One thing that got me through Marine Corps Boot Camp was realizing the with all the recruits and only four Drill Instructors, they can't always be in your face. But when they are, sometimes all at once, it is pure HELL.

I'm not American, but I really dig the USMC Marines. I remember going to US Embassy and saw US Marines guarding it. I first thought these guys are stoic and strictly strict, but they were very nice and not to mention courteous as well. I just want to say... SEMPER FI! I went through marine boot camp at mcrd san diego in 1984.my drill instructors were tough, uncompromising, mean as hell at times, and intolerant of any misconduct or breach of rules, yet they were fair, and solid professionals who cared about what they did and who they trained.i didn't always like them, and 1 of my drill instructors ill hate til I die,but ill also respect all 5 of them til I die.they were the truth.semper fi

This brings back memories. When I joined the armed forces my drill instructors screamed, hollered and pummeled me endlessly. They subjected me to all sorts of humiliating punishments and PT'd me half to death. The only time I almost cried was when my basic military training was complete and I realized I'd never see these fine men again.

Thank You for your service. My Grandfather went through Parris Island in WW2. He said there were so many people being sent in at once, they didn't get uniforms for 2 weeks. And most of the DI's had only been in for about 4 or 5 months themselves since everyone was in combat. Aside from one brother who fought in Europe with the Army. His other 2 brothers were also USMC in Korea, and Vietnam. And until the day he died at age 86, he always said I AM a United States Marine.

I switched over and got to experience Army boot camp from week 2 until graduation at infantry OSUT at Sand Hill and it was a breeze. Army had nothing on boot camp. Of course it's a show for the cameras. I went through MCRD San Diego in 1986 and the recruit training filmsI saw before I got there didn't have DI's tearing the bark off you with cusswords. The Corps has been fighting this PR battle regarding boot camp since the 50's. The Marine Corps is still part of the larger American society it draws its recruits fromand every now and then has to reign itself in or be reigned in by Congress. This mostly happens during times of "relative"peace. Nobody ever seems to make videos where amother says her son got home in one piece thanks to the DI who slayed the shit out of him.

They will completely lay off of everyone at a certain point, though. I like how the Army has OSUT(where you do Basic Training plus your MOS at the same time) because then you don't have to worry about doing more training and getting yelled at again. it's all mind games and how well you can handle stress.

for what seemed like HOURS. Those were easy, it was the bends and thrusts you had be afraid of. A Marine in BC literally creates a puddle of sweat under their body during a good thrashing. Sliding in that caused a few broken noses during push ups, mine included.

Joy Woodworth yes there is always a Drill Instructor with the recruits 24/7. When taps play there will be one Drill Instructor in the office all night. They also get a certain amount of days off per month witch is only a few days.
When a Drill Instructor has duty the night before he usually gets part of the next day off.
A lot of friends had marriages end, just because of the amount of time they are away from their families. In the fleet we usually have a 12-16 hour day, for a Drill Instructor, even if he isn’t the duty over night, his day can consist of 18-20 hour days depending on what training day they are on and how early said training day starts.

Funny thing for me was 2nd phase was the worst part of Marine boot camp. I had never fired a weapon before and they taught me very well. I kept hitting the black every time (Expert) and my Drill Instructors hated me for that. Every morning during that phase I got blasted by them. Kept saying things like, "you think you're a Marine huh?" Or "your p***y ass ain't gonna shoot like that on qualification day!" But I did. I shot Expert my whole time in the Corps and my last qualification I even shot Expert left handed. Expert on 9mm too. I was SAW gunner in the fleet. I'll never shoot another weapon again in my life.
