I personally love Ardennes. They are very reliable horses. I value war horses the most in the game than any other type of horse. When things get really bad you need a horse that can keep it's calmness the longest. If you get bucked off in a firefight, ambush or the like, you are dead. Speed, acceleration etc doesn't matter if you are bucked off :D Plus Ardennes is *T H I C C* , very beautiful strong looking horse.
Speed actually doesn't matter period. There is a microscopic difference from the slowest horse to the fastest. All horses can accelerate to max speed in under 5 seconds. Trapper saddles give infinite stamina if you press the right stick in every 15 seconds.
This is a perfect example why is so important to test horses at full bond. No horse trusts you or performs well at low bond level. This tells us nothing useful about the horse breeds. A fully bonded war horse rarely bucks under stress. And on top of it there are like 6 ads that play on your videos. Like at least try to consider what you ar doing and think it through a little bit.
@@NubIsOn we have been over this. It doesnt take long to level it up and you will spend the vast majority of time with the horse at level 4. Stop trying to justify your oversight.
I think the fact that they got agitated quicker was because they weren't max bonding. If you have a lower bond or no bond at all than they aren't as brave and don't have they're stats maxed. Definitely keep in mind to bond with your horse when you get them. I personally max the bonding with leading. If you lead your horse for example from Valentine to Saint Denis than the bonding will usually max out :)
I stole a Bay Roan Ardennes from a bounty hunter, used him a long time. I can say that they perform well in gun fights but not so calm against predators. I guess that's why they are called 'war' horses.
I'm pretty sure that the courage stat only applies to gunfights. War horses excel in this aspect. Great health, rarely become agitated, and very stable, they make excellent firing platforms. However, not even war horses seem to stand up to predators. I've owned almost all top tier horses at one point or another (except for the Arabian, I just don't like them) and I can say that literally none of my horses were super brave against predators. My Gold Turkoman was the worst, she'd buck me all the goddamn time. Out of all my horses, not a single one was consistently rock solid when it came to standing their ground against beasts. I've been bucked by all breeds I've owned and at a pretty similar rate.
@@massivegat5087 It's been a long time since I played the game but my White Arabian was the best horse that I loved with the Black one. I also liked the gray Brindle Thoroughbred. Another great one! Ardennes seems to have won this battle, but I wish they had made the war breeds more notoriously braver than other breeds. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between them when it comes to courage and that should be the main differential factor between war and other types of horses.
I had an Ardennes and the black Arabian. The Ardennes never bucked me in an entire play through, the Arabian literally got me killed by cougars and in several gun fights!😂
Why is the balancing in this game such garbage? There should be a trade off to balance horses and to keep more of them viable.. the war horses should dominate the spooking mechanic like the superior horses do with speed..
Well, even the fastest horses aren't that much faster than a normal horse. To put it in a perspective - i tested the trotter which has 10 speed and 7 acc and a Hungarian with 6 speed and 5 acc. I went from A to B twice with both horses and the results were: 1.24.98/1.24.94 for the trotter and 1.22.74/1.22.69 for the hungarian. I'm still using the hungarian, she's so much braver than a trotter, and that's what's important to me in a horse.
I'm pretty sure even if you had two of the same breeds their stability will be different and they will react differently to different things. Some horses are scared of gunfire, some are scared more of snakes, or bears, or wolves. They all react differently to me, but maybe I'm just imagining things.

The moral is: when you find a special horse in the game, keep it and care for it, and don't assume replacing it with another of the same breed/coat/sex/whatever will mean it acts the same, because that doesn't seem to be the case. If it were, there'd have been calcuated chart values of horse behavior by breed four or five years ago.
I'd like to see a similarly priced Dutch Warmblood vs an Andalusian.... I think they're comparable in many ways but with different stat trade-offs. Curious how they each do against one another.
INubIsOn Yea of course the more bond the horse has the less skittish it is, the game tells you that right off the bat. That’s why you bond your horses before testing their bravery.
