I know we want to read about characters with anti-nazi ideas, but it was super dangerous to express these ideas in real life, unfortunately.
Ran Kasai yk honestly I think that she wrote it really goddamn well for it being ya, like I think it was ya for the sake of reaching a broader audience but it was fairly on the dark side for ya, with pretty tastefully done scenes that still portrayed her character good, but still kept it in the ya category you know? Idk if I’m making any sense
sometimes i wonder if cindy's internal dialogue when reading angst she likes is like... "yasss rip my heart out of my chest. grind it under your heel -- no, put it in a blender! BLEND ITTT!! pour it out into the gutter!! i am LOVING the PAIN"
Sirius Black is definitely one of the more interesting Harry Potter characters. I'm curious about how you'll feel about Order of the Phoenix when you get to it, because Harry has extra angst in that one. I personally enjoy it because I think his behavior makes sense when you consider the things that have happened to him, but I've heard other people say that it is their least favorite because it is so dark compared to the earlier books.
I used to think he was whinny as fuck, but then I got older and I started to get why he was so pissy all the time. It's not like he didn't have a bunch of very good reasons, he had a LOT in his head (*nudgenudge*) and then there's just plain hormones. It was a sucky time all around for him.
Yeah, I was confused when that one came out and so many people complained about how angry Harry was in it. I was like, "Well........YEAH." Given the events he'd been through at that point, anger made a lot of sense.
Back from when I read it it was a least favorite not so much for it being dark (I really liked how dark each book slowly got) but more for Harry himself. I completely understand why that had to happen for his character, and I do like that his trauma is addressed within the book since he deals with abuse and extreme pressure all the time. Especially for the time the book came out I don't know if that kind of perspective of hero narratives was focused on. I will admit though that it was very frustrating seeing Harry push away people that CONTINUOUSLY tried to help him.
listen I have mixed feelings about how whiny he was...on the one hand I sorta get where he was coming from, but I found it really hard to read at times
I'm one of them 😂. My main issue with Order of the Phoenix is how it stretched on for really, really long. And after Goblet of Fire, which was pretty fast paced (and my personal favorite) it just didn't really hit the right way.
One of the best things about the Harry Potter series is that the books just get better and better. They grow with the characters. I think you’ll love them more as you go along, especially because I felt similarly about the first 2 books and I think it’s because they’re meant for much younger readers and the characters are younger then.
the way i see it harry doesn't get angsty as much as he gets just straight up angry at the way he's being treated (which, absolutely fair, it would be SO boring if he was 100% fine with the pressure he's expected to deal with)
Yeah like I love Newt but the stories just kinda feel like they were forced on him, like he is a hufflepuff zoologist who got dragged into these messes
@Cleverly relatable Username That wasn't just one scene, it was various scenes that happened off-page. You think I would be interested in reading a book about the Marauders and reading more scenes with fucking Sirius and James being arrogant bullies, fuck that. No!! I am done with Harry Potter and J K Rowling.
If you want to read a devastating book, read “Night” by Eli Wesley. If you haven’t read or heard of it, it’s Holocaust survivor’s recounting of just experiences. We read it in school and when the teacher would tell us to look up from our books when reading time was finished, I could see other students crying when the looked up. It’s a lot of handle.
when I was younger I didn't realise that Snape would be in his early 30s at the start of the series and not 50... Bc he's the same age as Lily and James, who died when they were like 22 and Harry one. So in Sorcerer's Stone Snape would've been around 32... Like that messed me up
What??? I always imagined him being so much older when I was younger and read the books 🤯 I seriously want to re-read the books again and see how my perspective has changed now that I'm almost 27 and have been through some shit.
SPOILER But man, I remember I cried _so much_ when Dumbledore died... And for some reason, that didn't happen when i read it for the first time, it was the second time; and everytime after
It's so fun hearing someone talk about Harry Potter because it seems like everyone around me has read or watched the series million years ago and it feels weird to discuss it at all. Like most of the time it's just factual/historical like "yeah that happened". As I reread HP as I got older and therefore know more about myself, I find myself identify less and less with Harry (when I was a kid I identified with the main characters more readily) and why should that surprise me, I'm a Hufflepuff and I don't subscribe to heroism. Okay I wanted to say more but I'm censoring myself until you read more of the series. Thank you for the video!
Yup, that happened to me, too. I was a gryffindor until I retook the test last year for the giggles, and got hufflepuff. I'm like, yeah, I'm down! These guys are probably a bunch of really chill dudes. Helga was all about equality, that socialist witch, and guess what, their dorm is real close to the kitchens! Really, sounds all kinds of awesome to me. As we get older, I guess we get less reckless and more interested in keeping the peace.
I think many people can agree to this haha! Me and my friends joke all the time that we’d be happy to be in any of the houses, as long as it’s not gryffindor! Why? Solely because that’s Harry Potter’s house 😂 A bit dramatic, but we unanimously agree that Harry Potter is a shitwipe and the least favorite character
Lol i am honestly like you, idk why but i just can't stand gryffindors! Maybe because one of their qualities is recklessness(?) , and i despise recklessness..I'm a Ravenclaw btw.
I used to relate to hermione a lot bc books, weird hair and Greek name but then burnout happened, and also I realised that Luna was right fucking there
I almost cried laughing when I was listening to your Snape rant. He is literally The Worst. I also agree with you in regards to the HP series & plot: I reread the first Harry Potter a few years ago and it definitely felt slow paced. I do think Prisoner of Azkaban is where the pacing picks up and the plot gets deeper/darker overall, so you're in for a fun ride to the end of the series I think!
I think most people will typically agree that the first two Harry Potter books are the weakest and stuff starts to really get good around 3. Something I think that's a bit underrated and hard to really catch for newer folks who read it all at once instead of real time when it first came out is that Harry Potter (the series) got more mature and sort of aged along with the readers as books went on.
So much this! I was 8 when I started reading the first book and 17 by the time the last book came out and it truly was like growing up right alongside Harry!
Everyone is out here talking about Harry Potter but I'm just sitting here knitting and wishing people talked more about the superiority of historical romance. Mostly because contemporary romances find a way to rub in my face that my contemporary romantic experience has been mostly not ideal and I just don't need that. Ever.

