I thought most club kids were/are amazing however "Self love is the only love... is perfect"- for narcissists that's true! Note it was murderer (who got amazingly only got manslaughter Michael Alig backing up Richie Rich!
I LOVE what Richie Rich says at time 4:12 "if people wanna look at me and be rude, I'll just look at myself and be nice" thats so awesome. the best quote ever.
That's right Richie Rich, READ HER!!!!! If people are shady to nice people who don't deserve it, keep a mirror handy. That's ok, Richie has the last laugh, designing clothes for celebrities.
it's so funny that the host is only focused on making a scandal out of the whole thing and doesn't bother to truly listen to his guests. What's even funnier is that these kids were speaking about their future success- and look at richie rich now- jackpot.
i find it really disgusting how this was taken as a way to sort of shame them and make fun of them... they were an interesting subculture and i find this so completely disrespectful.... like who is this donahue guy that he feels so much more superior to all of them? a bunch of close minded americans in an audience ridiculing things they dont understand. hard to watch.
According to the video, the club kids were paid to be eccentric, they had “followers,” they promoted and generated business/revenue for businesses (clubs). In retrospect, this was a live version of what is now done on social media by famous media personalities. Back then it was done in person, today, online. Though the platform is different, the concept is really the same. When you actually think about it, things haven’t changed as much as we might think.
How many times is this racist going to ask if black people can go into the club. My sidebar is also showing another episode of Donahue called "Mulattoes Who Pass for White."
Donahue "You literally have a Spring Collection?" Kevin "Yes I do" Donahue " I see. I believe you, I believe you...Now she won't get a bone in her nose or anything like that?" haha that is pretty obnoxious. haha
Kevin did go on to make a name for himself - The rest moved on or faded into oblivion. And, of course, we know the whole Angel/Alig/Freeze connection. Most people don't realize Michael sealed his own fate by admitting he had killed Angel to many people - way before his arrest ever occured. In life it is your friends who know all your dirty little secrets - and those friends will do you in. Being a bit strange is one thing - murder quite another. Some on that stage kept Alig's secret. Why?
I think they were all fun and cool as hell. I hate when people stare at them like they are sick. They're just having a good time and trying to share that energy. The only thing that fucked some of them up was the drug use. I wish they still had that I would so go lol
goddamn michael alig looks high as hell on heroin in this and i truly believed if he and freeze hadnt murdered angel this group of people would still be supporting the creativity and compassion the club kids originally stood for before the drugs came.into place. love james st. james outfit, he truly inspires me. but luckily now we have.lady gaga, and if youve ever been to her shows EVERYONE is dressed like this. the monsterball was so liberating, i felt like i met my family there.
95% of club kids went on to live pretty lucrative lives. All except Michael Alig that is..... even Freeze did well after his stint in prison. Look up their names. Google them....
@afdba He may come across as rude to some, but for me, the way in which he interrupts just somehow works. It's like he's really good at getting a feel for someone and what they're saying quickly and though he interrupts it's almost always to make a good point or take the conversation to a place where the audience can understand. Or just to reign things in when they get off topic. His style is less interview and more lively conversation. It's a different kind of thing, but for me, it works.
@ritter89 Well I think it did attract quite a few hetero females AND males (straight males too), most of them just didn't dress up as extravagently as the kids onstage). And I don't think I would agree with you on concepts such as "hyper masculine" because I probably have a very different defination of "masculine" in the first place than you do. Btw, the guys on stage I wouldn't call "extremely" thin. That's a bit much, I think.
@poisoncupcake74 yes! love richie and his clothing line Heatherette! when he said that it reminded me of what gaga told us at the monsterball in LA on her 25th bday and she said" when u leave here tonite, dont leave loving me more, leave loving yourself mote goddammit!"
i have so much anxiety and anger watching this, club kids deserved so much better. so fucking tired of society punishing people for being different and feeling good in their own skin.
@Discordia5 i didnt mean edgy and rude are the same thing, he is both, donahue i mean. And everyone feels shitty when something is wearing off...if there were drugs without the downhill id probably od'd already. and i think its entertaining to look at it on live tv but donahue disurves a relaxing neckshot in my opinion.
Creativity died in 2000. Music is no different now then it was then. the Autotune trend is the only technological euphonic enhancement to the music industry. 70s,80s,90 Music is distinct as synths got better. Now it's stagnated. Soon the world will run out of songs.
@islandgal75 now there's a comment that's interesting to others! I did not know those guys were club kids... i wasn't disagreeing with your original comment, i just said i found it gratuitous and irrelevant.
the entire scene was crazy druggy i can understand the feds shutting it down but it def was somethin to experience at least once or twice if you were comin up in the late 80s and esp. early 90s.
Kevin the designer's almost getting a little edgy now that his cocaine seems to be wearing off... and James St James started clubbing at 14?? I thought he graduated high school in his home town...
thank God most of these people in the audience are either dead or 70, I wonder what they think now when they see Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry. This kids were only being fashion forward and themselves.
@afdba I couldn't agree with you more about Donahue, but at least he's trying. I give him a little credit for being in the early 90s before everyone on TV had to be politically correct... but still, he treats them like a joke and that just universally rude. (By "edgy" I don't mean rude... if you've ever done a large amount of cocaine you'll understand)
"Self love is the only love"
that is perfect
No, the love of Jesus is the most important love. Jesus died for our sins and He loves us all. Repent and find Him.
I absolutely love coming back to these olddddddd vids every so often just for the nostalgia alone
"Everybody's calling me a freak show if they have to look at me and be rude, I'll look at me and be nice." :) love you richie :)

