Winterbottom has captured several layers in what seems such a simple idea. There is a melancholia in there. Within the bants, needling and joshing rivalry is something purer than camaraderie. It's a deep friendship. Apparently the duo took a lot of convincing to do Series 1. Maybe Winterbottom is the true genius.
2 British comedy geniuses. Superb series. All the series were fantastic. Steve and Rob please keep on doing this. There's alot more countries to go to and dine and create more laughter for us all !!!
I’ve forgotten how good great impressionists can be. And when at 8:40 when Rob did Basil Brush was pure gold for me as a child of the seventies and huge Bond fan.
the small man in a box made me laugh so hard i think i pulled a muscle in my side lol. i just wasn't expecting that at all.. it sounded almost like some effect that was added on in post, but his mouth was moving so i didn't understand what i was hearing/seeing.. and then when steve said "i've always acknowledged you do a very good small man in a box" i freakin lost it
I know they're playing fictionalized versions of themselves, and there's at least some degree of scripting, but Coogan and Bryden really have fantastic on-screen chemistry.

Whenever Rob displays even a hint of pride about something he’s done, or one of his accents, Coogan always drags him down and criticises him. A Whether Moments Poet Hate to disabuse you of that notion but I think you've probably seen a small selection of what we get over here. Shows like this get tiny ratings and the stuff in prime time that gets big numbers is precisely "blatantly obvious and childlike".

These "Trip" films are endlessly delightful. I love that they inject some underlying narratives to flesh out these "characters" but the true joy of them is watching two friends and colleagues duke it out in the realm of impersonation (which Coogan continues to arrogantly insist that he is the greater artist)

I’m 25 but I watched this show when it came out and even as a 13 year old I was captivated by the characterisation of them both and how it inflects on the real people behind them. Casting Steve as the more successful of the pair but having delusions of grandeur, while Rob seems content as the less successful but more adored of the two, is genius
Two elements about Coogan make his impressions so accurate is that his diction and pronunciation is so clear and concise in general. He speaks so bloody well. It is a key ingredient.
KING Koogan is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT on his voices AND faces; Mr Bryson is also EXCELLENT and "more" entertaining.(?) A REAL honour to watch this simply brilliant and unique DUO, as they both analyse/ad-lib and BRUTALLY master-debate each other along their journey. Such great fun to watch.

These are BOTH genius impressionists and equally good. The format is brilliant and it's difficult to tell how much is scripted and how much is spontaneous. This made me sometimes laugh even more than many of George Carlin's stand-up routines.