Cindy: I'm so mad that I enjoyed Harry Potter. Me: I'm so happy that you enjoyed Harry Potter! Seriously, though, the first two books were pretty boring for me as well, but you might start getting more into the story from now on, the characters get way more interesting and the plot thickens too.

Excellent
I LOVE the OotP because of all that angst. Harry needed all that energy, he was way too ok with everything before.
Ohhh, I loved the fifth book. Mostly because the bridge lady was a better villain than the main villain.
Brah I hate the fifth book cause Harry felt like a little bitch
I loooove the fifth book!!!! My fave in the series
Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban in the best book in the series Imo!
I was pleasantly surprised!
The fourth is my personal fav
Yesssss
It's my favourite too, followed by Deathly Hallows and Goblet of Fire
I prefer Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix but Azkaban was very solid

Also yes, when Ron defends Hermione yessss, but then in the movie, instead of defending her Ron says "he's right, you know ".
i hate that they change that in the movie!!
The White Rose in WW2 is a good example of how anti-nazi ideology actually affected real people. This group of young people handed out pamphlets, and were beheaded for it. I know we want to read about characters with anti-nazi ideas, but it was super dangerous to express these ideas in real life, unfortunately.

sometimes i wonder if cindy's internal dialogue when reading angst she likes is like... "yasss rip my heart out of my chest. grind it under your heel -- no, put it in a blender! BLEND ITTT!! pour it out into the gutter!! i am LOVING the PAIN"
Yes
I think you’ll love them more as you go along, especially because I felt similarly about the first 2 books and I think it’s because they’re meant for much younger readers and the characters are younger then.
exactly!!
the way i see it harry doesn't get angsty as much as he gets just straight up angry at the way he's being treated (which, absolutely fair, it would be SO boring if he was 100% fine with the pressure he's expected to deal with)
"james potter is way more interesting than harry"
SAMEEE OMG IT'S WHAT I'VE ALWAYS THOUGHT
yea im way more interested in reading about him than harry!
@@withcindy YESSS we need a marauders series 😣

@Cleverly relatable Username James Potter is a fucking bully so no... screw him.

I remember when I first read The Prisoner of Askaban, Sirius shot up to favorite HP character. Still is. I love that guy.
yesss we stan
when I was younger I didn't realise that Snape would be in his early 30s at the start of the series and not 50... Bc he's the same age as Lily and James, who died when they were like 22 and Harry one. So in Sorcerer's Stone Snape would've been around 32... Like that messed me up
Oh man...that's so weird to think now!
What??? I always imagined him being so much older when I was younger and read the books 🤯 I seriously want to re-read the books again and see how my perspective has changed now that I'm almost 27 and have been through some shit.
Alan Rickman distorted our age perception
Last time I was this early Lily and James were still alive

SIRIUS IS A DRAMA QUEEN AND WE LOVE TAT SHIT I'm high key happy ur getting into hp *crying*
@@Mastermint Hahaha socialist witch, that sounds really good :)
Imagine having emotions
I hate it
I think most people will typically agree that the first two Harry Potter books are the weakest and stuff starts to really get good around 3. Something I think that's a bit underrated and hard to really catch for newer folks who read it all at once instead of real time when it first came out is that Harry Potter (the series) got more mature and sort of aged along with the readers as books went on.
So much this! I was 8 when I started reading the first book and 17 by the time the last book came out and it truly was like growing up right alongside Harry!
i woke up this morning with the thought "cindy will post her wrap-up today" aND YOU *DELIVERED* THANK YOU SO MUCH
