This time we are testing if there is any difference between a male and female horse !
Using the Dark Bay Turkoman both LVL 4 and both have the same saddle and stirrups.

When hitched, I've noticed that male horses move around more than females, like they swish their tail and adjust their stance more often. I've also noticed that males are more vocal (depending).
I agree, especially my turkomon (online) very impatient, always half jumping when tied to a post, or very vocal when im stood still checking my map. But i love him

I have a male white Arabian called Pegasus (i know u can only get the female in the wild but i found a glitch in Saint Denis😁) and he actually saved me from getting shot to pieces by the law. He got shot and was in the revival state so i ran around a building to outrun the law, revived Pegasus then ran off to lead the law away from him and was about to get surrounded when Pegasus came out of nowhere and i got the hell out of there. I didn't even *whistle* and he still saved me. I don't know about you but that screams loyalty to me🥰🥰🥰

John just refers to female horses as "lady", so if you name your female horse Lady then John would inadvertently end up calling it by its name XD

It's kind of annoying, especially in online mode when you name your female horse Lucy for example, then after a while you realise Lucy has grown some balls.

@@miraalen3847 from what I've noticed, it usually happens when your horse despawns 'cuz you've left it far behind,or for whatever reason and when you call it back it changes gender.
I always prefer to ride females for some reason, except for the gold Turkoman (I prefer the male because I always name him Spirit lol)

They actually do! I did a test with 2 chestnut Arabians and they were completely different, One was really brave and loyal while the other one was skittish and would buck you off for a tiny snake ect

As Arthur, I tend to use male horses just to hear him say “boah”. As John, I strictly use mares to hear him say “lady” and “filly”.

Thanks for this. I noticed that at least in my experience the female seems less agitated in dangerous situations. I have in single player the female tiger striped mustang and as I mentioned before she isn't afraid of anything. Online I got the male version of the horse and he always seem to be agitated when firing guns and just seems more uneasy in general. Same horse just different sex. Still doesn't throw me off but yeah he is less easy going. I got the same experience in gunfights that males seem less easy.

Hmm mine is the complete opposite 😂 I have the female tiger striped mustang and I stg it will buck me off all the time but I had a female grullo dun mustang for the main story and that was the best one I’ve had, it wasn’t scared of anything.
Alexandra Clermont there’s definitely stallions that are child safe lol and that can be handled by children. You just had unruly ones, I follow tons of IG accounts with stud that are led around and loved on by kids
Alexandra Clermont by no means am I trying to be offensive but whilst I agree stallions should be kept from mates during breeding/ heat season. Isolating stallions is very bad as they are herd animals and need the social interactions for brain stimulation. You only get a dangerous stallion when you treat them as such, they really are mostly moody during breeding season and if properly socialized and trained can be amazing mounts.

I kill four wolves and my tiger stripe bay mustang female, never moved I think is one of the most stable horse of the game.

Mustangs are really underrated, one of my favortie breeds along with the Dutch Warmblood! It feels like they listen better as well to the whistle.

The Mustang and the Nakota are so overlooked by their class and stats. They are some of the best horses in the game!
The Silver Dapple Roan is my favorite horse and I have a Turk and the Black Arabian. I agree. I loved the Nokota in the story.
I think the appaloosa is an underrated breed too theyre a lot prettier and braver than other horses
I think that there is a hidden RPG element to the horse's and their personalities and characteristics. From my experiences i have had same breed, same coat and same sex and while the speed and acceleration we nearly exact the differences lied in how they handled guns and predators. The differences in the guns and predators was really obvious and thats where I believe the RPG element lies, in those stats.

@Arthur's Horse I've had 2 black Arabians, 1 male and 1 female, my male was skittish around everything and my female was suprisingly brave and very loyal, I miss her, accidentally deleted the save with her. I've also had 2 dark bay Andalusians, both female, first one bucked me for wolves at level 4 bonding and took forever to calm and my other doesn't buck me for anything even a bear charging. They really do seem to have individual personalities.
I've don't that many playthroughs that I've lost count and for the majority of them I've used the dark bay andualson, in 1 particular playthrough it was as if the horse was glitched wouldn't buck at a thing, didn't even give Af about the panthers down behind braithwaite manor

Victor Draws I’m trying to max bond with all horse breeds in my current playthrough and I’ve seen a skittish Ardennes and a very brave splash white American Paint which is my main horse. No two horses are the same

