Rocky is a 1976 American sports drama film that won the Oscar for Best Picture, directed by John G. Avildsen, written by and starring Sylvester Stallone. It tells the rags to riches American Dream story of Rocky Balboa, an uneducated, kind-hearted working class Italian-American boxer, working as a debt collector for a loan shark in the slums of Philadelphia. Rocky, a small-time club fighter, gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship. The film also stars Talia Shire as Adrian, Burt Young as Adrian's brother Paulie, Burgess Meredith as Rocky's trainer Mickey Goldmill, and Carl Weathers as the reigning champion, Apollo Creed.
Principal photography for Rocky began on January 9, 1976. Filming took place primarily throughout Philadelphia, with a few scenes being shot in Los Angeles. Inventor Garrett Brown's new Steadicam was used to accomplish smooth photography while running alongside Rocky during the film's Philadelphia street training sequences and the run up the Art Museum's flight of stairs, now colloquially known as the Rocky Steps. It was also used for some shots in the fight scenes and can be seen at the ringside during some wide shots of the final fight.
Sylvester Stallone is a living legend, he is such an inspiration 🥀❤ he literally came from nothing, and deserves everything he's got 🥀❤ unlike the Kardashian/Jenners 🙄
#FACTS ❤❤
Living legend indeed!!! Has Scott done one on Ed Gein? Now that guy is a legend!!!! Sooo many movies came from that dude!!! Have a great weekend brother and be safe👍
He actually stole this whole movie and based on another mans life. His name is Chuck Wepner. He’s from jersey. Chuck actually sued him for it
@@recoveringfatboy5660 No he didn't steal it lol, it wasn't already in existence, he just got inspiration from the Ali Wepner fight, leave hater.
@@AngelOfDeath1986 😂😂😂 ok he used his name to promote the movie. And Stallone settled out of court. 😂😂 but believe what you want
It’s really neat to see the locations where Rocky 1 was filmed and see it 45 years later
It's hilarious that you are completely unphased going to those very sketchy city locations, but you were so concerned when you visited Madonna's boat! Great vid as always
I jumped on this 1 so fast. I love the Rocky movies.
Little movie trivia. 1 of the guys singing on the beginning is Sly's brother Frank
Take it back mmmmmmm take it back
Fascinating
He's also the Bum from the dark Rocky says hey it's the bum from the dark get a job you bum that was also Frank
You guessed it, Frank Stallone
Frank Stallone was in a band in the 70’s called Valentine. They released one album in 1977
Some parts of Philly are terrible though! Haha. We lived in a suburb and that’s probably a reason why I never went and saw these locations besides the statue LOL. Glad you’re safe!
Yea it’s an eye opener Nick for sure!

I flew into & drove from Philly to Dallas in April. Daaaaamn, long ass drive. I knew it was however it felt sooooooo much longer driving vs "Waze-ing" it. 😆
You SAY you're not good at impressions but I thought it was a voice clip.
HOLY SMOKES, LOCK YOUR FRIGGIN DOORS & keep windows up as best as you can. I understand you were filming I'm just saying, I would have been freaked the hell out. I couldn't do that by myself. I freak out with oddball characters. Mainly because I'm a single mother to a 6-year-old son so I wouldn't have done that. However since you're by yourself, obviously less danger but it is still DANGEROUS & I KNOW I am NOT the only one who cares about & wants you safe. Hopefully you packin heat. [Or maybe Darryl [Daryl?] is/does. 😆🤘
YOU AND your channel are very well done. I like the way you speak to us in the videos. It's seems much more like a friend telling us stuff.
WOOOO let's fucking go ROCKY Filming locations doesn't get much better then this Scott u just became a Legend with this one 🔥🔥👍✌️
Hope you like it man !!
I work in Philly and I pass these locations every day you are spot on
I don’t know what I like more, the video’s or you Lmaoooo
Best commentator ever ❤️
Haha thank you Elly! Your name still freaks me out a bit when I first see it!!
@@SCOTTONTAPE LOL glad I’m memorable 😂😃👍🏻
I just saw this video… I laughed so hard!! I live in Delaware but it’s only 15 minutes away to Philly… and yes it does stink… 😂 thank you for bringing me to laugh… I so needed this. ❤️
17:25 “ the fresh fruit sucks but the garbage smells great” 😆
"People get like halfway up and just say ...ahhhhhh f#$k it" had me rollin!!!!!🤣🤣
you were in zombieland scott. i went through there to look at the rocky house too and i got stuck at a redlight look over to my right and some dude whips off his belt wraps it around his arm and starts shooting up. i had my wife and kids in the car so that was a weird situation. good thing kids werent paying attention and light turned green
Thank you for walking us through.... Thank you
Love this movie so inspiring! I spoke to his wife Jennifer when I ordered some skin care products off of her! Sweet lady, my first talent show was a baton routine/dance to "Eye of the Tiger" LOL YOU made it out alive!😬😅👍
I love Rocky and your singing but next time hydrate!! This was great!! Now when are we going to have your greatest hits? My mom and I are waiting!
