He's playing the character...if you've seen the interviews with the real micheal alig you wouldn't think he was such a bad actor. I thought he was over acting at first too but I watched the interviews and he does a really good job. He captured just HOW MUCH of a character michael actually was/is.
That is so true! Just lookup any of Michael's appearances on Talk Shows and anything in the movie is way way toned down compared to the Real thing. They were Obnoxious! This movie is brilliant. People keep complaining about the acting, but I think they're missing a lot of crucial points here, especially who the characters are and the style they were going for. Black comedy of sorts, which actually works. It's unique and that's what I love about it. Wish Macaulay did more roles like these and Seth was amazing.

I did like the movie ,, but as someone who was part of the "club kid" scene in Sydney Aust in late 89's and all through the 9o's & a tad into the naughty's.. this movie TOTALLY romanticized the crap out of the scene .. BUT I will say that there were WONDERFUL people & wonderful times, but there was a lot of darkness & death. Being in a family of 12-40 people is an amazing experience but there is always a bad apple or 2 or 3 or ,, you get my drift. So I have affection for the movie & was very excited waiting for it to come out & it gave me nostalgia. It was all MUCH grubbier .. rubbish everywhere back in those days. By 6-7am the streets were just garbage EVERYWHERE, McDonalds & kebab wrapper, needles, condoms, money, drugs even .. just a wasteland of the night before. ... and finally James was even more fabulous than portrayed ... oh I luff him so much. It's amazing how many of us did make it out alive & disease free for the extra lucky ones. James is certainly one of them :) xxx Ps: yes ths is a great scene in the movie :))
For anyone saying his acting career bombed I hope you know it didn't, he quit when he was 14 because his parents split up and where having a HUGE custody battle which made them almost bankrupt. He said he wasn't acting again until they learned to act like adults, I believe he also had to give them money to help them get rid of ther debts.
I have a feeling that I asked the deepest questions which will ever be asked by the people watching this clip, as I assume those who "liked" this to be of the flamboyant-but-lost type, but I challenge you to challenge my claim. And those who observe this with a closed mind, and pre-determinded attitude, I will just ask that you take one moment of your life to step out of yourself, and ask what you're even here for. Hate is the feeling you get when you don't understand. Knowledge overcomes Hate.
How dare somebody say that they did bad acting. Seth and Macaulay are both easily playing 2 roles that I dont think many could pull off. Took months of study and practice. Some of thier best work to date. Horrorbisiness is a dirty skrod.
the style and colour palette of this movie is amazing. The main problem it has is the framing. Like 1:55 why did they zoom in on Michael's face when it's a body movement shot... A lot of weird choices. A guilty pleasure movie non the less
OK, in this movie, there is a scene where Michael Alig discusses his childhood while on his bed, and James throws him off and bed and claims to be "The hero of the story", then there will is a stop motion scene of the New York skyline, upon which James will be shown in his "Blood bath bride" outfit. There is a song playng with an opera singer in it. If anyone can find the name of this song, I will be so happy!

Seth Green totally nailed James St. James. Even James' mother said so. Macauley didn't do a good job potraying Michael Alig. Not just the physical differences, but the mannerisms were off. Seth Green is legitimately one of the few straight actors who can play gay without being offensively stereotypical. This is so crazy authentic.
That's a little stereotypical, though. I mean, when you think of gay guys, it's very close to the way he performed.
