  • This video goes over my nearly 20-year ownership history of my 1979 Volvo 244. It started as a 2.1 non turbo car, then got a 2.3 fuel injected turbo motor, and now has a Chevy 5.3 backed by a Tremec T56.
Join me as I take you though the history of car and we talk about the swap.

I love the history on this car more than anything. Easily one of my favorite 240s! Thanks for going through the deets!

Awesome story, awesome video. Stoked to see it ripping after all these years. I knew you would put the drivetrain to good use!

Can confirm, LS swapping a 240 makes it a lot more fun. I wish mine sounded as good as yours.

Can confirm removing what makes a volvo a volvo does not make it feel like a volvo anymore. Would recommend if you don't like driving a volvo.

You gave me more credit than I am due as far as purchasing the BMW 2002 and the 244! Your mother purchased the 2002, and your uncle negotiated an even swap with the mechanic, trading the BMW for the Volvo 244. BTW, the 2002 was blue at first. It later got the first class Earl Sheib candy red treatment!
I was very pleased. The 244 ran like a sewing machine for several years. If I recall, a 16 year old pressurewashing the engine bay started the slow cranking issues....we kept carb cleaner or startng fluid on hand always!

Mom buying the 2002 makes more sense, and her brother? getting her out of a bad deal. 16 yr old ruining an engine to make minimum wage, ah yes I can see it now.

Greetings from coastal NC. Great car with great history! I have a clean 91 240 I`ll keep stock. A few months ago picked up a rusty 82 240, $175 for parts, but decided to LS swap it, and restore the body. A serious chore by myself. Got the LS engine with 4l60 installed. STS parts. Sprang for the Aces jackpot harness/ECU, not installed yet. Plan to go w modified stock 2 piece DS and rear end for now. Same issue as you w the steering shaft, but did a slight mod that helped. Thanks for tip on PS! More chores to check off on this project. All it takes is TIME, patience and money! BTW, I`ll try to remember to put some straps under the DS, which I read is a good idea? 😉

+1 Can confirm LS swapped 240s are the way to go. I've had my turbo 242 20+ years and it's a blaaast now that it has a 408/s488/8.8

I purchased a Volvo 240 with a 350/400Trans swap in it with HEI ignition. Can I be in the Cool Club with the LS Crowd?

I have been bringing a 1990 240 back to life since oct of 23. I have been trying to keep it with the og b230 but this is a great sale for just LS swaping. Its an auto and I managed to find an AW71 for it. Do you have any advice for +t or just camming it to get more power? I keep getting the "just search the forums" where I find 20 ways to do it, but they seem to conflict on the build. Any help is appreciated!!

@@gruntsknowhowtoparty cam on an auto, NA b230 is a waste of time. I’d personally do an aftermarket ems with a +T instead of screwing with LH at this point, but that’s just me.

The 240 series Volvos are wonderful machines, I never thought they'd have the space for a V8, but wow. Awesome! Very cool indeed. It's a whole new vehicle. Maybe Volvo should have made some 240 series with a V8 even if they had to buy it from GM. I feel the 140 series should have maxed out with a straight 6. Volvos were always just slightly underpowered.

I'd much prefer a T5 or such to keep it within in the Volvo family, am sure LS swaps are great fun for those who drive them but its been so done to death at this point I'll just stray past the sight of one.
