The issue with fast talkers, whether ATC, pilots, or ground personnel, is that it is unsafe. Speaking in a moderate and audible tone and pace will eliminate unnecessary repetition and greatly mitigate risks
💯. This is apparently one of the most difficult concepts in the world to understand.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
Not enough time to speak slowly but always enough time to repeat yourself 3 times. 😂😂😂
@@jakekeys4028 Exactly… makes no sense whatsoever.
Especially at an airport like JFK where many of the pilots do not speak English as their first language
Makes me appreciate the thoroughly polite & patient ATCs I deal with in Dallas.
Well you get less polite the more traffic you have on freq and with the more pilots who aren't following instruction.
Let me guess, you're pushing the "South is polite all New Yorkers are jerks" myth?
@@justinhink4198 no excuse! Be polite and professional all the time.
It doesnt depend on ATC. It depends on the current workload of the controller.
@@askarmukit’s does. JFK is not even the busiest airport in the world, they just have attitude problem, unprofessional
I was an FAA controller for 33 years until retirement. This ground controller could at least TRY to sound professional. It would have seriously helped him and more importantly the situation.
Americans and JFK...
I can tell you never worked at a busy facility by your comment.
@YourMomSaysHi_Jinx I work. We just have more self restraint and better self esteem than you do.
This guy is on a couple ATC videos. He is ALWAYS rude. The sad part is, a lot of people mistake him for Kennedy Steve, and it most definitely is NOT.
@@YourMomSaysHi_Jinxif you work at a busy restaurant can u just cuss out your customers then? There’s no excuse
I like to listen to British ATC. Very polite and clear. Also not too fast
How do you listen to it? Thought it was illegal to broadcast
@@billylardner no. of course its not...
@@adamdriver1016 I thought it was? Isn't that why LiveATC can't broadcast UK ATC?
@@adamdriver1016 It is illegal to provide ATC feeds from within the UK due to an outdated law that originated back in 1942.
It’s easy to do all 3 when your workload is light.
Kennedy ATC always sound like they want to start a street brawl.
LOL, thats for real!
He should be fired on the spot, mental state questionable.
That's just Kennedy. This guy as well as the one they call Kennedy Steve are always this way.
@@Viking0612 It's the world renowned New York courtesy which they're famous for. Haven't you ever heard of :"The Jerky Boys"?🤕🤣
@@Viking0612 Steve at least blew it off with sarcasm and jokes, this guy is just insufferable.
Amazes me that pilots can follow these instructions without stuffing it up
Practice.
It is like pharmacists being able to read doctor's handwriting.
@@schwarzerritter5724 I’m sure you’re right but hell they speak fast.
The know exactly what to expect. They already know the runway in use. Everybody gets there via the same taxiway then holds short at the same place. Only difference is the first turn or two to get to the main taxiway.
@@DrLumpy for the guys who do it all the time I guess it’s routine but it must be tough the first time if your single pilot etc. Cheers
@CraigLumpyLemke you make it seem like drinking water. It's not easy
Why people from New York wear their rudeness as a badge of honor is something I will never understand.
Craig: It goes back many, many years.
A friend who grew up there told me it is a function of too many people living in too congested an area and to get around and get what you need it simply requires an element of brusqueness but it too often devolves to rudeness...So ..he moved to florida.
Fuhgetaboutit.
@@Dan-oj4iq Everything goes back many, many years. It's a good question. Why are they all proud of being Alpha Hotels?
I think you mean arseholes 😁
Sounds like this guy picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue.
Good luck.....We're all counting on you!
Well, surely you can't be serious!
As a controller and pilot I have the luxury of knowing both worlds. 2 things I always tell my students are; 1: You’re talking to 1 person. Controllers are talking to 20-30 so exercise patience unless it is serious. 2: You don’t know the whole picture, don’t ask to “help out” with speed adjustments or other things unless told to do so.
