My father adored Bob Newhart. When we were little kids, back in the 60s, he used to play his records particularly over Christmas time. I still remember those times with great happiness. In my minds eye, I can still hear my Dad laughing heartily at ‘The Driving Instructor’, the story of how tobacco was introduced and the incompetent submarine commander.
Bob Newhart is now 90 years old. I guess he was about 85 when they taped these? There's not even a nick in the blade of his razor-sharp wit. Who can still be this amazing this late in life?
Fantastic interview. Laughed so long my cheeks hurt! R.I.P., Bob, you are one of my all-time favorites. There will never be another, as great as you. ❤
I love this guy, and it hurts to see him getting so old--and this was five years ago. Great sense of humor and comic delivery. Seems to be a genuinely nice man.
I memorized all of his albums back in the 60s and 70s. Loved the guy...as does the whole world. Humor and Humility mixed together. That's who Bob was to me, and I think maybe a great deal of his fans. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the world was like Bob?!?
I was at a bad point in my life -- undiagnosed diabetes, actually no big deal, unless untreated -- and Craig, every night, made life worth living and gave me something to look forward to. The show was always a silly, f*ck it ROMP, but in the interviews, like with Newhart, he had an intuitive skill for finding the best in his guests and drawing it out -- simply by making them feel as at ease as the audience at home. Never saw him "muff" one. Greatness, Craig. Thanks.
Look how in tune they are with the jokes, the subtlety of Craig's little "looks", like when Bob said, "I never thought I'd meet a Queen..." It's great to see!!
My daughter avised me to watch a couple of modern day comedians gave me the names and 10 minutes in I had not smiled. I sit here listening to these 2 and am neaar crying with laughter.
I remember Bob talking about the 'executives' trying to fix his show: "Bob, could you talk a little faster - those pauses slow things down" & "we've decided to add a kid to the show" to which Bob replied "What a wonderful idea - who are you going to get to play Bob". Bob knew his humor, knew what was funny, and knew what he wanted. I grew up listening to him on the radio (plug: CKCK/CK62 from out of Regina); I had insomnia and CK62 had a 2 hour comedy show from like 1:00am to 3:00am. Thanks for the memories.

Nope. A friend who was a huge fan got tickets to see him live in Toronto around 1988 and she'd barely talk about it the next day. She said he was foul mouthed and had a nasty temperament that wasn't part of the show. He just came across as a total 180 to the sitcoms she watched all the time. This wasn't the Bob Newhart of his TV shows and she was really upset, more than annoyed. She never watched another Newhart show after that.

First, Martin Mull.. and then Bob Newhart. We just lost two of the greatest masters of understated comedy of all time. My dad was a young man when Bob’s first albums came out. And he shared those with me, as I enjoyed his first series every week after Mary Tyler Moore. I could go on forever, I’ll just say look up all the Newhart clips you can. Bob always reminded me of that one teacher you had in high school who could drone on for a few minutes until the class fell into a stupor, then would just, out of the blue, say the weirdest, funniest thing you had ever heard...It would go over the heads of most people. but if you were lucky enough to catch it, you would never forget it, and you would never really look at life in the same way again...
Interesting. Seeing Bob Newhart always reminds me of one of my high school English teachers. They look so much alike, especially when Bob puts on his cardigan in the Bob Newhart Show.
I think I would have enjoyed school more if Bob Newhart had been my teacher. Unfortunately, I had more of the Ben Stein- Ferris Bueller's Day Off version (😩😝😒).

And he said "I wish I could have found a way to get paid every time someone played that game. I would have made more money than I did in television!" Super nice guy and always a quick wit.

You should put the thing in the title earlier in the video so we didn't have to watch the whole thing.
It would save a lot of time.
Watching this today, Monday July 22nd 2024. I watched in the online news a few days ago that he had passed away at 94. Rest in peace, Bob.

I bought a copy of his album back in the 1960's... love it and I still have it!

My father used to have his records, I listened to them as a child across the pond in UK. Crying with laughter. Wonderful stuff!

Yes! And there was an extra layer of enjoyment seeing the two of them having a genuinely good time, as well. RIP BOB Newhart.
