I never knew my dad or my mom. I spent 18 years in 19 different foster homes. I went to 13 different schools before 12th grade and barely graduated high school because I couldn’t focus on anything but how wrecked my life was. As a kid, I never spent long enough in one place to have any close relationships with anyone. When I was 16, I learned that my mom and dad gave me up at birth because they didn’t want to be burdened with raising a child. At the same time, my biological mother told me that I was “just a mistake.” I had no real reason to be on earth and I had accepted that I would never really be anything in life because my first 17 years was one failure after another. 2 weeks before turning 18, I saw a Marine walking into a barbershop at a shopping center near my boys home. To this day, I will never forget how sharp and disciplined he appeared to me. I never talked to him and I never knew his name. What I most remember about him, is how confident he was without saying a word. In 1999, I stood on those yellow footprints at Paris Island and from that day; I gave the USMC everything that life hadn’t given me before that day. 24 years later, I am still a Marine and as long as they’ll have me; I’ll stay a Marine. Marines are my family. Unlike my parents, the USMC raised me and made me the man that I am today. They did in 13 weeks what my parents refused to do. The Eagle, Globe, and Anchor that I earned proved to me that I was not a mistake. Looking back on it all, if I hadn’t lived the life I lived; I’m not sure if I would have ever gone to Paris Island. As horrible as my childhood was, I’m glad it was the way it was. I’d do it all again if I knew where it would eventually lead me.

Semper Fi, old Devil Dog! I was a Hollywood Marine in August of '75, Platoon 1092. Hell, I still blouse my shirts and line up with military alignment when I dress. Yeah, I am who I am because of the USMC.

it's been 42 years since i left parris island. i only hope they haven't changed it. it was the toughest thing i had ever experienced. i had played football and baseball in school and thought i was in shape. they tore us down mentally and physically. we thought we were going to die. the training was 18 to 24 hrs a day. no weekends off. 1 phone call home in the 12 weeks we were there. were we abused? hell yes, and thank God for it. i was trained to survive in combat. the training i received kept me alive and got me home. Jeff rite i enlisted 2/8/68 ...u got that right hardest thing I've ever done. Abused? Hell ya...Vietnam 68/69 India 3/1 ...in 1988 went into Active Marine Corps Reserve ...at 38...backed up my 4 years to slide me under the age limit..had 3 months left of my 3 yr contract 41 years old Activated for Desert Storm! I was proud to go...again, and would do it again at 70 y.o. without hesitation..always a proud Marine . Semper Fi (If they only knew. )
They don't hold themselves as proud and put together as we did on graduation day. Out of step, bad posture, just not moving as One. The end result speaks for itself. Must have gotten softer.
Thrasher Dawg It will change your life for the better, once a marine always a marine, the brotherhood run deep. It will teach you tact , honor, respect, which is what half the people in this country lack “ ooh-rah marine Corp” Corporal USMC 1985
As tough as this looks on the screen, I'm sure it's at least 10 times worse in reality. I know one of my brothers would always tell my mother how the training sucked to do while my other brother embraced and possibly enjoyed the suck factor it has on people. Knowing what my brothers had to go through, what one continues to do, and hearing horror stories from my siblings, father, and close friends, I would still do anything in my power to earn the prestigious rank of Marine.
I’m in the delayed entry program leaving for bootcamp in august and this video gives me chills, this is the moment I’ve looked forward to my whole life.

I served 10 yrs in the Army..I have the utmost respect for Marines. They stood proud shoulder to shoulder with us over seas. No finer friends I've found.
Second only to becoming a Christian, joining the Corps was the Best decision I've Ever made ! Changed me, my course in Life and my future ! NOT easy or for the faint of heart, but anyone ,with the right mind-set , can do it. 247 yrs. the Marine Corps has guarded the U.S. A. ! OOH Rah !