The end of my first exasperating day as an ATC at Kennedy would be to leap out of the tower to my death.
Lol no we need you, stay a while 😂
We heard you like overtime 👀
That guy is in the wrong job. Being impatient and short-tempered with people is not an effective way to handle ground control at a busy airport...
Seems to be working fine. He didn’t sound angry, just impatient.
He is managing controlled chaos. He doesn’t have time for b.s. pilots and they know it.
He has 30+ aircraft in sequence moving around on the ground. He's doing everything he can.
@@MeerkatADV They always have lots of planes to coordinate. That's the job. If you get worked up doing the job then you need to find a different job.
I’ll cut him a break. Prolly just having a bad day, maybe a little under the weather, who knows?
He didn't sound really angry, just normally gruff and impatient.
yea i also dont understand why all the other comments here from actual pilots etc (?) are saying this is coming across as angry
Probably some pilots here are just snowflakes 😁😁😁 Whenever somebody rise up their tone just slightly they be like "No no please dont hurt me I have just 500 hours Im newb please Ill do whatever you say just dont insult me I have a bad heart conditions I beg you" 😁😁😁
@@askarmukMore like “I’m dealing a multi million dollar airplane that weighs 200k pounds and I have 140 passengers in the back, I’m already dealing with enough stress as it is and it’d be nice if you don’t add on to that stress for no little reason” only makes things more dangerous if you’re controlling like this
@@deepfriedewok Most pilots here are boomer pilots and think they own the skies, and know everything and can discern everything from an ATC. Pretty much rich dick heads. I am talking for PPL, not commercial.
I don't know why someone choose this job. It is super stressing, you have to think fast, speak fast and clearly, have a good memory, and have to be completely focused all day long! How many hours a week do they work? Do they work five days a week?
Thats one of reasons why we need more AI in this.
I don’t know if this is the case at most busy airports but in Atlanta they do like 1-2 hour shifts then take a 30+ min break because of how intense and busy it is.
They make good money.
There was an Atlanta ATC guy that used to be on at night (this is in the early 90's). He had the most pleasant, calming voice...pretty much the complete opposite of this Kennedy controller.
2:31 “what is my number again?” Pause “I apologize, I didn’t hear you, what was that?” Pause again “My radio isn’t working, what number is it again?”
I’d be like that if he yelled at me for just trying to reconfirm which spot I was in and to tell him in his mind not to test us as pilots over this radio
Left MIKE Left ALPHA Short of MIKE ALPHA
This is just a regular new yorker 😂
Oh I know… I have a New Yorker, mother in law….
That controller would last 45 mins at Heathrow before being escorted out of the country.
Wow that guy is the Soup Nazi of tower ATC.
Oh no, Ryanair is hiring air traffic controllers now?!? God help us all
JFK is a Cluster F. Airport, looks like an airport i would a novice would of made build on SIMs (game)
Sounds like this controller picked the wrong week to quit smoking.
What's Aeroflot doing there? Aren't they currently banned from US airspace due to the war?
i believe the ATC here retired back in 2017, so this clip is probably a few years old
What a mess. I didnt assign u a gate, but if u found a free one, go for it.
I dont have anything to do with aviation but have watched a number of these videos. I get the impression ATC hate the taxiing and gate aspect of their job! True or no?
I've heard much angrier lol but there was a lot going on to make him frustrated
Someone needs a "chill pill".
NY friendly ,helpful ,curtious.
Sounds like that ATC dude woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
Is this the same ATC controller getting pissed off with Air China 981 for the pilots bad English?
Dude needs the check the chemical content of his breakfast cereal.
When was this recorded?
I take it Steve was having a rough day!
That's not steve.
@@DeweyCheatumNHoweLLC I know he's retired. But how old is the audio? Do you know?

