Things missed by Ruri, along with some answers to things he may have simply been unaware of
- When in the critical state, you can mash the face buttons to revive faster, and yes, it speeds up other players reviving you too.
- The ∆ button stuff is very much something players need to mess with. Some of the mechanics characters have *are never told to the player* such as Gran being able to do a charge attack that charges near immediately if done after a combo finisher, and how Siegfried has as an extension to his perfect combo tied to pressing ∆...which can also be repeated if you interrupt it with a Link Attack. Katalina can also extend the time Ares is out by using a skill inbetween the ∆∆∆ combo
- Link Time also provides a unique benefit relating to whatever your character's gimmick is. With resource-based characters, they get set to maximum resources and don't consume any resources during Link Time. Timing based characters meanwhile get to ignore their timings
- In the case of the demo, where you have a really strict time limit to S++ the Rock Golem due to underleveled weapons, using 2 2-bursts is better than a single full burst. The reason for this is due to the fact the timer is paused for a slightly longer period of time and the damage you get from the full burst is rather minimal
- Unfortunately, we still don't know how Crewmate Cards are obtained beyond playing the story. I personally suspect they'll be tied to specific chests or sidequests. They could also simply be tied to reaching a specific chapter.
In critical state, you have a 3rd option, you can tap any button repeatedly to revive yourself but it's longer than the potion or be revive by a teammate of course.
Thank you for all the great videos you put out over all this years! ❤
Most characters have their unique resources maxed out during link time, so characters like Rackam and Ghandagoza can spam their ∆ specials during that window.
Also to add to this, characters with timing gimmicks get to ignore the timing requirements. They're even allowed to mash from what I hear, which normally forces them to fail the timing mechanics.
@@Vexal50yup zeta does crazy dmg by just mashing her timed move when you get a perfect link
@@lapisgaming6093 siegfried as well. You can mash without the timing. Inthink kat has her summon maxed as well.
@@mauythai4585 she does! same for yorda
I still try to figure out this game, so what is my goal in this game? is it only killing bosses? is there no classic leveling and exploring the world like the most rpg?
SBA also pauses the timer so it might be good to stagger your full chain for like 2 seconds to squeeze in DPS with the other party members that are not currently in their SBA animation. Good for people who wants better clear times.
Regarding Link Time, Zeta's combo loop gets the easiest timing (the timing gets harder every time you perform Combo Loop), and you can use Arvesse Hammer, her finisher, after fewer Combo Loops as well. I believe the Captain is locked to Arts 4 during Link Time, and it wouldn't surprise me if pretty much everyone got something good, i.e. infinite Ares for Kat, infinite Mystic Orbs or faster Starfall charge speed for Io, faster butterfly generation for Narmaya? There's probably something like that for everyone.
Edit: Oh, and regarding Link Attacks, since they interrupt your combo, the game does give you an apology for this in that a link attack generates a sticker for Yodarha, allows Zeta to do an Arvesse Hammer immediately after, gives Kat some Ares meter, etc.
During your critical state other members can pick you up by holding the circle button. You can also mash the circle button to pick yourself up or help your teammates pick yourself up.
Narmaya gets max stack butterflies(6 butterflies). Usually using a skill the butterflies will be remove, but not in link time.
Man I had not looked at gameplay of this game or known anything really about it until a friend of mine asked me to download the demo and play with him and I decided to just go in blind and I truly just fell in love. The gameplay is amazing, we had so much fun with the demo, we probably spent like 20 hours playing it over and over in the quest mode just enjoying the gameplay, didn't even touch the story cause wanna save it for when the game comes out. Extremely excited for it.
Great vid! One important thing. I can't link it it here, but Cygames is asking for feedback and suggestions. The feedback link is on main page at bottom. I've seen comments wanting Crossplay, button mapping, camera zoom out etc so ask. They listen and try to implement what they can like in the gacha and GBVSR.
To answer your question I don't think it's a bug for Rackam as Zeta's abilities also change properties. You no longer have to time her aerial loops and can just spam for easy combo.
During Link attack mode, Yodarha get a maxed out seal gauge, so all of his arts are at max power, and the seals don't get reset when he uses an art.
that also applies to everyone with a stack mechanic like Narmaya
And the big punch guy can chair his maxed rage fist for 3-5k a hit
Corrections
Critical state, you can rapidly press any button to get out of it yourself.
Link Time,
Time stops and any character that has a resource like Rackams Heat gauge or Ghands Rage it will not deplete during link time.
