Jeff has said in interviews that his music teachers told him he'd never be a composer and that he should just stick to guitar because he was good at that. He sure showed them. His compositions here are incredible and from a musical and lyrical stance he only seems to improve. Also, fun fact about "I May Fall," it was written about Aragorn from Lord of the Rings and just also fit well into RWBY. I think Jeff confirmed this at a PAX panel one year. Amazing stuff guys, one of the best reactions I've seen for the soundtrack, can't wait until Volume 2 on Monday!
One thing I like about RED like Roses and Ruby's frustration is that Ruby isn't really an angsty person, but that frustration tends to come out with her being too reckless and rushing headfirst into things in the beginning. Rushing into combat with no communication, taking on things much bigger than she normally does all by herself.
I've always taken I May Fall as the true meaning of what it is to be Huntsman/Huntress. It is your job to put your life on the line and safeguard humanity from the terrible destruction of the Grimm and to make the world a better place. To never give up no matter what, even if that costs you your life.
It's always hit me more as a song to keep your head up, even if it's just youthful invincibility. While acknowledging the fact that you can die, it's going to take far more extreme circumstances than what you're currently facing to make it happen. Every verse paints about as dark a picture as possible, with a slight exception with the last one. Without the "but not like this", it would be a rather dark, not happy song. As it is, however, it's more of a rallying cry around "it could be worse".

34:33 This will be spoiler territory for Jordie, but about the Yellow Trailer "I Burn" including the other three's themes: It could be more foreshadowing Yang's role as the "mother" of the group and also referencing Yang having to raise Ruby as a child. The really first comes up in Volume 2 (and I would suggest bringing this up after that episode in Volume 2 comes up), and Yang really lays it out in Volume 5.
Casey was actually only 13 when recording "Red like Roses". Compare her birthday and the release date of the Red Trailer. Jeff Williams is 48 now, so he was about 43 during the time of the trailers. "I may fall" is my absolute favourite song so far (meaning up to Volume 5). I cannot help but seeing... a certain scene from a later Volume before my inner eye everytime I hear it (you all know what scene I am talking about), and I really wonder for what purpose this song was created as early as Volume 1 when it only was played in the credits of Chapter 2 back then. Anyone got any insight in that regard?

Red Like Roses Pt 2 is definitely my favorite song and, much like you Jordie, I have a deeper understanding due to losing a parent young. My mom died a couple years ago, she was still in her 50s, and the feelings expressed in this song are pretty spot on - the confusion, frustration, all of it.
These reactions are what reaction videos should be. I hate seeing reactors stare blankly at someone's video, chuckling here and there, or making a small shallow comment, then ending the video as soon as its over. This commentary really makes me appreciate the series more, and appreciate your zeal for it as well.
Have you tried watching CharFox? He stays relatively silent during the video, but that's because he's trying to listen and pay attention to things. He will then dedicate a lot of time discussing the video, usually making entire videos ranging from 30min to 1 1/2 hours long just talking about the episode. He doesn't start doing this until middle of Volume 2, but his thoughts and analysis are some of the best, especially for the soundtracks. Just recently he made 5 videos(4 technically, the first was the soundtrack and a WoR reaction) discussing Volume 3, each 40 minutes to 2 1/2 hours long :D
He has a lot of pauses between thoughts while he's trying to organize his thoughts, and he doesn't do much editing so it might get awkward staring at him while he's thinking, lol. He makes some super bang on predictions though.
Btw there is a very good lyric video creator called FlyntofRWBY. Try to see if you can use some of his videos. He even gets the lyrics straight from Jeff Williams. I know he has all the songs from volume 3 and 4. :D

I must say, while "From Shadows" is probablly my favourite track, musicaly, out of Volume 1, followed closely by "Red Like Roses Part II", I really strongly agree with your sentiment about Weiss songs across the series. Lots of them end up sticking with me and being highlights of the soundtrack. The line which resonates with me emotionally the most is probably "Mirror, what's inside me? Tell me can a heart be made of stone?"