@@eveharmony7426 you did great ma’am, I’m sure your proud. Thank you for your sons service, I hope to call him my brother. I leave for San Diego on January 18th.
In four years Im gonna wear that pin and no one and nothing will stop me from serving my country no WASWAS and No terrorists will stand in the way of the United States Marine Corps
My name is Terrance Herrera, I am a Marine Poolee currently in the delayed entry program on the island of Guam. It's always been my dream to earn the title of Marine. Since I was a kid I wanted to be one, and I cant tell you how excited I am to finally start realizing that dream. I'm pumped to be leaving within the next year, pumped and gunning for that title. Oorah!!
I've been in the U.S Army for almost 3 yrs now. My first choice back then when I first came to America was USMC, this video was one of those videos that motivated me into joining the military looking back into now having been deployed once, regretting a little bit that I should have joined the USMC. But I wouldn't trade it for the world for the experiences and people I've met through out my military career so far, the military does change you in a lot of ways you cant imagine. Graduated basic training in fort Jackson 2017.
It makes me remember my days at the Army sergeants school. Only who passed through a military Basic training will understand that feeling, while achieving victory! Greetings from the Brazilian Army! 🇧🇷
I'm a senior in high school and I've always wanted to be a marine and now that I'm finally able to join I wont lie I'm nervous. I'm not going to wimp out but all I can think about is all those who have come before me and must have the same thoughts going through their heads. I will be a marine no matter the cost no matter the pain. God bless the marine corps!
My brother he's now a United States Marine it was his dream becoming a Marine ever since he was little and I'm really proud of him that he followed and got to his dream
God Bless the Men and Women of the US Marine Corps. I wish that all Americans paid the respect and admiration due to this most formidable and honored unit!

I ship to recruit training on August 10th, and I can’t get enough of these videos. I’ve wanted to join the Marine Corps for a little over 10 years, and this year I turn 20. I’m so ready for this challenge coming in my life. Semper Fi!
Earning that title is the best thing ever. You're literally tired, hungry, exhausted, but then you stand in front of that monument and realize you fucking made it 😭😭 it was a few weeks ago for me and it still makes me cry because I worked my ass off for this title.
If I can go back and change some decisions, trying to be a Marine would have been one of them. I would’ve tried anyway I can tell you that. I never understood how much honor and respect that just the word Marine meant back then. When the toughest situations in the world rise up, who’s the fighting force to get the call to go in FIRST and fight through ANYTHING? The Corp. And that’s the man who people see for the rest of their lives.....the toughest men God made who always do more with less. Semper Fi Marines!
Beautiful, and brought tears to my eyes! God Bless these Men, and Women! So proud of all who serve! A friend of mine just finished her Crucible Saturday!
Great video - stepping on those yellow footprints can't be fully appreciated on video. MCRD San Diego, Platoon 2014, graduated April 25, 1975. Wonderful experience, hardest and best thing I've ever done. Thank you Platoon Commander SSgt Hyland, and Drill Instructors SSgts Dungans, Anderson, and Sgts Williams, Holycross and Wilk.
My grandfather was a Soldier in WWI...my father a Soldier in WWII. I am a MARINE. I truly hope in my heart we can avoid a third conflict. But if not, I stand at-the-ready like a Minute Man.
I think that I share this thought with all Marines! Twenty minutes after I hit the Yellow Footprints I said to myself "You fool, you fool, what did you do?"
+Lionheart Good luck brother, I had a similar plan as yours but I chose to go to college first. I hope I can accomplish my dream one day and go to OCS!
When I got to my first duty station in the fleet, they stuck the Eagle Globe and Anchor pin into our hands as our initiation into the platoon. We all had to clench it in our right hand for what seemed an hour. Hard core back then. Enjoy the ride.
Best 'boot camp' vid I've seen yet, and I've watched plenty. The story told here so eloquently on film, is extremely well written and edited, and excellently narrated. BRAVO!!
My son-in-law went to boot camp in San Diego. He was then an MP MCAS Beaufort, SC. He then trained at both MCAS Beaufort and Perris Island as an EOD tech. He has done very well, loves our daughter and their children, and I could not be more proud.
It was never really the plan to become a Marine like my dad, but after learning more and more, I feel like I have a sense of duty, to serve my country. Maybe not as a lifetime career, but at least a while! I'm currently living in Australia, and plan on joining the ADF gap year program to give the military life a shot, and if I feel like I can do it, I'll see that I talk to a recruiter when I go back to the states. Also are they playing waltzing matilda at the end? XD
The United States military the most powerful force on the planet, thank you to all of you, while you serve our country, completely voluntarily, away from your families, always in harms danger, to protect us from the bad guys. I have been there, and still appreciate all of my brother, and sisters for your tact, professionalism, honor, bravery, No words can say thank you for all you do, but THANK YOU OOH-RAH Corporal U.S.M.C 1985
My family is a military family. Marines, Army and Airforce. My family have fought in every military action and war this nation had participated in since the Revolutionary War. Many didn't make it home. All gave their best. I am the first generation born in the south, and I found one amongst the dead at Andersonville. I have worn my brother's MC ring since he graduated. My son in law did 2 deployments. Helmand Province and 11 months off the shore of Libya. I am very proud of him. He treats my daughter, who has proved herself worthy of a soldier and given him 3 beautiful children. It was never easy, he even missed the birth of their first child. But they never buckled like his family predicted. I even had a brother doing soldier sculpting at Paris Island. Man, did he have some funny stories! I've tried always to instill in them that there is honor in being a soldier. It is an honorable profession. But they have to provide the dignity. BYOD, so to speak. Bravery is a byproduct of knowledge, confidence and honor. It will be there when you need it. We are under attack. Make no mistake, Antifa is a terrorist organization. They have taken over territory armed. They have declared themselves not of our nation and they kill indiscriminately. They are breeding fear and distrust and and hatred among our people. They disrespect our flag, our glorious dead, our brave veterans and our beliefs. My question is...why are they still here? This is a job for my military, so what's the hold-up? They have damaged this nation irreparably with malice and forethought. People say our military will not fire on it's own, but they are not it's own by their own admission. They are baiting the citizens of this nation and soon the people will rise up on their own. They are not equipped for such an endeavor. We need the help of the those who are trained for such situations. What do we have to do to get relief from this?
When I grow up I’m going to join the U.S Marine corp. my dream started at an early age when I was about 3 years old when my dad took me to a Military museum where I saw Marine flipping rifles, their uniform and outfit was very fancy and very pretty. I was impressed with the military technology, that was in 2009 when I visited the museum. One time when I was in Mesquite Texas I saw 4 solder one soldier was manning a 50cal machine gun and the other 2 are passengers and 1 is driving an old 1940 Jeep. now I am 14 years old I am 4 years away from joining the Marine. I have been studying a lot about Military career and jobs. I want to be a combat Marine when I graduate the Marine basic training. The reason why I wanted to be a marine is helping my family because we are struggling to make money and when I get into college they will pay my college fee for me so in my future I get more opportunities. I’m not just doing it for my college I’m doing this for my family and my country.
Good story man, the four years will pass by quickly I was saying the same thing early in highschool and now i graduated this year and I’m going to bootcamp in November!
Just make sure you PT, I will be shipping in 3 months, what everyone is saying you will never be physically ready for boot camp, everyone tells me, you will get tired even if you are Superman
You’re a smart and good kid for realizing you can change your life at 14 through the marine corps. Good for you! If I would have had that mindset I would be so much better off now at 24. My husband in in boot right now for the same reasons you listed, only he learned about all of this at 23! You can do this! You will change your family tree.
Graduated today 2nd rtbn E co plt 2002 Glad to be a part of the brotherhood now I used this video as inspiration when I was getting ready for parris island
As a marine , and have been in for a while now , not really ever looking up marine videos on UA-cam sense I joined years ago , this popped up on my feed , I clicked it and when it went though each phase , I had memories I remembered clear as day and could see as if it was yesterday I woke up in my rack to go out and do what had to be done for the day ,and this brought back some motivation I felt I had lost , stay motivated Marines , semper Fi