Lololol my album drops Friday at midnight
Ok I see what you meant about the filming locations! And yes it was the Spectrum in Philly and it was torn down. I can't believe you were so close... I'll see you next time.
Thanks Scott, awesome video. Always appreciate the effort you go through to film. As Rocky said in 2006, "Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows". Rocky has so many classic lines but I don't think they will beat yours, "That's a nice glow, I look like I'm covered in afterbirth", love it
And did you catch that, "Speaking of scenic" line at 19:23? I thought the same thing a split second before he said it lol.
Met Burgess Meridith in Dallas at the movie premiere here
You should have said HEY YO!! MICK!!!!! LOL
Adrian fills gaps, I fill gaps…. Together we fill gaps😎
I shared it with my momma. She loves these movies too.
I just got to watching this video a year after Scott put it up. Sorry, I'm slow on viewing content. The original Rocky movie is hands down one of my top 20 favorite movies of all time. The streets of Philadelphia are so tight and narrow. No parking anywhere. I applaud Scott for lining up all the shots. I love the same screen split footage comparison from then and now. A lot of other You Tuber Channels don't take the time to do that in their videos. One has no way to compare then and now unless doing it yourself on the computer. Awesome!
I love Rocky. This was awesome!!!
SCOTT! WHAT IS UP MY MAN!!?? Another great video...AS ALWAYS! When you said "Atomic Wedgie" I lost it!...I'm immature....and still a child...🤣🤣
Lolol
"SPEAKING OF SCENIC" Love it hahaha. Made my day.
Rockey is my love! I can binge watch every single film. Classic all the way! Doug and Tracy here! We love you so fuckin much💗💗💗💗💗
Scott you made a comment about the parking and the streets. I used to drive a semi truck and went into Philly. That's definitely something I wish to never to be apart of ever again
Wow! I didn't know that Philly was that bad! I was laughing so hard listening to your commentary of the people you encountered. Filming locations is my new favorite thing. Keep doing what you do. I love it.
You do such a great job of these videos. I love the way you overlay the movie footage so we can see exactly how it's the same location. And, what an iconic movie to do. Just thinking that in 1976 when he filmed it, Stallone was just an absolute nobody, with a completely uncertain future. No way in hell did he think he was making something iconic that was going to be just as big almost 50 years later as it was when it came out. Not only is the movie one of the most endearing and iconic ever made, but so is the theme and the soundtrack. Not just the theme, but that melancholy piano music you used, and that was used throughout the movie. 100 years from now, people will still be talking about what a great movie this is.
Ah my hometown. Glad you stopped by!
19:31 😅😅😅 "Speaking of scenic" 😂
I loved Sylvester Stallone. Oh man, he was my guy! I just loved him and everything he did. Thank you for this wonderful video. Wow!! We ate at Pats!!
Hi Scott hope you are good. I love the Rocky's they are the best I have seen all of them. He train hard for them movies. He is one of my favorite actor. Great video thank you Scott your the greatest.
Watching all the Rocky movies again for like the 20th time I reckon and who better than to give me guided tour haha, I love what you do Scott!.... you da man haha
met Sly in 2014 for about 1 minute got to talk to him, mentioned to him how Rocky V was great and not to listen to the critics, said ' he appreciated it', great video Scott, some rough locations to try and film there
5 was ok but Rocky 4 was the best followed by Rocky 3 IMO!
It's always cool to see a place you have visited so you can point and say Hey I've been there and stood right where he's standing! :) Philadelphia is a beautiful city but the forefathers really didn't take into consideration the parking situation :)
Lol no they did not
I'm from Maryland I was there today as well I could not get to the statue because of the concert it is the hardest place I have ever driven no doubt
Always a pleasure to come along with you Scott, thank you!
I was born and raised in Philly. Scott you blend right in. I mean that in a great way. Very confident and passionate.
Thank you Mr. Jones!
“I wish I was loaded” comment of the year.
Thank you, Scott! As always a great video tracking down all these filming locations. Appreciate your perseverance and detail in getting all these shots in rough neighborhoods. Be careful out there! I'm still so appreciative of the Madonna Papa Don't Preach Ghost Ship. You're the best!
