    Thank you for telling people that sugar is bad for them. My Slinky is on a total raw diet too, and telling ppl that chicken is best for treats, thumbs up. Not too many people know enough good things about ferrets. I'm on a forum called "Ferret Love", and went on there to get knowledge on raw diet. I researched Google for training and got a link to you. :)

      My ferret don’t like chicken and neither does he likes his chicken treats for ferrets I bought at the pet store, it is banana flavored so I thought it would work? Nope, he ate some and it didn’t seem to be something he’d really want to eat (Instead of refilling his bowl, I put some treats instead so he had no choice but to eat them. I refilled the bowl with his normal food right after ofc) There were also peanut butter flavored treats.

    Some ferret owners give raw egg yolk up to twice a week. If you go to the holistic ferret forum I'm sure they have more information about this. I have given it to Joey a couple of times and he did enjoy it :O)

    Thanks for informing ferret owners. 20 years ago it wasn't known that sweets are bad for ferrets. I used to give my ferret raisins. It was his favorite treat ever. He would shake them before he ate them and would do anything for them. He would get super hyper after eating them but would suddenly crash. One day I realized that he had no energy anymore and took him in to the vet and found out that he had problems with his pancreas. He had surgery and as he was recovering, the vet gave him some vitamin suppliment to help him but that seemed to have a bad effect on him and he died. I was devistated! Never feed your ferret raisons or anything sweet. It's tempting because they love it so much but it can kill them.

      @TaiMizuki 10 років тому

      Joey TheTrainedFerret Yeah, yolks are fine. I'm surprised your vet said scrambled egg is fine too as that requires beating and mixing with the white and quite often also people add milk. Both of these I assure you are not good for the ferret.

    I only give the boiled chicken as a treat. Just the cooked chicken breast isn't enough to fulfill the nutritional needs of a ferret. Those that choose to feed a complete raw diet to their ferrets have to give organs, bones, etc in order to give the ferret everything is needs. Joey gets Wysong Ferret Epigen 90 kibble, the various treats in this video, as well as frozen thawed mice (never live!) every other day.

    I agree. Once every two weeks is WAY more than needed, by far. But, if you have a cat, that pops in a box, a water rub down can only go so far. I hold off as long as I can. I have found my sprite snuffling through the cat box on SEVERAL occasions. At some point, enough is enough and the soap comes out. Just try to bathe them as little as possible.

  • @burgerzach
    @burgerzach 11 років тому

    Oh no! :( Torgo loves Cashews. He goes nuts (ha) for them. It's a very rare treat that I've been giving him after his biweekly bath. Guess I won't be giving him that anymore.
    He also loves bacon. I feel like low-sodium turkey bacon is best for him in the bacon department because it isn't so salty and doesn't have as much fat as pork bacon. Do you think that's okay?

  • @RatherCynical
    @RatherCynical 11 років тому

    That's still way more than suggested. For perspective, once every two months is 'frequent' for bathing ferrets. Rinsing ferrets without soap or shampoo to lather is another story altogether.

  • @TheTrainedFerret
    @TheTrainedFerret  11 років тому

    Sorry that Torgo won't be getting anymore cashews, though it is for his health so I applaud you for making that change! Ferrets are great at liking things they shouldn't (a lot like people-ha) I would not feed Torgo bacon either unfortunately. Even low sodium is too much for them and since the meat is cured it may cause them harm. Any meat that has been preserved in an unnatural way isn't a good idea. Check out the Holistic Ferret Forum or the American Ferret Association website for more info.

    1. when I put the new flavor treats in my ferret Roxanne's bowl my bros kit ferret Joe kept eating the treats how do I prevent that since we only have one bowl?
    2. how am I supposed to introduce the cooked meat treats and egg if they only eat store bought food that is if i have to at all?
    once again thnx i am hopping for an answer as soon as possible!😊

    • @TheTrainedFerret
      @TheTrainedFerret  8 років тому

      I'd just separate the ferrets when you give treats so they can't steal each other's. You don't have to give them the cooked meat or egg yolk, but they are healthy for them. If you buy the store bought kind be sure they are healthy. They should just contain meat and not just flavoring. Also don't give too many. Healthy treats and a high quality diet with help your ferret have a great life! Be sure you watch my video on what food I feed Joey.

    blue buffalo is a great brand. they are for dogs and cats but there are treats that you can feed ferrets. I have a 6 month old ferret named chichi. is it good to give her that? and my mom gave chichi these baby food cereal things. I don't know if they have sugar but i'm concerned.

