As a Marine dad I tear up every time I watch this video. The emotions on the new Marines faces is hard for the rest of us to comprehend. My son was in surgery March 5, 2018 for a collapsed lung...on April 23rd he was on the bus to MCRD San Diego...and received his emblem on July 5th. That my friends is determination. Semper Fi to all the Marines out there and God bless.
Danny B my little brother is at Parris Island, SC right now, going on his 2nd week of boot camp. I can’t stop watching this video. I think of him and how he’s feeling now and how he’ll feel when it’s his turn to receive his EGA. I am so proud of him.. it’s hard because you’re so proud but so sad. I can’t wait for his graduation in Sept. God bless those that give their all for us on a daily basis. Semper Fi!!
My favorite possesion is a framed three line letter my son wrote me the day he received his emblem. It is proudly displayed in my hallway while he is deployed. A constant reminder.
I CRIED LIKE A BABY WHEN I BECAME A MARINE. HAD A FEW MOMENTS WHEN I WANTED TO TEAR UP AS A DRILL INSTRUCTOR TOO. VERY EMOTIONAL MOMENT THAT YOU'LL NEVER FORGET.
Best moment in my life so far. No better feeling than achieving that title Marine. It's really earned never given and that is what separates us from the other branches. Oraah Marines.
Wait..even after you all went through The Crucible, your DI's STILL treated you mean? Not understanding that at all. There's a time and place for everything but when you all went through it and FINISHED, all hats should've come off and should've given respect.. smh wow man, sorry that happened.
Dawn Briscoe it's old school boot camp, and we still had a month or so to go. My kill hat called us Maroots (jokingly, of course). Not yet Marines, not really recruits
My grandson postponed college to join the USMC. He just completed the crucible and is officially a Marine. 1st Bn. Bravo Co. Even if he graduates from Harvard later we could not be prouder. Hoo-Rah.
What I (being old and female, but very thankful for you all) cannot understand ( can't even watch this dry eyed) is why you want to be a marine knowing life will never be the same for you and it will be the the hardest thing you will ever do, and yet you volunteered! In WWII ( I said I was old) they were drafted, but you all are different! I personally stop and thank every servicemen I see, so THANKS TO ALL CURRENTLY SERVING TO DEFEND OUR FREEDOM, AND THE SAME GRATITUDE TO ALL WHO HAVE IN THE PAST!
With respect, in WWII, most Marines were not drafted. Draftees in the USMC during WWII were looked down on until they proved themselves. Marines are a different breed. Much of the ethos of the Corps is instilled during Boot Camp and then are solidified by the Crucible. The value of the EGA, that it is EARNED, is exemplified by the struggle of the Crucible. Couldn't be prouder of my two Marine sons. Wish I had done it, myself.
Even though I’ve been an Air Force guy for the last 15 years, I gotta say that the United States Marine Corps definitely has the highest espirit de corps among their members. The older I get, the more I enjoy watching the successes of all of my fellow brothers and sisters in the military, no matter which branch they serve.
I started to cry when my kill hat step infront of me , he said "welcome to the brotherhood ,brother" with his voice cracking. That shit was the best feeling
I enlisted on 09/11/2000. This was one of the best decision I ever made in my life. I left 4 years later, got a college degree and have an awesome career. I attribute my success to the Marine Corps. 3rd BN, Mike Co., Platoon 3107
I found out the son of one of my long time customers is currently going through the Cruicble this week. It's hard to believe the young lad coming in with his mom & grandma every week is now a man about to be apart of this service. I'm not even related & these videos get me emotional.