One thing I've noticed about the Yellow Trailer song is how the remix changes each other trailer song. Red's is gone through twice, White is very short, and Black goes on the longest, but is also the most distorted. This indicates the relationship Yellow has with each: Red is the closest, as it is gone through twice and is the clearest, White is barely known or interacted with, Black is Yellow's partner, but nothing is really shared, causing confusion. Yellow knows herself and is incredibly confident in that, leading to the badassness at the end.
It won’t be for a while, but I may fall also features one of my favourite fight sequences from the first major arc (season 1-3), it’s just as epic and amazing as the song, which is kick ass awesome as you know
As a note, there are a LOT of Guitar solos. Some of them are so awesome though. I completely love how you are telling the stories of the characters in the way that aren't spoilers but are in a way true. It's just awesome!
My personal take on Red Like Roses’ placement in chapter eight is the line “always closer”. I don’t know, I’ve just always felt like Ruby was taking another step closer to her mother by following in her footsteps as a huntress, and that could be a potential reason for why it was used there.

I guess the song isn't suggesting Weiss felt quite as alone and depressed as I always thought.

We should also remember that the red trailer was Monty's 'sales pitch'. so presumably in listening to and watching it, we hear and see PRECISELY what he intended. an interesting notion. As for Gold, remember that Yang were NEVER far from Ruby before the latter left without her in season 4. what with their separation at the start of the school year being prevented by oz allowing ruby in two years early. and Yang also functioned as a replacement mom for ruby back when Summer vanished. so, yeah. Total Mother/Sister/Guardian. Don't expect many to get near Ruby with evil in mind in season 6 without dealing with Yang first. As for Yang's trailer....it gives evidence to a side of the young woman the group don't get to see. Yang is far and away the more mature of the gang....nevermind her 'thrillseeker' facade. in a way, you could consider the modified version of her song Yang with the group. the unmodified version is Yang alone. :)
Wings is a song about Blake sand from Yang’s perspective. It’s not official (I don’t think) but there are a lot of clues in the show that support it. First of, the songs says, “Patience, is hard to find” foreshadowing Yang and Blake’s talk in volume 2. It than says, “Shadows seem to fills your mind.” A reference to Blake’s song, “from shadows” The line that makes people think it’s from Weiss is the “twelve hours is a long time” which is almost directly quoting Weiss but applies to Yang as well. But the line after that is “when your searching with no hope in sight” which almost directly quotes Yang when she says, “this is hopeless.” It wasn’t until Volume 5 when we got more evidence pointing that it was from Yang. In All That Matters, a song confirmed to be from Yang to Blake. She says, “thought that I could pull you from the shadows, maybe help you find your wings and fly.” Referencing a line from Wings and the song itself. That and when Blake and Yang make eye contact for the first time in Volume 5, you can hear a slow piano version of Wings.

'I may fall' might be the one moved down from season 4 as replacement for the one deemed too spoilery for season 1, and moved to season 4. just a thought. much too big a song for any one character.
Wings is probably a misplaced volume-wise, but I think it is about Blake, sung by Weiss. 12 hours, is a long night. Weiss: I've had 12 hours to think about this...and I don't care.'' Weiss definitely would say encouraging things to Blake now. She is the sappiest one of all the RWBY girls.
I think it's actually from Yang. Because you're right; these softer sentiments couldn't come naturally from Weiss until now in the story, well past the episode and the "12 hours" referenced in the song. Though even now it's difficult for me to picture her being quite this openly familiar, calling Blake 'baby' and such. Yang meanwhile is the one who actually does help ease the feelings the song describes in Blake, in a way that echoes the approach in the song. Also, it's worth noting that the chorus strongly resembles the bridge of Gold ("dry your eyes now, baby/broken wings won't hold you down/you'll take flight soon, baby" vs "close your eyes/don't you cry/love's around you/in time you'll fly"). I mean maybe Jeff is just blatantly repeating himself, but I like to think it's more a sign they're from the same character--especially given the relevant presence of birds in said character's life makes it a fitting metaphor for her to use.
For the love of all that is musical, when you do Volume 3 Finale, let Jordie react to the credits music right after watching the volume. Don't try to talk about the chapter over that music. More so than any other chapter, that credit music was part of the chapter, and I've yet to see a good reaction to that music from someone who was musically inclined that was done right after watching that chapter.