The benefit of a perfect block is that it does STUN damage to the attacker, so successful perfect blocks equate more link attacks. The invincibility of perfect dodges can also be used to cover you vs enemy strings. IE if you perfect dodge the last boulder of the rock golem's quake rage, you can use the invincibility to rush him during his final spin. Same case during his bloodlust rampage. Perfect dodging the diving fist to gain invincibility to face tank the slap that usually follows. Perfect guard seems overall more beneficial though as link attacks often give more opportunity and character specific resources. Gran gaining accelerated charge during link attacks. Narmaya gaining extra butterflies and combo ended state, Katalina getting more ares meter, to name a few.
In link time, Ghandagoza has unlimited rage, so you can spam hold triangle. In the demo, it does about 7k per hit and can spam like 5 or so.
I'm gonna gave to come back rewatch later ruri. I'm still exhausted from goibg from melinia to tree sentinel and maliketh abd finally elden beast for the first time today. And crying a bit after talking to roderika afterwards, gonna save the for when i actually tackle the demo. Vids dope and the game looks pretty cool never played a granblue before
great vid Rurikhan! I got a Sigil called Potion Hoarder that gave me 1 more potion of each once eqiopped as well as the omen stones were active withtout using that answer from the villagers
Yeah, they become active after the last fight before you speak with the villager.
regarding SBA you need the initial Person to have 100% which is correct however every SBA gives everyone besides the user 10% Charge so basically you can start a chain with 100-90-80-70 in a team of 4 if the person with 100% is the one with the advantage element :D (its the same like in the mobile game)
During Link Time Siegfried and Ghandagoza can perform perfect attacks regardless of the timing, the attacks will automatically be considered perfect.
Zeta can stay divebombing infinitely until the Link Time gauge runs out.
For Gran, during link time his Art stays at IV and he has quicker skill cooldowns. This lets you basically spam skills at max Art.
Also for Chaining/SBAs if you use them during link time, it feels like it drains/ends faster. So during link time, don't use SBA till the end of link time.
last second block has two positive effects - your chracters doesn't get moved away (like it can happen if you block a strong attack with a regular block).
Secondly, It substentially increases stun bar
Never played any previous games in the series, but after only a few minutes of the demo was all I needed to know if I was interested in buying, but I’m buying on pc so I have to wait till reviews to let me know how well it runs, I plan on playing on the Deck often as well.
SBA also add 10 meter to all other character like in the original game, so if you SBA when the other chars in 90, 80, and 70 meter they can get bar from the other sba
Can not wait that demo was so crazy good loved it
regarding link time on other characters, I notice the timing window for Siegfried and Ghandahoza perfect basic attacks is not as punishing without, same goes to Zeta aerial combo loop
So much to learn, but I'm kinda loving it! This game doesn't seem like it's just for casual players.
Perfect guard/parrying interrupts the enemy attack and does a chunk of stun damage.
So in link time the big beefy monk can use his strongest attack 5 times without losing his gauge but another tip is if you’re playing Io you can lock on to soemthing to have all ur spells immediately hit it which makes aiming and distance non-factors (same works with the bombs the little guys drop during the golem fight)
Locking on is definitely preferential in most cases but it's still somewhat locked on the cast animation/spell effect. So for some situations like quakadile doing his charge attack you can still end up missing if you dont unlock and manually lead the aoe on him a bit (only really applies to the triangle charge and lighting for what we have so far)
Is this game particularly combo heavy? As in do you need to constantly be pressing a series of timed button/key presses in order to perform long attack chains? I have diminished dexterity in my left hand and I always play with a keyboard/mouse setup, so playing combo heavy types of games is very difficult for me. Tales of Arise has been the most combo heavy game I've been able to play and that was a little bit of a challenge.
If the early reviews are positive, it's more than guaranteed some of us will be playing and helping other for Co-op sessions.
For those still interested on the fighting game: is both accessible and deep. It allows for many mixed combos and relies more on fundamentals rather than just endless chains of attacks. Seems like Relink is taking those inspirations for its combat system.
SBA's can also be used to cancel bosses actions, i saved a teammate by using an SBA right as the golem was about to land on them and it canceled the bosses attack.
I appreciate the guys who would use their SBA to save a teammate from attacks but, as a Narmaya main, I receive emotional pain everytime someone pops their SBA the moment I decide to use her counter skill.
Minor thing to know though, sba wont stop a bosses enraged/bloodthirsty attack
Some skills will also be locked behind completing story. In my hands on there was some locked past chapter 5.
