  • With such a pleasant smile on her face, Loretta says it like it is and calls out another woman who has bad intentions with Loretta's man. Let us pray...

She has a more explicitly-violent song along the same subject called 'Fist City' which is the one of the pair that I prefer.

Loretta said in an interview for the PBS American Masters documentary called Loretta Lynn: Still A Mountain Girl that a female fan found her in the dressing room one night before a performance and confided in her that another woman was trying to take her husband away. So Loretta and this young girl went and peaked out of the curtain so Loretta could see the girls husband sitting in the audience with that rival. Loretta said she looked out and saw this painted up woman sitting next to this girl's husband. Loretta said she looked back at that sweet little girl and told her "Honey, she ain't woman enough to take your man." Then she went back to her dressing room and wrote the song in ten minutes.

"Killin' 'em with kindness" is a fine art for Southern ladies. Make no mistake, though; a Southern lady is tough, quick and capable of physical altercation if you cross the line! Personally, I try my best not to piss them off.

She is the complete definition of "country." I was going to mention "Fist City" and how I believe this song had some truth to it in her own life. She does another funny song called, "Hey Loretta, I Love you more than my Irish Setter." She has an equally beautiful sister who also performed, Crystal Gale. I believe there is some Native American in their lineage, which gives Loretta those beautiful cheekbones. Great choice.

There is an interview she did about this song and said she wrote this after a fan found her back stage and told her about the fans husband being in the audience with another woman she said she went into the dressing room and wrote the song in like 15 mins. She said the song fist city was written about her husband and an incident with a school bus driver

Loretta Lynn was the real deal. She would catch her man cheating, bless him out, beat the crap outta the other woman, go home and cook supper, cause she knew that man was coming home, and then write a song about the whole thing. All the while looking great doing it. Not too many like her, for sure.

All of Loretta's songs are from personal experiences or from someone who told her about theirs. Her husband "Doo" sure gave her many reasons to write songs. Fist City, Your Squaw's on the warpath, Another one's on the way, The Pill, and so many others are hers and her husband's life.

I guess you've already told this but I'm telling you again. Dew was a notorious womanizer and all her cheating songs were true stories that happened in her life. Almost all the songs she writes are based on her life events.

Hi Don. Thank you for reviewing this song. I’m new to your channel. I have been binging your videos for the past 3-4 days. I have a few suggestions of artists and their songs for you to review:
Eddie Rabbit- all of his songs are great but American Boy and Repetitive Regret are my favorites. He was a NJ born singer/songwriter
Steve Wariner- all of his are great also but Life’s Highway and Small Town Girl are really good.
Gary Morris- 100% Chance of Rain, Secondhand Heart and The Love She Found In Me are some of his best
Rodney Crowell- After All This Time, Many A Long And Lonesome Highway and Fate’s Right Hand

Don , new subscriber here , really enjoy your reactions. Drove truck for 40 years and listened to a lot of country music , had to get satellite radio to hear the good stuff. I like a few of the newer artists , not many . MIRANDA, ERIC CHURCH , a few others. If you get a chance check out Eric Church, the song "These Boots", it's his older stuff , not the stuff he does today. Thanks , keep up the great work, lots of people like me out here.

@Aubry Garrison Thank you for encouragement and your taste in music! Miranda and Eric were two of the artists that drew me into country in the first place, then when I started the channel folks saw I liked deeper stories and started recommending traditional artists. I was hooked. I don’t mind a variety of music, it for the channel I like sitting down and experiencing something I’ve never heard before, and traditional takes me to another place. Or Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jason Isbell, Tyler Childers, and so on. Welcome aboard the channel, and keep on truckin’!
