  • Over the summer, Megyn Kelly got a rare look inside Marine combat training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. There she joined recruits in rising before dawn for a 5K hike, breakfasting in the mess hall and tackling an obstacle course. “We have each other’s back,” one recruit tells her.

If men and women can hold the same combat roles they should both be held to the exact same physical fitness test requirements.

Exactly. That's why I'm training to pass the men's requirements. I'll be old enough to enlist in three years. I need to be able to run three miles in twenty five minutes, at the most, deadlift at least my entire body weight, everything else should be good to go.

Marine infantry units were clearly too extreme and not PC to show on television, they had to stick with the POGs. The POG image is daytime TV friendly.

I remember supplying fuel to military units on my 2 deployments to Iraq. My first deployment we were in the southern part of Iraq sleeping in crappy 2 man tents in the middle of the desert. A few grunts came by and were shocked by the crappy conditions we were living in. I didn't seem to mind it. Got much respect for the Infantry, but even pogs have it crappy too. I know they appreciated us being out there, without fuel their vehicles weren't going anywhere. Semper Fi!

Ralph Riffle one of our Company Hq clerks was a POG during the Evacuation of Saigon also at Tan Son Nhut Airport during a firefight. When the VC (VietCong) and NVA(North Vietnam Army) were shooting at us, they could care less if we were a Infantry Marine or a POG Marine. Yes Infantry are trained more for combat but our clerk (POG) did well. Always remember a Marine is a Marine no matter what MOS. Signed Old Marine Sgt 1973-1977, Semper Fi

I guess that boot didn’t read the study on the integration of females into infantry units that proved not only were women (on average) not better than men in combat units, but worse. They got hurt more often, scored lower on physical fitness tests, and scored lower on rifle qualifications. Plus their certain female needs made them a hindrance to combat effectiveness. On top of that, if Ms. Kelly wanted an accurate depiction of Marines, she should have gone to a fleet unit, preferably an infantry battalion and done some training with them. These boots have no idea what it means to be an actual rifleman nor will they ever due to the fact they are not infantry.

    • @dangerousthoughts790
      @dangerousthoughts790 6 років тому +2

Brandon Scott I’ve always heard that women are better shots then men, at least initially. This is because they obey instructions better opposed to most men who listen and do it their own way. But yeah women don’t belong in combat, wait until a real war and they have to hold a front line, they’ll cry feminism again and force the military to put them back in the kitchens and hospitals.

As a retired Soldier with 30 years active duty, 9 on jump status, Ranger qualified, my opinion of you chest beaters is that you have missed the point. Kelly and the Today Show did America’s fighting forces a huge favor. Those 99% of Americans who do not serve have little idea of what you do day-to-day, the sacrifices you and your families make, or the pain of a road march. It is a positive clip. Sit back and take the praise.

    • @sumandhabolkar2819

You really think the general american public wants to know what happens in an army camp or in a warzone. The general public wants to see soldiers who are patriotic, some little bit of training shots, cue some patriotic music, show guns, some drone shots etc. That's it. Most of them won't even take a bullet for the country.

He pointed out the army has everything the marines have except a whole lot more. He pointed to the large poster of Airborne Infantry in the sky under parachute canopies. He added you also get $70. a month extra. I went there to be a marine and left Army Airborn Infantry All The Way.

Correct your Title and information of this segment -- Marine Boot Camp is not At Camp Lejeune Megyn. That was a part of Combat Training school that comes after Boot camp it is NOT ANY PART OF BOOT CAMP which is for recruits that are earning their title as a Marine -- Parris Island and San Diego is were the true GRIT of a Marine is Forged and The Title of a Marine is Earned !!! You were way off on this post title --- When speaking of our Marines you need to get your information Correct -- you should be ashamed of yourself for getting this so wrong !!! To say all women can be in a combat roles IS false but some can. Some workout and can be as stronger than the average woman. It is harder for a woman to perform on an average man's pace BUT it's not impossible. That's like saying every man could do Combat jobs and we all know that's false. It's about the heart and the work ethic not about bout the gear in between your pants.

when i was in marine combat training we stood outside at night for 4 hours because people snuck using the soda machines and it was raining and super cold and we were all in our green Ts and shorts. I then had to go to fire watch because I was punished for being someone's buddy that lost their sweat top. after an hour had passed there was yelling and screaming across the camp and the combat instructors where asking for help over the radio. Apparently there was a riot & fighting between all the classes at the camp because of the soda machine incident. And apparently an instructor pulled his gun on someone... it was a great night as i finished the 2 hour watch looking for the ghost in the white dress that haunts the camp

The video was made for ppl who don't know ANYTHING about the military, just to give them a warm & fuzzy feeling. That's why majority of it was so unreal, she would never be in the fleet interviewing.

Too any Marines watching this that just graduated boot camp, the info specified above is wrong, regarding the hikes. That was the old POI, you now do a 10k, 10k, 15k, then a 5k, the 15k is then immediately followed by a 5k hike. I can only say this for SOI East. I just went through all of this so I can say all of this for complete certainty.

Haha, sounds like the combat arms in Canada are the same from the comments.. .basic seemed tough but our instructors were army, navy or air force. You could literally have some walrus mustachioed trucker with grease spots on his uniform as your section commander. But battle school was 10 times worse, your instructors were all from your trade with 10-15 years in, old injuries, on the 2nd or 3rd marriage, budding drinking problem, and still sleeping in the stage 5 trench they built in their backyard lol. It was a nightmare.

      Hi 👋Mike,
Don’t know what pog is in Marine Corps lingo. If this term has anything to do with music, my hubby can only listen to music, and our son only matches pitch because I can sing. My hubby was an air traffic controller while on active duty and then a crew chief on a small jet(can’t recall the type) where he and the pilots over him flew Major General Livingston all over the country. That was their primary mission. Our son was a tow gunner. Came in second in his class at Camp Pendleton from about 300 brand spanking new Marines, and the “top 3 Marines” in the class got to blow up a tank!
GOD bless our beloved United States 🇺🇸 Marine Corps!❤️🙏🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼❤️
P.S. I just googled the definition of POG.
