really nice! i was on that concert in SD, i actually was on the opposite side of the guy who filmed this, infront of the bassist :) it was great, the 3 of them played really awesome
how can you not like this youtube??!! i listen strickly to heavy metal, MetallicA, Megadeth, Children of Bodom, Killswitch Engage etc etc...yet this video is AMAZING!!! so much talent in this guy
Hey, He has done a couple projects with Greg Howe which isn't considered a Jazz hero, but a Rock Fusion guy. To my knowledge he has never played with Gambale which is another great fusion player. I actually have Kotzen's entire catalog. He is more of a Rootsy Blues/Rock guy. He did do a slight Jazz/Classical/Fusion project called Vertu. He did one solo album in the vein of the Kotzen/Howe stuff which would be considered fusion. I love Kotzen's music, but he isn't a Jazz guy by any means.
Amazing, the first time i heard that gig, was way back, and never gets old, it's incredible how he capture the very soul of him and play at every single note, be like on guitar or vocals, that man is incredible
@synth002 i can see how you'd think that, but i just met him and got to know him this past week and let me assure you, he's SO incredibly modest and down-to-earth. he's a sweetheart with immense talent. i love the guy!
Yeah his playing style has changed quite a bit since then. There's a cool video of Fooled Again at Wolverhampton, London from the other night and his playing style blew me away, a lot of the time he hardly uses his right hand at all!
hes so awesome, he like was an insane shreedder in the 80s now hes really exciting, hes so awesome at singing check out his soul band.... i think its called Wilson Hawk
I don't care whether he is Jazz, Fusion, Blues/ Rock. Whatever. I know what he is. One BAD ASS S.O.B.! Does anyone else get the vibe that Ritchie Kotzen is what John Mayer wishes he could be.
@Suckyea He basically plugs in strait to the amp. He only uses a delay sometimes, at least that's what he said. Also, I think I've heard him use a wah, but I'm not sure...
Gordon Parrish Guitar Hell yeah. Kotzen is amazing. It’s different than Jimmy but he is obviously playing it with his own flair to it. Awesome stuff!!!
@mtnthai I mean this honestly and whole-heartedly, if you cannot hear what is good about this particular performance by this particular artist then my advice to you is to listen to a lot more music. Forget what you think you know. Research by sound and by history absolutley everything from dubstep to Baroque. LEARN to appreciate EVERYTHING then in several years time listen to this performance again and post here once more. peace, John
@IamAlexG i specifically said, to each his own, and offered my opinion. your response is GTFO? i am so glad that you are so tolerant of differing opinions, your open mind is so refreshing. NOT! everyone has a bad day. i think this was a bad day for Richie. may be he needs to listen Dylan play it again, or Jimi, or Gary Moore, or Dave Mason, or ................................ anyone else.
Which part? The part where he quoted Hendrix' original solo or the part where he did his own thing and was amazing? Keep sitting in your bedroom criticizing others. When's your next open mic gig, jerfkoff?
While I would agree with your assessment I'd just like to add that any guitar player that could stand on stage opposite the legendary Stanley Clarke is worthy of note.
Personally, I've always felt Jimi's rythem guitar style was where he excelled. Oh, he could solo great as well, but come on, listen to Little Wing intro. That's just a sample. As for Richie, yes he is a rock god of rock in his own right, and I love this version as much as Jimi's!!!
One of the best to ever play this song period! Besides Hendrix of course!
He really should release a studio or a properly recorded live version of this.
For me the best rock- funky-blues guitar player on earth.
Fantastic guitarist, fantastic singer, fantastic song writer/arranger.
what a great drummer! amazing. Richie is wonderfull every time!
this guy just keeps getting better and better
I was there!!! It is a SHAME that the place was not even close to be full!! Fucking SHAME that people won`t go enjoy this level of musicianship!!!
2:25 his vocals just amazed me...
he just keeps on getting better & better, awesome performence.AMAZING FEEL!
surprisingly fresh interpretation!
So far, the coolest cover of this tune I've heard.
Great version of this tune. It sounds like the original, yet completely different. NICELY done!!
The original song by Bob Dylan sounds nothing like this so how can you say that it does
Great Voice! Love his playing!
Ritchie is an amazing player and a really good singer too. great respect for that. This performance was very inspiring. thank you for uploading.
Aaaahh great energy, awesome performance !!
The best version I ever heard, soon after Jimi's of course.
One of the best!
Kotzen is a beast guitar and vocal wise.
Awesome vocals here.
really nice! i was on that concert in SD, i actually was on the opposite side of the guy who filmed this, infront of the bassist :) it was great, the 3 of them played really awesome

