- Retired U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Scott Benfield gives us a lesson about the helicopter he flew during tours in Iraq and Afghanistan: the AH-1W Super Cobra. Lt. Col. Benfield is from Hickory, and was instrumental in the museum's acquisition of this helicopter. This was filmed on the ramp at Hickory Regional Airport, North Carolina, location of the Hickory Aviation Museum. The spectators in the video are all Museum volunteers who lead tours of the aircraft for visitors. The museum partners with the National Museum of Naval Aviation, in Pensacola, Florida. Quick question I got a panel from a seller apparently it's from a usmc cobra but its glossy grey like it has lacquer on the paint. Did cobras have gloss grey paint?
Best time of my life Maintaining them and the Huey. Active duty with HMLA-169 FROM 2005 to 2013.

Scott, when you did carry the AIM-9, would you get symbology on the hud over the target, or did you just hear a tone? Also, did you every evac operators on the ammo door or skids when in a pinch?
Yes for the symbology on the hud and tone for the AIM-9 but No for the evac. They don’t train to do that. That would only be dire critical situations. The Cobras always have the Hueys there for something like that.

I expected a lot more from thes Super Cobras...but its not as advanced as i expected..Why so much optical sight systems..? 2 types of projectiles to fire...Rockets ore guided missles...its a dissapointment..to know that the great Super Cobra is just a normal Attack Aircraft with limited capabilities. i expected Head Tracking automated search and Destroy system..enemy identification system...auto lock hold tracking device..Jammers..Laser dazzlers..electronic self protection system...auto search multiple line up tracking system..it has nothing of this...
Is this Modern Warfare..it looks cool..no doubt about it..but its out dated..its not as advanced as i tought...