I graduated on the 16th of sept. Was in Charlie Company PLT 1045. All i can say is, every thing you do in boot camp has a reason for it. Pay close attention to your DI's because they will make you become a Marine and just have a great mind set on everything you do in there. If you ever feel like giving up just keep reminding yourself why you joined.
My son is a Marine he spent 13 years in the Marine Corps he did 3 tours and now he is a deputy sheriff so this is remarkable and congratulations to all those Marines We Are Family Once a marine always a Marine and we stay family
I carried a 90 lbs Vietnamese recruit named Boi up the reaper. He couldn't even speak English. Whe picked him up the last phase of training. I took him under my wing and got him through. I hope he tells his kids and grand kids about that Chicano Marine that helped him get through the crucible. 3rd battalion Plt. 3049 MCRD SD SDI SSgt. Garibay "The House of Pain"
No way! I was hiking the Reaper right behind you in the spring of '02, Plt 3050, SSGT Garcia. Ben King from 3049 was my roommate for awhile in 3d LAR. Wasn't it your platoon that had to take all of your racks out of the squad bay and reassemble them on the parade deck? One of your DI's (SSGT Johns, I believe) told us to look out our windows and point and laugh at you guys. Felt kind of bad doing it, but it was one of boot camps funnier moments. Crazy small world. Semper Fi, brother!
I leave in 5 days. Nervous yet excited all at the same time and ready to be a Marine. Respect to all the men and women who have completed the challenge I am about to take on.
Stephen McNaught I leave in 5 weeks. By the time your back I'll be there. Looking forward to coming back to this comment and seeing we're both marines.
My brother is a Marine. It's powerful watching this, to see how special it is for each man to earn and hold that famous emblem. I now get to see what my brother experienced. Very moving
We went to San Diego MCRD for my sons graduation Sept 13, 2019. On family day, my son handed me his emblem and told me this is for you. As a father I was taken back and was speechless. I tried to be emotionally strong in front of my new Marine but couldn't help to tear up. After seeing this video, I can only imagine the price he and many recruits paid through boot camp and through the crucible. It is such an honor to have a Marine in the family. When we came home for his 10 day leave I showed him this video and he said yes that's exactly what it was like. Thank you to all those serving.
I will never forget the moment I received my eagle, globe, and anchor. My kill hat, SSgt Lopez, saw me with tears running down my face and I will never forget what he told me. “You crying already Macias, I’m not even surprised. I want you to know two things, one, you always looked like you were ready to breakdown every time I IT’d you so that comes to no surprise, and two, the determination one has is shown by their emotion and from the first day I met you till today, I’m so proud of you. Never forget who you are and keep showing your determination, welcome to our family”. August 1st-October 27th, Delta Company, platoon 1065.
I cried watching this video because i wanted to be a MARINE but it doesn't matter in what branch i serve in as long as i serve my country . Thank you guys for all you do for this beautiful country
Graduated in 08. they have changed things a bit but it's still the same. EGA ceremony is a fucking epic thing to any Marine. and that is a title no one can take away. I may be out and homeless but I am still a fucking Marine and I WILL survive

Haha I went through that 11 years ago, when the Crucible was at the end of SECOND phase. I still had a whole 4 weeks of training left. Our Crucible ceremony was a bit less ceremonial than this. We didn't earn our EGA or title of Marine until 4 weeks later on the parade deck lol
It was the same when i went through but my drill instructor handed out extra egas he had on hand the night before so that ones we recieved during the ceremony wouldn't be so special.

I got bit by a brown recluse back in early 2000 doing my last weeks in san onofre. I had just got out the hospital. Right after I was dismissed from the hospital the next morning i did the crucible. Mind you, I had 1 1/2 leg. My right leg was screwed, so as I climbed the reaper, I scratched my way on the last part of that hill. When I got to the top I could see our barracks. God, I remember that joy in heart that's unforgettable and my company commander telling me congratulations. No money nothing can ever buy that joy I felt. It's something every marine takes with him until his last day. Semper fi brothers, remember your oath from day one, even in these days we are living in. I went through in 1989, and we didn't have it at that time. Boot Camp, by far, is the hardest thing that I've ever been through. MCT felt like the unofficial 4th phase of boot camp because it was very intense. Watching all of you at the EGA ceremony brought me to tears. I know that your emotions could not be contained, and neither could mine. I cried with you and I'm very proud of you all. I've since retired from The Corp, and I would bet that some of you may have been under my command. Wait a minute, let me rephrase that shit. I would bet that, WE SERVED TOGETHER, that's much better. I even got up and stood at Attention and sang our hymn along with you!! My wife came in to see what was going on, and she stood at Attention and sang!! From one warrior to another, you have my GRATITUDE, my RESPECT, my HONOR, and most of all, you have my THANKS!! Welcome to the fleet!!
I really wish I went into the service. I went and talked to the recruiter but I had already done damage to my life and I just couldn’t get in. I was never officially told no but every recruiter ask about background and after they find out they indicated with my juvenile record and the dui as an adult pretty much sealed the deal and I would be able to get any waivers to get enlisted. Now I’m 35 and I really regret not doing something important with my life like these young men. I’m gonna encourage my son to go in when he becomes 18.

the morning of our warriors breakfast...everyone else was had pretty much everything on chow..eggs..bacon sausage..pancakes..fruit..grilled veggies..potatoes..fries..biscuits..ect...me...I had 2 pieces of toast..and a water....the other guys asked me why?? all I could say was...after you go through the same hell as our fellow marines has before..then youll know.
Agreed. I've been out 4 a year now and that is one of the things I can still vividly remember about my time in boot. I zombie walked the entire way back.
Marnines graduate: *starts crying*
Army graduate: “drill sergeant you wanna take a picture?”
I never took a selfie with my drill sergeant

I saw a lot of dudes cry at Benning
@@epjpeg no I knew exactly what they would've said
Haha have you seen army basic training. It’s fucking pre school compared to Marine Basic. Especially in ole Paris island. Fuck the army.
The title is more important than any enlistment bonus....rank increase. It’s something I’ll never forget
Exactly!
The title still sticks, after 43 years post graduation: 9May1977, Plt. 3037, Senior Drill Instructor SSgt. J. N. Moch 3rd Bn. Paris Island. I was a 3 year contract, back then 3yr., could only make E-3, unless you extended. I’ll never forget SSgt. Moch, nor my Gsgt. We had in the FMF.
We had Elliot’s beach, on PI back then, still remember the gas chamber.