Each horse has a different personality which I find pretty cool. When I started chapter 3 the first thing I did was find a new horse and I got a Mustang from the wild, and I used the horse until the very end of chapter 6 and then in the epilogue I loved it so much that the first thing I did with John was go to new Austin and find the tiger striped mustang 😂 buttttt it’s completely different! Even though it’s the same breed it always bucks me off, it runs away all the time and it doesn’t come straight away when I whistle like my first one did. As soon as the horse hears gun shots or sees an animal it runs away 😒 oh well I still like it lol
I so agree... In chapter 2 I caught a grullo dun mare and she was amazing, stallion of the same color did just as well...I caught a tiger striped mare last night got her to level 3 before I just left her at Beechers Hope, I don't have anymore stalls but not ready to get rid of her...we almost got killed twice because she wouldn't listen and stayed freaked out. I also have a silver turkoman stallion, a rose gray Arab stallion, gray Andalusian stallion, and the Amber champange mft mare they are all amazing. I love the hotter horses, Arab and Turk, they are always ready. The Andalusian and MFT are more laid back but they perform just as well.
I always choose male because I always have a feeling if I leave my female horse somewhere it will be boned.

O and a female is more loyal and will not let you down. When grizzley attacked me an I was killing enemy's my girl stood in it's way and kicked it. Killing it. She's been my horse since chapter 2 stole her from a bounty Hunter. She's never bucked me the male has. She runs over snakes she will stand in front of anything hurtful to me an push me away like in the swamps.

I stick with female horses. Despite rockstars attempt at giving male horses their respective genetial attributes, it’s not that accurate. When a horse gallops you are not always going to see their balls fopping around between their but cheeks, they just don’t stick out that much, sorry. It’s kinda weird and not normal. The only time I’ve ever literally seen a horses balls fopping around is when the stallion is being shown off for the purpose of looking appealing to people interested in having their mates covered, or buying frozen semen.
Realistically too, stallions would physically be a lot more muscular, especially in the neck. Stallions have this large muscle at the arch of their neck that that geldings and mares, simply do not have

Ik this is out of topic but, I really hope Rockstar makes a napoleonic era game, I want Rockstar and Ubisoft making them, the combat system of AC3 was amazing and Rockstar’s detail and graphics is godly. Anyways, I hope you know what I’m talking about.

dblg jr do you know if you can recover stamina with the Fox trotter? From my experience at least a while ago you weren’t able to even at full bonding level, I know there have been some patches to the game so I wonder if they fixed that?

the horse gets scared when the crocodile starts to roar, otherwise you can keep the horse here if you keep calming it down
the horse will only run away and drop you when the animal starts roaring

If you don’t keep it well fed per horse stats found in your menu then it takes longer to “bond”. Same applies to combat/predator. You have to spam L3 to calm your horse to get it used to danger. My Silver Turkoman didn’t let out a whimper before I realized a cougar was charging at me. Cougar was literally touching my Silver Turkoman legs. He dragged his butt while I was spamming “calm/L3” but he never bucked me off. He obeyed and I was able to create space to line up a Rolling block headshot. The Appaloosa and Ardennes are the best war horses. Don’t even think of trying it with an Arabian, they’re awesome horses but will buck you in a heartbeat.
I personally like mares better. :) Though l have a query and you know alot about the horses in game. Why are there no geldings? They threatened Duffy with some gelding tongs. In real life geldings have better temperaments than stallions. Thanks for all the great videos :)

I don't think a gunslinger with this kind of life would think "oh I should really geld my stallion sometime soon!"
A couple reasons
* not a horse game, it ain't that big of a difference
* It wasn't that common to geld stallions back then and there was a bigger risk killing your horse
* back then men that rode stallions were considered stronger