Thanks Scott! That was awesome. Your impressions of Rocky and Mickey were great. Too bad they tore down the pet shop and bar. 2 iconic locations but suprisingly a lot is still there!
Went to Drexel between 97-2001 for my undergrad! Right behind and to the left of the PMA!
Wow, a lot of work in the heat. Enjoyed it very much. Highly entertaining. Thanks.
I am old enough to remember when this came out. My sister had the soundtrack on vinyl. Boy I am. Than you for risking life, limb and parking fines to bring this to us. Love this movie. Thank you brother.
glad you are safe. you went to some bad areas in that city.
I have never watch a Rocky movie but will watch this with the ads Scott with a thumbs up 👍. Don't burn yourself out, you look a little tired AND KEEP HYDRATED. Much love from Australia 💛🇦🇺 xx
Never loved a character as much as rocky
This video ROCKS! thank you!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊
After hearing what you went through filming these awesome locations I am glad you are safe. Thank you for filming this awesome vlog.
Scott great video buddy 😎 glad you're safe and sound 😎
Thank you man I’m good!
Now i want to watch 🥊ROCKY🥊
Scott awesome video keep up the great work
During preproduction, as the filmmakers tried to find a good location to shoot the fight, they met with constant obstacles - every suitable arena was booked out. Sylvester Stallone knew that HBO had an upcoming PPV event with Bernard Hopkins taking on Jermaine Taylor in the main event, at the Mandalay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Stallone suggested that the film could piggyback the real event, using the real HBO format, the real crowd, even the real press conference setup. As such, the press conference scene was shot only moments after the real press conference with Hopkins and Taylor, whilst the scene when Rocky walks through the curtain and down to the ring was shot using the real Hopkins/Taylor crowd. Stallone was hoping that the crowd wouldn't boo or cause any problems, but as he made his way to the ring (as Rocky), the whole building gave him a standing ovation and began to chant 'ROCKY, ROCKY'. The crowd was never told to stand up or to chant - they had done it completely on their own, and according to the filmmakers, by far the biggest cheer of the night was for Rocky, not for any of the real fighters.
awwwww man Scotty Thanks for covering this one man. my Grandpa came off the Boat from Sicily and he was a middle weight back in 1930's . He fought to put food on the table. Fighting he said so know one else had too. Rocky and the Movies give me Chills always!
Always consistent and deserves respect. Great channel!
19:29 - my man was on Q... " Scenic, speaking of scenic." 🤣😎😎😎
'Atomic wedgie' 😂😂 Awesome video, Scott. Thank you for this. 😎🤘
Few years back my ex and I toured all these locations. Great Vlog!!
ROCKY IS AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE
Great video..Rocky one of my all time faves and I was born in '76 and to see how much these locales have changed and speaks to how old I'm getting but that's besides the point...ANYHOO..I was hoping you'd say "Screw you CREEPO" showing Little Marie's house😂 Nice video and a great series of videos! Keep it going!
Loaded and what’s being loaded hilarious 😂 Scott , great video and love your humour
The picture of Justin Bieber was scary. The studio wanted to buy the script/rights to Rocky from Stallone & he said "NO". The smartest decision he ever made. I didn't like the statute not being on top of the stairs anymore. Its not the same. Stallone has appeared out of no where & surprised some tourists on top of the stairs when the statute was there
Love your videos and look forward to everyone! TY Scott!
Great video as always my friend!! Great movie!! Thank you for taking us to the movie locations!! You are a great guy!! Stay blessed!! Love you and your channel!! 💙❤️😇🙏🙏🙏💖💖✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
I laughed when you started singing "Eye of the Tiger".."that's not till part 3"😄 loved all the Rocky movies, but part 4 was my fave..when he defeats Drago.
Yeah 4 was the best with Rocky beating Drago in Russia followed by part 3 with Rocky getting his rematch against Mr.T and beating him and getting his title back with Apollo Creed Training him
Love all the Rockies just my fave
Thanks for all of your efforts to make this video happen. VERY much appreciated. Working from home, this video inspired me to watch Rocky 1 for the millionth time. Thanks
Since the statue was removed from that location the stairs, i very much admire how his shoe print and name is there.. Very nice and dedicated way to honor him from the film. us fans to see he did that, he was there. And nice to see that he alive to see all this. Very humbled.
I. LIKE. ALL THE. ROCKYS. MOVIES.👍👍👍👍👍👍
very cool! great reflection! how times have changed. same old place same old town but different places different faces!
Wow one of the most iconic and beloved movies 🎥 of all time great vlog Scott 👏
México loves Rocky, I'm your fan Mr Scott. Saludos hermano!!
