DEPARTING TRAFFIC" Those last words made a big difference in what I saw out the window. Pilots actually held short!!!
Did the key lime plane cross over the spot where they were supposed to stop? It’s hard to tell from the video. The pilot who did the read back repeated the hold short of 24L instructions.
I saw some people speculating that it might have been an ATC error but nope. ATC clearly instructed key lime 563 to hold short of 24L and they read it back. Pilot error.

I believe the hold short bars have sensors on them, so the front gear touching would have triggered an alert. It's very possible that the pilots just misjudged where the bar is and would have still remained clear of the runway, but much better to make that "stop" call than be sorry you didn't.
Sorry, but I don't think I could be an ATC controller because I'd immediately break out the desk whiskey after that incident. Don't know how that guy kept his demeanor after that

The Embraer even read back the hold short clearance, I wasn't sure if they got confused on where to stop. I couldn't tell if they crossed the hold short line, did they? I'd assume they were at least very close.
Embraer? Thought ATC said Gulfstream
@@JahongirHaitov I mean the video shows an EMB-145 landing so I don't know what to tell you.
@@camward9293 i effed that up, one of the previous two crossing was a gulfstream
@@JahongirHaitov All good
Vast majority of Controllers are terrific
Lucy! You got some splanin to do! They properly read back the hold short instruction then promptly crossed the hold short line 🤦 At least they didn’t cross the runway edge line and it looks like DAL was well airborne before the intersection.
The system worked.
“Later Tater” (ATC) handled that masterfully!
I love this controller's sing-song voice haha
Reminds me a bit of a cattle auction.
He’s called (by Kevin, host of the Airline Videos Live channel) “Later Tater!”
I like this, animation and video.
1:31. After working in a parallel crossing runway airport for 20yrs (CYYZ), I developed additional phraseology for just this situation, just to build a better picture for aircraft holding short...."Hold Short Runway 24L... DEPARTING TRAFFIC" Those last words made a big difference in what I saw out the window. Pilots actually held short!!!
Good video
I heard that the Gonzaga men's basketball team was on that Key Lime! Goodness.
How ANY of you pilots or ATC ever do this will always amaze me. And I’m an astrophysicist.
It just so happens that the Key Lime flight was carrying the Gonzaga men’s basketball team.
Heyyyy Later TATER 🙌🏾
Heyyy indeed
Great Controller.
Landing on the Northside of LAX there is no taxiway in between the runways, unlike the south side. Easy to forget when you’re under a bit of pressure.
I'm wondering if the hold short line has an automated alarm when someone crosses it, or if the controller is watching from a closer camera. The tower is kinda far away to see this clearly. Good job.
The Gonzaga University basketball team was on Key Lime. Does ATC get a blocked shot?
Drawing the foul.
I believe they have runway incursion detection/alert set up at LAX. (Remember Juan mentioning it after the crash in Japan last year).
It should really be mandatory everywhere.
nice. yeah that STOP STOP STOP isn't that they were going to cross I bet, they were just running up on it quick and the controller was right on the ball. hats off to lax
This wasn’t nearly as close as everybody seems to think it was. I saw another angle of this. The plane wasn’t even that far past the lights.
Pilots of Key Lime can’t follow instructions. The controller said to hold short of the runway. Not cross it
Great controller
Yes!! Give them a number!!!!
Pro ATC
It was the Gonzaga men's basketball team coming to town to play UCLA
Think we need a different angle on this one as it looks like it could be debatable. Really cant make out the position of the hold bars from the video angle and google maps unfortunately shows that turn off as being under construction.
At 2:06 you see a red sign with flashing lights. That sign indicates the hold short line and is directly next to the hold short line.
@@danielrose1392 I think I see it now, would still like to see a better angel, or an updated view of LAX to confirm
Incursion aircraft crew sounded either fatigued or apathetic or both. Safety very much losing out to operational resilience and profit atm. Culture prefixes a biggie traditionally. Lets hope tenerife doesnt happen again because of it.
Some of these comments. Good grief. The Venn Diagram of dudes mad that women work in certain fields, and men that complain when women won't work in certain fields is a single circle.
Oh yeah, that happens on any video where you hear a woman on the radio. (nevermind that it means they might not be the pilot flying) Without fail some mouthbreather will be rattling on about it in the comments.
You should have seen the comments on UA-cam regarding the Alaska Airlines door plug blowout, my word. Both of the cockpit crew were women, and they handled it like champs. Meanwhile, the vitriol about DEI, misogeny, etc. was off the charts.
@@BloodyackThese are the same dudes that have never played tennis but are sure they can defeat Serena Williams on the court. I hope they keep their energy all the time. Need life saving care, but only a female physician is available? Don't switch it up now.
The dreaded “phone number to call”. Ouch
At this point the days with close calls are the good ones.
It did not even look close, and the pilot acknowledged to stop short of the runway.
It looked really close indeed
Definitely appears to have passed the hold short lines, judging on the red flashing runway sign. Controller was on the ball though as soon as the plane passed it, welcoming to see that.
That was really cool with the video lined up to audio, well done
Did KeyLime cross the hold short bars? So if ATC wasn’t watching KeyLime they would have missed it? I didn’t know ATC had to visually watch aircraft on the tarmac. That’s a lot to juggle
I believe the hold short bars have sensors on them, so the front gear touching would have triggered an alert. It's very possible that the pilots just misjudged where the bar is and would have still remained clear of the runway, but much better to make that "stop" call than be sorry you didn't.
@@JDrapic Thanks! I learn so much from these channels and this community. Appreciate it.
According to the video (although not perfect angle to determine) it really looks like at least half their plan was past the line
Can you please look at into the smoke on a swiss flight December 23th in Graz, Austria. One stewardess died from the smoke now.
Did DAL471 rotate early to avoid potential collision? Take-off roll was about 35 seconds.
I don't think so
Sorry, but I don't think I could be an ATC controller because I'd immediately break out the desk whiskey after that incident. Don't know how that guy kept his demeanor after that
That’s probably a crew used to exiting 24L (the inboard to the taxi back) vs 24R (the outboard where you’ve got a runway between you and the taxi back). Expectation bias is a real threat. Just a WAG. Excellent SA by tower. If this controller is indeed retiring soon, that’s a loss for sure.
