It worth saying that the malorian, Johnny’s one, is at least 60 years old, Johnny was using it in 2013, and I think fires 14mm caseless in the role playing game
@Chenath I know, they already had cybernetics and mechs etc, but i think it’s a lot more understandable to have older iron sights etc in a time in the cyberpunk world where holographic sights don’t seem to be common, also the abbreviation you used threw me off, has to read the comment a few times
It makes sense for the Malorian Arms 3516 (Johnny Silverhand's gun, the first one in the video) to have 20th century sights. After all, it's a gun from all the way back in 2020, and it was probably made to order years before the events of the Arasaka Tower bombing. So contrary to common sense, the sights are not that anachronistic. The flamethrower attachment on the other hand... yeah.
Gun from 2020, Arasaka bombing happens 2023, so I guess technically yeah, it is “years” before the bombing, but in 2077, people will think of it as basically a contemporary gun to the time of the bombing.

Plan B sounds like a great way to get rid of eddies in-game once you get to the point where buying things becomes absurdly easy. It isn’t too hard to get easy money if you level up your crafting
Jonathan's mention of logical probability really nails my sentiment on video game guns. Sometimes its nice to kind of see the train of thought for their operation.
With all his talk about where he expects gun technology to be in the future, you ought to get him together with an artist to show them. Better yet, work with one of the games and make them a dlc weapons pack, with a portion of proceeds going to the Royal Armouries.
14:00 that pistol reads to me (as someone who has not played cyberpunk) as something akin to a swappable revolver cylinder rather than a magazine. It rotates to position the next round to the barrel and the angle they're at is consistent around the circle so that the "cylinder" can be more compact overall by having a chambered edge along the front thus decreasing the amount of cutaway needed from the gun frame to allow this unique operation while maintaining as much firearm rigidity as possible
The Palica Smart Shotgun and its big brother the L-69 Zhuo are clearly based on the metal storm electrically fired ammo system. That's why you drop in a new barrel - the barrel has all the rounds stacked in it as a sealed and replaceable unit.
Honestly, it seems if they'd give him some more prep materials, such as capabilities and specs as they work in the game, he might be able to do even better. He seems to not get the Cyberpunk's Tech and Smart weapons
The "swarm of bees" is what's called a "smart" weapon, basically it's a bullet version of the technology used by various air forces where your munitions are linked to a HUD, and wherever you are looking is where the shot's going to go. It's hilarious with the SMG and rifle versions when you score like 20-30 headshots...in like two seconds. 🤣
@@lexi9956 The trouble with that is the expense and reliability of such things even if they are possible. Smart munitions have to be either wildly better than a competently aimed standard projectile or they need to be as reliable and cheap. It's the reason that the colt 1911 isn't significantly different and still used today even though the design is well over 100 years old.

2:22 You know this actually makes for a really cool concept, the front sight being a miniature holographic dot, with supplementary illuminated fiber optic or "tru-glo" style translucent neon colored plastic inserts or even traditional tritium vials. for the rear sights. I, for one (and I'm sure others as well) would love to see a prototype. anyone with a maker's mind and the equipment to do so should take on the challenge, could be a good way to get your name out there not to mention the enjoyment of the process and pride of having taken something from (futuristic!) fiction and bringing it to life. if nothing else someone bring the idea up to the hacksmith, or Adam savage and similar makers to try their hands at it
Problem is that'd only work for indie devs and b studios like cdpr where the ground level devs actually have input on the design. If he asked the future dev of battlefield 6 or far cry 7 about anything it'd be mostly dead, depressed stares and "marketing said it had to be like that".
Funny thing about that car analogy, there are cars in this game without any windows. They have a dome inside that projects everything captured by exterior cameras, giving you a pretty clear view.