There is a guy who gives Rocky filming location tours. He could’ve helped you find more. Great video tho 😊
Yes, his name is Mike Kunda. 😊
super grandioso resumen locacion muy buen video good video
love the rocky and creed movies thankyou so much scott you be careful in these areas big hugs xxx
Scott, that’s where I was born and raised!! South Philly!! My School “Epiphany of our Lord” it was called, and the convent parking lot for nuns they walked through , and my church I attended!! I remember it well!! We kids went crazy over this filming! We were quite proud as well!!! I don’t live live there no more, but I visit frequently. I have a whole Italian family still there, including my mom! That is the Benjamin Franklin Bridge , it’s near the Delaware River!!! I’m pretty sure 😊 Love this💕
Awesome video. I’m from South Philadelphia and live not far from a few filming locations so it was so cool to see you do this video and yes parking here is so bad haha and FYI yes some parts are rough around here some of our people don’t like strangers lol. I don’t mind people coming in seeing the filming locations I think it’s very cool and I’m sorry you had trouble.
Such a good video Scott! Thank you 🌹
Thank you Rosanna and thank you for the gifts yesterday !
@@SCOTTONTAPE More than Welcome! So honoured and happy to meet you in person Scott. Made my year.
Original Rocky is my favorite. Philly is an anomaly...nowhere else like it. Have lived close to it for over 30 years and it still is surreal to me each time i go there. To see the locations match up like that after all this time...shows that not much changes. Love the video! ...all the time put into making it...especially in Philly on a hot day.
Great location revisit👍 and yes some parts were very scenic😎😄
Love it scott. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Good work as always! :)
Thanks for this. Grew up in South Philly.
Scott you go from state to state quickly it seems. I would love to meet you in person. I think everybody loves your videos. Keep it up....
Where do you live man ?
Lawrenceville Georgia
Philly is my city! I live outside of Philly really in the jersey burbs but when I go to a city it’s Philly! Been there many times and I love it!! Thx for paying tribute to sly and his movies! Well done Scott!! Ps if you don’t know the areas some are very bad as in most city’s.
So glad you covered the filming locations of the movie that started it all, the original Rocky. I once lived in the neighborhood where Rocky's apartment was, the interior was a rooming house on 4th Street in downtown Los Angeles. Glad you had a chance to get those shots, because that area is more dangerous now than when I lived there in the late 80s.
I've always wondered about the interior of the apartment. Was the upstairs there too? Is the place still around?
@@danielevich6021 I'm not sure if the building is still there, since downtown LA has undergone gentrification in the last few years. James Spencer, who was the Art Director on Rocky, mentioned it in an article that I read and said there was a palm tree outside the window that they had to cover with a brick wall, since it was supposed to be set in Philadelphia.
@@Phillyguy316 Can you give me the address of the place? Is it near western Ave., or Figueroa? I've always wanted to see the place. I would go during the day to see it.
@@danielevich6021 I'm not sure of the exact address, just know that the interior was somewhere on 4th Street in downtown LA, but I am still doing some investigating on it. If iI find out the exact spot I will let you know.
So glad you did this! It kind of sucks for me cause I lived in Philly for 6yrs and could’ve done this video so many times but that was before I was doing travel vids. Glad to see you made it there Scott! One of these days when I make it back I’ll have to do this one 😎👍👍
My hometown. Lived there from 1956 to 2004. Now reside in N. C.
Youre great, i saw a lot of video from Rocky 1 locations and this is great as well!
You should of run up the stairs and jump lol!! Loved the video!! ♥️♥️
My favourite movie franchise of all time (aside from Friday the 13th). This was very cool to see. Thanks Scott!
I live in Florida now, but I was born and raised in jersey and lived in Philly for awhile. That neighborhood is still a true Italian neighborhood. And if you ever wanna hear great stories and great accents, talk to some Italians from the northeast. You won’t be disappointed. The absolute best storytellers
I wish they would still put that mighty micks poster on the wall. That would be so beautiful.
Thank you Thank you Scott im a huge fan of sly stallone you do an amazing job wth all these locations keep up the great work !!!
Very cool video, Scott!
One of the guys singing on the corner is Frank Stallone, Slys brother. He does quite a few songs for his films and is also in the Sly directed ‘Stayin Alive’ the ‘Saturday Night Fever’ sequel.
You are a blast. Loved the video. I loved that moved and glad to see the sights of the locations. Looked like a lot of searching to find all those locations. Great video and work thank you Scott
I grew up to Eye of the Tiger! Takes me back 🥊
Sorry for commenting late fam I was taking a nap