    • @TheTrainedFerret

      I'm not familiar with the blue buffalo treats so I can't really say one way or the other on those. As for the cereal, please do not let the ferret have it. Ferrets bodies are only designed for meat and anything aside from that can be harmful to them. They are strict carnivores.

    How do you get a ferret that has been raised on kibble (and is past the age of food association) to start liking meat treats?
    I've tried and she will just turn her nose up at anything. All she will eat is her kibble.

      @@meganvantienen2575 That was an ooold comment.
      I now am an experienced raw feeder.
      The trick is to simply introduce meat and eggs alog with their kibble in very small amounts. Very tiny amounts at first or they'll turn their nose up at all the food. Gradually add more of the meat and eggs while giving less of the kibble and eventually they will wean off the kibble.

    My ferret HATES meat, he will specifically pluck it out of his bowl and leave it to dry in his cage. Unfortunately he loves apples and cheerios. Any suggestions as to how to change this?

    • @TheTrainedFerret
      @TheTrainedFerret  7 років тому

      Hannah Reall first, stop giving apples and cheerios. Second, what is the meat that his regular food is made of?

    • @hannahreall8287
      @hannahreall8287 7 років тому

      It is made of chicken and chicken by products. In terms of chicken, I've tried both raw and cooked. He literally would not eat any meat or treats until I accidentally dropped a cheerio on the floor one day and he ate it, but that is the only thing he has been willing to try so far.

    • @TheTrainedFerret
      @TheTrainedFerret  10 років тому

      a great cage (i have a ferret nation which i love), plenty of blankets, stuffed animals that are safe (not hard plastic eyes that could cause possible chocking, etc) , You'll need a good quality food. If you choose to feed kibble, please search online for the "More Dooks Ferret Food Chart" This will give you a list of foods ranked best to worst. You'll need a hammock without a fleece liner. Young ferrets may pull at that, swallow it, and get a blockage which can be lethal. Litter boxes.... I think Ferret World on youtube has good videos on what you'll need also so check her out.

    what ferret kibble do you use for joey? and do you mix it with any other foods?

    • @TheTrainedFerret
      @TheTrainedFerret  10 років тому

      ChelseaGunners He is currently getting a mix of Wysong Epigen 90 Digestive supprt, Orijen Cat & Kitten, and Stella and Chewy's freeze dried duck. Please note that these are sometimes hard to find in stores and I order a lot online. Some pet stores don't necessarily have the healthiest foods available for ferrets.

    Ferrets shouldn't be bathed that often. They should be bathed no more than once every other week. The more you bathe them, the stinkier they get. The oils on their skin go into overproduction and cause more smell. When you bathe a ferret, it drys their skin out, even with the Aloe ferret shampoo. Mine got a bath 3 days ago. Before that, they hadn't had a bath in...2 months? It seems like they would get stinkier, but just keep the cage clean and wash the blankets more often, not the ferrets. :)

    what is the ferret eating routine? like, should just leave his normal food out or like a dog, do they separate their meal times?
    speaking of routines, you should do ''JOEY'S MORNING ROUTINE'' or'' JOEY'S DAY ROUTINE'' or even ''JOEY'S NIGHT ROUTINE'' that would be fab!

      Please do not feed grapes. They are actually toxic to many pets including dogs (Google it). Ferrets really should only have meat.

    My ferrets don't want to eat any meat and I am Trying to feed them but they don't want them. I heard it is very important to feed ferrets meat. Should I be worried and Is there a way I can make my ferrets eat meat?

    • @lexyjordan4391

      Hannah Rodriguez You should find a way to get them meat. They are strictly carnivores. Try mice or regular ferret food