I'm kind of curious about Jonathan's campaign against iron sights in future settings. I'd think that ironsights will never be obsolete because they are foolproof. Anything more complicated than a notch or a small sticking metal part is prone to malfunction. You can't "break" ironsights ( at least without some force that probably would be deadly to a gun wielder)
Well, to be fair, it looks like a bit was edited out when he says "well, maybe not no more ironsights," which makes me think he qualified what he meant but it was cut out. I'm guessing what he said was along the lines of "ironsights will always be there, but red-dots and similar will soon be included as standard with all factory-produced pistols, because the advantage they provide the user far outweighs the cost and risk of failure." Just guessing, though. I do think it's the logical progression for pistol development, though. They're pretty much standard in competition shooting, so I suspect in a couple of decades they'll be rugged enough for regular military/law enforcement use.
They have red dots in CP2077, they just cost extra but almost every gun can mount them with minimal effort. If you're a serious professional though you get cyber eyes and a grip, the red dot is virtual and you can see your ammo count etc. Iron sights are mostly for the poors. (lots of poors in CP2077, thanks Corporations...)
Or ruin the gun itself. The only attack that could leave the gun and wield intact would be a angle grinder. However, who is gonna use one against the iron sights?
I think this has been my favourite episode of Jonathan reacting to videogame guns - the weapons were both creative and thought-through enough for him to appreciate while even providing some unique ideas and humour he liked
I'd love to see a reaction to Borderlands guns and their evolution throughout the series, their designs and functions become nothing short of ludicrous.
Borderlands 1 was pretty reasonable, but 2, prequel, and that other one went off the deep end. Oddly the Torgue is the least weird because the GyroJet was a thing.
I am so happy the Kongou got some time in this video. It has a solid place in my heart and my inventory. You fight through hordes of enemies with a gun, you come to love it.
The DR-12 Quasar seesm to be a railgun. The reloading only adds new projectiles, but have no propellant. This makes sense with its name "Quasar" that ist an event that produces a lot of electromagnetic radiation, and makes sense in gameplay, as you can "charge" it to make it shoot faster.
I would absolutely love to see his reaction to how both the games in the "Receiver" series mimic the real thing as both games were made to simulate as close as possible to realism
I'd love to see Jonathan's opinion on some of the new coil gun technology being created, and if he thinks it could ever reach the popularity of conventional explosive ammunition weapons.
It isn't new at all, it just took a long time to have the ability to deliver enough power and they will equal and surpass current firearms eventually, once we have batteries that can hold enough power... that is quite literally the only thing holding us back... energy storage, because they require a LOT of power.

I wonder if Johnathon ever gets to shoot any of the cool firearms they have, cause he’s got to be a gun guy, so he’s gotta really want to take some of them to the range.
The last gun shown in the video is what the game calls a Tech Precision Rifle, powerful, mid ranged weapon whose best feature they didn't show you, which is that its sight allows the user to see heat through solid objects, so you can see if enemies are on the other sides of walls or behind obstacles and the rifle shoots (supposedly) with such force it can shoot through those objects. From a game standpoint its a cool weapon :)
If they do cyberpunk again they should have a look at the single-use disposable plastic pistols that you can buy out of vending machines. I thought they were useless in game, but really cool for world-building and not too far off from a current budget gun like a hi-point or something.
I was hoping John would've mentioned the fact the Guillotine has an HK slap even though the latch goes down and V somehow hits it on the top and sets it back in place.
Some of these guns have one design aspect to them that I haven't really seen in modern firearms: It's a vertical shell around a functional core. Or to me it looks like one. You see in first person how it has a seam running down the center of it, much like a jerrycan. My assumption is that it has a sceletonized core or a functional firearm unit, that gets put into a clamshell chassis. In a way kind of like the G11 where it's mostly just a plastic box that a gun is put into. Might be the "budget" way to do it. The only precision machined parts need to be in the functional core, the shell can be very cheap and sloppy as opposed to most modern firearms where the shell is the receiver and it has to be or house components critical for reliable operation. We see shells in modern firearms or designs that function similarly but they are all generally tubes or split horizontally into upper and lower receivers. Vertical clamshells are something I don't think anyone has really done other then germans in WW2.