So glad I'm not alone on it, you read my mind.
Agree with you. Severeal of my ever-favorite Kotzen tunes are there
I really like John, he is as good in his own thing as Richie is in his own, both of them are true musicians just with a different style
I totally agree with you!!! An awesome musician, Richie Kotzen THE GREAT!!!

Pure magic!
my hero
I think it is awesome.
holy shit this tone
ROCK is back, thank god almighty!
Amazing, the first time i heard that gig, was way back, and never gets old, it's incredible how he capture the very soul of him and play at every single note, be like on guitar or vocals, that man is incredible
Richie here looks kinda like Charlie from Its Always Sunny, the "Charlie Gets Crippled" episode with him dressed like the Vietnam Vet.
Lol

hes so awesome, he like was an insane shreedder in the 80s now hes really exciting, hes so awesome at singing
check out his soul band.... i think its called Wilson Hawk
He simply must do a studio version of excellent quality!!!..
Dude, he was very inspired this day!!! The way he played and sang this song was unique! Bob Dylan and Jimi are very proud of him!
still watching this over and over again!!! is there a version that i can buy or download somewher??
I don't care whether he is Jazz, Fusion, Blues/ Rock. Whatever. I know what he is. One BAD ASS S.O.B.! Does anyone else get the vibe that Ritchie Kotzen is what John Mayer wishes he could be.
His Telecaster is SO beautiful...but the neck on that thing looks freakin huge even from here!
so love your vdo
@Suckyea He basically plugs in strait to the amp. He only uses a delay sometimes, at least that's what he said. Also, I think I've heard him use a wah, but I'm not sure...
Some of these comments are embarrassing. It’s possible to like this version and the Hendrix one at the same time.
Gordon Parrish Guitar Hell yeah. Kotzen is amazing. It’s different than Jimmy but he is obviously playing it with his own flair to it. Awesome stuff!!!
@Suckyea I'm not sure. Watch the video on the side with the title "Richie Kotzen Gear Tour" he explains all that stuff.
ritchie...so damn hot and a very good guitar player
superb kotzen jam
this should be called jack sparrow plays at the house of blues
Think like me haha
Lmao!!
SICK!!
@POLDUSTLEAD I think that might actually be a bad bug with YT, I am seeing this on alot of videos recently.

@dlowshitemister I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that about Mayer.
@mtnthai

I didn't realise Captian Jack Sparrow could rock like that!!!
3 Piece band, pure majestic

2:28 gave me chills
@magirecords2004 Are you being sarcastic? Cos him & Glen Hughes collabed on one of Richie's albums called "Wave of Emotion".
I understand that he is a very clean player, but thats surely partly due to his equipment. So does anyone know what makes his guitar sound so direct?
@filipequintas so youre saying he doesnt use processor and that stuff?
Captain Jack Sparrow on vocals and lead guitar...
Was this guy in Poison or something?
What camera are you using? thanks
man he's stoned, but that's truely amzing...
Did SRV dress as a pirate?
one of the last shows Richie made with a pick !
And yeah it's a shame ... he deserves much more people than this ....
Business men they drink my wine,
Come and smoke my herb.
@Lucasgratuidade
Yeah ;)