I actually love both of my Ardennes. It's surprisingly fast and have won a few races with it. They're slowly becoming my favorite horse for online. I also have a Turk, a Trotter and a Shire. All good horses IMO.
I think next you should do Belgian Draft vs Shire. Both huge, draft horses! I love them both and I recently found out that the Blond Chestnut Belgian Draft looks a lot like Epona from LoZ: Twilight Princess
I was able to glitch myself a SR Arden From the drunk driver glitch in chapter two and…I’d say it’s the best horse in the game, for me at least. I bonded with her up to the point she was max bond and she NEVER bucked me after that. I read some stuff saying that every horse is more afraid then another. Say if you had bought, stole the same exact horse, apparently one horse may be afraid of gunfire a lot more then the other, so I tested this out. My SR Arden I had originally was more afraid of predators, so in chapter four I bought myself a second SR Arden and tested this out…and it was almost if not more afraid of predators so I don’t really believe pple who say that kinda stuff bc it didn’t work for me. Anyway, after that I bought myself a RG Andu and tested him out…I honestly don’t like him to much, he was also afraid of predators like my Arden and he wasn’t any better in gun battles the only thing I noticed was he was a tiny bit faster which was nice. So best horse from my experience, coat wise the RG Andu as I don’t strongly love pink/strawberry as much as rose grey, stat wise they both win, mood wise Arden, size…personally I’m a sucker for large or really tall horses like shires and thoroughbreds so Arden and overall the Arden wins knocking the rose grey Andu out of the way only by an inch winning my love.
Itz Ebony That’s a really good list! They’re insanely beautiful. I love the Missouri Fox Trotter, but my favorite is the Strawberry Ardennes! I do agree with you but i’d put Ardennes on it too ^^
The level 4 bonded andalusian I just got is insane against panthers I no joke walked around in circles with the panther for 2:30 seconds and got tired of holding the left stick button at that point and killed panther.
I love the Strawberry Ardennes. Give it a mohawk, short tail, make both the red colour and taadaa you have a BEAST! It will look like a proper war horse (imo). Never tried the rose grey andalusian...might have to lol. The Dark Bay andalusian looks...not as bulky as the rose grey...or maybe that's just me.
At level 2 bonding my Andalusian would literally run directly over 4 gators before it bucked me off. At level 4 bonding when chased by a bear, it ran off with me still on it 👍 going to try the Ardennes next.
Get the strawberry Ardenne, throw in a firey red mohawk and tail, name it Red Hare, and you have yourself Lu Bu's famous mount. Also while calming the horse it could ride up to wolves, cougar, and panther without bucking you. Best horse for general use and hunting in the game.
For rough terrains like the snow terrain in Ambarino I definitely prefer the Ardennes or the Shire horses (both strong horses with extra fur on their legs) 'cause I think they do much better than average horses in the snow. You can see that those who don't have the extra fur on their legs have more difficulty to walk on snow and they are constantly moving their legs in weird ways to get their legs out of the snow while the Ardennes and the Shires don't. I'd pick Ardennes for rough terrains. I always keep either an Ardennes or a Shire for whenever I want to explore the snowy mountains. But I do love the Andalusians too (my favorite is the Dark Bay) but they don't do well on the snowy terrain for me.
The first time I got the dark bay Andalusian, it was a female. It was a rock. Second time through, I got a male, and it was super skittish. I ended up going back again and reloading until I got another female. She's been a rock so far, too.
This my third playthrough and with all glitches no longer available, I’ve found myself an Andalusian. I don’t agree with paying for horses, too spoilt. But it’s a bad ass horse
I have the pre order Iron Gray Ardennes and love that horse, till I lost all my horses after ch.6. I just recently gotten the Rose Grey Andalusian and Strawberry Roan Ardennes. I love the RG Andalusian almost as much as the Iron Grey Ardennes. But I am not impressed with the SR Ardennes at all! Seems to be alot slower than the RG Andalusian and the Ardennes seems to be alot more skittish around animals. I would say I like the RG Andalusian better than the Turkoman's.