I loved SKIPPY!!! When I played through a second time, I got Skippy, Satori, Divided We Stand, nanowire, and Overwatch. Add Mantis Blades and an Arm Launcher and you’re basically unstoppable.
The Masamune kinda gives me a sort of Vector vibe with the way that the magazine is in front, so its action could be similar to that, but it also gives me a P90 vibe with its top rail
One of the first things I do when I load up a new save is go and get Skippy. That's how you level up reflexes and pistol capabilities fast and easy. Turning him in is the last thing I do before meeting Hanako for the final main story mission.
An honorable mention in relation to the holographic type sights. In the games universe if you will, you have a robotic eye that links to the sights on your weapons so to others they can’t even see that you have an attachment really at all.
Every now and then I watch a video with this guy. It’s funny, over the years he’s clearly gotten more familiar with the gaming world and where it intersects with gun stuff.
Randomly finding Skippy while exploring the city is probably my favorite part in all of Cyberpunk 2077. Skippy is like a messed up Clippy that gets off on you killing people with it, and it's hilarious. I refused to use any other gun for the longest time, though it sadly becomes obsolete fairly soon when you find guns with much higher DPS.
I think Jonathan would really like Titanfall 2's weapons. They're really unique, especially the grenadier and titan weapons. I know he already did Apex, but it doesn't have nearly enough cool weapons compared to Titanfall 2.
Speaking from memory the Quasar is supposed to be magnetic - with an action more in common with cylinder mag airguns than a conventional firearm. Also, there *is* a series of bullpup pistols that were marketed - see Ian's video on the Boberg XR9S and XR45S (also apparently rebranded the Bond Arms Bullpup Pistol after a company sale). Also on the Malorian Arms gun, I found the rotating action interesting - I thought it might imply another semi-bullpup action where it would have 2 chambers, pulling a round off the mag on one part of the cycle, and loading it on the other.
It would be nice to see Jonathan react to Borderland 3's guns. It has unique and weird guns, some of them have weird magazine placement and weird barrels.
I see the future of red dots differently than Jonathan. I see them more as video game style reticles project on a set of glasses the shooter wears from a camera on the weapon . That way you don't have to get the gun up in a shooting position. And the camera would allow you to stick just your hand around a corner and make an accurate shoot from safety.
Jon: If you look at the ammo counter when using the secondary attack "flamethrower" mode the round count goes down. I haven't read any canon on it, but it coincides with using the gun as a pistol whip/club. My assumption is that it was somehow grenading the round at the muzzle. That attack has zero range, only works in concert with melee. Hence I never regard it is a flamethrower or projectile attack.
It blows my mind how i have more than 100 hours to this game and ive actually seen less than half of the guns you have showed, this game has a ton of guns and each one feels unique and along with the massive world they have created
This is awesome. I hope there will be episode 2 since there is bunch of other guns in the game to check out. I totally want to see what Jonathan thinks about Comrade's hammer.
i doubt Jonathan reads these, but the answer to the smart guns, is that they all are supposedly using "micro missiles." and not conventional bullets, which is why you never see anything eject, and such sharp turns.
Please could Mr Ferguson react to some of the more unusual guns in Warframe, with seperate videos for Tenno and Grineer firearms if possible. Think Jonathan will have a blast trying to get his head around the strange guns in that game XD
For context, that first gun you looked at, the Malorian Arms 35 Whatever, the Sci-fi desert eagle looking gun with the magazine up front. That's a 14mm caliber pistol. I don't know if that helps explain why there is fire in the breach, but it's a HUGE gun.