I do the mohawk on male horses and leave the long hair on the female horses as well. Turkoman and Fox Trotter horses are my favs in the game!
The turkoman doesn’t buck me off often it seems to buck you if you fight against it, it bucks you but letting go of the left stick and tapping x it never does
I always wondered about this, I only have males, all 5 horses, if it's ok with you I will leave here later a video of a Stranger Mission Wolf Hunt where the Shire was just perfect
as long as you keep moving away from predators it will lower the chance of bucking
My two main horses for Arthur are the male Mahogany bay tennesse walker, and a female Chocolate roan Dutch warmblood
Love the idea of this video- a bit leary of the results though.. Same saddle and stirrups are great- but there's so many other variables to account for and other things that might also make a difference..
-I'm curious how you galloped the horses. Don't know if you're just holding the "run/gallop" button, or if you're tapping it in-sync (possibly sometimes less accurately- which would end up giving unreliable results).
-Also other NPCs can occasionally slow your horse down (if auto-collision avoidance kicks in, or you just need to go around them).
-I'm also not sure if going off the road/path makes you go any slower/lose more stamina- that could have an effect on the outcome too.
-Also all the little adjustments left and right could possibly slow you down too, (so the best test would just be a straight line with no other direction and nothing/nobody to avoid). Sooo many variables.
-Were both horses at the same weight? That could have a major effect..
-Both bonded to the same level? (I'm guessing yes, because he said same stats).
-Did both horses have their bars/cores for health and stamina "topped off" before the testing?, etc..
Thanks for the video! Definitely interesting and a great subject! Don't think this was definitive enough for me though, and had some difficult to control variables. You'd need to mod to do this real accurate to say for sure.
I've always used female horses for like almost a year now the game has been out but a few weeks ago I bought the Lvl 20 Kladruber for the Trader online and picked a male he's amazing hunting and shooting great demeanor
gender never crossed my mind in this game, I always looking at breed and class. i guess thats why im not a big arabian fan, because i like brave horses
Maybe the trick is to not stop until you’re well away, or does he still buck?
I think there’s personality stat for each horse like Pokémon but it’s hidden . Catch or buy one and you’ll bond and figure it out like real life
Ok lets talk about a few things. First, do not fire over the horses head. Fire off the side. With any weapon. You will notice a difference in all their responses. Firing next to them they will all spook. As far as the performance will go. The Mare will always out perform the Gelding. As far as for the calmer the Gelding will out perform the Mare. You will also notice the more you brush and feed all of them the horse will perform more. Petting also helps.

I bought it recently since mine Arabian pretty much died accidentally by falling of a cliff and pretty much didn't make it.
Since I got my Silver Turkoman Ive decided to go back to Blackwater then I got ambush by the lobo(wolf) gang first time on his ambush attack he did very well he got a little bit agitated but he handle it very well. We then ran back to black water pretty much in a minute he was fast as heck

Crocs have a stronger bite and are generally stronger and more dangerous/aggressive than Alligators.
I need to play RDR2 more because i have not even tried to get a mare yet
If I like a horse, I will steal it/buy it (depending on the circumstances) but I typically go for the stallions because they feel faster and they feel stronger. Also, only ever can think of names for the males. The mares I own always end up throwing me and running away when I shoot guns. I also think the stallions do better at hunting for herbivores. But when I go out for predators, my arabian mare "Black Snow" I never get thrown and she barely ever moves off the path when their is a snake, she goes straight. I also found that when you are training a horse on level one, tofeed them every day, twice a day. Keep them brushed, determine what you will use them for, getvthem used to it at bonding level 1. But it all depends on your specific horse's personality.
I also prefer males and have better names in mind for them than with females but I do love my dark bay Andalusian Charlotte and I'm always trying to find a male black american standarbred for Arthur, I've had 2 females, tried to get a male but it bucked me and ran off

You now that kind of horse can be brave one second and be afraid the next, it’s like mood swings, because my female has killed a wolf by running over it once, but she has also bucked me off at times.
The female was standing closer to the start than the male was and the female had 1 alligator vs the male having 2 alligators.
You should ask a friend that has the same breed and same bonding lvl but opposite sex to race you

I had a male Fox horse online, he wasn't afraid of crocodiles, and when he approached them, he didn't care much, but unfortunately I sold it by mistake and I bought, Female and it was a coward, maybe because the male raised him together with crocodiles from the first time I bought it.
Theres absolutely nothing different in stats with any Male of female horse in game. They're simply duplicate models with one slight visual difference which is genitalia and that's it.
Rockstar just wanted to give the horse balls to show how "realistic" they could get but the ironic part about this is that female horses have neither vagina or utters while even the buffalo in game have visual female parts compared to the male.
Kinda silly but you think rockstar would have considered that theres going to be alot of people unhappy about that being overlooked all because they wanted go add horse balls to the game.

There are too many variables for this to be accurate, down to how steadily you hold the buttons. Horse animations are very randomized and not all that indicative of stats; we’re not talking about them running away. There are variables in what the AI sees and will respond to from on test to another.

That turkoman is a chicken, he drop you and ran away far from you at any problem. The Missoury Fox trotter is fast and calm and if you know how to calm him down, you are going to run over crocodiles, he can drop you with the big cats but like any other horse. And the only horse that didn't drop me with the big cats is the Ardenés, but is a way slow horse

I named my male rose grey arabian “The Count” (I named it after Dutch’s horse because its such a unique name.) & hes my little buddy. hes been my horse for 2 months now & hes great. i never cared for female horses, idk if its just me but i think male horses (especially arabians) are more stable than females. Just me i think though lol. Great video though.👍🏼
