Leigh was at a club and did his thing next to one of the Rolling Stones who said: "Fuck off freak!" Leigh instantly shot back: "Fuck off fossil!"
Bananarama: And for our next video, the Pet Shop Boys with "WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS?"
Leigh: That's what I was about to ask you.
Siobhan Fahey (who left the Nanas to form Shakespear's Sister in 1988) was born in Ireland to Irish parents but moved to England by age two. Her mate Jacquie O'Sullivan [in the video)] took Siobhan's place for a few years before Keren & Sara carried on as a duo (1992).
"I'd love to be on a macrobiotic diet all the time, but when you've only got roadside cafes..." HAHA! This is brilliant. Surreal and subtely camp!
The man was way ahead of his time. For 2011, we still have not caught up to him...yet...
Jacquie wasn't allowed to speak! She was allowed to sing most of the vocals though ...
This is fantastic! My sisters were really into Banarama when I was growing up and I can remember them watching this show in the late 80s. Great stuff.
The girls are no great shakes as presenters, but Leigh was brill, he is sorely missed.
Leigh is just charming most visual artists for some reason or another take the bitchy queen route , and this is proof that bitchy is not better
if there only had been a 'Leigh Bowery Show' on MTV back then.
i saw this guy in a club once on regent street bout 13 years ago. he was a freak then too lol.
loved it.
Jax had a bit of fun and moved on. She is doing just fine these days and is very happy.

That actually is pretty cool...and a nice use of the 'Bowery Barb' that we know is lurking behind that deceptively sweet demeanour he adopted whilst in conversation with Bananarama...
Jacquie seems really fun.. shame she left in 92. Keren seems like a right moody cow.
I just found this Bowery's work today, and its very awesome. Very creative personality indeed, he'll be missed much.
It's Leigh's voice too. He was a complete one off. There should be paintings of him hanging in the best galleries!

@hattersuffa It was a video show AND chat show ... and the hosts were pop stars & celebs each week. The awkwardness was part of the fun. I think you're over-analysing it a bit. Bananarama were the huge stars then -- not Leigh Bowery (who was virtually unknown until well after his death).
Such an intelligent man...

Right ... I don't disagree with any of that. They needed a third member to make it into the record books (as a group instead of a duo) -- Jacquie was chosen by Karen & Sara but Siobhan as well. Indeed, Siobhan & Jacquie are still friends to this day and have an intertwining circle of friends in Soho and in the industry.

I agree with Bunny. Sarah and Jacquie's body language says they adore him. Its just the format of the show which is super lite. He doesnt belong on this piece of mere merchandising yet here he is anyway. That speaks volumes about either the show's producers or Bananarama, and Leigh. I would love to know who's programming decision it was to have him on.
Sadly there are few who still know about Leigh Bowery, his legacy is fading... On the other hand, thank heavens that bananarama's has already.. What a dull bunch of women... Leigh held this together, their questions were droll...
