You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Watching old Huey Lewis videos really gives you an appreciation of the budgetary considerations studios were under back in the day. "Guy's, we got the SAG extras for the whole day, we got similar sets, we got wardrobe, let's knock out 'New Drug' and 'Happy to be Stuck With You' today."

"I Want a New Drug," with its killer guitar riff (courtesy of Chris Hayes), is the album's centerpiece - not only is it the greatest antidrug song ever written, it's also a personal statement about how the band has grown up, shucked off their bad-boy image and learned to become more adult. Hayes' solo on it is incredible and the drum machine used, but not credited, gives not only "I Want a New Drug" but most of the album a more consistent backbeat than any of the previous albums - even though Bill Gibson is still a welcome presence.
@@ol4037 No, not really. It was really my brother who got me a res at Dorisa. The 80’s were just natural. And it was way more conservative than it is now. Nowadays people are too focused on the cringe and too scared to be cringy while it only results in more cringe cause you can’t uphold to contain a unnatural attitude or behavior that goes in against natural feelings of confidence and even slight inconvenience. Nowadays there are also too many malicious forces being active to scam everything considered weak and having its guard down. Considering kindness for weakness nowadays is gaining more popularity among the ignorant ones (that also means among the ones who consider themselves to be highly intellectual).

I just love the look the dude gives Huey Lewis when he sings to the girl in the front row at 3:02

0:59 landscape has something magical, reminds me of Sundays mornings. Beautiful in a weird sense.
0:44 MOST 80S THING EVER

A girl on a bike ? Oh, the leg warmers? Yah, you don't see pastel tights and leg warmers much any more...

Man that girl is fire
Every single thing from the 80s just out 80s the next.
I wish I could've heard him live. I really think his music was so quintessential to the 80s
I MISS THE 80'S!
Reminds me of a bar I worked in the early 80's in San Antonio. And a girl..
Chicks in the 80’s were smoking! 💯
This song just randomly popped in my head today for some reason. Still just as fun of a song to listen to after all these years.
What a perfect song
Any Huey song is great while driving, turn up the volume real loud & you just may find people singing with you.... or they'll think you're just crazy. Let's go Huey!
Huey Lewis has great driving songs ! 👍⛽😎🎵🔊
Having a HLATN morning. Just found out he is having hearing problems. May God heal and bless this national treasure.
GHOSTBUSTERS!!!
This group had hit after hit back in the day. I miss the 1980s!
"Sadness covers me like a blanket, tuck me in let me die. I realize that I'm never going to get to hear a Huey Lewis song for the first time again" - Kahn Souphanousinphone
That BASS 👏👏👏👏
Huey Lewis & The News are a pure rock & roll band. They sound fantastic in concert and are great guys as well. No lip syncing and no "autotune". They acapella as good as any of them, too.
The Drug.... Is life.
Yesssssss
As a teenager, I was watching this video on TV with my dad. He was a loud dresser and he loved the red suit. He decided to have one custom-made for $500. We buried him in it in 1992.
Sorry for your loss. At the same time though this made me smile. Your dad sounded like a brilliant man with an equally brilliant fashion sense!! He was buried in style
Your dad was a badass for doing that.
thats beautiful
Awesome.. He did his own thing!
Yea good times for sure ,excellent band ,huey, the best
