A lot of good memories with those birds in 169 and 303. Best sound to feel in your chest.
All I want is 169 !. HMA 169 !. No ATTACK LIKE A LIGHT ATTACK !!!
Semper Fi bro !
Don't be sad about it, AH-1Z is here to serve for a new generation!
watching them salute whilst desperately not falling on their arse is gold
A proud bird retiring.....Semper Fidelis
I'm going to miss that classic Huey sound
lol the Marines still fly ACTUAL HUEYS...
Me to
God i'm gonna miss that amazing sound the ah-1w makes :(
Those "kids" weren't even alive yet when I was at Camp Pendleton working on these birds. God I feel old now.
David Cole Semper Fi brother, the game has Changed Bust a Marine Corps spirit stayed the same.
these birds did it's job for a long time and did it well
are they easy to maintain in the field? can you jury rig to get them flying?
Keith Muir a short answer is no. It takes about 10 hrs of maintenance time for every 1 hour of flight time. I used to fly these in the marines and I’d have zero idea how to maintain one. “Jury rig” wouldn’t work but with professional maintenance, yes.
I'm with you brother. I was in during the late 70's at HMA-169 and HMA-369, working on AH-1J's, got out, went back into the reserves (HMLA-775) early 90's, worked on AH-1W's (and went to Iraq with them). Sad to see the Whiskey's go.. :-(
The legend flies away, never to be seen again...
I was there that day. My boy Wilkins the Plane Captain. Many Men and Women devoted their lives to repairing these AC.
God Bless the Death Wop.
At least on February 8 I got one last video of one flying by my house. I’m going to really miss the AH-1W, such a sweet and awesome helo. It will be missed.
Nice hover Capt Houser ;) "Any Time, Anywhere!"
that is one beautiful bird
I'm in LOVE
that machine growls every once in a while
Great video. Going to start my tribute build to my AH-1W soon. I already have the inbox review done.
I never saw an ah1w with those exhaust vents from the AH1z
Jesus so best engine sound
They will be doing this soon with my old "shitters" (a.k.a. CH-53E). The "Echo," as we referred to them back in the day, is still a kick-ass helicopter!!! Can easily out lift the CH-47 ("shithooks). Suck it Army!!! OOOORAAAH!!! HMH-461 (1987-1992).
Respect for the Corps, however, I’m an old army helo guy...gladly take the AH-64, UH-60, or CH-47 anyday, anytime, anywhere. But....Mad respect for any and all Marine Helo pilots!
Such a sound❤
What they didn't show. Was the Huey launch afterwards to bring the Pilots home from the boneyard !!! Hueys forever !!!
The World's Finest US Marine Aviation. Semper Fi
I want a Cobra. And Ford Mustang.
That sound will be missed!!!
Loved this!
Such a distinct sound.
Super
excellent bargain for our FAB in brazil
*Army
We're gonna have to wait a lot longer for those AH-1Ws to get over here in Brazil, assuming Lula's government doesn't veto the purchase of weapons to our armed forces.
They did that with the Centauro IIs.
Went to combat with those snakes. Beautiful ladies of combat.
would this be a good attack helicopter for a small country with low logistical capabilities such as an independent Scotland would be?
No, stick with Little Birds and Jet Rangers you bum
Are you dumb? Little birds are complete different than attack Helis..
The Australian Army could certainly make use of the AH-1W. The current Tiger AH needs replacing. Hope our Government finally comes to its senses and buys Apaches. The AH-1W would compliment the Apache and Blackhawk fleet very well.
Aren't the 1W horsies airframes not upgraded to stage 1Z !?
Classic ah 1 cobra sound was much better
good chance someone will buy them out of storage or get donated
It's gonna be a good change
Sorry but what are the Marines gonna use from now on?
AH-1Z Viper
@@brandonvessell4659 Ah, I see... Excellent, relieved to see a good platform not going to waste! Thanks.
The reason the AH-1W's are being retired as they have no place in the modern battlefield. Their self defense systems are poor and lack many modern upgrades. The original plan was to re manufacture many of them from the AH-1W to the AH-1Z configuration but the cost differences between a re-manufactured model and a new build aircraft were small. The USMC decided to just purchase mostly new build helicopters as the benefits were greater. Now these aircraft will be sold or donated to select countries. Some will live on in the hands of American military contractors.
I noticed that they removed the gun from the chin turret
Welcome to Chile???
Why they don't sell them to other countries
We'll take some
Bummer!! :'(
How do these compare to Apaches?
The Apache is a more modern gunship and is it better
The Apache may be a better (more modern) platform but it is missing two key things that every chopper in the Corps has. A Marine crew and MARINES on the tail boom.
The reliability of AH-1W's far exceeded the Apache - anytime & anywhere!
Not being in the military, all I can say is that my understanding is that the fact that Cobras were marinized against water corrosion ironically made them much easier to maintain in desert environments than Apaches. Apaches were able to do bigger load outs, but they'll pretty much lose that advantage when the Vipers come onboard.
what is the difference between this and the replacement?
Nearly everything. 4 bladed main rotor, new avionics, new targeting system, bigger stub wings, more commonality with UH 1Y- pilot can sit either in the front or back seat- longbow radar could be mounted on one stub wing...
The AH-1Z Viper is the replacement?
Replacement doesn’t sound NEARLY as cool. But time marches on. Hard to believe that’s the last Whiskey.
thnks!
Always a bummer seeing a trusty girl go to the bone yard.
What a shame 😭
Another proud American warhorse off to the big Wagner concert in the sky...
Ill take it off their hands! 😁
can I have one please I won't tell anyone
Did they fight in Somalia?
это вайпер? у вайпера 4 лопасти несущего винта
If they can put the AH-1W's on the boneyard, why don't they sell it to us then so now we have our own attack helicopter (Foreign Countries)
Whiskeys sound so much better than the zulus but the zulus are so much easier to maintain lol
🤘🤙😎😎😎
Sell this or donate it to the Philippines because our country need attack helicopters to fight the terrorist here.
Show. .
Boy that bird is jewel in small airforces, its sad why u.s government dont just donate or sold it in they're small allied countrys?
That's the plan. These helicopters will now be sold or donated to other countries
Dont send them to the bone yard sell them to the Philippines
we need those equioment to fight terrorist and insurgent to our country
King Solomon Catral Isn't Duerte allied with china?
Us senators blocking military sale tomthe philippines