I hope that intro means Payday 2 is coming, the customization is gonna melt his brain I think. Also Killing Floor 2 would be a good fit for this I think
For Jonathan to understand: Smart weapons are connected to a Chyron in a cybereye (Replacing your actual eye) and a Targeting scope built into the Cybereye as well, allows the use of Smart ammunition that when locked on to a target, act like homing rounds.
I don't think weapons will get that much more sophisticated or complicated in the future, everything else on the other hand like armour will though. Not long before video game HUD's become reality, considering its already here for pilots.
As far as i understand it, Budget Arms guns are designed to be completed by a 3d printer in a Budget Arms Vending Machine. So they are probably all using weird hybrid parts for interchangeability.

always love hearing what Jonathan has to say. he gives his two cents as an expert but also understands that these are video games at the end of the day
It worth saying that the malorian, Johnny’s one, is at least 60 years old, Johnny was using it in 2013, and I think fires 14mm caseless in the role playing game
Also the bullpup pistol is electromagnetic and fires birdshot, I think
The flamethrower attachment on the other hand... yeah.
Well, worth noting Johnny had it made to order and did so, emphasising flash rather than function
Isn't 2020 like 80s or something?
@@weldonwin def not flash over function he wanted a gun that could drop a cyberpsychoed fan from 100 ft no matter how chromed they were
Gun from 2020, Arasaka bombing happens 2023, so I guess technically yeah, it is “years” before the bombing, but in 2077, people will think of it as basically a contemporary gun to the time of the bombing.
Sometimes I wish they gave Jon more info, I feel like someone telling him about the gun categories (power, tech, smart) and their mechanisms he would've appreciated them more
I love how even though he is an expert with guns, he still finds many times to actually praise some of the design choices of cyberpunks guns instead of just making fun of everything and only focusing on the negatives. even seems to be a fan of the cyberpunk genre in general :) I like this man

Please, mr. Jonathan, take a look at it, and hopefuly have some fun figuring out how does all of that weaponry work in 1907
It would be cool to see him react to Half Life Alyx guns. There’s not many, but they are so detailed, and change as you upgrade them.
He would be pleased with the reflex sights, with how his comments on it here is. I want to hear his comment on the pistol's extended magazine more, though. That's more exciting
I loved playing with the "smart guns" in cyberpunk. They were the one type of gun that truly felt like crazy futuristic technology.
Funnily enough they're not that crazy futuristic technology, they were demonstrated in 2014, look up EXACTO on youtube and look for DARPA videos
@@MrTrilbe Probably not crazy futuristic in the fact that we can adjust the trajectory of individual rounds but moreso the full on tracking capabilities that smart guns have and at speed too. Plus the rounds are moreso described as micro missiles if anything.
The Liberty pistol, the Hudson H9 looking one, actually has an iconic version called Plan B that uses your character’s money as ammunition instead of your actual bullets. Don’t ask me how THAT works. 🤣
Ample indeed
No wonder when Dex shoots you in the head you don't even properly die. Aside from the biochip instantly using nanomachines to rebuild your brain and bring you back to life, he was also using NFT bullets
@@thomastsoukaris6890 I dont understand why Dex is using money for ammo, I'd expect it as a non lethal weapon but lethal? That's really dumb.
Some kind of weird crypto scheme, I guess.
I'd 100% pay money for a gun DLC pack of beleieveble firearms Jonathan helped design
We can dream...
I'd love to see him react to the guns of Cruelty Squad and their descriptions
The guns in cruelty squad are real but it would be amusing to watch how he reacts to them
14:00 that pistol reads to me (as someone who has not played cyberpunk) as something akin to a swappable revolver cylinder rather than a magazine.
Johnathan witnessing the awesomeness that is Skippy is not something I knew I needed till now.
You are not the first Solarian primate who has learned to Trust The Awesomeness.
terrifying thing is they just developed bullets that can adjust trajectory in flight, so smart weapons are likely only a decade or two away.