it's been 42 years since i left parris island. i only hope they haven't changed it. it was the toughest thing i had ever experienced. i had played football and baseball in school and thought i was in shape. they tore us down mentally and physically. we thought we were going to die. the training was 18 to 24 hrs a day. no weekends off. 1 phone call home in the 12 weeks we were there. were we abused? hell yes, and thank God for it. i was trained to survive in combat. the training i received kept me alive and got me home. Semper Fi.

They don't hold themselves as proud and put together as we did on graduation day. Out of step, bad posture, just not moving as One. The end result speaks for itself. Must have gotten softer.

I’m going for the trident my guy
As tough as this looks on the screen, I'm sure it's at least 10 times worse in reality. I know one of my brothers would always tell my mother how the training sucked to do while my other brother embraced and possibly enjoyed the suck factor it has on people. Knowing what my brothers had to go through, what one continues to do, and hearing horror stories from my siblings, father, and close friends, I would still do anything in my power to earn the prestigious rank of Marine.

All these years have passed for me but the pride and emotion is still there. Semper Fi my brothers and sisters
Well documented. Thank you all for your service!!!
You should join jrotc in your school if you have it. I'm a freshman right now
Just make sure you PT, I will be shipping in 3 months, what everyone is saying you will never be physically ready for boot camp, everyone tells me, you will get tired even if you are Superman
You’re a smart and good kid for realizing you can change your life at 14 through the marine corps. Good for you! If I would have had that mindset I would be so much better off now at 24.
