Another FYI: Jeff Willians, the writer for all these songs, retired from music after the 8th season. Casey took over in his place. As such, the Volume 9 soundtrack is all her and her band, Ok Goodnight.
OK I can't wait to see the direction he takes the music over the seasons

Atleast he left it in good hands.
He also kept all of the OST copyrights. RT, and by extension Warner Bros, didn't/doesn't have the rights to the music. All proceeds go to Jeff and Casey and the guest singers.
A few fun facts and suggestions:
Casey Lee Williams is the main female singer, her father is Jeff Williams and he writes the lyrics and performs the music, and Casey's mother is the other singer in Red Like Roses Part 2
I did notice that a few of the videos you saw don't have entirely accurate lyrics on the screen, so if you react to the soundtracks of the future Volumes i recommend the UA-cam channel "Flynt of RWBY". They have almost every song, and got the lyrics directly from Jeff himself!
Lastly, there's someone on UA-cam ("Caleb Hyles") who sang a few of the RWBY songs, and he was so good that he got to be the official singer for an actual song in Volume 7! I recommend his version of Red Like Roses, because he had Casey Lee herself as the other singer
Also they basically wrote a full album plus extra songs for every Volume of the show! That is 9 or so full albums in less then 9 years! Try to get any band to do that and damn you will have people wanting to become cashiers or something after the first few!
It's dope that the whole family was included in the soundtrack. I'll remember that for volume 2. I like that the included the community in that way

This being the first season, Casey was 13 years old when she sung these vocals.
also props to jeff for having such faith in his daughter at this age to the point that he even wrote those notes for her knowing she could and would hit them
She was 12 for some of these because she sang it for the trailers before she turned 13
This one was a Father Daughter team and it was phenomenal
So the composer is Jeff, the singer for a lot of the songs is his daughter (I can’t remember her name atm) which at the time of recording these songs she was a pre teen I believe, and the woman who was the second person who sang in part 2 was the mother
Red Like Roses doesn't hit the same without all of Rubys slices and gunshots with the wolf sounds
RIP Chester. We'll forever miss you, but your music will live on with us.

Red Like Roses Part 2 is one od my favorite songs of all time.
It especially hurts as someone whose mother died when i was a kid.

Something that makes it so fun to go back and watch reactors do the soundtrack is that some of the lyrics are for stuff that won't happen for a few seasons and it hits different once you know

I don't think anyone else has stated it explicitly, but Jeff pretty much puts the entire OST together; songs and just backgrounds during the show.
Music, lyrics, vocals, drums, guitar, keyboard, etc.
Lamar adds his own bit and later Casey helps with and outright writes a few songs before taking over in V9. There are some larger more orchestral pieces with more instruments later on that Jeff hires for, but for all intents and purposes, he is the band.
All of these songs are freaking amazing! All the volumes music is!

It's also important to note moving forward that not all of the songs should be taken literally, they're more meant to be representative of the characters and their thought processes in a broad sense.

I see you connecting with the guitar solos in these songs. That's Casey's (vocals) father Jeff. He's an absolute monster on a guitar. Her mother is also a musician as well. So music just flows in her blood.

FYI: Rooster Teeth revealed that they have around 15-20 seasons planned out for the show. The music team has access to all of these notes and do incorporate future events into the songs. So, you are being spoiled, but you won't know how you are being spoiled until you watch the whole series.

@@RobertStukowski They never said anything about 15 to 20 seasons. They said something about 11 at some point, I'm sure of that, but never anything about 15-20! That's a ridiculous number!
@@gazelle_diamond9768 their initial number was 10, but they kept expanding as they discovered that they had too much story and had to split some of their original volumes into two. They even speculated 20 at some point. Though, 12-15 is more likely as they could see the ending even before the shutdown.
Interestingly, the song I may Fall shows up primarily in Volume 3, but isn't on that season's soundtrack. In Volume 1 it was played at the very end of an episode/chapter leading into the credits. My guess is they recorded the song but didn't have a good place for it, and then used it in Volume 3.