On Mirror Mirror, I think you're both right.
It was even earlier then Jaune's episodes, it was one of the Shining Beacon episodes

I believe that red like roses is placed on chapter 8 because fighting the nevermore is the first time ruby puts her life in danger in a real fight and the first step in following her mothers footsteps
We should also remember that the red trailer was Monty's 'sales pitch'. so presumably in listening to and watching it, we hear and see PRECISELY what he intended. an interesting notion.
As for Gold, remember that Yang were NEVER far from Ruby before the latter left without her in season 4. what with their separation at the start of the school year being prevented by oz allowing ruby in two years early. and Yang also functioned as a replacement mom for ruby back when Summer vanished. so, yeah. Total Mother/Sister/Guardian. Don't expect many to get near Ruby with evil in mind in season 6 without dealing with Yang first.
As for Yang's trailer....it gives evidence to a side of the young woman the group don't get to see. Yang is far and away the more mature of the gang....nevermind her 'thrillseeker' facade. in a way, you could consider the modified version of her song Yang with the group. the unmodified version is Yang alone. :)
I love the subtlety in Gold of "Like the smell of a Rose, on a Summer's day/I will be there to take all your fears away".

Wings is a song about Blake sand from Yang’s perspective. It’s not official (I don’t think) but there are a lot of clues in the show that support it.
First of, the songs says, “Patience, is hard to find” foreshadowing Yang and Blake’s talk in volume 2.
It than says, “Shadows seem to fills your mind.” A reference to Blake’s song, “from shadows”
The line that makes people think it’s from Weiss is the “twelve hours is a long time” which is almost directly quoting Weiss but applies to Yang as well. But the line after that is “when your searching with no hope in sight” which almost directly quotes Yang when she says, “this is hopeless.”
It wasn’t until Volume 5 when we got more evidence pointing that it was from Yang. In All That Matters, a song confirmed to be from Yang to Blake. She says, “thought that I could pull you from the shadows, maybe help you find your wings and fly.” Referencing a line from Wings and the song itself. That and when Blake and Yang make eye contact for the first time in Volume 5, you can hear a slow piano version of Wings.

I actually thought you would probably skip “I may fall” until a ‘more appropriate’ time, whenever that may be. ;) It will now be even less fresh for Jordie should it ever happen to raise its head again in a more appropriate place in the future, now that you’ve already read the lyrics and analysed it. :(

'I may fall' might be the one moved down from season 4 as replacement for the one deemed too spoilery for season 1, and moved to season 4. just a thought. much too big a song for any one character.
In the beginning i couldn't stand Weiss. But she grew on me and is now in my top 5 characters.
In the future I suggest u watch FlyntofRWBY. He almost always gets the lyrics right and pictures that fit into the song.

Weiss definitely would say encouraging things to Blake now. She is the sappiest one of all the RWBY girls.
I think it's actually from Yang. Because you're right; these softer sentiments couldn't come naturally from Weiss until now in the story, well past the episode and the "12 hours" referenced in the song. Though even now it's difficult for me to picture her being quite this openly familiar, calling Blake 'baby' and such.
Yang meanwhile is the one who actually does help ease the feelings the song describes in Blake, in a way that echoes the approach in the song. Also, it's worth noting that the chorus strongly resembles the bridge of Gold ("dry your eyes now, baby/broken wings won't hold you down/you'll take flight soon, baby" vs "close your eyes/don't you cry/love's around you/in time you'll fly"). I mean maybe Jeff is just blatantly repeating himself, but I like to think it's more a sign they're from the same character--especially given the relevant presence of birds in said character's life makes it a fitting metaphor for her to use.

For the love of all that is musical, when you do Volume 3 Finale, let Jordie react to the credits music right after watching the volume. Don't try to talk about the chapter over that music. More so than any other chapter, that credit music was part of the chapter, and I've yet to see a good reaction to that music from someone who was musically inclined that was done right after watching that chapter.
