is my favorite pokemon EVER, gameplay and lore wise. I think that’s why it irked me when they spat on him in sword and shield. As the true sword and shield pokemon I’m glad he’s getting the respect he deserves here.
I ended up using aegislash as a counter to mega kangaskan because kind shield would drop its attack and aura sphere or sacred sword could deal massive damage in return. With the appropriate type berry it could two shot mega kangaskan without much threat.

no, what you mentioned just results in buffing his defenses and nerfing his offenses, the point was to nerf the pokemon in all regards and not just offensively. Not just that, an hp buff would effectively result in tankier substitutes for aegislash overall too, buffing one of his playstyles significantly

I'm sorry but can someone go further in-depth on why it dropped off I gen 8? 140 atk/def is still amazing (more than dragapult), and blacephalon was already present in gen 7. Plus, with a limited dex it should have been even stronger.
no pursuit means other ghost types, like blacephalon, gengar and dragapult were running around unchecked making it harder for aegislash to do his thing. not just that, but both urshifu forms were introduced and dark-shifu was dominating the meta for quite a long time. both these pokemon were able to go through protect (king's shield) with their signature ability and threaten aegislash in a way no other pokemon had been able to do in singles before. Combined with the reduced bulk and the existence of melmetal as a bulkier pokemon made it fall through the meta quite a bit while still being a very good pokemon
@@zackfaircc5624 Kingambit is one of the main pokemon I think makes Ghost spam not as easy to spam similar to what Yveltal was doing in Gen 8 Ubers. Gholdengo and Skeledirge are good not just because of Ghost STAB but their defensive utility similar to Gen 4 Giratina and Lunala
aegislash is my fav pokemon, when it first got introduced I liked it, didn't know what it could do I just liked it, didn't know how broken it was either.
What would be really cool would be a regional variant that swapped between physical/ special (and possibly speed) based on the category of move it used (Physical/Special/Status). That way it would always have a weakness, and would encourage the use of mixed attackers to hit its weak side.
But it would also be an offensive monster. Always being able to hit hard, since it has both special and physical moves (it would banish Chansey/Blissey from any tier it was available in), with ridiculous stats in both physical and special attack. Not to mention, it would probably be it's own best counter, since it would be by far the most effective mixed attacker with its ability to swap stats. That's never a good thing
@@KartonRealista2 I feel like its low base speed (and possible lack of King's Shield) would hold it back a lot. Although priority moves could definitely make it too good if it got both Physical and Special priority.

Pokemon Y was my very first pokemon game. I nearly flawlessly Greninja'd my way through the fighting type gym until Greninja didn't 1-shot Hawlucha. Hawlucha then proceeded to swords dance and sweep my entire team...except my seemingly unassuming Honedge. Because Hawlucha was sweeping me with fighting moves and Honedge is a ghost type, it was immune. This allowed me to fully build swords dances and 2 shot Hawlucha for the dub. From that point forward, Honedge/Doublade/Aegislash was one of my favorite, go-to Pokémon for battles and in general, and she hardcore carried my ass. The fact that it was the most OP Pokémon essentially ever makes me have even more respect for it.
I dont think aegislash nerfs for Sw&Sh didnt changed things a lot because 140 is still A LOT as for king shield maybe but it still can have some use for the vgc/dealing with some of the uber tier mons

I don't care about the nerfs, I didn't care about his past Ubers status back when it had it. Stance Change is conceptually one of the coolest (albeit overpowered) abilities in Pokemon.
Aegislash is my favorite pokemon and hearing these nerfs makes me sad, like I was hoping for it to get a G-Max form in Gen 8. It's also one of the reasons I don't like gen 8 or 9 competitively.
If you think of Aegislash's two forms stats combined, it theoretically has 150 base attack, defense, special attack, and special defense depending on situations. Used optimally, this thing is tied with Arceus in terms of base stats. That's downright obscene. Sure it'll never actually be perfectly optimal with that spread but the fact it has that potential is absurd.

140 is still a lot, but it did lose 40 BST effectively, which is pretty massive.
All this while also having one of the best shinies ever created. Few mons get that treatment.

Dropped from Arceus-equivalent to Mewtwo-equivalent.
Aegislash is my favorite pokemon and hearing these nerfs makes me sad, like I was hoping for it to get a G-Max form in Gen 8. It's also one of the reasons I don't like gen 8 or 9 competitively.
Aegislash is one of the six Pokémon I would have if I were champion! Elite S tier mon.
My favourite Ghost/Steel. Way cooler than Gholdengo.
If you think of Aegislash's two forms stats combined, it theoretically has 150 base attack, defense, special attack, and special defense depending on situations. Used optimally, this thing is tied with Arceus in terms of base stats. That's downright obscene. Sure it'll never actually be perfectly optimal with that spread but the fact it has that potential is absurd.