Semper Fi!!
God bless and God speed to your son - a MARINE
@@bmbutler2 Thank you
That, sir, is awesome. Thank you, to you and him. Semper Fi
My favorite possesion is a framed three line letter my son wrote me the day he received his emblem. It is proudly displayed in my hallway while he is deployed. A constant reminder.
"To try and accomplish what many dare to try."
Don't try, you DO and COMPLETE
Oorah!!
RAH!!
Young Oorah What's up fucker
halo sergeant is all I hear
Joshua Saefong Tan well I sure remember going through 10 weeks of bullshit to earn the title soldier. Every serviceman earns their title.
This we'll defend! Hooah!
Lol they only film the emotional motivational parts. My DIs still hated us lol and called us nasty things after.
Young Oorah same here. We didn't get ours until we got back to the rear
Not yet Marines, not really recruits
dawn. wtf are you talking about.
Haha same we still got some time on the quarterdeck during marine week
My son starts the Crucibal this morning at 2AM. Graduation next Friday....can't wait to see him.
Those who do it, cant imagine NOT doing it!!
I’m going to sign right when I turn 17 so in a couple months
tjrocks good luck
With respect, in WWII, most Marines were not drafted. Draftees in the USMC during WWII were looked down on until they proved themselves. Marines are a different breed. Much of the ethos of the Corps is instilled during Boot Camp and then are solidified by the Crucible. The value of the EGA, that it is EARNED, is exemplified by the struggle of the Crucible. Couldn't be prouder of my two Marine sons. Wish I had done it, myself.
Not all World War Two servicemen got drafted. Take Audi Murphy for instance
My Grandpa age 85 👴🏼 is a U.S Marine Served 10 years 1952-62 He was an MP E-5 🇺🇸😎‼️

This made me cry. My nephew just recently completed his Crucible, and I couldn't be more proud of him!
I found out the son of one of my long time customers is currently going through the Cruicble this week. It's hard to believe the young lad coming in with his mom & grandma every week is now a man about to be apart of this service. I'm not even related & these videos get me emotional.
My boy is doing the Crucible this week as i type. I'm crying my eyes out watching this. Sooo proud of him. Semper Fi little guy. Your father loves you ❤

29 more days until I leave for Recruit Training! I'm nervous but also excited for this new start in my future.
Same on October in San Diego
I graduated on the 16th of sept. Was in Charlie Company PLT 1045. All i can say is, every thing you do in boot camp has a reason for it. Pay close attention to your DI's because they will make you become a Marine and just have a great mind set on everything you do in there. If you ever feel like giving up just keep reminding yourself why you joined.

My son is a Marine he spent 13 years in the Marine Corps he did 3 tours and now he is a deputy sheriff so this is remarkable and congratulations to all those Marines We Are Family Once a marine always a Marine and we stay family
Great job Marines. Wear the EGA proudly. You earned it.
Retired Chief Phil
Thanks Chief! I earned the title almost fifty years ago. I teach high school mathematics and I wear a Marine Corps lanyard every day proudly.

My brother is a Marine. It's powerful watching this, to see how special it is for each man to earn and hold that famous emblem.
I now get to see what my brother experienced. Very moving
“New marines hike 3 miles and are treated to a celebratory breakfast” the hike back was definitely not 3 miles more like 9
Field barrack to the chow hall was 2.5, let alone top of the Reaper XD
It’s not 3 miles idk whoever said that lmao
the hike back was the hardest part 😂
Thats it 9 miles my army infantry one was 20 miles with 80 lbs on my back no stops
Saul Payan running vs carrying gear up and down hills over and over I think I’d run 15 miles as well
My company and I became marines on 10/31/2013. We went tricker treating for EGAs on top of that very hill. It’s a memory I cannot forget
God bless your son. God bless you for raising such a fine young man who is now a MARINE. My nephew is at Parris Island right now.

That CO seems genuinely proud and caring of his new Marines. Leadership.

I cannot wait to be in the Marines and become one of The Few and The Proud! I'm 18 and recently graduated high school and I've been waiting 13 years to join the branch I've looked up to and think of as heroes and badasses. I get to go in December. I'm excited of what's to come!
How are you
How you think you did with your
decision
