Yeah I really like that there's someone from Gamespot that gives the expert who presumably hasn't play the game, more context. In another gaming channel, which I won't name, they get experts to react to gaming stuff, but they just sit the expert there and watch the gaming footage without giving them any context, so a lot of times, the expert couldn't really react properly or you just know that they'd be able to give more insight if they knew the context more.

The Shotgun is essentially a double barrel Gauss/ Coil gun. Charging the gun allows you to create a series of electromagnetic pulses, accelerating the projectiles even faster than using only the powder charge.

      @AmaraTheBarbarian Рік тому +16

@@gwoody4003 you would need something ferrous, like steel or iron but it wouldn't necessarily have to be entirely ferrous. Steel in the context of a shotgun enhanced in this way would be fine but for rifles the outer layer would still need to be something that could be compressed to engage the rifling so such munitions would likely be steel core, or perhaps a saboted steel projectile. Of course in this universe having armor implanted under your skin and metal bones is a thing, so steel core armor piercing munitions may not only be normal but necessary.

If I'm not mistaken that large rectangle under the tech shotgun is probably a battery, but it requires capacitors to create a high enough current. Those 12 little squares strapped to the barrel are probably those capacitors. I think the game uses animation on them to show the capacitors recharging (because in reality capacitors don't really look all that cool or fancy). So basically I think that gun is a hand held railgun that uses propellant from the shells to assist the acceleration of the slugs? That's the only reason I can imagine such a gun would have recoil.

2:09 I'm guessing the in-game shotgun is a normal shotgun, but with electromagnets added to give it the additional functionality of a coilgun/MAC gun. Those arrays of greeblies are magnetic coils that accelerate the projectile to lethal speeds... or they would if it wasn't already a shotgun. Instead, I'm guessing that they increase the muzzle velocity from a normal 12-gauge buckshot payload's MV all the way to some kind of hypsersonic velocity. Gunpowder make pellets go fast, magnet assist pellets go *even faster!*
It would work in 2 stages, with the rounds firing probably tripping a perpendicular bore laser that sends a signal to the gun's onboard computer to begin the magnetic acceleration process of the added-on coilgun parts.
"But it's just buckshot, made of lead; it's not magnetic enough to be affected by something like this."
I know that lead isn't magnetic, *but,* the wadding very much could be some magnetic material instead of plastic - and thus highly receptive to the forces exerted by the coils.
Basically just shotgun + coilgun = shotgun but the pellets fly faster & hit harder.

I haven't played it, but my reasoning for merging revolving chambers and a grip magazine is to lower the bore axis. The magazine feeds the rounds into the top chamber, the chamber then rotates so that the round is fired from extremely low bore axis and there you go: magazine capacity of a modern pistol, recoil mitigation of a Mateba/Chiappa revolver.
Seing how much power that thing has, I believe compensating for recoil that way would be a valid, if not unconventional and overengineered way to go about it.

I always like your videos anyway (especially compared to some other 'experts' who make no attempt to understand what they're looking at) but this one especially you really go above and beyond to try to understand the how and why of a particular weapon's characteristic and functionality. The best kind of analysis of fiction is trying to understand the world decisions first, rather than going straight to picking holes in it, and I (as a fiction writer) appreciate that.

The thing I think should've been mentioned is with all tech weapons, aka anything that has a "charge time", they're stated to be guns that use electro-magnetic acceleration, including the shotgun first shown at the beginning. In-game tooltips even like to mention rail gun technology specifically.
I think these criticism / analyses would be interesting to see if they were also looking at the guns in terms of "how plausibly did they design these guns for what they intended them to be".
But I can understand how that could introduce a level of observer's bias, where then you'd no longer analyze the gun with a fresh pair of eyes but instead try to look for specific elements to justify that thing and overlook other aspects, so all the same interesting video to go over, but it would've been worth to hear the first impression then have the guy who captured the footage explain "Okay, so this is what they intended this to be", and then to hear "Huh, okay, that's plausible" or "yeah no they kinda missed the mark on this one, could've done it like this instead".
Personal opinion only, though. - Cool video series as always, nevertheless.

Haven't played the game, but just from looking at that shotgun I think I can piece together its history.
The base gun is probably a retro thing, a cyberpunk take on a classic coach gun. It's the kind of thing you sell to folks who want some western flavor in their neon-lit street battles.
The electric parts look like later additions to make it a two-stage weapon. Standard chemical propellant to get the payload moving, sequenced coils to accelerate it past the point of sanity.

@Jonathan, all the 'electric' type weapons in this video are 'tech weapons' in-game, meaning that they function via electromagnetics. Like railguns or coilguns.
Single-shot electromag weapons charge up to shoot through walls, but anything like an smg or assault-rifle is single-shot when uncharged, and full-auto/burst-fire when charged.
Not sure how that's supposed to work, but that's how it is.

There is actually a modern (sort of) gun that fires bursts that cannot be interrupted (but only when improperly modified). If you cram two recoil springs into a kpist m/45 "swedish k", it will dump the entire magazine with one trigger pull at a much higher cyclic rate than normal. This is according to my father who had one in his military service.

The Luger/Revolver pistol could work on the principle that the is only 2 "Chambers in it. So, all the Toggle is doing is extracting the top chamber and then loading the next round into the bottom. So, as it fires the toggle extracts the top empty casing, the cylinder rotates the bottom cylinder to the top, then the toggle closes loading a new round into the now empty bottom chamber and hooking the extractor on the top chamber which has an empty casing in it. Gun will fire from the bottom chamber in this scenario.

Probably more like four out of six chambers, with an extractor linked to the bolt taking the empty from the previous shot out each time it's fired.