Let me add that it's beneficial to use your SBA when the boss enemy isn't in overdrive. I can't wait for the game on January 28th. Been playing the demo like CRAZY 👊🏿
This game looks like it'll be a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to it. I just hope it succeeds on a level that justifies them putting out an expansion or a follow up game, because there are a lot of cool characters and bosses they can draw on from their IP. It feels like the hard part was setting up the framework, and even if the game is great it'll be a bit of a shame if 8 years of dev time ends up as a one and done. That said, I am glad it's not a live service. I hope they follow in Monster Hunter's footsteps and handle the game like that with content updates and an eventual paid DLC.
My only complaint (as someone who's waiting on the PC release and hasn't played it) is that I'm not sure if I'll be done with my return to world by then. And considering I missed out on the final two patches of Iceborne last time around due to reasons, it'll feel terrible to do the same thing again. But I'm definitely playing this game on launch.
Can wait for this game
This game gave me a bit of Final Fantasy 16 vibes, I like the demo so far I’m getting the game!
can you make a guide for all the characters in the demo? I feel theres definitely more to combos but im too stupid to figure them out lol
Narmaya doesn't use butterflies in link time
Io´s charge speed is maxed out in link time. Like when she perfect timed her ∆ attack after a full charged normal attack.
During Link time, Ares won't leave Katalina's side if he's out allowing her to really go ham.
I didn't know that Rackam got unlimited heat gauge, that's crazy. There's probably similar effects for the others as well - the game is kind of frantic so I haven't been watching for special conditions like that however I'm willing to bet Narmaya doesn't consume butterflies during Link time (she is so much fun to play)
Near as I can tell a perfect block just guarantees you don't take damage but I could be wrong. I'm hoping Siegfried gets some synergy for that (Kat should as well I believe blocking fills Ares' gauge)
I've been wondering how exactly Stun worked, thanks for clarifying that. I can't decide if I like stacking it on Lancelot or not, since in theory it should allow him to enable a tonne of Link attacks but he benefits so heavily from Crit and Combo Power.
Tried out the demo today and really enjoyed. My big hope is when you change weapons they actually change. My favorite guy has been the little guy with with the dual swords and Siegfried.
fun fact, you can change weapon in the quest mode demo, each character provided with two weapons there!
Yes when you change weapons it actually changes how it looks and the devs also said there's going to be a weapon skin feature in the full game so if you have a weapon you think looks cool you can put that skin onto a weapon with better stats!
@@iLoveHues awesome thanks for the info!
YOU ARE AWESOME! ❤❤❤
GRATZ ON THE S++ 😊
Really wanted to know if gran has the ability to class change or i hope they add the outfits in the game for him and deejee. That was the best part of the rpg.
is weakpoint for elemental advantage? or weakspots?
Is there a main hub/base or house for the characters between quests?
Yes, I believe more than one actually.
Wait so what's the point of the Omen Stones? Are they like the Gore Nests in Doom Eternal or something where you find them and fight enemies for completion purposes?
Just challenge fights.
Like the enemies were 10+ lvl above your party.
Probably completionists achievement
@@Sircedan Hope so, I like that stuff.
By the way at 3:14 look at how controlled character got downed, ALL party members rushed for help and got into "round" AoE and almost got crushed buy the "line" AoE
this game looks awesome tbh
I'm gonna be fighting the rock golem for the next two weeks.
As far as link time goes, I'm pretty sure the extra buffs are intended. For example, zeta's timings on her dive bombs are completely removed, Narmaya's butterflies stay maxed after using skills, Ghandagoza has unlimited eternal rage, etc.
Have you--or anyone in the comments--heard if this will be playable on the steam deck? I'm hopeful it will be since it is coming to PS4. However, it is not listed on Steam yet so I was wondering.
Super interested in this game, enjoying the demo, but I'm worried about the online. It feels a bit clunky to join quests and it's difficult for me to get into a quest, between getting network errors and just not finding a match at all. Granted it is just a demo, I only started today and it's been out a couple weeks I think? I also wish the end of quests felt more celebratory, there's nothing to pick up and you are given barely any time to send out stickers or anything. Maybe that's just a demo thing idk, hopefully the online experience in the full release is better.