@@NubIsOn I hadn't really spent anytime other then the IG Ardennes and than the Turkoman's. While their stats are very good I was just never impressed with the Turkoman's. They have many issues, especially when it comes to terrain and they don't like being pushed hard. Some horses I was absolutely surprised with are the Chocolate Roan Dutch Warmblood ( one of the most underrated horse imho), Tiger stripped Bay Mustang, and the Dapole Dark Grey Hungarian Halfbred. My favorite breed is the Missouri Foxtrotters, and I really like the Nakota's, especially the Reverse Dapple Roan Nakota, plus you cant forget about the Brindle Thoroughbred(imho the 2nd fastest horse). So many great horses in game and I wish there were more. Even different coats will have different characteristics, great job Rockstar!!
@@kirkhutchins4989 if there was space for 4 breeds which is not then all players can stable 4 breeds which means you can stable best work type horse breed not just Missouri Fox Trotter, Turkoman and Mustang. Tiger Striped Mustang and American Standardbred health and stamina is 8 when fully bonded which. American Standardbred its one of the race type horse good for long distance running. Throughout Breed type of race horse for short distance which is good for quick get away from trouble but you can quick get away from troubles with Arabians, Missouri Fox Trotter, American Standardbred and Turkoman as well.
well in my opinion and play trough from start to end The Dutch Warmblood is the best overall if you don't like to spend money the wild mustangs and the nokota is the best in all situations those are the ones i am using all the time and they have saved my life bunch of time the nokota is best for expirenced riders if you can fight and calm it a bit in between ty for the greate videos oh and btw i have tested all the horses the same way you do.
@@xxxhushxxx2933 No, they tend to be a lot less skittish than Arabians, though like I said in the video with the battle before this one, I think there's like a somewhat random number that gets attached to the hidden courage stat whenever the horse is generated or spawned in game. At least it sure feels like that to me.
Definitely buying the ARDENNES one of my favorite horses...my favorite horses are the black Arabian it can be bought from the saint Denis stable for $1125, my second favorite horse is the bay roan ARDENNES it can be bought from the scarlet meadow stable for $140, my third favorite horse is the tiger striped mustang it can be found in new Austin east of the legendary pronghorn and south east of fort Mercer.
You can't really tell which breed is braver and which is not. Imo every horse reacts to different situations differently for e.g. I was hunting big game with my Perline Andalusian and came across a grizzly, the bear saw me and starting growling while standing on it's hind legs but my horse didn't even flinch. He was staring that bear right in the eyes but then he's the same horse who gets agitated and skittish when he sees a snake in the bush 😂.
I guess I got really lucky with my iron grey ardennes because she would never get skiddish, only around crocodiles and even then she would never buck me off, she would usually just move away. With gunfire she would always remain calm and would run right through shooters sometimes and trample them lol.
My Ardy is my best horse by far, I love Andy’s but mine was killed in a last stand against some bounty hunters. So I found a Ardy at a Stable and I knew that she was a War Horse so I bought her. Her name is Hercules, she has got me through some rough times. She has survived so many bounty hunter attacks and stuff with the law. She is always by my side during train robberies, and she gets me out of there safely. Thanks Hercules!
In REAL LIFE the Andalusian is unmatched!!! They are the white circus horses you see doing all of those amazing tricks. They are always born on a steep hill, raised on a steep hill, which is why they are so strong!!! I love both but in reality an andalusian wouldn't even be affordable for most!!!
It does. The stronger the bond, the lesser the chance of your horse to become agitated. This of course doesn't mean they won't buck you off (under the right circumstances, all breeds will), but it will translate in things like you being able to calm them faster, control them better, and having more time to act around predators before they buck you off.