James St. James is so amazing. i love him

"Self love is the only love, the first and the last." :) love you richie :)
Well Richie is just adorable!! Love him!
My dude looks like 100 miles of bad road now.
I can't believe how homophobic this was
To much self love, can be poisonous.
Everything in moderation.
I wish they still existed, i would definitley become a club kid lmao
Bring back the club kids!!! Love them♥♥♥
Not one person here noticed Micheal Alig, the murderer who chopped up his friend. Another club kid.
James is amazing. LOVE the look!
How many times is this racist going to ask if black people can go into the club. My sidebar is also showing another episode of Donahue called "Mulattoes Who Pass for White."
The Club Kids shoulda have never gone on television.
Donahue
"You literally have a Spring Collection?"
Kevin
"Yes I do"
Donahue
" I see. I believe you, I believe you...Now she won't get a bone in her nose or anything like that?"
haha that is pretty obnoxious. haha
"Stacy" made such a discusted face, lol.
this youngs are cute and very adorable.

God Bless America
bet you Kevin was happy to get off stage for a couple of minutes.
I think they were all fun and cool as hell. I hate when people stare at them like they are sick. They're just having a good time and trying to share that energy. The only thing that fucked some of them up was the drug use. I wish they still had that I would so go lol
i agree if interrupts you when you say things he doesn't agree with
@RobertoSilence no she did not, there is a youtube video titled Ep. 85 - James St. James & Jenny Talia From "Party Monster" from 2009.
Donahue is pissing me off. He doesn't allow anyone to finish a sentence.
goddamn michael alig looks high as hell on heroin in this and i truly believed if he and freeze hadnt murdered angel this group of people would still be supporting the creativity and compassion the club kids originally stood for before the drugs came.into place. love james st. james outfit, he truly inspires me. but luckily now we have.lady gaga, and if youve ever been to her shows EVERYONE is dressed like this. the monsterball was so liberating, i felt like i met my family there.
donahue is the king of shade
95% of club kids went on to live pretty lucrative lives. All except Michael Alig that is..... even Freeze did well after his stint in prison. Look up their names. Google them....
@afdba I agree COMPLETELY. Like when initially he called them trash, when he was corrected he looked completely offended. feh.
@hamsterbass123 im well aware about it... i still dont get your point.
"..if u don't belong to a club.." Phil honestly doesnt know what clubs are ??
4:41 this lady seems like fun !
@afdba He may come across as rude to some, but for me, the way in which he interrupts just somehow works. @RobertoSilence I think you're mistaking her with Gitsie.
@SeekingOutTomorrow I didn't notice that til I saw you're comment. Ugh.. people are so ignorant.
@ritter89 Well I think it did attract quite a few hetero females AND males (straight males too), most of them just didn't dress up as extravagently as the kids onstage). @islandgal75 "mostly in fashion and art" well where else do you expect them to have careers? In accounting? lol
@islandgal75 now there's a comment that's interesting to others! I did not know those guys were club kids... i wasn't disagreeing with your original comment, i just said i found it gratuitous and irrelevant.
james st james looks like a geisha almost.
@islandgal75 wow that was ridiculously gratuitous... How does that explain how club kids left their mark on pop culture at all?
@GoGidgety *face palm*
the entire scene was crazy druggy i can understand the feds shutting it down but it def was somethin to experience at least once or twice if you were comin up in the late 80s and esp. early 90s.
Stacey did not like Donahue 😆
actually Donahue wasn't the problem he gave these people a platform to explain themselves something I don't think many people did
guys a bit hands on with the young women
Kevin the designer's almost getting a little edgy now that his cocaine seems to be wearing off... and James St James started clubbing at 14?? I thought he graduated high school in his home town...
