Never be embarrassed Peter, your work on this car has been amazing to watch. Full pulls can always bring the weakness thats why most people use large V8's as they work less due to capasity . Lambo never made a car this quick 👍
Yes they did.. most every one is at least as quick as this car but not nearly as adjustable.. if somebody is dragging a lambo than they’re gonna have power adders as well and tunes for them.. theyve never released a twin turbo from the factory floors but they’re pretty nasty when done.. either way those cars are running 10’s off the showroom floors..
@@Z-Ackthe most recent lambo just about runs high9s/10s .... A v10 murcielago is a 12second car from stock. Underground racing spend thousands in R&D to build the 1800HP twinturbo street cars that you see racing. Its not just a tune and twin-turbos. So no, no they didn't.
Stiffen up the rear to reduce the drop and keep weight on the front tires. Loosen up the fronts coils to drop down faster and keep traction on the front. The front tires were slipping because they had no weight up front and were making the rear tires chatter and bounce.
21:33 this is the best little chortle, i feel like i was right there with you. THIS is why I'm here, and probably alot more of us, it feels like we are right along with you for the ride. Fingers crossed it isn't too serious and the engine is salvageable Pete!
Thank you Peter, very entertaining again. I'm not that much into drag racing but you bring a different perspective, and it's great! Really interesting and fascinating to see what can be developed with some ingenuity and blowing a few things up. I hope you learn a lot from your spark plug lessons - a bit of a shame that you didn't get many runs in, but well done on knowing when to stop. Looking forward to the next one!
*New Subscriber* : When I asked on today's Drag Week Livestream in the chat was there anything like drag racing in Europe, 4 or 5 guys said, "Yes, those crazy Swedes ! You gotta watch Peter Bjorck's channel !" So here I am ! That was terrific. I used to drive a Volvo 343 1.7 - I loved it ! So to see your machine go so fast is really thrilling ! Sorry that the sparkplug decided to self destruct. I hope the carnage is contained. All the best and greetings from Prague CZ
Mark your tires with a tire marker where the valve steam is to see if your tires rotate on the Rims, you might be loosing seconds by not putting the power down. Might need bead locking rims.
Thank you nice video. Strange to see a 145 with a 164 front end. I had one in South Africa but did it my self. Was my dayly car. Use to race a 144 in SA and made 156 HP on the wheels. Normal aspiration. Had 2x 48 IDA and the head was made in the Uk. I love Volvos.
The racing community is a great one to be a part of. Never be afraid to ask other drivers/builders questions, especially if this is your first time building & racing a car. I wish you continued success and remember, always have fun!
This was so much better than american drag racing, I really enjoyed the variety of cars and drivetrains. where I live when you go to the track all you see is new muscle cars, foxbody mustangs, novas, and a few g bodies thrown in.
Your Volvoginis are incredible builds and have a great sound and run like a spear. Fantastic to see. The little black OPEL Rallye Kadett is also really fast. Great movie. 😎👍
It looks like you need to get a lot more anti squat in the rear. If the car squats in the rear and picks up the front, its basically rwd. I'm not sure how to change that with the lambo/audi platform but i highly recommend looking into it. If the front has enough down travel then trying to get them to push into the ground might also fix it, but either way I think that getting more weight on the front tires will help massively with traction and stability on gear changes. Thanks for sharing this amazing beast that you've created!!
That sparkplug have seen better days 😂 i m so sad for you bro , hopefully is not too much damage on the cylinder 2... You did great ! Was a nice street Drag , thank you for sharing it ! 🙏
The front looks good. The back tire needs more air... maybe a 5 more psi should be good. Remember hot air rises and expands... so when u heat up the tires it will get bigger.. Love how the car have come to
I love the northern European drag racing scene. You not only have a lot of different body styles/makes but your engine options and methods of going fast are varied and innovative. Thank you for bringing all this to us Peter. P.S. What was that @06:33? The "Bjork flick"!
really cool checking out your build over time, very cool seeing some of your car culture! you chaps over there are not playing about~!! :) hope problem solving goes well
Peter the crumpled tyre wall is caused by the torque of the engine, the tyre walls have flexion to allow the contact patch to increase at launch. You can get information about it in the USA drag scene and aircraft landing gear tyre technology.