I had an adren Who was max level bond and stood for a good solid maybe…12 to maybe 13 seconds before bucking me off when faced with a cougar(looking back it MUST have been like…a lag on the horse or something idk)
Ryan Pendzik just asking because they're two different types of horses. One's a race horse and one's a war. The differences are obvious. They both have their uses in different areas
I mean in terms of pure bred war horses. I want to like Turkomans, but they get scared more easily than they should, considering they are still half war.
Ffs I bought an Andalusian online to hunt because they’re apparently best around dangerous animals, doesn’t look like it! What is the best horse in your experience around alligators etc?
I found mine to be skittish, bitchy (louder than the white Arabian while galloping), and not brave in the least. Would buck me off at the first sign of predators or gunfights. Got especially freaked out by snakes, wolves, etc. I didn't find this horse or the Andalusian any braver than most other horses.
I tried both at level 4 still same just a bit better at gun fights. I had better encounters with Wolf and Gators with Thoroughbred which i got from a Church in the desert, War horses mean nothing just a little better movement when shooting and hunting.
Are you fully bonded with these horses Nubis? They seem to be a mess. If you aren’t fully bonded, then why bother with these tests? How do you expect to get accurate results when they don’t trust you and aren’t performing to full potential or the task they are built for?
Because you dont buy / get a hirse at lvl 1 and you still need to play with him and he needs to perform decent but if the lvl 1 is good the lvl 4 will be better
I think you thought Andalusian little bit faster than Ardennes because Andalusian little bit smaller. Rose Grey Bay Arabian Horse, Ardennes, Andalusian, Turkoman and Missouri Fox Trotter the best horse in game. Next best horse in game can be American Standardbred, White Arabian Horse, White Arabian Horse and Tiger Striped Mustang. That's my opinion.
I want someone to spoon feed me a definitive answer. I always save my game before doing major stuff. So I saved, bough the Strawberry Ardennes, rode it down to test it against gators. I wasn’t as impressed as I thought I’d be. Then I did the same thing for the Rose Grey Andalusian. It seemed to ride a little smoother around the gators. So I stuck with it for now and saved. But I want the Ardennes cause it looks so badass. But I don’t know which one is braver overall. Please just throw an answer at me my European friend.
Oh ok so what I would tell you to do is get the gold bars. You can do this by doing the explorer challenges and there is locations.look up on youtube how to get gold bars. And buy both get them max bonded then choose the one you prefer.

Itz Ebony That’s a really good list! They’re insanely beautiful. I love the Missouri Fox Trotter, but my favorite is the Strawberry Ardennes! I do agree with you but i’d put Ardennes on it too ^^
My favourites are:
Ardennes (Iron gray)
Black standardbred
Turkoman
^^
Круто👏👍
I got the wild perlino Andalusian while hunting for cougars, named her after the warrior Artemisia, such a good horse imo, great color too!
Named my perlino andalusian Freya
@@Boiled_Prawn And I named my Perlino Andalusian Shadowfax from Lord of the Rings
The level 4 bonded andalusian I just got is insane against panthers I no joke walked around in circles with the panther for 2:30 seconds and got tired of holding the left stick button at that point and killed panther.
Nice!
so andalusians are also brave
I love the Strawberry Ardennes. Give it a mohawk, short tail, make both the red colour and taadaa you have a BEAST! It will look like a proper war horse (imo). Never tried the rose grey andalusian...might have to lol. The Dark Bay andalusian looks...not as bulky as the rose grey...or maybe that's just me.
Yea the andalusian does not look that bulky as the Ardennes
The colour of the coat plays a role
What saddle do you have? Looks really cool. I've used the same saddle this whole time and am ready for something new.
I am using the Kneller Dakota Saddle the Improved version
At level 2 bonding my Andalusian would literally run directly over 4 gators before it bucked me off. At level 4 bonding when chased by a bear, it ran off with me still on it 👍 going to try the Ardennes next.