Red Like Roses Part 1 is Ruby’s theme/ the song heard in the Red trailer. Although it is considered as Ruby’s theme, the lyrics talks about each member of Team RWBY.
Mirror Mirror - Weiss’ theme and heard through the White trailer.
From Shadows - Blake’s theme and heard through the Black trailer. Though, some people think the song is akin to the White Fang as a whole. Jeff Williams (Casey’s father) joins in to sing a few lyrics as well. He does this a few times throughout future volumes too.
I Burn (Remix)/ I Burn - The song itself has two versions. The first being the one we hear during the Yellow trailer, which has all 4 girls’ themes. The actual version of the song (which includes Lamar’s rap) plays at the end of one of the volume’s episodes (I forget the episode). Lamar does rap a few times in other songs outside of songs tailored to Yang, but majority of Yang’s songs will have his raps.
Gold: Yes this is a Yang song, but this is Yang’s softer side, rather than I Burn where that one is her rough side she shows when she fights. This song is basically Yang singing to Ruby, showing off that sisterly love. Also is played at the end of one of the volume’s episodes.
I May Fall - The premise is of course regarding losing a fight, and paying the ultimate price. However, not going down without a fight. Despite this song being introduced at the end of one of this volume’s episodes, this song does make a return in one of the future volumes.
Red Like Roses Part 2 - Ruby’s theme again, but this time more fleshed out. The lyrics are Ruby and her mother talking to each other, and it’s fitting too considering Casey and her mother are the ones singing, Casey singing Ruby’s part and her mother singing Ruby’s mother’s part. This plays during the Nevermore fight in episode 8 Players and Pieces.
Wings - It may not seem like it, but this is a Blake song, or rather it’s the rest of Team RWBY talking to Blake after she had left due to her running away when she accidentally stated she was a Faunus. This song played as the outro song for the volume.
Personally, I would argue that Wings is specifically a Yang to Blake song… While I initially thought it might be the team too, maybe Weiss because of the 12 hours reference, it doesn’t really fit the others in my opinion… It also seems more like a Yang song…
It’s a comforting song and Yang is the type to comfort people… While Ruby might be supportive, she isn’t really comforting… And at the moment Weiss is somewhat cold still, even if it seems like she might actually care and want to support them… But guess who has another comforting song this volume? One that also references flying a few times?…
… And this may be cheating and I guess a little up for interpretation, but Wings is arguably specifically referenced in a later Yang and Blake song too…
… And if any of the team is using the term baby, you know it’s Yang, whether it’s motherly or flirty, that’s so Yang lol.
There may be other things I’m forgetting, but yeah… While Weiss is the one that says 12 hours, Yang was with Weiss at the time and it doesn’t seem like Weiss stuff to say… Arguably Ruby met up with Blake earlier, so the 12 hours might not apply…
I don’t know, it might still be possible that it’s the other teammates together, but I’m only seeing Blake and Yang references, so I think that is much more likely.
if its a Yang song to Blake, I'm sorry but it could be interpreted just as much as a Sun to Blake song...the song "Like Morning Follows Night" makes references to this song too. I dont care about the shipping war, but its important to understand that the double references. I think there is a chance the song comes from multiple perspectives at different times. @@KitsyX

And to answer your question about what kind of world they live in, in a word: Fantasy. To be a little more descriptive, it's kind of medieval with some futuristic technology. So kind of like Final Fantasy games - people running around with swords, but also boarding airships and advanced transportation, and even robotics technology that are not too far beyond the real world.
You mentioned magic. There has not been one instance of magic use - people have auras(which is akin to chi, chakra, the force) which protects them and what they can project it to, for example, a loaf of bread in a food fight(that's how they were able to dual with them, but the moment the bread left Pyrrha's person, Yang was able to break it)
And of course, there are semblances, which are not magic, but are more like mutant powers in X-Men(unique abilities to individuals).
This conversation reminds me of Uncle's quote from Jackie Chan Adventures : "Magic must defeat magic!"
You'll find out the type of setting that the world is later on. Don't worry.

I don’t just watch your RWBY content but it always stands out on your page lmao, in a good way ofc. My favorite songs are probably all from Vol 1 cuz they hit it out the park w this one bro, RLR Part 2, TWBTD and I May Fall are all straight bangers. Had to watch the whole thing just for that
Also, RWBY is kind of a SAO-like universe where it’s part fantasy part sci-fi, but there’s a bit more sci-fi/modern than fantasy imo.
Scrolls are kinda just phones, guns and airships exist, etc.

Jeff Williams who wrote the songs is Casey Lee Williams dad. She started singing some of these songs when she was 12 and the others when she was 13. In Red Like Roses pt 2 its Casey and her mom singin together. Her mom is also a singer and has been giving Casey lessons since she was young. All the songs are about the characters and the first song like you said is about the show as a whole. They do amazing in telling the story of RWBY through the songs if you listen to all of them especially I May Fall. It wont make sense until I think the end of season 2. When you get to the end yo should really relisten

5:28 They actually kind of do this! In the last episode of volume 9 (so the most recent ep overall), at the very end there is an emotional instrumental reprise of "This Will Be The Day" and it's amazing!

Its ironic how your suggestion to bring intro one back for volume ten is actually really interesting. We actually had the instrumental for intro Vol one [This Will Be The Day] play at the very end of volume nine...so it honestly fits.[which isnt a spoiler of anything haha, we get recurring instrumentals of songs all over the place, which is why the ost's are important to the story]

A lot of the songs are character songs or characters talking to another character. Which is why the soundtrack is so important to listen to because it adds to the story.
This will be the day and wings are openings and endings and you basically got them down. Trailer songs are also obvious, though from shadows is a duet with Blake and Adam (the man she was fighting with on the train and left and before someone screams spoilers his name was said multiple times in the trailer) talking about the faunus being discriminated against and why they take drastic measures.

Red like roses part 2 is Ruby and her mom talking about y'know, trauma. (this was actually sung between Casey and her mom which is pretty cool)
All in all volume 1 soundtrack is a banger of a soundtrack and is important in knowing the character's mindsets through their trailer songs and also the songs that come after. Volume 2 soundtrack is even more of a banger and I can't wait till you react to that one also.
