8 Mile is a 2002 American drama film written by Scott Silver and directed by Curtis Hanson. It stars Eminem in his film debut, alongside Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, Michael Shannon, Anthony Mackie, and Kim Basinger. The film, which contains autobiographical elements from Eminem's life, follows white rapper B-Rabbit (Eminem) and his attempt to launch a career in hip hop, a genre dominated by Black people. The title is derived from 8 Mile Road, the highway between the predominantly Black city of Detroit and the largely white suburban communities to the north that Marshall originally lived in.
8 Mile was a critical and box office success. It opened at No. 1 in the US with $51.3 million grossed in its opening weekend, and would eventually go on to achieve a total gross of $242.9 million worldwide. The album's accompanying soundtrack was also a commercial success, being certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The film garnered numerous award nominations and wins, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Lose Yourself" win for Eminem, Luis Resto and Jeff Bass at the 75th Academy Awards. 8 Mile was named one of the best films of 2002 by several publications.
As the end credits proudly announce, the movie was “Filmed on location in the 313”, the area code for inner urban Detroit, traditionally separated from the posher northern suburbs by the titular 8 Mile Road.
The movie is over 20 years old now and it's still awesome. A classic for sure!
You filmed a place where a legend walks in, be proud of yourself!
I respect you man. I'm from Warren MI and some of the places you go too aren't the best to go to and really far from each other but I'm glad you do! Love the Eminem videos man keep it up!!
Ya haha I always think when I’m filming in Detroit it’ll be quick but sometimes it’s a lot of driving back and forth. I usually stay in Warren actually . I find I can get anywhere from there quite easily (usually .) Do you still live in Detroit/Warren?
@@SCOTTONTAPE Yeah like 9 mile and hoover area. The real question is how do you find all these places ? Haha
Hell yeah shout out warren bro I live in Troy.
9 and vandyke here. Down the street from Lincoln high. Just found your channel been watching it for three straight days
Yeah same I'm also from warren
I liked this 8 Mile location thanks for sharing
You pretty much covered all the big scenes did a great job on this.
Jeffrey Winters thank you so much Jeffrey! Much appreciated!
I can tell you really enjoyed this one. 👍
That was very kind of you. Thanks for your heartbreak truth.
Jeannette Smith you are so welcome I’m glad u enjoyed the video . You have great taste in music by the way, love the retro playlist on your channel
Dude let me just say this, they've been others who have tried to tube my neighborhood but to me they all failed until you. You nailed it. I'm from 8 Mile and Mound roads so that's all my stomping grounds. I haven't been there in 25 years so you seen most of it and it looks like to me you totally fit in. Just saying man thank you for this vid
You are so welcome! Sorry I’m just seeing this!
Hey I just want to say that you did a fantastic job with finding a lot of these locations(I’m sure it wasn’t easy tracking them down) it’s been years since I’ve seen the movie. But I remember many of the scenes that you’ve shown here quite well. Great work and I hope to see more of your videos in the future. Have a great day.
Thank you so much . It took a ton of work yes and this was my third attempt as I didn’t like how the others were turning out. Means a lot man!
This video is under appreciated.
Say It Again For The People In The Back!🗣💯
BROOOO! You know im a huge Em fan like yourself. This was AWESOME!! Your videos are always good and funny. BTW....the ending to this one......LEGENDARY!
This was great! Sad to say a lot of locations are gone. But it's been years. Thanks for showin love to the 313.
Best city I know is Detroit 🤛🏼
Well... that my friend is a banger of a video. The content on the money😉😉its obvious theres a lot of hard work gone into the making of it. I do like some of MnMs songs, however i have to say that the 8 mile movie was indeed the best movie about a rapper ive seen. Anyway, yet again you made me feel like i was right there with you, i felt like i was going from location to loation. Brilliant as ever😎😉
Good job and greetings from Germany.
I was 13 when this flick came out, bought it on DVD and watched it pretty much every day after coming home from school...maybe 100x... I took it so damn serious during that vulnerable period of my life lol.
Eminem was on top of the world at that time, in hindsight I'd say he was the modern day Michael Jackson. And 8 Mile marks the pinnacle of his popularity, maybe the even the pinnacle of Hiphop's popularity even though its not really a Hiphop movie in my opinion.
I watch it on my dads dvd that he got when it came out
The world knows Scott you're a devout Eminem hardcore fan. That's cool, and your seriously righteous research on the '8 Mile' movie will form a big part of your vlog/podcast/live stream legacy. There is real meaning in Eminem's music, probably more like what will be appreciated in the decades to come, as will YOUR videos. God Bless and Stay Canadian.
Thank you so much John
Great movie and great video! Thank you from Tennessee
You f#%@ing legend!!!! Been waiting for this beauty!!! Merci beaucoup monsieur (I’m not even french but that’s how excited I am about this)!!!!!!!

