I was an FAA controller for 33 years until retirement. This ground controller could at least TRY to sound professional. It would have seriously helped him and more importantly the situation.
A friend who grew up there told me it is a function of too many people living in too congested an area and to get around and get what you need it simply requires an element of brusqueness but it too often devolves to rudeness...So ..he moved to florida.
The know exactly what to expect. They already know the runway in use. Everybody gets there via the same taxiway then holds short at the same place. Only difference is the first turn or two to get to the main taxiway.
Most of that honking comes from loudspeakers. Like keeping parrots docile - they're not comfortable unless they're surrounded by the sounds of their flock.
As a controller and pilot I have the luxury of knowing both worlds. 2 things I always tell my students are; 1: You’re talking to 1 person. Controllers are talking to 20-30 so exercise patience unless it is serious. 2: You don’t know the whole picture, don’t ask to “help out” with speed adjustments or other things unless told to do so.
😂 for real. Also, almost NO ONE SMILES there. NYC streets are full of the most miserable faces- most depressing and emotionless streets I’ve ever walked down- even Paris with the metro strike was cheerier! London after the 2000’s tube bombing, as well.

I don't know why someone choose this job. It is super stressing, you have to think fast, speak fast and clearly, have a good memory, and have to be completely focused all day long! How many hours a week do they work? Do they work five days a week?

How is the FAA not investigating this? He clearly hates his job and completely unprofessional. With so many lives on the line, if he does not get fired then this system is completely broken.

There was an Atlanta ATC guy that used to be on at night (this is in the early 90's). He had the most pleasant, calming voice...pretty much the complete opposite of this Kennedy controller.

I didn't find the ATC too bad at all. He was clear, to the point, and doing his job well. He was efficient and just because his tone of voice was not the most welcoming, who cares? His job is to handle the plane traffic, and he does that well.
Voice comms needs to go the way of the dinosaur. Too inefficient and unsafe. Digital comms with AI and automated voice prompts, overseen by humans, is one way to go.
Get a tape of ground control at most busy International airports like LHR....SIN.....DXB ...SEA...HKG.. SYD... Listen to how it's done correctly by professionals with respect for fellow professionals. This controller is totally out of order....talks too much , too loud too sarcastic....
@@RoelandJansen fair but at the same time he's working as safely, orderly and expeditiously as he can. If you have a lot of traffic and are trying to coordinate crossings you might not notice it. I don't blame the pilots for getting a little impatient but they are talking to one person and he's talking to multiple other people plus all the coordination they have to do.
