never thought of getting individual toothbrushes. Very informative video. I have been brushing my ferrets teeth for a little while I actually use a cat toothpaste that they love which makes the brushing process have a little more cooperation my one girl frequently tries to get seconds.
@TSMYF1 I don't find that odd at all actually. Baby food is just mush, ferrets tend to get worse teeth of softer foods because it sticks to their teeth and gums producing more plaque which turns to tartar. Plus I would also check the sugar and carb content on the packet as you may be surprised with how much you find in there. I would sugget that you regularly brush her teeth if she can't eat bones :) - Stef
Thank you so much for this highly informative video! - I'm going to get my first ferret soon, and I heard that there were many things you had to do for them, so I wanted to get all the information I could on them before I went out and got one. I was actually wondering about the toothbrush type you'd use, and how you'd actually get a ferret to allow you to do such a thing to their mouth! So again, thank you for this video on how and what exactly to do!
I strongly suggest adopting. Not only will you save a life for a little one, but adoption centers can also match the right ferret with you. Ferrets at pet stores are often from Marshall, which has great products for ferrets, but the animals themselves don't tend to be treated well/properly. They are known to be a ferret mill.
You should be able to purchase them at pet stores that sell reptiles or even a reptile store. The 'dead mice' (Pinky) are primarily for reptiles but other animals, such as ferrets, can eat them too! Make sure you know how to thaw it properly though.
Is there anything to do to get that gray tartar and plaque off my ferrets' teeth myself via a dental pick or something? They are supper chill with me poking around in their mouths. I have never had them undergo anesthesia, so I am quite nervous about that aspect.
I had ferrets like that years ago. I found the best way was to stop feeding the dry completely and only feed whole animals they wont starve. The 2 ferrets I have now have been on whole carcas since I got them at 5 months old. I fed them mainly rabbit during the ferreting season theyve also had squirrel pigeon dove pheasant and the last 2 days Ive fed them magpie. There doesnt seem to be a meat they wont eat.
yes they have a smell. don't bathe them more than once a month because it will strip them of their natural oils found on their skin, and then they will produce more and it will make them more smelly
Trenel Brumant you really shouldn’t spread false info as it could really hurt the ferret, which this info would due to its skin becoming dry if bathed too much.

you can usually find mice at pet stores, since a lot of animals (snakes and other reptiles) eat mice or other rodents. Try a local pet store or even petsmart or petco (not quite sure, but they should have some)
Ferrets from Petco are from Marshall. Obtaining a ferret from a breeder is best. All ferrets at pet stores are from Marshall; basically a ferret mill. Their products are great, but the way they treat their ferrets isn't great; neutered too early, parted from their mothers too early, bred for scientific uses, ones that pet stores sent back cause they can't get sold are euthanized. One thing you should have specified in your video is that the bones need to be raw bones, not cooked, because cooked bones are very, very bad for any animals. My ferrets are almost 6 years old. They eat a raw meat diet, with bone/organs/cartilage, with freeze dried treats that are meat/organ/cartilage only. The vet here wants over $1600 each to clean their teeth, and it's the only vet in town that is even willing to see ferrets (although based on some things she's said I don't think she knows much about ferrets). I just don't know what to do to make their teeth better if they absolutely will not cooperate with me. I've tried different tooth brushes, and tried using a tooth paste for pets, but they refuse to open their mouths enough for me to get the tooth brush in... I just don't know what to do about it... I don't want their teeth to get any worse, because if they do them they'll start losing teeth soon, or worse...