OK Im real late getting to this vlog Scott. LOVED THIS 😊💕💯
Hey man, anybody can make a video about whatever, but you take your time and take people back to where historical stuff happens and you do it with class and respect. Excellent homage to Proof (RIP). Loved how you just casually drive by the cow head.. Hilarious! As a native Detroiter, I can appreciate someone shining a positive light on my city, but the harsh reality is there are many parts of Detroit run down and decimated. With the movie being as successful as it was and still is, Detroit should have done a better job preserving those landmarks that made the movie an Oscar worthy film. Thanks Scott 👍🏾💯
HK Wilson hey there thank you so much . I certainly do love Detroit, I was just there a couple of weeks ago again and I miss it already. And you’re right, aside from the downtown area, I don’t see much improvement in certain areas and the city needs infrastructure and funding fast. It’s sad to see but I’m still hopeful that Detroit can rise once again. I feel at home every time I’m there and I miss it when I’m not. Once again , thank you for watching and commenting !
This is a film I haven't seen I must watch it. Thank you for uploading this xx
Its a good movie even if your not an eminem fan.

Thank you for watching!
@@SCOTTONTAPE appreciate the reply thank you for the content
Now you got me watching 8 mile
I'm going to watch 8mile again after seeing your video
I lived in that trailer park from 1969 - 1971..... from 0-2 years old.
Oh wow that’s crazy! I just drove through it the other day once again
@@SCOTTONTAPE - My Mom and Dads trailer was on the opposite end of the park. It's still there. I drove through it a year ago and was shocked on how run down it is. In 69 - 70 lots of families were there and was a very nice place to live in.
Nice man!!!!! Love this video bro keep it up man really cool to watch these locations
RIP Brittany Murphy
Damn she died?? Didnt know that
@@tkkirkland2162 yup,2009 y.She was dead
@@tkkirkland2162 yeah and how she died was strange and her husband died just 6 months after her it was so weird
Awesome Job on the video and finding the filming locations for 8th Mile I loved and enjoyed it.
Mike G thanks so much Mike I appreciate that . I’m gonna check out your videos now I noticed some Friday the 13th stuff there 👀👀. I love those films , you may have seen I’ve done locations for some of them as well .
WeAreTheRest2050 You are very welcome.I love the Friday The 13th movies too and the filming locations.I am a HUGE Kane Hodder Fan. I saw your Friday The 13 th filming location video and I loved it too.Speaking of Friday The 13th filming locations here is an awesome video for you to checkout ua-cam.com/video/doQlHl6KmP4/v-deo.html
Mike G hey sadly I cannot watch that video lol. I had plans to go onto the Veluzat Movie Ranch to make the exact same video, i had been in talks with the owner for the past year. He said I could come when I’m back in Los Angeles in November for the winter and AdamTheWoo got in before me. It was my holy grail. So I’m really disappointed and I’m sure I’ll watch it some day but it’ll just get me angry 😂 lol. Oh well. He’s such a big UA-camr, it’s easier for him to get access to such places and I’m sure he did an amazing job like many of his other videos. But thanks for the tip ! I have some new locations videos I’m filming right now that should be up over the next few days, I hope u like them Mike!
I don’t know how you find all these places! What a great Video Scott
This is awesome . Thank you so much for finding the filming locations of 8 mile .
I'm not even from US
but everytime I see these places I feel a sense of nostalgia, it's fucking sad
"You know that scene where they burned down the house? It was shot here. The house is gone. Why?.....
......Because they burned it down"
😂😂😂😂😂
It burns when i pee
@@DanielPark-qz5pj You should get that checked out Man!😭😭🤣🤣

Wow you created amazing video Scott and ended is amazing too nice job
WHAT A GEM!
Man, that video is still underappreciated, you desirve gold for this achievement, dude!
Let me tell you something, I live in the south of Brazil, never been in Detroit - hell, actually I've never been in the United States =/
But, 8 Mile was a big part of my teenage days, you know... And where I lived was a small town, cold places, got some of that sludgy vibe the movie brings us out. Damn, anyway, what I'm trying to say is: this video brings me back so many memories, and I saw the movie so maaaaany times that it's like... Feels like I'm going back home somehow haha that crazy nostalgia mixed with the feeling of "oh, some of those places are still really good and recognizable just as seen in the movie!". Really good to know! You did a great job!
Hope someday I visit Detroit and all that places too!
Cheers, homie!
The old security man in the penobscot building was also in the 8 mile movie
How was he still there after that many years

Big Rudd thanks so much man I’m glad u liked it . I really appreciate the comment about my personality lol. Sometimes on UA-cam people distort their own personalities or try to be someone they are not and I’ve just been myself so I’m glad I don’t come across as a d-bag haha. Thanks for watching !