@@lexi9956 try they demonstrated them in 2014
@@lexi9956 The trouble with that is the expense and reliability of such things even if they are possible. Smart munitions have to be either wildly better than a competently aimed standard projectile or they need to be as reliable and cheap. It's the reason that the colt 1911 isn't significantly different and still used today even though the design is well over 100 years old.
"These are inert rounds by the way"
My man Jonathan out here not letting safety slip while handling the drip.
I'm pretty sure they have guns that don't have a safety. As in, guns ancient enough to not have any kind of fire modes other than just not loading the gun or loading it with fakes

But I would rather have the UK firearms regulations here in the US.
I really wanna see Jonathan react to some weird guns from the Borderlands series, after seeing his reaction to Skippy
I really love the sheer delight in Jonathan's voice when he's shown Skippy.
Its a joy to watch this man's reactions and learn from his firearms knowledge. Its also satisfying to see him laugh at hilarious being known as Skippy.
I now really want to see Jonathan react to more of skippy.
2:22 You know this actually makes for a really cool concept, the front sight being a miniature holographic dot, with supplementary illuminated fiber optic or "tru-glo" style translucent neon colored plastic inserts or even traditional tritium vials. for the rear sights.
I, for one (and I'm sure others as well) would love to see a prototype. anyone with a maker's mind and the equipment to do so should take on the challenge, could be a good way to get your name out there not to mention the enjoyment of the process and pride of having taken something from (futuristic!) fiction and bringing it to life. if nothing else someone bring the idea up to the hacksmith, or Adam savage and similar makers to try their hands at it
Get a dev from the game Jonathan reacts to so we can get a better understanding of how and why gun end up like they do in the game.
in for poorly formed decisions from bad devs
Problem is that'd only work for indie devs and b studios like cdpr where the ground level devs actually have input on the design. If he asked the future dev of battlefield 6 or far cry 7 about anything it'd be mostly dead, depressed stares and "marketing said it had to be like that".
Or just remember the actual Motto of Cyberpunk
Rule of Cool
Funny thing about that car analogy, there are cars in this game without any windows. They have a dome inside that projects everything captured by exterior cameras, giving you a pretty clear view.
I'm kind of curious about Jonathan's campaign against iron sights in future settings. I'd think that ironsights will never be obsolete because they are foolproof. Anything more complicated than a notch or a small sticking metal part is prone to malfunction. You can't "break" ironsights ( at least without some force that probably would be deadly to a gun wielder)
I would think that he is right in saying every full sized pistol will have a red dot pre-installed, but it will probably be removable or have BUIS.
Well, to be fair, it looks like a bit was edited out when he says "well, maybe not no more ironsights," which makes me think he qualified what he meant but it was cut out.
I'm guessing what he said was along the lines of "ironsights will always be there, but red-dots and similar will soon be included as standard with all factory-produced pistols, because the advantage they provide the user far outweighs the cost and risk of failure."
Just guessing, though.
@@peterclarke7240 he did say he goes on and on about guns specifics and history, so game spot edits a lot out and sometimes it sounds... A bit wrong.
The most annoying weapons of borderlands series
Borderlands 1 was pretty reasonable, but 2, prequel, and that other one went off the deep end. Oddly the Torgue is the least weird because the GyroJet was a thing.
If you fired more than one shot you weren't using a Jakobs
100% needs a Bane clip.
I am so happy the Kongou got some time in this video. It has a solid place in my heart and my inventory. You fight through hordes of enemies with a gun, you come to love it.
With every episode he moves his office deeper into the depths of the Royal armories
Wow, the Hundson H9 is like nearly just the Unity pistol in Cyberpunk.
Energy weapons
YES!!! Finally, I've waited for so long for another video of the weapons from Cyberpunk 2077. Let's go.
Nice to see Johnathan having fun after enduring the "what they have done to you" from vanguard.
16:57 Those might be the emergency mag releases for if the battery dies and you need to decouple the mag from the gun.
