I usually hate when people say some guitarist is underrated, but I couldn’t agree more. I just recently discovered the guy. Unbelievable player, songwriter, and singer.
Kotzen is a musical BEAST. The passion in which he plays is 2nd to none. He delivers every note like its his last....been one of my favorites for years. CHEERS to ALL
My love for Mike Portnoy is the reason I'm here. After I heard about his group, The Winery Dogs, I decided to grab their first album. What a find! I already knew about Billy Sheehan - a bassist that never sits in the pocket, plays his bass like a guitar, and somehow still comes out smelling like roses. I obviously knew about Portnoy - a drummer with no need of an introduction or explanation, ever. But to lead the power trio with such a bluesy voice and such skill on the Telecaster? Richie Kotzen blew my mind. I remember him from his early days as an innovative super-shredder, and some of his early stuff still had some soul to it, but good grief! As a mature guitarist and singer, the man is just amazing! So totally underrated. It's such a crime he's known by so few in America. His band here is really good. A great in-the-pocket bassist paired with a simple and effective blues drummer - nothing but groove from the rhythm section. I understand why Kotzen's old fans might not like his newer material. Shredding on a super-strat to 80's Hair Metal is a far cry from a blues-rock trio, you know?
Hell yeah! I was also turned onto Kotzen's music in the same way, Dream Theater led me to Winery Dogs and after hearing him coupled with Sheehan and Portnoy I'd say it's still some of the best music i've heard released relatively recently. you should check out their show here if you haven't already ua-cam.com/video/LkKBcEV75WE/v-deo.html Perfection from start to finish.
If his old fans don't like his new material, they're not listening. He shreds as good as ever, but it's a lot tastier now. I watch these 'Sessions' vids about twice a week. Can't hear it enough.
Well said! I knew about him from the Eddie Trunk radio show way before The Winery Dogs ,had a lengthy interview ...Just wow, what a gifted player AND singer
Ritchie Kotzen is the full package, great guitar player, singer, and can write music that resonates with people. The winery dogs is a great example of that.
Only recently delved into Ritchie Kotzen - bloody hell, what a musical genius! Superb songwriting, vocals and legendary guitar. and a great range of stuff as well.
Great to see Richie in his element with such a great sounding band. More of this please! His guitar tone is one of the best i've ever heard not to mention the vocals! A compete all rounder!

Love his versatility saw him with Winery Dogs was an awesome experience a very talented musician and writer could listen to him all day so uplifting and soothing too
Ahhh... Ok, first time I've heard or seen him. I just know the "Richie Kotzen" signature Telecaster. Which is Bad-arse, BTW! So is his music, I must say, now that im hearing it. It's great to see: high quality medium rock, but a touch on the hard side. I don't even know who to compare him to, in today's wasteland of organic, musical instrument driven music ! Good show! Far more accessible as a man than Mayer!
If you like shred guitar, check his first 2 solo albums. Fusion? Check his work with Vertu and Greg Howe. Hairband? Check his work with Poison's Native Tongue album. Hard Rock? Check his 2 albums with Mr. Big. If you want a little bit of progressive hard rock check his work with Billy Sheehan and Mike Portnoy as "The Winery Dogs". Richie had it all, the chops, the vocals etc.
Man , Kotzen ! All I can say is In Cre Dible ! This dude has it all , guitar mastery , vocal range and uniqueness! And the band is just as masterful ! If not better ! Ridiculous how good these guys r ! And , in comparison, as good as they r , their recognition in no way can do them justice ! They deserve all of it ! Great job Ritchie and company , I’m an old coot from the eighties n play guitar myself , and u and ur band has been a diamond in a sea of untalented promotion poster kids ! Please keep on rockin! Straight good jammin hard rock will never die , in part thanks to you ! And Thank U !

Hugely hugely hugely underrated band. Such a king. Can just see he comes from a different generation of musicians. Reminds me a little of Myles Kennedy
@@sergiosouza7523 estou conhecendo o trabalho do Kotzen agora, faz poucos dias. O que me impressiona é a rara característica que ele tem de ser virtuoso na voz e na guitarra. Isso é raro. Sempre foi. Muito preciso sem perder o feeling. Mas, sem duvidas C.Cornell é um ícone, gosto muito.
It's not. And I'll say it again: 1:37: The drummer hits floor tom & hihat. Hihat is not heard, but instead the snare is. It's a multi-track live recording. That clip was from another take. That of course doesn't change the fact they are amazing live, just stating the facts.
There's a great guitar mag interview with Richie, Reb Beach, and I think Warren DiMartini where Reb and Warren were floored by Richie's noodling during the interview. Reb would mention some complicated rifg and Richie would rip it off like it was no big deal....and I think he was about 20 at the time.
Richie Kotzen is a enigma!!! The greatest thing is that a guy from the USA is a left foot wah pedal user considering that when driving a clutch pedal is a stranger to possibly 95% of the USA!!? Anyhow,he's certainly AWESOME player who has a good voice!!!
Ritchie is so damn good... I think I am at the point where I can honestly now say he is the best. It's taken me years to get here. I have lots of respect for the guy too - by all indication he is doing his thing and has been for years without regard or selling his soul to the big record companies since going solo. A true artist makes works he is happy with, it becomes an actual extension of themselves and thus resonates in ways it otherwise can't. Sure Ritchie could make more "radio friendly" or mainstream powerhouse material - but that would mean less time for him to put together truly masterful work. Ritchie can literally shred while keeping a soulful vibe going way beyond a level of anyone else I can think of - all while delivering excellent lead vocals with a Chris Cornellish vibe (while still being unique). Ritchie truly has unique style all his own that only he can really do and can't be emulated - that is a sign of greatness and a truly artist in my book Take the throne Ritchie - you are the true living king of modern rock guitar. Doesn't matter if everyday people don't know who you are - the serious guitarists do and that's all that matters.
Of course the trade off with Richie not giving into record company pressures, is that his phenomenal talent is as widely appreciated as it should be. Hopefully the Winery Dogs will do that a bit more. He deserves international acclaim!!!!!
He don't want to sing up with Illuminati bs so he will stay not so famous I think. But he is better than most "musicians" out there. Richie is walking inspiration anyway.
I feel the same way every single time I listen to his songs! This guy is the most creative musician at the moment, he is a guitarrist prodigioso, sings fucking well, plus he is still making new songs! He is a fucking genius!
I wish I could have access to recording studio like this. I bet I can come up with some great music too. Anyway, it's great to see this singer player play his own guitar. Nice wah wah, too.

I keep coming back to this song. Sounds great. At times, Ritchie sounds a little like Chris Cornell in vocals as he gets older. I have been listening to three of their songs lately and really like them.
He’s got to be the most underrated guitarist on the planet. The playing and vocals are insanely great!
Richie is a f.....g Musical Genius !!!
HE'S FABULOUS.
Yea, when I cry over the loss of Chris Cornell, I remind myself of Richie Kotzen's vocals, on top of his brilliant finger-picking style
I usually hate when people say some guitarist is underrated, but I couldn’t agree more. I just recently discovered the guy. Unbelievable player, songwriter, and singer.
He reminds me of Ian thornley
I can't even listen to the original rec anymore. The outro solo is just INSANE
Fuck yea
This version and the 2015 Tokyo version completely smash the original, you can hear how he has developed the song over the years

I'm in too deep it's no surprise

Times can change but nothing lasts
I never thought of being fooled again