Awesome review. This looks like a great hack and slash game for casuals like me. I love real time action gemeplay just as much as turn based gemplay but I suck at doing combos. Unfortunately, I will have to get a new pc before I can even think about playing this game >_
Do we know if they added characters later on like DLC? I want them to add Beatrix
They already teased two Eternals character that are coming after Lucillius update
@ekosubandie2094
Edit: nevermind i found a video talking about it 😂
which ones are they? I'm nee to granblue so I don't know much 😅
10:05 me who played the browser / mobile game for over 5 years : *Chuckle Nervously* 'YOU SHALL KNOW PAIN'
zeta can infantilely keep 'jump' going and there's no timing for it to continue while in link time (what i mean is w/o the link time there's a timing to continuously 'jump' but while in link time you don't)
All my s++ have been either 2and 2 or 4 really late to stop the golem before second blood lust
Narmaya mains rejoice she keeps max butterflies during link time !
This game makes me feels like playing tales
hi! is this recorded in fidelity mode?
Both, the sections that are in 30 fps (most of the story mode footage) is in fidelity, the missions are in performance.
3:16 you can also spam tap any face button or rotate your stick in a circle to revive yourself considerably faster. Also works *while* someone is reviving you. Maybe try actually reading the tutorials that pop up so tired of people just crawling around waiting to get picked up when we should be doing damage
During link time the Ares gauge was infinite so yea i think thats also the buff
I think my main concern with the game right now is the difficulty. None of the fights in the demo were difficult, and from what we've seen even from the endgame fights, they didn't seem like anything too crazy.
Still, super hyped for this game.
I think this game has the perfect example of "easy to learn but hard to master." When you start to challenge yourself and try to get S++, things start to get more fun and more in depth.
I just wish you could put the camera a bit far back and reduce the ath, there is hardly any visual clarity in some moments...
Is the game open world or mission based? that's all i wanna know
Mission based, but the campaign features maps that reward exploration.
Huge negative for me then...now have to decide if I want it or not. @@rurikhan
Looks like perfect block does not lower your guard gauge
Im getting this game solely because Brianna Knickerbocker is a voice actress for one character lol The UI looks messy af but the game looks cool
I'll be surprised if they add crossover character that would be the best
The character switching is what FF16 should have used :/ (weird coz FF7R let you do so).
Anyway, for the retail version of the game, I hope they will implement something like a gacha summon like Xenoblade Chronicles for future characters 😅
They really need to do a huge marketing push explaing what the hell this game is. I had been ignoring videos about it since first impressions of art and current promotional material smelt like gacha trash.
But it actually looks decent, and not that.
I feel like I'm not the only one, because so few channels are covering it or getting mant views on it 😅
Last 2nd block is parrying.
i tried the demo a little bit and didnt really get into it with the default character. any chance id have more fun once i unlock other characters?
Hey. You can freely enjoy the 10 available character in “Quest Mode” in the demo. They are locked by design in “Story Mode”
@@plasmateria-669 ahh good to know. game looks amazing and really want to get into it. I only tried the story mode so far. Ill check it out again tomorrow.
@@Serrassi You should be able to pickup a character that you’ll like! They are all pretty distinct from each other.
@@plasmateria-669 i played a bit more and used the spear girl as this was the one that got my atttention initially. was a lot more fun even tho im not 100% sure on the combat. It does get pretty awesome during boss fights with all the big stuff happening and super arts.
Still salty this isn't on pc but this looks incredibly fun and right up my alley. Besides I have Palworld and Infinite Wealth to keep me company until this hits...oh man I'll be juggling all 3 of these games soon...oh no, and then Helldivers 2 with my friends come February. oof my free gaming time is gonna be gone for awhile lol.
It will be on pc tho.
Only the demo and preorder is currently PlayStation only.
As soon as release comes around pc will go on sale
@@Sircedan I know, I meant I was salty the demo isn't on PC.
Dragalia lost walked so Relink could haul ass into the netherworld
5:41: 🤦🏾♂️every character gets their restrictions removed during link time. Stack characters get perma max stacks, gauge characters get perma full gauge. Charge characters dont need to charge after a combo for the increased charge speed and can just quick charge standalone.
This is just mostly Dragalia Lost but with another type of camera and monster hunter like game play
So far I’m disappointed by build variety from videos because it doesn’t sound like it will adjust mechanics like in MH, just raise attack health crit. No evade extender or armor right? Just stats?
There are dodge skills, guard skills and more.
Only 4 usable skills during combat is a con for me. Can we get 8 or 6?