Get the strawberry Ardenne, throw in a firey red mohawk and tail, name it Red Hare, and you have yourself Lu Bu's famous mount. Also while calming the horse it could ride up to wolves, cougar, and panther without bucking you. Best horse for general use and hunting in the game.
Ardennes is in my top 3 favorite breeds. It just looks so unique.
Yes indeed i have a shire as well just for snow and rough terrain
The first time I got the dark bay Andalusian, it was a female. It was a rock. Second time through, I got a male, and it was super skittish. I ended up going back again and reloading until I got another female. She's been a rock so far, too.
This my third playthrough and with all glitches no longer available, I’ve found myself an Andalusian. I don’t agree with paying for horses, too spoilt. But it’s a bad ass horse
I have an andalusian in my stable, slow but very stable, love it when I give my turkoman a break.
Yea lvl 4 Andalusians are really good
I have the pre order Iron Gray Ardennes and love that horse, till I lost all my horses after ch.6.
I was overall pretty disappointed in some war horses i tought they woud do alot better
@@kirkhutchins4989 yea indeed, alot of horses are underrated and yes they need to add more horses and coats
Dutch warmblood are my favorite. Nothing will replace Beatrice lol. Are foxtrotter skittish like arabians are?
@@xxxhushxxx2933 No, they tend to be a lot less skittish than Arabians, though like I said in the video with the battle before this one, I think there's like a somewhat random number that gets attached to the hidden courage stat whenever the horse is generated or spawned in game. At least it sure feels like that to me.
Dan Maul i agree
Yes mustang are amazing as well, for a lower price the Dutch Warmblood is the best but of course you can find the mustang wichs is amazing in the wild
Nothing is better than having a mean big war horse ( I'm gonna include the Shire even though it's a draft horse it's pretty goddamn big )
I just got a strawberry roan Ardennes horse in chapter 2 without having to buy the outlaw survival kit and the horse was only $140.
How? You can only get it post game.
Andulisan’s rare coat( the new one) beats every other warhorse.
Perlino coat is not better than ardennes
@@adnanhaind yes it is
My Ardy is my best horse by far, I love Andy’s but mine was killed in a last stand against some bounty hunters.
I prefer the Hungarian Halfbred(Dapple Dark Grey) its a really big horse lol
Yea it was first main horse amazing how big they are
I always snag the Hungarian from the 1st bounty mission in Valentine. Always one of my favorites (also she got them curves)
@@jeffro512 Nice! Hahah
Make video Strawberry Roan Ardennes vs Rose Grey Hungarian Halfbred.
Are you using level 1 bonded horses
the ardennes was spooked to begin with btw
In REAL LIFE the Andalusian is unmatched!!! They are the white circus horses you see doing all of those amazing tricks. They are always born on a steep hill, raised on a steep hill, which is why they are so strong!!! I love both but in reality an andalusian wouldn't even be affordable for most!!!
I wonder if level 4 bonding has any influence on the horses' bravery when facing predators..
It does. The stronger the bond, the lesser the chance of your horse to become agitated. This of course doesn't mean they won't buck you off (under the right circumstances, all breeds will), but it will translate in things like you being able to calm them faster, control them better, and having more time to act around predators before they buck you off.
Thank you.
I had an adren Who was max level bond and stood for a good solid maybe…12 to maybe 13 seconds before bucking me off when faced with a cougar(looking back it MUST have been like…a lag on the horse or something idk)
Totally unrelated but I also like the dapple grey Hungarian Halfbred
Can you do video of black American Standardbred vs Ardennes bay roan
Ryan Pendzik why
Because they’re both my favorite horses in the game
Ryan Pendzik just asking because they're two different types of horses. One's a race horse and one's a war. The differences are obvious. They both have their uses in different areas
Are you sure these horses are maxed out because I've never been bucked off by these two horses and definitely not by wolves
I’m not surprised that they are the same in every category. They both have the same stats, and are the best war horses in the game.