That is probably on of the more bizarre T-Shirts on the show.
Only a masterpiece of a game can have a collab like this to discuss the weapons/features that it has. The world is so diverse and immersive and has weapons, cyberware, perks/attributes, crafting and the relic. So many builds.
I love these ones where we look at scifi guns through a realistic lens. I'd love to see him take a look at the old Unreal tournament guns.
Jonathan needs to voice a gunsmith in a video game where he compliments or criticizes you based on how practical or goofy your gun setup is
An episode on the Metal Gear Solid series would be cool, particularly if Johnathan can critique/respond to how the characters describe the guns.
Jonathan: THAT'S AMAZING A GUN THAT HAS A TALKING BULLET THAT WEAR SHADES!
Jonathan's Brain: *Maintain you composure, professionalism*
Love the way he try to find a way of non realistic guns to work in our world. It's very nice.
Love to see more Destiny and Cyberpunk firearms critiques. There's a lotta sci-fi vs conventional things to break down with their lineup of guns
Skippy: happy slaughtering!
Gun expert: *maniacal laughter*
If they do cyberpunk again they should have a look at the single-use disposable plastic pistols that you can buy out of vending machines.
I thought they were useless in game, but really cool for world-building and not too far off from a current budget gun like a hi-point or something.
Yeah that was definitely a missed opportunity
I was hoping John would've mentioned the fact the Guillotine has an HK slap even though the latch goes down and V somehow hits it on the top and sets it back in place.
I still wanna hear him talk about the service weapon in Control
Fun fact: the final gun is also able to shoot through walls when fully charged, which makes it by far my favorite to use
This must be fun and interesting for the cyberpunk2077 devs to watch. Hope they see this
An honorable mention in relation to the holographic type sights.
Seems to me he's atleast played some fps's. Maybe still does
@@piotr78 he has played classic fps like quake, but doesn't get a lot of time to play latest games.
The bullpup pistol is named the Quasar in the game. The bullets are birdshot which are fired using electromagnetic rails.
I appreciate an expert who can evaluate the "real world" practicality but also understands "rule of cool."
It would be nice to see Jonathan react to Borderland 3's guns. It has unique and weird guns, some of them have weird magazine placement and weird barrels.
"I quite like things that I can't figure out, when they look like they might work."
My favorite quote from this one.
Skippy and John's reaction just made my day.
Loving the C&Rsenal shirt! I got that one too.
They have added more guns so hope those can be reviewed aswell love this! :DDD
Bruh weapons from upgrade are here in that video
Umbra is from patch 1.6
Hunt: Showdown has added a lot of new weapons and tools/explosives. It would be cool to see another video done on that.
This is awesome. I hope there will be episode 2 since there is bunch of other guns in the game to check out. I totally want to see what Jonathan thinks about Comrade's hammer.
12:40 That looks very similar to the USFA Zip 22 pistol, similar in design as its a bullpup .22lr pistol that takes Ruger 10/22 mags.
Ferguson: Reciprocating handles, which are frown upon at the moment and probably always will be.
FN SCAR: *And I took that personally*
Would love to see him react to the guns of "The Order 1886"
i doubt Jonathan reads these, but the answer to the smart guns, is that they all are supposedly using "micro missiles." and not conventional bullets, which is why you never see anything eject, and such sharp turns.
Please could Mr Ferguson react to some of the more unusual guns in Warframe, with seperate videos for Tenno and Grineer firearms if possible. Think Jonathan will have a blast trying to get his head around the strange guns in that game XD
i’m so glad he appreciates the visual more than the weapon’s functionality, knowing that the game was made more from that than realism
The DR-12 looks like something KEL-TEC would make.
What do you mean pilots have some type of huts in thier planes or helmets?

As far as i understand it, Budget Arms guns are designed to be completed by a 3d printer in a Budget Arms Vending Machine. So they are probably all using weird hybrid parts for interchangeability.