ATC need to learn their place in the hierarchy of aviation.
JFK ground, maybe the most challenging ATC positions in the system. Don’t be haters unless you have worked it.
That was fuckn funny I was redface laughing
Do not F with this guy!
Unprofessional behavior from the ATC
Well at least he won't be dealing with Aeroflot for a while!
Time to wake up to the western corruption matey
Why is it always JFK in these videos lol
we should treat the American carriers same way when they are abroad
Why? It's not the carriers' fault.
wow i didnt realize Adam Carolla did air traffic control
Kennedy atc doesn't care. They don't have to.
Is this controller the same guy as the Air China 981? 🤣🤣
Kennedy Ralph! Short fuse.
What I can't understand is how all the female ATC all sound the same. I really didn't _notice_ this fully until years went by, then one day I realized that I had the same face in my mind matching to that voice, but for every airport!
I didn't hear anyone get angry. 🤷♀️
What was the date of this? Interesting to see an Aeroflot flight in America 🤪
He is so uptight! I think he needs to take a break or something.
He sounds like that all the time.

That was Kennedy Steve. Worked ground, retired years ago. Many other you tube videos of him, when he is funny, not upset.
I don't think that was Steve. Steve had much more patience than that for one thing.

What a horrible place to fly into. Why are you people so angry all of the time ? Must be because you live on top of each other. 🤷♂️
I’ve never worked Kennedy so who am I to criticize this guy
Haha rhat pilot asking how long...30th. yeah but roughly how long..30 in the Q 3-0 dont call me again til ita your tuen 😂😂

I absolutely cannot stand NY airspace… people are the same over the radios as they are in person… disgusting.
Didn't see any moment where ground got angry.... youtube content creators are so sensitive!
Like the Soup Nazi of taxiways
Adam Corolla?
Say what you will the guy is in control.
VERY UNPROFESSIONAL
I know they’re beyond busy and it really is a thankless job. But is there any reason to just be plain rude? It’s not like they all intended to be on the mic at once…. it feels like he’s trying to be Kennedy Steve but just coming off as straight up rude, when Kennedy Steve had just the perfect amount of sarcasm and humour mixed in to make it acceptable….. 😂
Controller not suited for the job.
He needs to be fired and get some better professional who can do in loud, slowly, clearly and in a calm manner.
It’s not like these ground controllers have to worry about getting a mid air. I know it’s busy there but geez.
They do have to worry about MANY planes, pilots just have to worry about their plane. Planes can cause a lot of trouble on the ground too, clipping another plane's wing, running over taxiway signs and lighting, lamp poles (Qatar at KORD). Also, planes can't back up so if a plane is on a taxiway and it gets blocked, that plane is trapped.
Somebody has the wrong job or just discovered his wife with another man one hour ago...
Nah, he always sounds like that! 😆
New York controllers are just nasty, unhappy people. I like telling them that Atlanta are way more professional….and busier!
it is Kennedy Steve?
No. Steve retired from Kennedy, but I hear he's now a gate controller, IOW the other side of the ramps.
WTF do you expect? They’re New Yorkers. When New Yorkers take Viagara, they get taller.
Dang, someone needs a Snickers bar!
That controller needs to be fired, totally unprofessional. He is going to cause an accident and somebody will definitely get hurt and property will get damaged.
I don’t think he was angry he was likely just stressed
One of the planes was 30th in line, so I'd guess things are busy.
@@hamletksquid2702 My thoughts exactly. DAL 9930 was basically doing the equivalent of kids in the back of a car screaming "are we there yet?!?" when you're trying to navigate a snow storm. Not like he was unaware dude was slammed.
@@vocs75 Not quite, DAL has fuel constraints and company pressure to worry about. If he's waiting too long he'll bust his hold/alternate reserves and require a refuel.
@@morerightrudder9742 I get all that, but I was saying it in the context of the situation. There's 30 other planes waiting and more on the way with the same exact concerns, should they all get on the mic and ask a question that I would assume any seasoned pilot would know that they have no clue even in a rough sense of how long it will take?
@@vocs75 Nothing wrong with asking for an ETA so he can take measures to conserve his fuel.
I'm sure I heard this voice is the same of some situation involving a TAM 777's in other video... It looks this guy really has no patience among controlling lots of flitghs
I thought the ATC guy was excellent. When you fly into NY you get NY, get sharp, pull up your socks and don't expect Miss Marjorie's School of Manners.
hi
Aeroflot is still operating here? Was this recent?
Several years old
unprofessional and unacceptable
ATC has lot going on and controller did a good job
Was waiting for someone to say, “When you talk to me sir you will use my full call sign and ‘be more polite next time’.” 😂 Famous lines from other ATC vids.
Kennedy Steve's coping mechanism for the horrendous pressure at JFK was humor this guy's is yelling
That’s funny. New Yorkers are never loud or “yelly”😂
Would this guy also possibly be one of those New Yorkers that is honking in traffic incessantly for no reason??
Most of that honking comes from loudspeakers. Like keeping parrots docile - they're not comfortable unless they're surrounded by the sounds of their flock.
@@hamletksquid2702 LOL ...its definitely comin from somewhere!

Loved hearing the cheery Aeroflot pilot lol
We are by far kinder in communication than this a sort of controller
Sometimes controllers need to be firm, but you can do that with grace and professionalism. They don't teach that in New York.
😂 for real. Also, almost NO ONE SMILES there. NYC streets are full of the most miserable faces- most depressing and emotionless streets I’ve ever walked down- even Paris with the metro strike was cheerier! London after the 2000’s tube bombing, as well.

That goes for cities, too.
It’s New York.
Kennedy has some real short fused atc. Don't think that attitude was necessary especially with foreign pilots
I don’t know how ATCs can even UNDERSTAND what some of those pilots are even saying, especially ones with a heavy accent like the Asian guy.
I hate talking to ground controllers when they are in a bad mood.
It’s honestly dangerous. It’s stresses everyone out even if it has nothing to do with you.

It's the same controller involved in miscomunication with Air China 981 - you can clearly hear his voice and even the way he says "ramp" matches both audio. Does anyone know his name or any other videos available with him? Is he still at JFK GND?
Hopefully he's been sacked by now. CRM matters just as much in the tower as the cockpit.