Citrus Tron turkoman is better in my opinion
I mean in terms of pure bred war horses. I want to like Turkomans, but they get scared more easily than they should, considering they are still half war.
@@shpongle7322 haha nope
Ffs I bought an Andalusian online to hunt because they’re apparently best around dangerous animals, doesn’t look like it! What is the best horse in your experience around alligators etc?
I feel like the shire is amazing you should check the video out.
NubIsOn I initially wanted the white shire as well (slaps head)
@@blurredandhazy yea pretty amazing horse
What level are these horses??
I found mine to be skittish, bitchy (louder than the white Arabian while galloping), and not brave in the least. Would buck me off at the first sign of predators or gunfights. Got especially freaked out by snakes, wolves, etc. I didn't find this horse or the Andalusian any braver than most other horses.
Please do a gang horse ranking
dache chetty Micah’s horse is the best unfortunately
What's the point of war horses if they buck you off just as quick as other style of breeds?
Ye true
Which horse wont buck off?
I tried both at level 4 still same just a bit better at gun fights. I had better encounters with Wolf and Gators with Thoroughbred which i got from a Church in the desert, War horses mean nothing just a little better movement when shooting and hunting.
I have the regular ardennes and I could swear he is braver than the strawberry he doesn't care at all he just trampled gators like they are grass
I think the Ardennes was already nrevouw before you drew you're revolver??
No that from the riding i think it did it right after the speed test
What level bonding where they?
I believe 1
@@NubIsOn the temper towards predators gets signifficantly better when when youre at 3-4 level bonding. You will really see the war spirit in them.
Which horse is the best ?
Depends on the situation but probably the Turkoman or Missouri Fox Trotter
And the Araber?
@@youplaywewatch5183 yes also a good horse but small and gets scared more.
my max bonded Perlino Andalusian runs over those crocs like rabbits lol
so andulsian is better than ardennes?
Depends on preference I mean those two coats essentially have the same stats. Just whichever you like more. I like both and can't choose myself
Andalusian is the best horse in the game. Could be because im andalusian too xD
¿Votaste Vox?
Dutch Van der Linde nop
@@fcojavierdelatorre3428 y este año? Xd
Tengo el andaluz cremello cordobés y ardenner rojizo.
Son putos tanques de cuatro patas, agueguenme si quieren jugar al online.
Piebald Tobiano Hungarian-Half Bred try it
I got hosed by not preordering the " basic game" making aquiring a steel grey ardennes imposible.
If you really want it you can use the cheat to spawn it
8:07 Alligators.
There's a difference friend.
What is the biggest horse in the game?
The black raven shire which Hosea gives Arthur in chapter 2
The best 🐎 is a Arabian thoroughbred
Andalussian FTW
Is it just me or the horses speed feels all the same
Its because he always tests at low bond so none of the horses are being tested with their actual stats
The bravest horse is the tiger striped mustang
Mi favourite horse in the game is the andalusian
does horse gender affect a horse's bravery?
Not sure i think it does but i am not sure
So nobody knew about the Perlino coat huh?
It was added later
@@jv3198 I see.
The Andalusian wins. Is better than the Ardennes. Truly
Yea but for me the Ardennes looks cooler
@@NubIsOn OK, sure is good
you havent maxed bonding so you havent seen the best of these horses
Andalusian won the speed round
Arabian and Turkomen are the best.
No, Arabian and Ardennes are the best, in my opinion.
Thomas Richardson
Arabian gets scared easily
Thomas Richardson I respect your opinion alot, but personally I love the Strawberry Roan Ardennes and Iron Grey Ardennes aswell as the Missouri Foxtrotter
Andulusians freaking suck
how?
Dont judge based on this video. He doesnt bond with the horses before testing them so their stats are low
Both are not good in my view
There are definitely better options
