      @@eldrago19Yes he was. Hitchen’s views were all over the place. He was against the Vietnam War but after 9/11 he abandoned his anti-war views. I followed Hitchens as I am an atheist, and he was a brilliant atheist!

    Some people never outgrow the need for a security blanket; in a perverse way I'm thankful there are so many of them; it lessens the competition for many jobs, especially in the sciences ... it also dumbs us down from our collective potential.
    Some people never outgrow the need for self-indulgence and wear their fanaticism and ignorance as a badge of pride never realising one goes with the other.

    Well if you have ever listened to Falwell, Robertson, and that ilk you may realize that there is a tragic misprint in the Bible where it says "He made the lame to walk." The actual interpretation according to the International Just Logical and Not Necessarily Theological Association of Realists and Medical Marijuana Growers is:
    "He made the lame to TALK"

  • @luckyjohn19
    @luckyjohn19 17 років тому

    He also said: The masses are like an animal that obeys instincts AND Only the fanaticised masses can be guided AND What luck for rulers that men do not think AND The art of all popular leaders consisted at all times in concentrating the attention of the masses on a single enemy.
    He was brought up Catholic and observed how power was used; he learnt from the best. You don't have to be too much smarter than average to be smarter than average.

    « Everyone of us will be standing before God oneday »
    If it exists and gives everybody an audience.
    « all God required(s) of humans is to believe in Jesus Christ »
    And to obey his commands, et cetera. Don't worry, you're not required to be a good, moral person, as long as you believe and obey.

    Though personally I'm happy being a freelance moral philosopher. No self-important beaurocracy to wait on, no history of hypocrisy or violence to justify, and I get to be happy with the moral decisions I make every day. Plus I get to have fun by studying various religious and secular philosophies from around the world. It really is an eye-opener into both sociolgy and psychology. I do adore Ebon Musing's "New Ten Commandments," though!

    I love Roy. I don't think he's a Christian, but he's written so many songs that point out how far some people disconnect their beliefs from what Christianity is really about, and I love that he acknowledges that there's a difference between people who do things in the name of a belief system and the tenets of the belief system itself.

    While I feel (some) empathy for the Falwell family, I can not help feeling relief and a little joy at Jerry Falwell's death. Because of his constant hate-spewing, I can never tell my grandparents about my religion, the people I hang out with or the people I love. It is because of the hate of him and his ilk that I my friends are beaten.
    That is his legacy to all those close to me.
    So bravo Roy, for one of my favorite satire songs. Keep up the good work.

    Actually, as a Christian, this video causes me to ponder what is the nature of the God believers display in their daily life. I believe we deserve the mocking, and not God, for displaying a parody of Jesus. But when He will ne truly revealed as He is through His body, the Church, (and the evidence of this will be wonder-working love), then the world will wonder, and many will come to Him. Thanks, Roy... you're only helping us get there sooner!

    That's an excellent summary of his most important point: that people only absorb themselves whole-heartedly into a(n un)holy cause when they're feeling weak or insecure as individuals. Same goes for all bigotry in general. It's all about feeling like you're high enough on the ladder of success because there's still someone below you. It's dumbfounding how much of the crap people put each other through is explained by this.