I haven't ever tried feeding them raw mice, but I should, because their teeth aren't very good now (I haven't been brushing them, but want to start). I'm sure thats the VERY best you can feed them. I've tried to feed them wild meat. but no dice I think its because they were so used to eating their regular food ( evo). They are SOOOOOOOO cute
+Amber Auxier They generally are pack like animals. Who love having a playmate. So at 1st I'm sure they may act a bit bizarre, if you will, but I know they will get used to another one of them. :-) They are usually better off with a playmate anyhow. I have two ferrets. When one is sleeping, the other gets annoyed sometimes, or acts sad/pouts. lol He wants to play so very bad. I can't always be there. So having another one is great for constant play time/companionship. it is usually said to have at least two ferrets anyways. I'm not being mean to one ferret owners. I just know that they do indeed need attention almost all hours they are not sleeping. Since they sleep so much, it is actually not very long that they are playing. My two little guys slept for a straight 15 hrs last night. And when they are out., they are out. lol So sorry about the book I wrote you. lol I just love ferrets. I also love to chat with other ferret owners/lovers. I often want a new one myself. That way...when one sadly may pass away early, or unexpectedly, I will already have another brother or sister for the one that would be lonely. I have seen some separation anxiety actions on one of my ferrets just when the other is being held/played with/clipped, or bathed. He will walk around searching for his brother. :-( They sleep by and on top of one another almost all the time. if you can get another one that would be great. I'm sure that they will welcome a new bro, or sis. Ttyl Take care. :-) Good luck.
+carolina herrera hernandez A baby mouse; commonly called "pinkies." Many pet stores carry them frozen for reptiles. I have yet to try them for my ferrets, but my leopard gecko enjoyed them thawed and warmed in hot water.
any tips to get my ferrets to eat meat with bones? I have got my rescue babies to eat minced meat and a bit of steak..after a lot of work..but nothing with bones so far :(
***** yes at the time i was uncertain but as I've continued to learn more i know that it is fine. I've given them a little chicken before with a bit of ferretone but i don't think they touched the meat.

How often do you feed them mice?
can they eat the bones?
Where do you get GOOD ferrets in US
Are they not choking by chicken neck?
do you only use water?
Should you start brushing when they are young or wait. My ferret is four months soon and I was just wondering.
Madison Ohair id say wait til 6 months
You can wait but get them used to the feeling of it
I'm sure thats the VERY best you can feed them.
I've tried to feed them wild meat. but no dice
I think its because they were so used to eating their regular food ( evo).
They are SOOOOOOOO cute
Ok have you tried feeding minced meat?
If you feed them chicken wings are they raw chicken wings or do you cook them?
Do you have to bring them to the vet? Is there a way to prevent taking them to the vet for a teeth cleaning?
Lol brush there teeth
Is mince ok for my ferret ??
isnt mince mix meat i think its okay but keep it a little chunky that i heard ferrets like chunky meat
4 tooth brushes is never enough for ferrets 😀
wait.... if its bad fr the teeth then why do they make them in medium and hard?
Ur entertaining. U caught me off guard with the mouse lol.

How many times a month should I feed my ferret meat with bones in it, and is just grocery store bought raw chicken meat with bones okay?
I use a baby finger tooth brush. its just a rubber finger sleeve with soft rubber bristles. will that work ?
The rubber bristles might be too rough. Just to be safe I would get a baby human toothbrush with ultra soft bristles.
IM GETTING A FERRET SOON DOES ANYONE KNOW SOME GOOD BREEDERS OR PETSHOPS IN SYDNEY THAT I CAN GO TO TO GET FERRETS?!
Can you brush thir teeth everyday?
I know this was 2 years ago but she said brush there teeth every two to three weeks
should the chicken neck be cooked or raw?
I have 2 ferrets Both 1 and I want a new one will they fight if I get one like younger?
Or it closes its eyes when you pull it's neck
04:45 Can't stop smiling, he's just too cute! :D
Can you use baking soda when brushing their teeth?
Baking soda is too harsh to even use on human teeth so please don't use it on a ferret!
My Ferret's gums started bleeding when I was trying to brush her, maybe the bristles on it were too hard?
You should probably go see your vet in case it's gum disease/gingivitis.
was it a mouse or ababy ferret it looks like a baby ferret, is't itb
what was the thing you gave to him to eat
+carolina herrera hernandez A baby mouse; commonly called "pinkies." Many pet stores carry them frozen for reptiles. I have yet to try them for my ferrets, but my leopard gecko enjoyed them thawed and warmed in hot water.
No, try Orijen, Wellness CORE, Evo, Natures Variety Duck, or GO! (These are very high quality Cat Foods)