4 is enough imo, you can customize the 4 skills you want to use out of 10 - 15 skills available
@@badnews5779 I would prefer more since it's an action JRPG. I used Katalina and dedicated 2 skills for buff and healing. That left me with 2 combat skills. Using more would add depth to combat and setups.
@@lsthree6996 its add depth for sure if they add more skillslot, but in the original game character can only have 4 skills so Relink just staying true to that, besides we have more than 18 playable characters with different gimmick and playstyle to choose from, that adds more depth than you think
Wish people would stop comparing it to monster hunter its nothing like it. If you want to “compare” it I would say gameplay mechanics wise it's tales of arise/final fantasy online. Literally, like every character has their own mechanics to learn adding the fact boss/raid fights are exactly like final fantasy online. Can you imagine the amount of people getting kicked out of parties because they're not doing enough dps? Yeah I'm preparing how this is going to play out.
Part break, big monsters, different weapons. Yeah nothing like monster hunter
The lock on mechanic needs work. I got so incredibly aggravated with how stupid the lock on system is while playing against the rock golem...For some reason, when you're holding the throwable object, it locks onto the other sand enemy, when CLEARLY you want to throw that at the golem...also when you lock on to the sand enemy, it doesn't toggle between enemies. It's SUPER annoying.
this game is gacha characters or all characters given?
You'll unlock character with tickets you get from story and hunt quests
@@Sircedan but do we need to pay with tickets?
@@remidis This is not a free-to-play Gacha game like Genshin, Honkai, etc. You just buy the game and then you can unlock everything within the game/story without any money.
You can't spend any real money within the game anyway.
@@-Takeru- *cough* yet lol
@@remidisthere will be enough tickets earned from story and other quests to unlock everything.
for such gameplay, nothing come close to Dragon Dogma.
Maining narmaya
Katalina during link time has infinite access to her primordial summon and it’s buffed skills meaning huge damage dumps during link time
I’m hearing way too much about Multiplayer which is not what I’m looking for in a JRPG. This better not turn into some live service garbage.
Devs already said it's not gonna be a live service. They'll just keep giving the game updates
Move on. This isn't for you.
I barely even mentioned multiplayer…
@@yourfaceversion1 go play COD If you want live service then bum. I gotta deal with you frag heads enough in shooters.
Multiplayer is the only reason I’m interested in this game… I’ll have dragons dogma 2 for the single player experience.
Game is good but the camera loool is BIG problem
Is this a gatcha game
only thing that worries me about the game is if its too easy (looks like it is) i will get bored of it quick.
A los of games have crazy good mechanics that looks sick that also are totally unnecesary to use cause you can kill the enemies with auto attacks most of the times and thats a really bad feeling for me, feels like they put those mechanics there as a "skin" to make the player feel super god mode but in reality the game is so easy you dont even need to do them. I hope this is not the case with GBFR
Game industry is dumb. Too much coming out too close together. I'm not gonna get this despite wanting it cause too much around I wanna play first :( and would be way too long to get to this so no rush to buy the game early. Ah well. Game industry keeps fucking itself. Same with that Ronin game tbh. The only two games I plan to get early in the year is FF7 Rebirth and Dragon's Dogma 2.
I bet this game will be too much grindy and we will have an option to speed up this process by paying. I wish I'm wrong, but I already expect it coming from this game company, I doubt they will sell cosmetics for characters and weapons only or even ever.
there will be no micro transaction, this is addressed already
@@badnews5779 if there is skins it still is a mtx but I got what u mean, I hope not but I doubt, they will try to earn extra cash somehow
Highly Doubt it.
@@rurikhanI hope not but I got sad it won't have crossplay with consoles since my friend is on PS5 and I'm on PC :(
I tried the demo today. It's just monster hunter with anime characters and no stamina bar. This is good but I'm not sure how it will be received.
Japanese sales are pretty much gonna be good since GBF is huge in Japan but not sure about the west
Its absolutely NOT monster hunter. More similar to ff16
@@L10N. FF16 was borderline a straight action games, where as this game is way closer to a Action RPG, with character classes, party systems,...etc. This game is way closer to something like a Strangers Of Paradise FF Origins.

same case when I first saw Hades and FFXVI but its different when you're the one playing. You eventually instinctively block all the visual clutter as you focus on the gameplay.
@@nekotorinThis...if you can't you focus on what you're doing and blurr out everything else until you actually need to pay attention to it then that's a YOU problem, I don't really pay attention to the link time gauge until its close to 100%, the only thing you should be looking at is your characters actions, the boss and peaking at your skill cooldowns.