I have been following this amazing build since day 1 and I am very sad to see a setback like this, but we all know you will rebuild it bigger and stronger in that mad science shed of yours dude!
That spark plug is a pretty good indicator of a dropped valve unfortunately. As far as chassis tuning goes, I wouldn’t go any lower with tyre pressure and some spring and damper tuning may get some good results, but it’s never going to plant the tyre like a rwd car can.
Hope so much the engine will be ok again soon. Would love to see a V10 Volvo Amazon one day too. I grew up with a 144DL and a 164, they were superb cars to live with.
Beautifull Car. I remember that I was with 16 in Sweden, in Sjövala(Forest) in July to the Great Summer Festival. It was great❤very interessting Channel. 😊
In USA the tires are called “wrinkle slicks”. It is proper for them to expand surface on the ground. Then at high speed they “grow” in circumference from centrifugal force. The larger diameter gives a higher top speed.
Detonation can destroy a sparkplug like that. Worst case seems to be (?) rebuilding the lower end, I've never seen so much metal broken off a plug. Sorry to see you knocked out that way, this is the coolest volvo project I can think of.
I wonder if there was one car there with a souped up original engine in it :D I am not very educated on the subject but I've heard that u can get alot of power out of the 2jz engine. I admit i smiled alot when you said Volvoghini :D Loved this video! Thank you!
Ouch! That #2 piston is likely not much left of! 😵 Maybe you lost a valve? Expensive engines to break! Can you replace the sleeve if it is damaged or are they cast in? Anyway,,, just guessing now, but suspension... what I have heard/read about drag racing 4WD cars you as in RWD cars want less bump dampening and more rebound dampening in the rear. And since you have 4WD likely less weight transfer to the rear to get more use out of the front wheels' grip, so harder springs (maybe). Front end I guess pretty firm anti roll to keep it straight. It is a cool car anyway. And it should do good on track. Any floor/aero planned? On track it would likely benefit quite a bit from a flat floor and front & rear diffusers, it there is space. If no space a flat floor an a little rake. Keep up the good work. :)
You might considering to mark your wheels to see if the tire is slipping on the rim when launching that hard. Also since you have asked: You should consider looking into your rear damper compression, tightening it up a bit might help. If you bottom out on the launch, you loose all your traction since it unsettles the car. Once the rear does what it should, you can look into the front dampers aswell, if they need to be losened up for example. Idk how serious you are taking the racing but if you really want data on your shocks, shock travel sensors could help to dial in the launch reliably :)
I dont know anything about the drag racing, but I think generally it is good idea to put air also on the underside of the tire, not just the upper part. ;)
Gotta stiffen up the rear and slow down the front travel so it doesn’t hit back and unload the tires. But I’m very impressed with the launch with all stock setup. So sick!
I’m into track/race so I might be a little bit off, but is still a racecar and it has Öhlin race dampers. When it squats maybe you should let it sit down a little more with a few clicks less dampener but prevent that jumping with a few clicks more on the rebound.
Thats a great first race outing for a new build, top stuff! IMO the weight transfer looks like it can be more controlled, your front end wanders around but maybe thats just an audi all wheel drive but you could increase the damping and tire pressures and see if it goes straighter. -Damn I just saw the spark plug :(
Very interesting to see the swedish drag scene, these builds are all very unique! Here in the states the builds are also cool but it seems very copy and paste.
Great video and a staggering achievement given the short time you took to build such a complex car. Hope the engine damage is just a bit of detonation confined to the spark plug! Regarding the car bounce on set off from rest, do people run anti-squat suspension geometry on drag cars? My possibly simplistic understanding of these is that weight (load) transfer takes place in the suspension links rather than having to compress the rear springs and dampers. Seems a good way to get that power instantly to the tyre contact patches.

Correct, maby ramping the boost more, seems like sendt it all😊
Stiffen up what? The coil or damper? There is a big difference here, so this imprecise backseating is not going to help anyone.
